Old thread is past the bump limit. These Prime 1 statues are now making a good argument as to why my wallet needs to shell out for one of these guys. I would probably buy one of these for Soundwave or Mixmaster.

ugh tell me about it

i went through that phase of 'alright i think i'm done with transformers' and sold off a loooot of my rarer figures for college pocket money

here i am 5 years later and i just randomly started collecting again

will i sell everything i just bought

will i die happy
>>
>>6234201
Mmm, so the 5 pack is definitely the best. But to get the actual best I would need to buy several of those and parts swap, heh. But oh well. Maybe I'll do some light repainting.

Besides the open-mouth head, I'd say Takara's first release is the one to get.

Is the Movie The Best version improved in any way?
>>
Two separate questions: I live in LA, and I was wondering if any of you bought import items from stores in the area? If so, where do you recommend to go?

Because I've never bought toys online, I want to get recommendations of which online places are the best to import stuff. The two items in question are Masterpiece Cheetor and the Takara Movie Soundwave. My first Masterpiece was Optimus Primal which I bought when I went to Stan Lee's Comic Con last year. I paid $130 which was fair I think for not importing it, but I forgot who the retailer was. Any help?

Megatron looks badass, when he took Squeeks he was like:What the fuck are you?
Also, that Megatron shot has more emotion than Meg in the all 4 movies,it took them 10 years to do this.I can't wait to hear Welker's voice coming from that beast.
>>
>>6234201
For some reason I keep thinking of disco fever with this pic.
>>
>>6234425
For me his greatest emotion in the whole trilogy was him bumming in an alley looking at Cybertron while Splendid berates him like the brain-damaged fuck that he is.
>>
Is just me or I heard Cade saying "Grimlock, take that off of your mouth".He actually mentioned him, wow. Also, the yellow robot is Canopy, she says"Canopy! No! Get up!"
I also liked when she said "I'm not afraid of you!" oh and we see Mohawk! He has a mohawk and Onslaught! And Barricade! In car mode! I'm so hyped for this movie! And,no,I'm not a G1 fan and I don't want to argue with anyone,I like those movies, but thise feels good.

Still keeping a cautious look. I like my robots but if the camera focuses too much on the humans being the heroes then it wouldn't be worth the hype.

>>
>>6234440
Slight improvement but the driving is still shite. Still has a lot of internet meme references and I didn't like the theme of WD2 so bias for that.

Basically if you loved WD1, you'll probably like WD2. The protagonist makes a cameo in the latter as one of the help missions.

most episodes pre-movie are just 'Decepticons are stealing energy! Autobots roll out! Maybe some new character or 'invention'? Decepticons, retreat!' anyway.

Sure it helps if a character had memorable moments in one of the shows/comics. I doubt I would have gotten Breakaway if I didn't enjoy Getaway in the comics, but I have many more toys where I really don't know/care about the character.

The cartoon was just dumb fun.
Didn't help that there were so many animation errors too.
That being said, rewatching G1 but in nips' voices was kinda amusing, especially pre-movie
>optimus sounds like he's tired of megatron's shit, screams everytime he's tripped, exploded or startled
>jazz sounds like a cool handsome high school senior
>bumblebee is like those blunt kids with nasty choice of words
>soundwave sounds excited everytime he ejects a cassette
>megatron sounds like a grumpy, whiny 50-something manchild
>starscream was less screechy and more seductive
Also Spike sounds like a subdued Kamille Bidan, despite having a different voice actor. (Show Hayami IIRC)

I can only recal a few and it was because they were pants on hard ridiculous.
Triple takeover. Blitzwing takes a high school football coach play advice and it actaully works. Astrotrain makes stupid minions that break a single watermain and drown the city with it.
AutoBop. Blaster and Tracks deal with a mind control dance club.
Web world. Galvatron gets psychiatric help.
B.O.T. worse episode
Carnage in C minor. Worse episode the sequel.

Metroplex is 56 cm from the top of his head.

I assume some people would measure from the tips of his extended shoulder cannons. Those people are twats.

TR Fortress Maximus might actually be 60 or 61 cm tall, in which case he would actually live up to the age-old claim of 'being two foot tall'. Does anyone have Fort Max?

Eight combiner boxes... put them aside, whip out Fort Max and measure him. Then we will have certainty.

I typed up this whole response to your pic until I finally realized the mistake.
"G1" and "Titan" were your labelling of the pics ABOVE the text
The blue sizes are you attempting to explain the size of devastator, and the red is commentary on his height comparison.

That's a terribly confusing picture.
It's also incorrect.
that 45 cm is the height of the highest part, so much like Metro's antennae, it's Devy's shoulderscoop. Height is closer to 42 cm.
Whereas on trypticon, since he's crouching and cannot stand up straight, he's actually overall as big, if not bigger than metroplex, it's simply his tallest tip goes up to that height.
With his skyscraper guns down, not up.

>>
>>6235422
Also, the name.
>>
>>6235422
I'm guessing it'll be like Beast Hunters Shockwave with snap on armor bits.
>>
>>6235427

"Armor up" figures usually are some of the worst. They tend to look poor without the armor because arms/legs/whatever is molded smaller to account for the armor, and then the armor often ends up killing any articulation it had to boot.

Really hope that isn't the path they take, especially given CW and TR have turned out so good. CW gave us good, functional combiners, and TR brought great updates to a long forgotten gimmick.
>>
>>6235433
On the upside, transformers don't have to actually "wear" the armor. Look at PMOP, or the Armada leaders. Sure, those were bricks, but it was a different time. Everything in Armada was a brick.

How did they fuck this up so badly?

I just realized they don't even need to add any extra parts / joints to make his arm work.

All they needed to do was make the elbow joint able to swing "back" as well as forward (see: CW Offroad / First Aid mold), then you can just swivel it 180 degrees at the shoulder and get the dragon heads right-side up.

If only they bothered putting in effort.

So Megatronia is the first CW/UW combiner I've bought that hasn't fallen to bits as soon as I opened it. In fact she's remarkably solid and well built. Goddamnit I love her- the individual bots are so much fun and the combined mode looks better than I expected. I wish the combiner hands had the 5mm ports in the actual "grip" of the hands though rather than her wrist.

But yeah, she's fantastic. Though she needs a chest cycle IMO. Maybe I should buy one of those shelfwarming Legends Grooves in my local Entertainer, repaint it and have it as a new character? IIRC it's possible to finagle that figure into a "handgun" mode, so maybe she could be called Sexpistol?
>>
>>6235700
Well yeah compare the plastic from Megatronia to the CW stuff and you will notice that the Takara feels more grainy, matted, and denser than the Hasbro ones. That's the difference of plastic they use on some of their stuff that was much more pronounced on the CW/UW line.
>>
>>6235705
Yeah, the plastic does feel better- it feels better compared to my UW Computron too. He has some seriously nasty plastic, especially Scattershot's wings.

Two down, one to go. Sadly that one has gotten expensive thanks to Kickback being released.

Bombshell's not great unfortunately, bug legs really ruin things in robot mode.

Skrapnel - bad colors
Bombshell - shoddy mold, cheese-yellow
Kickback - thighs don't lock in bug mode

Kickback is definitely the best among the three.
>>

>shrapnel is smaller than his 2 counterparts
>bombshell's design is hampered by his bug legs and the aborted attempts at a combiner weapon mode

The takara ones look amazing and they fucked it up by RETOOLING their chest just to hold a stupid sticker.

RID Paralon. It's okay. I mean, it's an RID toy and you know how lightweight those are. But the transformation is interesting and the silhouettes of both modes are unique. It's also a reference to BW Scorponok.

RiD paralon, a head-retool of scorponok, meant to homage beast wars scorponok.

Its an ok figure with extendable legs, problem is the pincers are just hollow shells that just clip over the arms and make shoulder pads.

We have different definitions of good and female, in this case. Prime Arcee is one of those weird, lanky, no nose designs. They're not bad, but they're not what I'd call "good" either.

It's just a difference in taste.

You're criticizing the design here, not the toy. The fact is, both of them are well-sculpted, fun to transform, and pose pretty well to boot. They're good toys. Whether the Prime Arcee design matches your own personal tastes is irrelevant to that fact.

A better question is why they don't seem to learn from their past. Every so often you get this one, outstandingly designed figure that would be great to adopt and adapt to the whole line from then on, and use as a basis for improving everything.

And then the next 20 figures are just meh and don't bother to use the engineering tricks they clearly had up their sleeve.

Much as I love a good complex transformation, I will admit there were a few at the tail end of that era that just made me sigh heavily upon looking at them. Transforming them had become a CHORE.

I hope Hasbro finds a good middleground soon. Titans Return is fun and simple to transform, but usually laughably simple and predictable. I like a little bit of surprise or things that make me smile, like Soundwave up there. Just...punch up the complexity a little bit and we'll be good.

You can swap the elbows around faggot, but the problem is the forearms are designed so you can't do a full 90 degree bend. They would have had to mould the forearms differently.

A lot of RotF and DotM movie toys just tended to have really fiddly transformations with lots of minor steps to achieve that scrap heap aesthetic.

If overly complex toys were an issue and they're going for simpler, G1 looks, there's really no excuse not to approach MP levels of engineering. Most of them aren't any more complex than a T30 toy, their transformations are just afforded more steps because they aren't marketed to ADD babies who refuse to read instructions and then tell their parents to make scathing amazon reviews.
>>
>>6236266
That's fair. But I don't know, it works for me. His dragon is almost a consistent mess, Like:

I hear this line so much in Titans Return discussion, and it just makes me go ??? Like, cool, reference the past all you like, I like nostalgia too. But when you run across something that was shitty or a limitation of the times, PLEASE fucking change it Hasbro. At that point it just feels like either stubbornness, or laziness.

I wonder if Hasbro saves some change on engineers now that a lot of the figures are pretty much straight-up using their exact transformations from G1.

Didn't they attack autobots in a fight in their episode because they couldn't figure out who was a con and who was a bot?
>>

But in this case it isn't a limitation of the times. It was an intentional design choice. They did other robot animals and stuff before, and these were specifically made differently.

They're monsterbots, they're not supposed to be entirely coherent in all aspects. Thats part of their charm.

If they're shitty to you or not, well, thats personal preference there. I love'em. I'm also really hyped for the next Fanshobby release too, I really want the beefy Not-Doublecross.

He's probably my favorite TF ever. I'd have to take a sweep of my collection to really know for sure (MP10 Prime MIGHT edge him out, depending on the time of day), but he's top 3 for me, for damn sure. I love him to bits.

It's honestly still a little surprising to me that there are people out there that DON'T like complex transformations. Like, ever since I was a wee lad, I always thought that that was the main draw of the entire line. Like, if you have a dude that turns into a truck, and it's not immediately apparent how he gets from one form to the other without "cheating", then that's magic to me.

It's not my style, but MP Inferno looks nice with the cartoon colour bits. There's a pleasant uniformity to only having red and grey and no chrome (kind of).

My only complaint is that they should have included a grey replacement to the chrome hose on his head. It really sticks out it's by itself.

To me, the key to a good nautica figure is basically that topheavy V shape
so I don't see why they didn't use scourge.
>>
>>6236080
It wasn't a retooled highbrow
it's one of those "copycat engineering" instances.
>>
>>6237093
Same here.
>>
>>6237095
Except it still reuses parts from Highbrow.
>>
Do any of you guys have ideas on how to fix TR Sixshot's fucking awful ankle "tilt"? I was thinking about unpinning andthen sanding the joint, but I don't have the proper tools for pinning.
>>
>>6236458
Yeah there were black and clear KOs of FE prime.
>>
>>6236458
>checked ebay

Holy shit! I still got an MOSC FE Arcee, Star Scream, x2 Vehicons and an MIB FE Prime that I used to fiddle around with.

>conflating the subject matter of the toy with the engineering behind the toy
Two completely different things, you fool.

Blechhh.

i think i want to reverse scalp

i just came across 3 TR gnaws, and i bought them all without really thinking why. I already have 1 and thought that was enough.

if i put each 1 up on ebay for BIN at like 99 cents and just enough for shipping, do you think it will go right back into the hands of real scalpers, or do you think i could make someones day?
>>
>>6237216
Both are a possibility.
>>
>>6237216
It would make a scalpers day.
>>
>>6237216
Why not just return them to the store?
>>
>>6237216
Canada? I just want one or two PLEASE
>>
>>6237216
Do a giveaway where you screen the contestants.
>>
>>6237106
As far as i know, there's no reused parts.
Some speculate the spine, but without inhand photos, we wont know

Windblade uses Highbrow's thighs. Still, "shares parts" doesn't automatically make something a remold anymore. Windblade clearly uses a simiar transformation to Highbrow and has his thighs, but the rest of the toy is all new and not modified from Highbrow's mold.
>>
>>6237279
But Yuki confirmed highbrow WAS a retool o scourge, and they share just as many parts.

I'm just honestly asking, isn't this technically a retool, its not quite shared engineering like chromedome to the cw deadend mold (all new parts just using the same transformation method) but it does use the spine and thighs so its minimal.

Shall we call it a retool of the scourge spine and legs or do we have an OFFICIAL new term for this?

Because I see just as many parts shared between all 3
>>
>>6237279
Then you might as well say Highbrow is not a remold of Scourge. They share very little parts.

And somehow they both had the worst case of bubbleheads.
>>
>>6237295
>Shall we call it a retool of the scourge spine and legs or do we have an OFFICIAL new term for this?
SHARED

PARTS

it's not official but it's fucking logical and easy and you're making this way harder than it needs to be.

Chromedome and Blurr share parts and have similar transformations as well.
>>
>>6237299
Tomato-Tomatoe

Retools have shared parts and shared parts are retools.
>>
>>6237303
retools have MODIFIED parts
>>
>>6237299
>Chromedome and Blurr share parts and have similar transformations as well.

No they don't. Chromedome is from the CW Dead End and Blurr is a totally new mold. The only thing resembling whatever engineering you think of is the legs with the opening panels thing and if you say that's a shared part then all the transformers that has the same engineering are sharing parts.

tl;dr version you're retarded.

>>6237306
And shared parts also have retooled and modified parts from the base body mold type, again you're retarded.
>>
>>6237308
>if you say that's a shared part
lol wtf m8, i said nothing of the sort
>And shared parts also have retooled and modified parts from the base body mold type
see pic

I don't mean this derisively, but come back and try again when both your reading and your writing are back to normal, because you've clearly had some sort of brain fart

>refers to a post about the complexity of a movie toy
>complains about the baseness of the movie itself

back to /tv/ you piece of shit. we're talking about the toys and their engineering here, get it? the toys. nobody here gives a damn about the movies so much as they do about the toys themselves. hence the name of the board.
