Takeya-shiki Jizai Okimono Gundari Myo Oh

So they're re-releasing those under the Jizai Okimono line? Is it the exact same figures from the Takeya Buddhist line? or will there be additional accessories or sculpts to these? Either way, good news for me because I had missed out on those two.

Either way, any new Takeya revoltech means the whole event is worth it for me. Can't wait for those damned knights, hot damn.
>>
>>6195917
>>6195923

ok seems like it's a re-release but fudo is getting a new color option
>>
>>6195928
Fudo is a repaint, not sure about Gundari. I wasn't even sure it came out before. There were some that didn't get listed on my regular site I think. There is still one unreleased figure right?

Brand name keeps changing without changing the people involved, so make sense they would go with the new name. Plus it looks like they got more new stuff. I want more actual new stuff..
>>
>>6195943
Gundari's been released before, just that it's a lesser known deity unless you're actually, well into Buddhist gods, so I suspect it flew under the radar for most people.

I hope Fudo Myo gets its original color re-released too. That was one of my fav gods when I made my temple tour around Kyoto. Jizai Okimono is a good name for the line, but I understood the initial reasoning for it being a different name since the original Kirin, dragon and such were actually replicating the old art that's called Jizai Okimono, that were basically articulated sculptures of dragons and crabs. Super premium toys for rich ppl and kings back then... now for niche plebs like us in 2017.
>>
>>6195952
Yeah I saw on TV talking about those, fish and snake were amazing, some of those lost art craziness.

Funny if they made metalic version Myo Ohs. I think they killed the line making too many of them, then wood versions which shelf warmed hard.
>>
>>
>>6195962

I actually got the iron color ver of Garuda, because that's how I remember it from Sanjusangendo, which that specific Takeya redesign is based from, I think. I also got the iron/wood ver for the two Nio Guardians.

I don't think Fudo and Gundari got alt color releases back then, just like how Raijin and Fujin also had only the colored ver as the only option, accurate to the old painting. Now that I recall, all Fudo Myoo statues I had seen were actually painted too, unlike the 4 heavenly kings and Asura which do have various ver in the real temples.

I want to say it's a mix between that and the astonishing suit. Since it has the design on the hips and around the shoulders but then has classic pieces with the gloves and boots.
>>
>>6195981
I'd be fucking happy if it's that or the brown and tan variant some time down the line. Look closely at the photo again, there is a patch on the side of his waist that extends down to his mid thigh, like it's the current comic redesign (which are stupid and dumb as fuck). Also if you look at his chest on the standing one, it seems to show that it's going to be this ver.

It's likely that this is the license they're granted for the current Wolverine from various Civil War / Avengers issues... seeing as how Venom is an Ultimate Venom just mix-mashed to look kind of like old Larsen and Bengus Venom with Ultimate Marvel detail.

I would be supremely, extremely, joyfully happy to be proven wrong when the painted prototypes get announced.
>>
>>6195987
How can you tell? Looks like he could easily be shorter than Spidey

>>6195964
Seems that his knees are on hinges instead of Revo joints
>>
>>6195994
>>6195997

these redesigns are the fucking worst because they're simply adding dumb shit to a good design that doesn't need any change... but it isn't horrible enough to be rejected by every fan... so they stay and replace old classic costumes... I can't wait for Venom but these would be a harder fix than simply airbrushing two white rectangles to the back of Venom's fists.
>>
>>6195998
Use the stand arm as a way to roughly gauge height.
I'd imagine it would be bent more had he being a shorter figure.
>>
>>6195998
Yeah, and thighs are cut swivels. Hips look like ball jointed so it's a mix of Venom and Spider-Man for articulation.
>>
>>6196003
The bottom bar is almost parallel(like 30 degrees) to the ground, i'm going to guess and say the top of his head will be under Spidey's eyes
>>
>>6195994
>>6195997
Because it's very early sculpt and didn't allowed photos, it might be a mix of different designed they were given. Then they go to Marvel and see what they like and finalize the design. Maybe. Like an easy way avoiding making 2 or 3 different sculpts.
>>
>>6195964
>It's the version with no trunks
D R O P P E D
So close.
>>
Regardless, you think Venom got crazy about what artist what version, Wolverine might get 10 times worse depending on final costume choice, or if it was an amalgam of designs.

And the face, same with Gwen, wont please everyone.
>>
>>6196026
Its clearly based on MVC look at that shit.

Aren't they making some other line with the pants and brown color edition?
>>
>>6196032
I don't give a shit about Gwen, lol. Venom I get it, it's not exactly it but I'm a bit more accepting of Venom because of the nature of his costume being an organic thing, whereas with Wolverine... it's really DUMB for a premium collector import toy to be doing a costume that'll be replaced in a few months.. and already have a few US figures of that dumb fucking seasonal design.

Really need Wolverine to be in his classic costume...
>>
>>6196041
Wolverine has been dead in the comics for years now, he doesn't have a 'current' design. This costume looks pretty fuckin classic to me, at least i'm glad it actually has his V cuffed boots. I guess it all depends on the paint at this point though

hoping it won't have this dumb blue horizontal stripe on his sides. Yamaguchi's release needs to do the classic costume or the brown and tan classic... Pretty much only got one chance at a nice revoltech release. I know, the comics wouldn't want him to be any more popular since Fox still has the movie rights, but all the more reason to do the classic costume than the modern ones.

>>
I have to ask, do you guys actually like how the joints on Revo figures look? Like, those shoulders in the OP pic and the knee joints I've seen in other Gwen pics look absolutely horrendous to me.
>>
>>6196277
They're hit and miss for me.

I thought they were perfectly functional for someone like Ultron (what with how his shoulders actually work in the movie and how the armor plating covers them), but for characters like Deadpool and Spidey, while they do their job in maximizing the articulation, they're also fiddly and can look awkward in some angles.

The kneejoints don't bother me as much though.
>>
>>6196277
Go buy a Marvel Legends then. If you want to actually get shit in crazy poses THAT is why you buy a Revoltech. If you just want shit to look nice in neutral poses that's why you buy a Marvel Legends and hope it has decent paint apps.

There are tons of poses Deadpool and Spidey can do that are comic accurate and IMPOSSIBLE to do with other figures and the ugly joints are part of the reason why it's possible. It's really that simple.
>>
>>6196277
It's really all the same for Japanese action figures that are not some mech or guy in armored suit, there will be joints exposed in some way that will break the sculpt of skin and clothe. I don't think Revos are that bad at hiding them, just the section which require greater articulation needs more exposure, like knees and shoulders. Figma tends to bury the joints and kill articulation and most SHF gets away with it due to designs of the Kamen Riders and such.

Anytime the shoulders look bad, it's because Yamaguchi knows shit about aesthetics and engineering and fucked up a toy.

Not all Revoltechs suffer from Yamaguchi's horrible input though, like that knight that has been shown off.

Also, are there pictures of Gwen in other poses? None of the pictures shown so far show anything horrible or even bad.

Or give me maximum carnage
>>
>>6196312
>are there pictures of Gwen in other poses?
I'm pretty sure those two were the only display. They usually don't mess with them mid event.

Because she use single joints and is a smaller stature I can see how folks would be bugged by the shoulder joints. You can see it with the masked one but it will be like the QB Revos.

>>
>>>6196300 It's really all the same for Japanese action figures
Yeah, no.

Pretty much all the Japanese companies know how to integrate the sculpt with the joint. Even Kaiyodo knows how to do that, by not involving Yamaguchi.
>>
>>6196324
Like I said, those tends to bury the joints to look better but kill articulation. Ones that didn't were the Archetypes bodies and they have lots of breaks to achieve good articulation.

One way to do both is to have sliding out joints, but they can look unnatural since the joints are moving away from the body.

It's just a matter of which you want more for that specific character.

I don't even know which one I'm rooting for, they all look pretty cool. I guess Ranger Green is my least favorite.

I just got the original Armoroid recently, and I am loving it. Makes me wish I bought more, in fact. I'm not sure what kind of plastic it's made of, but it feels pleasantly solid and weighty. Definitely different feeling than my other Assemble Borg figures.

I actually do. I think on figures like Raiden and the Peacewalker big boss (that one has a questionable face sculpt but the body sculpt is awesome) they work really well with his style. I love the way he overlaps shoulder muscles with the revo joints. I think Raiden is still his most successful one. I love it way better than regular ball joint style because shoulder muscles are these cool kind of rounded edges shape, like the deltoid and his style makes them look really cool whether they're hunched or raised. I think Deadpool and Venom Snake are actually successful executions of it. I have to agree with how Spider-Man one is cut, it's actually not as good as his usual ones. Venom for me though is working really well from pics so far.
>>
>>6196911
continuing my point, as someone who likes how Yamaguchi works his stuff, is that I think the problem with Spider-Man is that he's a lanky character and his shoulders suffer from a gap that's way too noticeable. Look at Grey Fox mini revo, I think the shoulders and neck are really well done on that, for balance between sculpt and articulation range.

good lord the sculpt on this Wolverine is so damned good. He really should be doing more bulky and stocky characters, the huge muscles lend to his style of cutting really well.
>>
>>6197090
You're right, now that i think about it the joints are only so exposed on Spider-Man because he's so lean, Deadpool's joints are far more easily hidden and it seems the bulkier they are the more that will be the case.

here, look at Raiden, I'd say he's leaner than Deadpool and despite him being a cyborg with more body detail, he's actually the first revo to have the double-shoulder joint that gives it a much wider range than other revos. You can see that his shoulder muscle is actually draping over pretty well over the joints.

>>
>>6197137
yeah, which is my point, him and deadpool have larger shoulder muscles. I wish he had done the same with spider-man, a slight increase in the shoulder muscles and a longer trapezius muscle on spider-man would help. Regardless, I still think it's one of the more fun spider-man figures, just pity the odd decisions on the knees and shoulders.

Still can't wait for my Venom to ship though.

>the double-shoulder joint that gives it a much wider range than other revos

I see this all the time and I just can't agree with it at all. The single 8mm joints he used to use for eva shoulders got the same range or better, didn't need the shoulders to be flattened out to hide them, and looked far better. I might take some pics in a minute, but I'd take those in a heartbeat over the doubles. I think yamaguchi saw it worked great for raiden and ran with it, but didn't realize it was only because the design of his shoulderpads is perfect for hiding it. They're just a mess on characters wearing spandex like all of his marvel characters so far.

If there's one problem I have with modern revoltechs, it's that damned double joint. It's not the end of the world, but it's a poor, overcomplicated solution to a pretty simple problem.
>>
I don't collect Revoltech/Vulcanlog that much but what happened to Arthur? Wasn't he shown early last year(or 2) ago?
>>
>>6197195
I own Raiden and about 8 of the eva ones. Raiden definitely has a wider range, it can crunch up the shoulders together and spread it wider too. You don't like it? Too bad. It still does have a wider range than the evas.

Now if you're saying, the eva style shoulders is enough with Spider-Man, I can agree with that.

If you're saying it's just a bad option regardless of the figure/character, then that's where me and other anons have been saying, it works well with characters who have more bulk on the shoulders to cover up the joint.
>>
>>6197209

I think he had a painted proto show within the past few months? Correct me if I'm wrong, Anon's.
>>
>>6197210
>Now if you're saying, the eva style shoulders is enough with Spider-Man, I can agree with that.
Basically this, yeah. There's a bunch of different options, and you should use what works with a particular design, right? Raiden had big shoulder armor that was perfect for it, no argument there. Deadpool has big shoulders, that's fine, but they're still just supposed to be regular biceps and he had to give them a really weird, flat sculpt to make them work. Less fine, but eh, I'm still onboard.

Spider-man is usually depicted as being pretty muscular, but also being fairly skinny so having to flatten his shoulders out ends up looking extra weird on him. I think the 8mms would have been a way better choice for a body like his. Gwen's probably gonna be even weirder for the same reason.

>Raiden definitely has a wider range
They're definitely comparable, but I'd disagree on raiden actually having wider range. He can barely raise his arms above 90 degrees, and he can't cross his arms as well as the evas. I'll admit the ability to raise and lower the shoulders is nice, but again, that's something that doesn't work as well on the marvel examples because they don't have shoulderpads to stop it from looking disjointed.

Wolverine has tiny shoulderpads that are almost strips, and even those are gonna make the shoulders work much better. I don't really need another wolverine, but I'm hyped as hell for him because his design is probably gonna solve most of my problems with the previous two. He's got the potential to be the best thing yamaguchi's put out.

the eva joints are even more prominent than with Spidey, the arms are scrawny and don't have to look human, it has a really compact torso which doesn't get in the way. But that huge ball is no more preferable or in any way more articulated than the double revo. Besides, the double revo is for being able to alter the position of the shoulder itself which you just can't do with a single ball revo joint. if you don't like the double ball joint you can just swap it for a regular joint like in your pic to lose the gappage anyways
>>
>>6197354
>But that huge ball is no more preferable or in any way more articulated than the double revo
Normally it's got the top half of the pylon covering it up, it's pretty easy to minimize that sort of thing then when you're accounting for it while you're sculpting. Check out vash actually, he used the really big older ones and his are still barely visible. I'm pretty sure venom is going to use the same setup too.

>if you don't like the double ball joint you can just swap it for a regular joint like in your pic to lose the gappage anyways
I actually have tried that, but the way the shoulders are shaped makes thing get clunky when they're closer to the body. Also, it needs some dremeling to fit properly and I don't feel like fucking up something that'd be hard to replace.

I'm still pretty happy with yamaguchi's recent output overall, and somewhere in the last year or so I realized revoltech & friends had become my favorite line. I follow his twitter, but does he ever do rundowns of his sculpting? It'd be pretty interesting to hear his thought process behind stuff like this.
>>
>>6196488
Yes, but that setup is not the intended product at the time, just for display purpose.
>>
>>6197074
It's a single joint, just not fully inserted. There's not enough meat on the arm to have the double joint in there.
>>
>Still no more Judy and Nick.
>>
>>6197195
Nah. The double joints give more range for most figures. The Evas are exceptions because they're so skinny/lanky, that same joint setup on a normal human proportioned body wouldn't yield results anywhere near as good. And that's coming from a guy who hates the double joints--they are flimsy in the center, which makes them hard to swivel in their sockets. The joint often wants to twist apart in the center or threaten to break instead.

Anyway, the advantage of double shoulders is that they allow for really "cheat" poses. Like, I have my Deadpool in a really extreme crossed-arm shooting stance right now that literally only looks good from one angle. If you turn him around, his arms appear to be dislocated. Double joints allow you to cheat for photo ops like this, by getting the arms into positions that aren't humanly possible.

Man, and I got Spidey Gwen a about a month or so ago too. At least it was below MSRP.

However, I am completely down with this. Many Marvel women have been undeservedly subjected to that recent lady Legends mold and its subpar range of motion.

As far as female Marvel characters go, I'd love a Black Cat or Psylocke next.
>>
>>6197649
You know, it just hit how great yamaguchi finally doing women again could be, considering how weak hasbro's efforts almost always are. I know he can't really put out too many figures a year total, but it'd be cool to see female superheroes freed from single-elbow hell. The legends rogue we got was decent, but one with enough articulation to actually do fighting poses or even look up would be incredible.

A lot of releases would be more interesting if they added in effects specific to that hero but the farthest that I've seen is Spidey's webs and Ironman's blast effects but Bandai has been putting those on repeat instead of making specific accessories to each Ironman that featured smaller weapon systems. At the very least Revos seem to bother with decent accessories.

Yamaguchi said it was because of the weight of the figure ball joints couldn't support certain poses.

I think it's a mix of newcomers unaware of it and not being a big deal because free range for the legs isn't a must for the character.

Anons wont shut up about not able to stand straight, as usual, when the revo is out.

I don't know, many liked the MP Eva so maybe it's more accepted than one would think.

I think it got a pass for being so old. There was a kerfuffle over spiderman using them so recently, so I don't think people really like them. If it really is a weight thing though, then there's not much you can do about it.
>>
>>6198802
They've obviously shown some pretty impressive poses with it, but it's just such a limited joint in my opinion. Too bad about that. Odd that they wouldn't just use Revoltech joints if conventional ball pegs wouldn't work. Surely those could support the figure's weight. I don't see why swivels would help support it better than that.
>>
>>6198821
Gwen and Wolverine looks like the same style hip articulation as Spider-Man so might as well get used to cut swivels making a comeback.

YES
>>
>>6198823
Yeah I think Revo joints are better too. They probably went with what looks better, because you need the joints expose in someway when posing. Like the gap you get behind the upper thighs where the butt used to be.

Simple pegs works fine for extra weight because there is no free space to move at the joint like ball. It spins of course but having 4 in different directions should make that difficult from happening from being off balance.

Old Yamaguchi figures were bigger and only used cut joints so I can get why he went back to it.
>>
>>6198835
It's probably some sort of choice/mistake for a proto-display. Arthur didn't have any joints at all during his reveal irrc.
>>
>>6198859
I could see that, or perhaps there's another pair of legs with joint in them for if you're okay with the sculpt being broken up.
>>
>>6198859
Possible, but usually it's zero joints then to fully jointed, strange that we see somewhere in between.

Because it's a wide, short leg piece maybe they didn't want to break or hollow out the sculpt by forcing a joint in.
>>
>>6198876
I'm seeing it in two ways then. Maybe they are trying something like what figma does and have a static piece with no breaks in sculpts for a very specific pose while keeping stuff like arms and neck jointed or
>>6198881

If they want to try newer and newer ideas for displays I'm game.
>>
>>6198828
Hmm, not sure, but there's a blu-ray disc box right next to them so if you know how big the disc box is you could kind of estimate how tall they are.
I looked it up and the disk box is supposed to be 17.15 cm tall (~6.75 inches tall).
Judy without the ears looks to be about half the height of the box, and Nick looks like he'll be ~1 inch taller? So I imagine Judy would be like 4.5 inches tall and Nick like 5 inches tall.
Just a guess.

I do own Spidey, I'll try to articulate the mechanics of the leg articulation as best i can although he has a little learning curve to get the hang of once you have him in hand. So his hips are somewhat limited ball joints(not revo joints), you'll notice it's impossible to see the joint inside the hips no matter angle/pose because of the sculpt. to account for the somewhat limited ball joint, the thigh swivel is cut diagonally(with a masterful sculpt that makes the musculature of the thigh look undisturbed at basically any degree) so that when you rotate it the angle the leg comes out from the top part of the thigh is changed drastically. I can't tell how exactly Venom's thigh articulation will work and it does appear different than Spidey, but this should give you some idea

Are you joking or are you for real? It actually looks worse than just a straight up cut by making it all wavy.

The entire upper thigh and hip region makes him look like a weird alien with unnatural looking bending. It's like a dog's elbow and carpus, but up ontop of the leg.

Reading the blog, it says the shoulders uses the Mini joints. The ones used for the hips in Minis that has the ball end. I think that's the most ideal joint for the shoulders anyways so I'm happy.

yeah I own plenty of the early revos and even his early Eva figures before revoltech even existed. >>
>>6199140
>http://revoltechrox.hatenablog.com/entry/2017/02/20/143423

the review from this blog seems to express surprise at how well the swivel cuts work even though it reminds the writer of old revoltechs. An earlier post was actually this person reviewing Dante revoltech which was just full of swivel cuts and expressing how cumbersome he/she found it despite liking the range it gives.

Apparently from the hip down, Venom has no ratcheting joints, it's all hinge and swivels, save for a non-clicky ball joint for the ankle. I'm surprised that they went with this, I would have assumed that, other than swivel cut for hips, the regular revo joint would provide better stability for such a top heavy figure.

This person seems to be super excited for the figure though and stated that the balance is excellent for Venom.

Honestly, even though Revolver joint have made some good strides forward over the years, I am sometimes still annoyed by them. I am overjoyed that Kaiyodo seems to be easing up and stepping forward into the future a bit with a mix of different types of joints. Sure, it means certain figures can't be SCIENCE'd as much as others, but I think that fad sort of died away a while ago anyway.

Also, I have no problem with dual cut hips. They do break up sculpt a bit at certain angles, but on a design like Venom it doesn't even matter. Properly done dual cuts give a great range of motion and stability, honestly. I've loved them on every Yamaguchi figure I own that has em.

If you want to part swap then Assemble Borg is pretty much the line to do it with. Most people weren't really doing a whole lot of part swapping among regular Revoltech releases. I think the most prominent part swapping happened with Queen's Blade due to the nude bodies.

With them reviving the Assemble Borg line AND now committing to do designs that aren't just robots/demons but also adding in some cute stuff they are giving people who enjoy part swapping/combining plenty of opportunities to purse that gimmick.

I'm also quite happy they are moving away from just using revolver joints on literally everything because in Venom's case it works really well. Also works quite well on Spidey.

>Most people weren't really doing a whole lot of part swapping among regular Revoltech releases
I'm guessing you weren't on /toy/ much in the old days. Like 2008-2010 era. At that time, Revoltech was still a relatively new brand, so the ability to swap parts around freely was really exciting and revolutionary. We would frequently have SCIENCE! threads where the objective was to partswap our Revos and make cool or comedic new abominations. That sorta died down in the years after, and I haven't seen one of those threads in ages so I guess interest in general is kinda down.
>>
>>6199350
wow, I was buying up the first revoltechs like mad but I wasn't on 4chan or even know of its existence. I had just moved to the US for college, it was a few years later that a friend introduced me to it and even then I still didn't realize it had a /toy thread. I wasn't much interested in /b or anything else.

I know Kirin girl is popular but goddamn I want them to do gunner's next like any of the bow and arrow hunters. At least there's a little diversification with the Teostra Hunter having a Charge Blade instead of being another GS user.
>>
>>6199566
As much as I want a narga blade master set with the Ls I'll take a narga bow set girl.
>>
>>6199566
I know why they insist on all the blade users. It is more likely for guarenteed sales. But what baffles me is that they are only giving Kirin just the greatsword. If theey were smart, they should have also made a bow and arrow set too since Kirin has the advantage of gunner and bladesmater armors being identical. They should have capitalized on that, it is what was one with the nendos of Kirin girl, so I figured kaiyodo would have copied that.

I don't know how much stock to put into this, but it's great to hear. So many toys put toe joints somewhere near the middle of the foot and you end up with a really unstable foot because not enough of it is making solid contact.

I'm really curious looking at this because to me it looks like a completely new costume altogether? When I look at the one arm on the one on the right it very much looks to me like he has bare forearms and then gloves that just cover his hand and have a small cuff at the wrist. It really looks that way to me. And I can't find a single pre-existing Wolverine suit that has that. And like the rest of it sort of looks halfway between the 90s costume and a lot of the more modern ones, and until I noticed what I think is going on with the gloves, I thought it was just like going to be one of those with a few small liberties taken, but idk now.

If it is a new design that sort of begs the question is it just something Yamaguchi made up or is it like something that's going to appear elsewhere that we just haven't seen yet?

I feel like I'm probably reading too much into it but idk it really looks like that's what's going on with the arm.
>>
>>6201833
there's been so many recent alterations to the Wolverine costume that there's probably one that way... Now the only way this figure won't sell like hotcakes is if licensing issues forces them to do a non-classic Wolverine costume, or whoever is at Kaiyodo actually is forcing Yamaguchi to do these ver of Wolverine.

Please, god damn it, please, for once, just do the damned classic costume, it's Wolverine for goodness sake. Do this kind of monkey paw arbitrary new costume wish bullshit over at Mezco or something, just give me my classic Wolverine revoltech with that awesome sculpt and articulation.

I've never read a single damn comic but I absolutely LOVE Spider-Gwen's design. Would it be worth it to buy just on that?

On that note I really would love a Rouge that's not just the Legends.
>>
>>6203111
It's not a taboo to buy something based on design. I'm guilty of it due to Kamen Rider in general
>>
>>6203111

I mean Spider Gwen's popularity stems mostly from the design. People loved it so much from the moment it appeared and I think the like tons of fanart and cosplay from people who loved the design is what led to an ongoing comic. (Which is not to say anything bad about the writing or concept of the character/the issues she initially appeared in cause I haven't even read them, I was just like paying attention at the time and I really noticed how much everyone was kind of in unanimous agreement that the design knocked it out of the park and there was enthusiasm even from people like me who weren't even reading the actual arc where she appeared.)
>>
>>6203111
It would have been fine really if it wasn't reviving a dead character whose death actually mattered. I thought Gwen's death was actually one of the few deaths in superhero shit that matters but... of course, this being the cash grab bullshit superhero comics, it was only a matter of time when it was trendy to bring her back from the dead and make her Spider-Man because... female-empowerment.

I don't get why it can't be an entirely new female character. This and the fact that one of the artists who is involved with the design actually is a raging SJW who made physical threats to Frank Cho because he drew Spider-Gwen in a sexy pose... yeah... I really have a hard time liking the character or the design.
>>
>>6203683
