No new toys 'till march edition.

So the last few new releases out of China are coming in this week, then we have the long haul until March. What are you hoping to see after CNY?

My impossible dream is more Beast Wars stuff, primarily non-show characters and Transmetals.

Also more stylized figures like Striker Manus, and Japanese G1 stuff like Masterforce figures with articulated Masters.

Planet Steel express. I don't keep boxes and nothing was damaged so it all worked out.

>>6146269
>>6146344

He's definitely not awful but holy fuck the arms and hands are more shrimpy than I thought. The cannon piece that holds the guns together is way too big and doesn't align them like the art either. The alt mode is way off and the extra treads on the legs are unnecessary if they just did the shoulders right. The face sculpt under the mask is not worth the dead eyes and the flat mask though you get a lot of range with the head. The only tolerance thing I've found is that the treads that flip up on the shoulder doesn't lock in from what I can tell so MMC's crappy quality streak ended here. Not sure if I beat the horse enough. He's solid, even pretty good despite the design. It's just not nearly as good as he could have been.

Titanika is pretty fucking awesome despite the greebling mostly visible in vehicle mode. The colors and breakup, both plastic and paint, are superb, while the figure unfolds into a wide ass vehicle that rolls like a champ. The way the kibble sits and the feet form from the wheels just speak to me as a great transformer design. The beef is what I dig the most about the whole thing and its great to go from mode to mode and the headsculpt brings it together.

The shoulders are the biggest contention I have with it. It's reasonably limited thanks to the bulk and you can even untab the backpack and get a near 90 degree angle, but when put all together the pads bang into itself like Commotus but multiple times worse. The guns look great but the stock end extends too far back and just gets jammed in the shoulder pad too. While I like the knuckle guards the detailing on them looks a little silly and could have been a lot more fierce. In vehicle mode they are obviously arm assemblies from the back so better detailing wouldn't have killed Sark. I can't tell if there is a waist or not, but its too tight on mine to force if it exists.

>>6146204
How weird, my PSX Kultur order had black plastic corner pieces taped on all the outside corners. Took me forever to get it open and it had foam padding on all sides as well.

That's my secret, anon. I already own SoC and 1/60 Valkyries.

For people that own Quantron, are there any pieces that don't go into the combined mode that I should be aware of? I'm selling my friend's and I combined it for him way back when it first came out, and it sat on his shelf since. I'm going to look through the instructions, but wanted to be sure from someone that owns it them self.

So long as the fuck heug bow is on him the only extra parts are the metal storm gun that combines with the landing skid and the individual robot guns that can attach to the limbs.

This is kinda common for IF releases.

The issue being that on Devy, partsforming the lower arm is expected, and impressive if averted well enough. On Bruticus, the forearms are part of the limb bots, so I can see why anon would have an issue with it. What I don't get is why they couldn't do traditional combiner elbows like they did on the Throttlebot Combiner.

Evil lord is partsformery to an insane degree. Some of it really should have been integrated better for some options. You can sort of finagle fanmodes but they aren't entirely secure. Pic related doesn't use one of the back ramps and the gun barely slips in between the feet but it looks ok enough from the front and you don't have to remove any parts.

The bot mode is great though. The ab crunch really helps it.

I decided to go through the process of adding the new neckjoint to my Ironshell from TFC. Poseidon looks a great deal better with the neck part. It moves it forward just about an inch and makes the proportions a bit more tasteful.

I had to destroy the previous neckpart that came on the stock ironshell, cut the pin, remove the pin parts. After doing that, sand the black paint layer off the new pin, drill the pre-existing hole on the neck part so the pin would slide better, and then finally pop it all together. Great deal of work but I'm happy with it now.

To anyone who owns TFC Poseidon limbs, be careful with the silver paint. It can scrape easily.

Here's the after. (mind you, different poses because he can hardly fit in a detolf.)
>>
>>6149219
>Planet Steel Express magically had a lot more come in stock right when he hit
Makes me think all that "extra" stock was supposed to originally be for shipments to the US retailers and PSE/MMC didn't want to lose out on extra sales so they delayed shipping to them so they could miraculously pull out all these extras and sell them themselves.
>>
>>6149381
Looks pretty awesome and I can't wait for Thousand Kills!
>>
>>6149381
Is there a way to replace the joint without destroying parts, or is it inevitable?

Also, when they release their BWII repaint of the mold (as teased in one of the included comics), will they have the new neck joint pre-made, or leave it to the customer(s)?
>>
>>6149381
the head's still far too small for the rest of the toy.
>>
I decided to cave in and get Carnifex since I've heard so much about him. Is there anything I should be aware of when I get him though, are the shoulders really as bad as people say?

Thanks.
Does anybody have these?
Are they worth getting?

I kind of want to see some more before I drop $33 plus shipping on some hands and feet.
>>
>>6149431
No clue about the second

In regards to the first, i used a pin punch and didn't succeed in removing it. The pin was in so tight I had to use full sized pliers to remove the pinparts. I wanted to do it without destroying the old parts, but I figured it wouldn't matter after throwing it altogether anyways. They give you an extra pin.
>>
>>6149476
Just the KOs on ebay. They're fine. I have one original pair and the rest are all KOs and I can barely tell the difference.
>>
>>6149381
>It moves it forward just about an inch
Its like, 1/4 of an incha, 2/3 at most dude. Either way, it does look good, especially when you view the figure from low angles.

>sand the black paint layer off the new pin
That's not just paint, its a moisture barrier to prevent rust......
>>
>>6149446
Shoulders are just confusing the first few transformations.

One tip is that before you slide the backpack down, open it up and untab the wings from the back since those are what hold it in place. The instructions don't tell you this and i makes for some really frightening moments.
>>
>>6149431
>Is there a way to replace the joint without destroying parts

It MIGHT be possible, but because of the force you need to remove it, its highly likely you would end up breaking something else in the process.
>>
>>6149490

Cool.

TFC even suggests doing it, so I guess they're wrong.

I won this silly little bastard on ebay for $10. I don't really have any love for g1 designs but I do have a soft spot for robotic sabertooths (thanks to power rangers and Zoids). He's actually kind of endearing. And very well-made, like in terms of quality. The plastic feels really nice. I don't think I need the whole team, but if I could snag the megaloceras at a similar price I would.

You don't have to remove the master for beast mode like though, but he can come out and ride on him as an option. And since it's an option that makes it more fun. Also the handle of his head-gun ends up inside his mouth in beast mode to look like a little cannon in there when he opens his mouth. If these had just had a little bit of articulation in bot mode and less of a pin head look, these would have been fantastic. I know that would have defeated the purpose of a retro design, but it feels like there a lot of wasted potential in there. Maybe I'll give it new limbs.

FPCore had a blog post that the fifth piece - Megazero, the elk - was on the boat to the US, but a crew member was so engrossed in playing with the toy, he knocked the whole shipment into the water with a crane, and it was lost at the bottom of the ocean.

I'm still not sure about this set. I really like the look of it all (and Motormaster especially looks super good) but from what I've seen, it looks like the scale doesn't work with CHUG figures. Does anybody have any of the already released Stunticon cars that they could show next to a Generations deluxe class figure in both bot and alt mode? Preferably another car like Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Tracks/Wheeljack, etc.

They are MP scaled to go with the idw MP designs generation toy and g creations are doing. They are about the same size as mp sideswipe.

TW is just taking the combiner strat of partsforming to high hell with their stuff. It has plenty of benefits but it means that there's a ridiculous amount of spare parts when it's not a combiner.
>>
>>6151514

It's just the nature of combiners. I'd rather have a better figure with parts leftover than a slightly less good figure with integrated parts.

Of course, I have no idea if those TW combiners are any good at all, I don't own any of them. I'm just saying. Storing extra parts isn't much of an issue, you buy a tackle box, that solves everything.
>>
>>6151349

So judging by the transformation and kibble etc. Iron Factory's Seekers and Coneheads are basically enhanced versions of the regular Legends class seeker mold.
>>
>>6151522

I think Iron Factory in general as far as 3Ps go has transformations that are the most like (non-MP) official figures, because they tend to go with the most straightforward/simple transformation possible. The only reason there aren't more frequent 1-to-1 matches between their figures and official ones is that they tend to do Cybertronian modes and Hasbro tends to do Earth ones. But in cases like the Seekers or like Black Shadow when they do regular alt-modes, they do the transformations pretty much the same as official figures.

Iron Factory has done a really good job of reminding me how much I like simple Transformers and made me really realize that that's not actually the part I find underwhelming about recent official figures.
>>
>>6151349
Will Starscream be available by himself or will I have to buy a set like with the datsuns?
>>
>>6151517
>It's just the nature of combiners.
That's only true if you need your combiners to be larger than the sum of the parts.
>>
So now we have 3 third party Jazz offerings

how do they compare?
>>
So my last 3P purchase was Spartan and I've been out of the loop on new releases. Any recommendations on what's currently available? Preferably not a combiner and not over $200.
>>
>>6151540

He's by himself with cape and crown. TTC and SW are also single figure releases but without the crown and cape. THe Coneheads are a set of 3.

>>6151537

I like Iron Factory, but they do tend to rely on parts-forming way too much. Even if it's little things like City Commander's Hammer head in vehicle mode. Didn't get the Tactical Staff due to the whole robot mode door wings being the way they are.

I think there strongest figures for me are Blizzard, even if his jet mode is a vague-Cybetronian-thingy, the Fem-bots, Slipstream when?
>>
>>6151517
>>6151556

The TW constructicons were alright but had shitty CQ issues with some figures. They re-released them as a boxed set currently available for pre order for 150 bucks cheaper than buying them individually. The boxed set also comes with some more gewun parts if that sorts your taste.

Basically, wait for the better V2 figures re-released as a boxed set instead of being an early adopter cuck and getting shafted like Devastator buyers were.

It is weird that Transformers have the only major 3rd party toy market that I am aware of.

It seems like Overwatch (of all things) is starting to gain a significant 3rd party prescience.
Hopefully more properties will get the same treatment.
>>
>>6151732
>shit Q/C
As far as I'm aware, MMC didn't really have QC problems outside of their earliest shit. If you're talking about the Jaegertiplets, that was all problems with the design and engineering itself.
>every other MMC release sans Carnifex.
Feral Rex is great and from what I hear, the fembots, Hexatron, and the later Knight Morpher stuff was all very well received.

I think Jaegertron and his spawn and Seraphicus are really the only weak links they've put out recently. Dunno about any of the Ocular Max stuff though besides Jaguar and he's actually pretty fuckin great.
>>
>>6151759

I have Feral Rex and most of the fembots, they're all ace. My only gripe is the fembots FEEL flimsy but aren't, its kind of deceptive.

Before you slide the backpack at all, make sure the wings are folded out. Up or down, doesn't matter which way you're pushing the backpack, don't fold the wings back into the backpack before attempting to move it. Thats a major fault of the instructions, even the online ones don't tell you to do this, and you can definitely risk breaking something if you don't unfold the wings completely out of the backpack.

And no, the shoulders aren't bad, they're just confusing to work with the first time or so because it feels like what you're doing is probably wrong. Again, due to the instructions. Once you get it figured out, it's easy.

They're missing basic points of articulation on the larger size classes that was almost semi-standard on figures until the new design team took over. It's like a mandate that wrists and ankle rockers aren't allowed when engineering isn't the limiting factor. They are now few and far between.

Paint detailing is now being replaced with stickers that don't even conform with the sculpted detail.

Also the new voyagers look like this and they're going for $30 in my area.

To be fair, ankle rockers have always been rare, even on the accepted "highpoint" of official releases, 2009-2010.

Those two are also pre-tools for the actual characters of the mold: Octane and Blitzwing, and if you've been paying attention to TR at all, you've seen them shortchange the pre-molds for the actual characters. Look at how little paint Blurr/Sentinel/etc has compared to Brainstorm/Astrotrain/etc.

Iron Factory, and probably with whichever ones look best to you. Only ones I know people complain about are their Not-Blitzwing because he doesn't tab too well in some spots, and their Not-Soundwave/Perceptor/Blaster, because it's all based off IDW Blaster whose altmode was kind of just....There.

No thanks. I'd rather have them done right.

The demand for the figure far outweighed MMC ability to produce, plain and simple. Your basically saying that they should have done three runs all at once and stockpiled the figures from the first two runs before releasesing. Thats retarded.

Normal bots (Sideswipe to Optimus sized) should come up to a combiners shin or knee, roughly.

Quakeblast definitely. He's hard to find though because one of the other 3P's threw a hissy fit about him so other stores don't carry him, usually you can only find him on eBay.
>>

So Despotron coming up to Dev's knee is about accurate size then. >>6154338

It's a shame the Seacons are on the short side but I'm going to get them anyway.
>>
>>6154532

Fortress Maximus really puts the "Maximus" part to show. Also even toy-wise, Metro was much smaller than FM originally.

Wonder how big an actual MP scale FM would have to be. Surely he'd have to be at least 4 or 5 feet tall, right? Chromedome there in his pic is barely up to his toe.
>>
>>6154537

>you can cosplay FM and be scale accurate

I know what i'm doing next year!
>>
>>6154536

Well, it all depends on the scales you're working with. I mean, if you were using a Legends sized figure as your measuring stick, you'll need a much smaller combiner than normal. If you're using an MP figure, a bigger one. That sort of thing.
>>
>>6154542

I try to stick to CHUG, and iirc big bots like Megatron and Optimus hover around 9" in CHUG.
>>
>>6154548

CHUG usually places them around Voyager size, so thats around 7-ish inches.

citybot combiner.jpg

>>6154504

There really isn't one and its up to you. In most depictions combiners are fuck huge and mass shift into something larger than their component parts. If you are aiming for that, it's best to have a few figures at a smaller scale next to the combiner to emulate that look. IE: Legends class to deluxe figures next to Maketoy's/Fansproject sized combiners, or Deluxes and Voyagers next to Toyworld's Devastator. The individual parts really don't go well when uncombined though.

If you're looking for things that are the sum of their parts like some of the scale charts a figure in the same size class as a leg limb bot should come up to about the knee or right below the waist of the combiner

Ideally a combiner should strive to make their limb bots and torso grow as much as possible when in combined mode but that shit is hard to do. Toyworld uses extra parts, though some torso do a great job fattening up and widening out like TFC's Snaptrap. Personally I just stick Iron Factory stuff next to most of my combiners and call it a day.
>>
>>6154557

So I should buy some Iron Factory toys to go with my Feral Rex and Menasor then.

I actually did the math on this once using mp10 as a standard mp conversion and used that pic along with a bunch of other sources from various tf media.

MP10 is about 1/20th scale in robot mode, and that pic has max at 150meters so hed be about 7.5 meters tall or about 24 feet.

Basically you could build a shed the size of max' mp scaled base mode

Or if you wanted to cosplay, assuming an avarage height of 6ft, find a 2inchish Optimus

>>6155100
>Or if you wanted to cosplay, assuming an avarage height of 6ft, find a 2inchish Optimus

So, in theory, if Iron Factory wanted to do a to scale legends class Fort Max, he'd have to be the size of the average Joestar. God damn.

From pictures (since I don't own one yet because of the above), he looks about right. I'm not really seeing whats "off" about the guy.
>>
>>6156199
I've mentioned it in one of these previous threads but I'm the guy who saw him early on in-person at tfcon and he was disappointing to say the least. It's the proportions, his torso is tiny and it makes his arms and legs look overly long and gangly; and the mask with the black dead-eyes was a real turn off too. I mean I preordered the bastard anyway since it's the only one we're probably going to get but a little more work on MMC's part to fix the mask and a few other things would have been nice. At least they improved the hands though I guess?

He wasn't horrible looking by any means it was more of just "oh" when it should have been "holy shit!".

I mean Bluestreak instead of Smokescreen, but even so, Prowl and Bluestreak were there as often as Jazz was from the very beginning? First toyline and first episode and just about all of first season. The lack of door kibble helped make Jazz look distinct from them than if they went toy accurate.

The cartoon and his toy. They make no real sense and bend in random ways in the cartoon, the pylons either staying up or moving with the full arm. His toy just had the front of the tank and two pull out arms that went up 90 degrees from their storage to stick right out.

So I guess floating shoulder pylons are the best way to give him his bumpy shouldered look with keeping the arms free to move.
>>
>>6159025

I really wonder why no one just makes the shoulders part of the arm. Guessing it'd be too much of a pain in the ass to give them clearance for all of the shit that has to hang off his back.

Totally forgot G1 Blitzwing had basically Space Marine shoulders.
>>
>>6158990
>>6159025

All the MP blitzwings have a different solution to the retarded source material shoulders.

DX9'S take has the shoulder pylons on seperate armatures from the shoulders to fuck them about as you please. You can make it look like they are static and seperate from the shoulder or fold them with the shoulder to play pretend like they're all one piece. This has aesthetic and practical limitations for more extreme poses.

KFC Ditka appears to have opted to place the shoulders up into the pylons so they are all one piece. This means that the shoulder is the pylon and must rotate with it the arm.

Beserk (Improperly labled Phoenix) has opted to make the pylon static and keep the arms completely seperate meaning the arms will fuck about without the pylon.

It just depends on how you feel blitzwing should work because the animation just defied physics and didn't give a fuck.
