The Chinese new year means long lull in the release schedules for all manufacturers and will give your wallet time to recover after two brutal months of releases...or make you wait forever for your preorder to come out.

Some new shit:

>Gcreations Maximus coming in stock
>TFC's Deathclaw shipping
>MMC Kulur shipping to retailers if you actually got a preorder in
>MMC Cynicus (Vos) reissued and shipping to the usual places in the next week
>Fanstoys Sovereign in stock
>TFM Carnage in stock
>DX9 Dinobots hitting soon
>IF Shadow Tengu might be a casualty of CYN
>Same with Master Made Destruction Scorpion.

Might not be MMC but the case of its distributors.

MMC wouldn't care because in the end they're still getting that money in their pockets, but competitors won't like that.

tarn down for what.jpg
818KB, 1600x1200px
I just got Kultur in the mail and set him against Tarn's concept art. He's actually a lot better than I expected. The shoulders have a good range with one big soft detent joint and one massive ball joint - you can snug them up to make them look like one coherent piece or just fling them out any which way. His shoulders are a pain in the ass to draw as anything other than straight down or forward, so I was really surprised at how well they bend and look decent doing it.

The cannons can rotate, which I didn't expect. I don't actually mind the tread pieces at the back of the calves, though I wish they had a more solid lock. (Are the lower knee joints supposed to lock into the shin piece? I can't get them to do it.) The crotch is a bit odd in how it doesn't taper from front to back, and I notice his feety flaps pull themselves off the hinges. I don't see myself opening them often, but still. The only major disappointment is his mask, but I expect the Shapeways people to be breaking out their calipers right about now.

The comic was hilarious.

So, FansToys' Sovereign is great and all but
I just saved my house from what would have been a successful home invasion with him.

I absolutely cannot praise this figure enough
Some jackass snuck into my home through my unlocked door when I took my dog out to the bathroom.
Lo and behold I find the fuck making his way back towards the entrance after I cleaned my pup up in the kitchen.

I wasn't sure if this guy was armed or anything but the fact that he was in my house uninvited really blew a fuse
The first thing I did was tell him to get the fuck out of my house and I grabbed the first thing I could reach
Sovereign, sitting right there on a table at the end of the hallway that leads to my front door
Grabbed Sovereign and immediately chucked it right at that fuck's head.
This figure is heavy as fuck and must have dazed him because he made a mad almost belligerent dash towards the door and ran out.

Sovereign may have saved my life
I'll have to get a new one because most of the plastic bits on the back broke off but man
This is one lovely figure.

And no, the idiot didn't take anything, he must have just gotten there a little before I got back.

I know this figure is somewhat divisive since it's an undersized ko and its competition (PE) is a huge new mold, but I love the size/improvements so I'm hype af

>>
>>6133075
>Might not be MMC but the case of its distributors.
>MMC wouldn't care because in the end they're still getting that money in their pockets,

No, MMC is different, they set the MSRP for their product. Even in ching chong land where 3rd party stuff is normally 30-40% cheaper, MMC stuff is still $100 plus and apparently, they are very adamant about retailers maintaining the price point they set.

Apparently, another retailer (who will remain nameless) wasn't happy with the competition and turned GCI in.
>>
>>6133679
>Apparently, another retailer (who will remain nameless)

Oh, also, I'd be tempted to email FansToys with the story to see if they'd hook you up with a replacement/parts, for use of the story as ad copy.

>>
>>6133579
That's fucking amazing. I always wondered if someone ever managed to defend themselves with a TF and now I know.
>>
>>6133677

Yeah in my opinion the only thing standing between this figure and "perfection" are fully articulated fingers and a show accurate beast face.
>>
>>6133682
>It was BBTS wasn't it.

What are the Must Have 3P to get? Assume you have a budget of $500 USD
>>
>>6133771
>What are the Must Have 3P to get?
Thats very subjective man, and there is a ton to choose from.

If you prefer G1 stuff, go with Fans Toys. If you prefer IDW stuff, go with MMC. IF you want the most bang for your $500 and dont care about scale or aesthetic, go with Iron Factory, they wont disappoint.
>>
>>6133771

What are you looking for? What size figures do you like? Do you like G1 only? IDW? CHUG? Do you like anything as long as it's a TF?

Depending on your answers, that $500 probably won't buy you a full figure (lol 3P combiners), or could buy you 4-8+ figures.

Can you twist the guns around so the barrel faces the ceiling or will the tread on the shoulder block it? I saw you can mount the entire piece on his back in pic related like the comic. I don't know what it is about the spacing of the guns but it looks extremely awkward compared to the art. That is my biggest beef with him.

>>6133579
Post proofs. Send to Fanstoys.

>>6133771

There is no "must have" since there is so much stuff all over the place. Nothing is perfect, and one person's grail is a pile of shit to another. It's all down to what you're interested and what you would like. There are plenty well made figures to choose from though.

FT Sovereign, it'll protect your home

said im just looking for the best made and most bang for your buck TF to play abd do dioramas with.
>>
>>6133866
PlanetSteelExpress. I was late to realize he went up for preorder and that was the only place that still had him. Free shipping too. Got there on a tip by another anon here, so much thanks to that guy.

>>6133853
You can mount the entire piece 'upside-down' so the guns are facing up, or else you can take the guns out of the piece and mount the piece the 'right' way down, and mount the guns facing up. Either way, you need to tilt them outwards a bit to avoid hitting the treads. You need to tilt the guns out a little more with the second option as opposed to the first. The hole on the forearm is actually a rectangular shape so you have to unpeg the mount, then put it back in the other way, no twisting.

I think it looks better in person than in stock photos, but that's all opinion.
>>
>>6133905

MMC's Hexatron is a very good place to start. One of the best 3P figures out there.
>>
>>6133905
For CHUG, MMC Hexatron is a winner. If you are ok with IDW MMC Carnifex.
>>
>>6133965

Not too many companies doing a more traditional look anymore since almost everyone grabbed their shit and bum-rushed the MP train at the same time.

The closest a company that I think got the closest to CHUG "style" was early Toyworld with their Throttlebot combiner. You can find component guys there for really cheap, like Searchlight and they aren't even bad.

We have a lot of stylized remakes from the likes of Maketoys and Fansproject. I would recommend the Cross Dimension line since they're fun and playable, while being distinctly different takes. Maketoys Manga Mech trio fit the bill pretty nicely too but they are mostly comic accurate. Retailers always have the Deluxe insecticon trio on sale and they're pretty fun to mess with.

Planet X has the Fall of Cybertron games covered fairly well if that extends into CHUG. Most of their releases are fairly strong. Grimlock is excellent and their two recent releases are great too.

MMC has some strong releases if you like their style. Their Impactor mold, The DJD trio, and Strika are great. Carnifex is huge and expensive but he's technically in scale and extremely well made.

Perfect Effect is hit and miss. Warden is a great robot, maybe one of the best, and not much else. Their upcoming Primal might be a return to form after the build quality problems of their recent figure releases.

As far as combiners go I would throw TFC's Seacons, MMC Feral Rex, UT Ordin, and both Generation Toy and Toyworld Devastators in there for different reasons. I couldn't recommend Ordin though. The individual bots save for Troll don't hold up. Everyone else has fairly solid stand alone members. Maketoys and Fansproject Combiners might be too out there to be "chug" but their teams go great with Cross Dimension stuff.

At Legends scale IF can't be beat. Most of their recent stuff has been fantastic and you really can't go wrong if you like the look of something. DX9 might catch your eye with recent things though.

He's more visually interesting than MT's offering and I like how his feet look more solid (MT's look kinda thin and just look like they have panels loosely hanging off of them) but I really don't like the overdone decals in alt mode or the Megatron abs. Also, looks like a his forearms have noticable gaps in bot mode where the fists flip out (how do we have TFs at MP scale, in this day and age, that can't utilize the tried and true panel cover method for flip out fists?) and while the feet look more like solid chunks, the upper calves now look skinny with window panels trying to fill in the space.

Still gonna pass on this guy.

Let's see, so far we have
- GT offering an interesting CHUG design in MP scale, thus resulting in an identity crisis
- MT offering up a nice intuitive transformation but a design that is so slavishly G1 animation model that it has even less detail than your standard MP
- TW offering MP scale with too many sponsoship decals, questionable aesthetic, shitty forearms, and Megatron abs

How do we have 3 third party Jazz figures that have all missed the mark?

I guess I'm just gonna stick to Takara Jazz for CHUG since 3rd party seem to have no interest in CHUG Jazz and wait on FT to eventually do an MP since they're so far the only 3rd party that knows how to strike that balance of animation accuracy and toyetic detail that makes a good MP figure and we know Takara ain't moving on Jazz anytime soon...

This does raise the question: Is it better to get as accurate to the source material as possible, or to try and make it look good and functional as possible (even though these two points aren't mutually exclusive)?

I'm obviously waiting for reviews, but I liked all of the figures I've bought from them, just seems like they botched specifically the Leonidas mold really hard. This one seems like it could go either way, cause it's also big, but it's not shaped anything like Leonidas so it will have bigger joints, etc.

But yeah I have their Reflector, Arcee, and Fort Max and they're all good figures in my opinion so if they can replicate that level of quality and I'll be happy

I just hope I can find a review that isn't made by someone in the middle of trying to convince themselves that they like it lol. I remember all the Leonidas reviews at first were people like saying all of these sort of halfhearted sounding positive things while handling what was clearly a floppy mess lol

No actual physical or common qc issues, its probably one of the most stable combiners. The scramble city and target master gimmick is done perfectly, none of the forms have suffered with them tackling both aspects.

The only thing is its pretty hard to get it to hold a member in gun mode with one arm, its possible but just a tad difficult. Though Not-Tentakill is coming with a add on kit to make the arm and elbow lock into place.

Would recommend.

Hexatron is pretty much the definition of fun, though.

Anyway, if you want less detailed, the DX9 is probably alright. Personally, he looks underdetailed and chunky in an unfun way. But to each their own.

I'm banking that the IF one is going to be pretty great. I had gotten their Windsaber a while ago and I just got their Arcee today, and those are great. Depends on if you like Legends scale, though.

If you want a CHUG one, MMC's Hexatron.

If you want a Legends-sized one, IF's.

If you want a MP style one, one of the MP ones.

Best overall is probably up to individual taste seeing that there is a developing range of 3P Sixshot's to choose from. Personally though, I think Hexatron is the best. But again, all up to taste.

Just a little word of warning about the IF Arcee, the pink backpack is held on to the lil' white part by glue. I found this out the hard way, when it just popped off my Arcee's back.

I still need to get some superglue or something to fix it, since it doesn't hold on without glue apparently. Though just keeping it slotted into the white part holds it well enough for messing around.

So I know I'm going to have to pay a hell of a late tax on this guy, but before I go through with it, does anyone have any comments on Hyper Novae?

I really liked the RtS Optimus Mold, so having an improved version of that mold that's a character with no toys that also has giant angel wings is something that really appeals to me. Are there any issues anyone had with him? Any articulation weaknesses or other problems that would ruin him?
>>
>>6140422
Articulation is incredibly limited.
Hes deluxe scale, so keep that in mind.
>>
Is WeiJiang working on a Megatron the size of MPP-10 Prime and what is word on the Soundwave KO
>>
>>6140422
At this point I don't think he would be worth the late comers tax. Novae was fairly expensive even by 3P standards at the time, especially for his size. If you can get him for less than retail, then sure go for it but he isn't worth $200+ for a 4 year old figure.

His articulation is severely lacking, so don't expect to have him in any crazy poses. He also had issues with parts being to tight so people were having issues with breakage.

I'm hoping MT will revisit the character and release another version of him under the cross dimension line, as apart from his unique design Novae doesn't hold a candle to the newer MT stuff.

Why have there been no attempts at updating Galaxy Force Starscream, downscaled Galaxy Force master galvatron or anyone else from galaxy force?

I would love a weijiang galaxy force line, starscream, galvatron and optimus at least deserve updates, if not the lion arm bots too.

Maketoys has teased that they are working on a new GF Starscream. Although a bit chunky, I think the original voyager is still a pretty good Screamer. Definitely My favorite toy of Screamer.

>downscaled Master Galvatron
Why? The original was awesome and being a big guy really works for his final boss feeling. The only improvement that can really be done for Master Galvatron would be better hands, but those are fine for their time and age.

Now, Armada/Energon Megatron/Galvatrons could use updates. Armada is a decent figure, but needs more articulation badly. Energon is still one of the best G1-esque Galvatrons we got, but there is definite room for improvement.

Although I think the CR/RID Mega/Galvatron figures are pure sex, I secretly hope IF does a Legends scale version of him.

GF Optimus is pretty great too. I can't think much to upgrade him. Leobreaker sorely needs some 3P love, though.

I want him swooshable, not chuckable, and having him around ultra/voyager size would make him less clunky overall and less likely to "ow my back!" in dynamic poses.

but mainly I want him to scale with MP cars, not RC cars in car mode.

add the idea of dual wielding handguns of DOOM and battle claw fenders, and all you'd need would be a smaller, better, liobreaker design (bonus if using a combiner wars compatible joint slot so we could have him force combiner limbs to work for him)

and oh yes, we need better, bigger hands for him.
>>
>>6141363
galaxy force optimus is best when given better articulation, same as cybertron starscream DESU, the hybrid style option makes is of interest, but for the price, I'd rather get a combiner team.

A: They had a shit load of QC issues with the first release of the figures and didnt really offer any fixes.

Long story short, they fucked over the people that supported them in the initial release.

Well they did send out replacement parts to retailers and if you contacted them on FB they'd send them directly to you. The thing that gets me though is them selling the upgrade parts. Esp for Longhaul who can't even stand up. Those parts should be free.

Iron Factory. I collect MP pretty exclusively. I like big things.
>>
>>6141785
Ugh, that kind of sucks. I loved commotus, but his shoulders were hot garbage too, it's weird how MMC keeps having trouble with them.
>>
>>6142409

FT. I just don't have the wallet to be tossing out $150 or so per figure.
>>
>>6141961
I personally love this menasaur, just what ive been wanting for, but youre totally right.

Im honestly surpeised too, the blocky asthetic of G1 Menasaur seems like it would lend itself super easily to the design challenges of making qn MP combiner.

I mean we all knew devestator was always gonna get top billing in the 3P combiner market but menasaur seems like the easiest second choice, especially once the MP style got super consistent after MP10 and they started cranking out car bros
>>
>>6142464
Same here, though not necessarily MP exclusive. Its just that the value on bigger 3P seems so much better compared to $20+ legends. At a slightly larger scale, like Scouts, or robot Damashii, I might be more interested.
>>
>>6142506

Now the MP has shifted focus again though. Now it's trying to be more cartoon accurate than ever. Dunno why it keeps changing like this, now peoples collections are going to be all weird.

Not that it matters much to myself, I only own 2 MP style figures, and I don't really collect anything in particular, just whatever appeals to me. I do wish we had one really good, CHUG or G1-esque Menasor though. The IDW versions of Menasor never really looked that good.
>>
>>6141573
I like it. Hope they do a boxset for him too, fuck buying the individual figures.
>>
>>6142513

This is why I mostly dropped the MP business and just pick up the odds and ends. Prime and the Seekers look really fucking weird next to Inferno and Shockwave because of all the proper vehicle detailing on the former. The Car Bots are fairing better but its still slightly jarring. Optimus will definitely get a V.3 but Takara is too knee deep in finally getting around to the Seeker remolds to churn out a new cartoon mold of them anytime soon.
>>
>>6142614

Honestly, they can't really improve much on MP-10 besides adding a bit more articulation. Ball jointed flaps for the crotch so the legs can get more upward motion, maybe a double joint in the knees for better knee bends.
>>
>>6142468
At least with Commotus you can still achieve any angle with the arm, you just have to angle the shoulder appropriately. It is a bitch and a half though having to adjust the pauldron + bicep assembly every time though.
>>
anyone own IF asura knights?
how do they stack up to the standard IF stuff?
>>
>>6142664

They are the bulkiest next to Lord Scorpion. They got the play pattern and the sculpting of any IF release but I will say they feel a little dated given IF's new stuff and rapid release schedule. With their delay they sort of ended up in a situation where they were designed in a previous generation. It's mostly the joint design that makes it feel like that, though the detailing of their new stuff feel a smidge ahead. The sculpt work and the paint are still great and they are accurate to their source material.

Their original price of $180 is a fucking rip. When they realized that was retarded and reduced it...$150 isn't much better. You can get them for $130 if you look hard enough which is more reasonable. Action Robo has them in stock for $110 and around $15 shipping to get it to the states.

Do you have Ordin?

I'm curious to see how Poseidon scales to him.
>>
>>6144581

Alright, give us the full up and down sides of his combiner mode.
>>
>>6144646

He can mostly hold his weight and just about the majority of the poses he's capable of given his range of motion. The ports on his body hold all of his limbs tightly and given how they designed each limb, it all fits together really well. His feet can expand and that alone gives him more stability. It's mostly solid.

The sword combines well and everything snaps together solid.

I do have a few complaints with his combined mode.

His weapons weigh a fuck ton and you can pose them, but be wary because it can be tricky to pose.

Another complaint is that his skir is a single piece and it'll all bend together when you bend his legs forward.

I do not like the fix they gave us for the head. Removing the pin is gonna be a pain in the ass but I'm sure it'd make his head position look better. I bought a watch pin punch so I'm hoping i can do it soon.
>>
>>6144689

Whats wrong with the head?
>>
>>6144693

They give you an extra neck-joint with Deathclaw so that it positions his head more towards the front of his torso.

The issue is - you have to use a pin-punch to remove the current pin to replace the head joint.

TFC released a video on how to do this and holy fuck does it look convoluted and tough to do.

It forms the cockpit of his alt mode and that's about it as far as we've seen. He comes with two "cannons". One is for his jet mode as an autobot, the other is a big drill for his tank (but still very jet-like) mode as a pre-war mining bot.
