Rogue One is out! Which purchases are you satisfied with/regretting?

RECENT AND UPCOMING RELEASES:
Black Series darth revan wave is out sporadically, ymmv though. Singles are occasionally coming in stock at hasbrotoyshop, dorkside toys, amazon, and bbts. Set up alerts or die trying at retail.
Black Series shoretroopers are walmart exclusives, and are occasionally available on their site for retail. Black Series hovertank pilot is a toys r us exclusive, and thousands of them can be found at each store.

Figuarts K-2SO, shoretrooper, deathtrooper, and vader reissue are out now. The hovertank pilot and renewal stormtrooper are out in january, ANH han is due in feburary.

Apparently the recently released disney store exclusive 1/6th figures are pretty good, and are available on their site.

Figuarts isn't much better but still above Mafex.

Are there any good unmasked heads to swap onto Mafex Boba? This old Neca figure was the best thing I had, it looks okay but it's slightly bigger than it should be.
>>
>>6086811

Mafex Shoretrooper and Deathtrooper look great and come with parts to make all versions but what is it with their release dates? Realistically these won't be out until like next fall...
>>
>>6086575
Was something wrong with the fogure from which you had that Red Skull head?

>>6085102
Everytime someone posts TPM style packages I am tempted to buy a cheap Valorum, Bibble and youngest Sheev.

>>6084825
How tall are these compared to Black Series?

>>6086829
3 inch figures were great. Too bad the selection is so bad now. I actually sold nearly all my 3 inch figures and switched to 6 inch for the better details and articulation but the smallness and look of a good articulated 3 inch figure is still nice.

>>6086841
> have a box full of Terminator heads
Wonder if one of them fits.

How are the chances that Figuarts releases a Kamino style Jango with the other jetpack and a human head + removable headset? With all the critizising and pricedrops it seems like a good reason to release a "fixed" version.
>>
>>6086849
I'm not sure about the shoretrooper, but the death trooper is august. I'd really like to know why mafex is so consistently late to the party.
>>
>>6086811
>The PROTOTYPE rifle is already warped

Oh this is going to be good. Mafex have improved a lot and Boba Fett's their first bona fide must-have, but let's not pretend that something's better just because it has a hollow trigger.
>>
>>6086849
It's an absolute joke that their Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma figures haven't been released yet.

The Force Awakens has been out for an entire year now.

>How are the chances that Figuarts releases a Kamino style Jango with the other jetpack and a human head + removable headset?

Slim to none. Just as much chance of them making young Boba Fett in my opinion.
>>
>>6086855
Shore trooper is August barring any usual delays that seem to happen with Mafex figures.
So just in time for people to forget about Rogue one and focus on episode VIII

Almost all the pictures I took had Captain Fordo in them due to a friend of mine being fond of the both of them, so I'm kind of embarrassed about them, but here you go anon. Plus, most of the pictures I took weren't great.
>>6086854
As someone only just getting into 3.75 inch stuff, honestly it's just nice to have about 16 years of good figures to go back and pick up. Though I do prefer 1/12th stuff overall, I can't wait on Hasbro for clones forever. I feel your pain though anon, but hey at least you hopped of the scale as it was dying, over hopping in when it was.
Got to see the golden years and all that.

>So just in time for people to forget about Rogue one and focus on episode VIII
This. I guess their QC is improving, and the troopers are helmeted, so that's a huge plus, but you've gotta wonder how much they're losing out releasing everything a year late. I might have bitten on a death trooper just because he comes with the specialist gear, but I'm not holding out until then.
>>
>>6086867
No clue, I'm not into 1/6th stuff but someone was talking about them earlier so I figured I'd include them. Check the last thread for impressions.
>>
>>6086871
I ended up cancelling my order for the First Order troopers cause I lost interest with how long they were in been released.
When was their Rey meant to be released? Seems like it should have come out by now.
>>

Are there any models of the Frigate? Black Series, Hot Wheels?....

If you've seen Rogue One you know what I mean.
>>
>>6086935
I haven't seen any in the Hot Wheels or Black Series. rebelscum might be your best bet to confirm, since they usually have a good list of what there is.
>>
>>6086937
I don't suppose there would be yet, since it's kind of meant to be a surprise... I'll check that site, thanks.

They've been in rebels for a while now, so the lack of toys is extra surprising. Speaking of ships, is the black series or hot wheels stuff any good? I kind of want krennic's shuttle and the cargo shuttle, but I haven't bought ships in ages and I don't know what to expect from either line.

With Rogue One officially showing Vader in action, what's Mafex's excuse for not including a lightsaber blade?
>>
>>6087113
It's not out for another 2 months, all there is are promo pics. I'm sure it will come with a blade.
>>
>>6087094
What's the problem? They're the best troop builders outside the Black Series (which are sold out half the time where I live).
>>
>>6087090
Having that Luke in your display made me instantly disregard your opinion.
>>
>>6087113
The hot toys promo pics didn't have a blade either, so it was almost certainly a fakeout for his scene at the end. I think it's kind of cool because it actually worked on me, but I'd probably be pissed if I were in the market for a vader.

>>6087115
I think that'd be more surprising.
>>
>>6087124
It's possibly based off an early version of his involvement (or lack of) in the film before the reshoots happened, which almost entirely changed the third act.

>>
>>6087136
>You don't know how to build models, do you?
I build Gundams my dude. BUT, I will admit I'm a elitist faggot and only get Figuarts or Mafex, and sometimes black series. So I'd rather get a figure than a model.

I like the Titaium line. I'm playing catch up on a few of them and they're getting hard to find at good prices.
I started collecting them because I got tired of hunting down my old action fleets at reasonable prices. The titanium line is kind of filling the void.

The new cargo shuttle is probably the coolest one in the line. I'd grab it now while it's shelf warming.

Also I finally found the Death Star which was exciting after finding the wave about 25 times with it being the only one missing

I've had revan for a couple days now, and I'm warming up to him, but I still think he needed some more work. The hood doesn't bother me at all, which I guess was most people's problem, but his height is a big (kek) problem. He looks alright next to some figuarts, but he's out of scale within his own line.

Secondly, I don't know what it is about toy makers putting out dudes with curved feet, but it does revan absolutely no favors. I was wondering why he kept falling over in pretty basic poses until I noticed the front third of his feet are curled up like elf boots. Hopefully I can heat them up and bend them flat.

Get the upcoming SHF Stormies. Their sculpt is a marked improvement over the previous release. Revos are great if you're really into exaggerated poses and don't care about proportion accuracy. Bandai model is good but needs a little work to stop shrugging. As a person who buys everything from Hasbro to Hot Toys, I have to say that the Black series 6 inch Stormies represent an excellent value.

If so, would anyone want to take a picture so I can see if it looks goofy or not?

Looks good, fun to pose. Haven't seen RO myself, but it's a great figure regardless.

yeah anon, just like what >>6087635 said, the Jango Fett is not the best release for the star wars figuarts line. I have the Darth Maul, and despite the soft plastic of the lower part of his robes/tunic it's a pretty damn good figure.
>>
>>6087643
>despite the soft plastic of the lower part of his robes/tunic it's a pretty damn good figure.
Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about that? I think it was one of their better implementations of longer robes, I wish kylo's had turned out as well.
>>
>>6087644
My main concern is just longevity. It doesn't get in the way in any major poses, especially not in any main poses that the character would pull off. With that being said, I worry about the plastic drying and flaking off in a few years. I've seen it happen with the old Deneb figuarts and I hope that won't happen any time soon on Maul.
It's just a trade off i suppose since if they used soft goods or harder plastic it wouldn't be as good of a figure as it is now.
>>
>>6087648
Fair point, I'll admit I'm not familiar with those. Mine seems fine so far, even after I left him posed so the robes were bowed out for the better part of a year. Here's hoping he holds together.

Not that guy, I bought two when AmiAmi put them on sale. I can make an almost perfect one combining parts from both but there is some really confusingly bad paint apps you usually don't get with SHF. Like two of his guns aren't even close to being painted right on the black vents. These are details Bandai usually excels at. One had mostly good brown straps and the other was messy. One had issues on the helmet, the other didn't.

I totally get why it binned just on QC alone. Floppy torso (easy fix) and dumb engineering on shoulders didn't help either. Hope they do better for Boba.

>>>6088649 What a retarded decision on their part though, starting out with a gigantic, overpriced vehicle that no one really cared to own.
>Tie Fighter
>no one really cared to own.
I think the problem here is that they started off by making Force Awakens, which is a bad movie.
A Tie Fighter is the right choice, since it's one of the most icon vehicles ever made. Despite being from a shitty movie, it still almost identical to the originals, which means even non-sequel fans may like it.
>They really should've started smaller with Rey's speeder, or Luke's landspeeder
The fucking popsicle? You're dumb. And the landspeeder is also lame. XWing? MUCH huger than a Tie Fighter and harder to cheat on its scale.

You know what they DID start on? Speeder Bike, which is also one of the most iconic vehicles ever made and guess what? IT also shelf warmed like crazy, got clearanced off for $15 in most places, and you can STILL buy it cheap.
1/12 scalefags are poorer than 1:18 scalefags, because at least 1:18 collectors take advantage of the clearance and buy up all the stock. Shit like the Speeder Bike would sell out and never make it to clearance either.

I'd check in the Customs thread, and see if you can get any advice on how to make their armor look more worn out.

My advice is giving some of the edges of his armor a sort of dusty/scuffed effect, specifically in areas that would receive more environmental contact (feet, shins, forearms, etc.). Just don't go too heavy covering everything, you're making them look worn, not battle-damaged.

If you're asking about the Figuarts, I just opened mine up along with the Shoretrooper and K2.

Pictured from left to right; Black Series, Figuarts, and 3.75" Black Series (which is superb by the way).

The Figuarts is very nice! I think Hasbro did a great job with the Black Series, but I do think they made the limbs a bit too long and thin on theirs. The SHF, on the other hand, nails the proportions and looks way more like a person is actually wearing the armor.

My one gripe about the SHF is the shoulders/shoulder armor. You need to take some extra care when posing them, otherwise they can end up looking a bit off (as they do here). I'll follow up with a pic where I took a bit more time when posing the shoulders.

While the extreme range offered by the SHF's shoulders make posing them a bit more work, it's well worth the effort as it lets you pull off very natural firing poses.

I didn't get the Black Series K-2, as I didn't think the more pliable plastic Hasbro uses for Black Series figures would really work in the long-run with K-2's very long, thin limbs (my Black Series IG-88 will topple if left in any standing pose for too long). So I can't give a definitive comparison there, but I will say looks-wise, the finish Bandai has applied to the SHF K-2 is excellent. It just perfectly conveys a sort of dull metallic look that just looks so darn nice in-hand and looks way more accurate to how he looked in the film compared to the Black Series.

SHF K-2's articulation is also excellent with nice and stiff joints, which makes standing him a breeze (though Bandai did include an Act 4 Stage with him, which is nice!). You get some swappable hands too, though I wish they'd included a blaster for him. So again, I can't definitively compare him to the Black Series, but the SHF is definitely worth picking up.

In this photo K-2 is supposed to be tossing the Shoretrooper aside, but I don't think I quite got it, haha.

I'll talk about the Deathtrooper in the next post!
>>
>>6089026
No its not military intelligence is like star wars cia. They have no overlap in duties or scope.

>>6089007
As to the Deathtrooper, again I think the Black Series is very, very good considering the price point, but the proportions and articulation of the SHF are noticeably improved. It's not quite the grand slam that the SHF First Order Stormtrooper had over the Black Series (in my opinion anyways, haha), but it's enough to make the SHF Deathtrooper worth picking up for its advantages.

If you're already happy with how the Black Series looks though, I'd say you can safely pass on the SHF.

>>6089009
Good question! That is not the standard Black Series Deathtrooper, rather it's the Specialist trooper from the Target exclusive 3-pack. The standard one does not have the gear webbing and pauldron (ie it's a "bare" trooper like the SHF). Sorry, should have clarified that earlier.

I just marathoned rogue one

What did i think of it?

I wish krennic was a respectable stand alone villain instead of a little bitch. I enjoyed tarkin and vader of course but its weak to rely on the same big bads. Krennic was poorly utilized.

Also how would Bodhi's dirty ponytail pass any imperial soldier standards.

Wtf i hate star wars now
>>
>>6089038
I was thinking the same thing about Bhodi. There's no way an imperial pilot would look like that.
>>
>>6089036
I'm glad you said it was a target only one, because I want the pauldrons. I'm just worried now if I do anything that has Krennic involved I want three or four guards with him. What comes with the pualdroned trooper?
>>
>>6089038

How does one marathon a single movie?
>>
>>6089038
>I wish krennic was a respectable stand alone villain instead of a little bitch.
But tarkin constantly eating krennic's lunch was easily one of the best parts of the movie. I had an ear to ear smile when he pushed the button on an entire imperial facility just to put himself in charge of the death star.

>Also how would Bodhi's dirty ponytail pass any imperial soldier standards.
I thought the same thing when I saw kallus in rebels. No way those sideburns are regulation.
>>
>>6089043
It's a /tv/ meme
>>
>>6089044
I liked that part too but it still works without krennic being a bitch. He just turned into a sniveling baby. Like how did he get to his level without playing the backstabbing moff game? No baby would hope to aspire to his level. I wish he took it in stride then planned his subversion.
>>
>>6089053
>Like how did he get to his level without playing the backstabbing moff game?

He clearly did, but then he ran headfirst into people who were better at it. Getting choked out by vader is a pretty good sign your imperial career is over.
>>
>>6089008
Yeah i really like the Death Trooper. Both he and the Scarif Trooper have double jointed elbows.
>>
>>6088510
Yeah, same for the most part. I wanted K-2SO, maybe Jin and some troopers, and that was it. Saw it and want the whole team plus some Shoretroopers.
>>
>>6088510
Same but the Rogue One black series shit is awful. I'll wait to see of Figuarts is going to do the whole main team first.
>>
>>6089080
Here's the Black Series and SHF standing toe to toe. As you can see the Black Series is a little bit taller.
>>

Got the MAFX Darth Vader for Christmas, the helmet sculpt is honestly way better than the publicity stills make it work, you can adjust it a little bit and push it forward to give it a bit more of that classic helmet "brow".

I've yet to buy any, but my impressions are...

Hot Wheels are a bit bigger.

Black series (titanium series) have moving parts. (BS X-wing can open and close wings. HW X-wing has fixed wings.)

Hot Wheels has cleaner and crisper paint detailing.

Black series has more painted details.

At first you could only set certain ships either in BS or HW. Both series seem to be closing the gap on that.

Some of the Black series are straight up repacks/repaints of ships from 00s and 90s.
>>
>>6089274
the hot wheels U-wing has moving wings

I really miss having more titanium series options though. They're more price efficient than x-wing battle game miniatures for those of us that just want models.

If you're courageous enough, I'd reommend modding his neck by cutting or sanding down the area around the peg to allow for more range of movement. It makes it much more natural looking for Vader to look down at people, which he'll be doing a lot consider he's a big guy.

>>
>>6091513
I think there's a difference between not immediately selling out and bargain binning. Jango was a prequel character who was extremely love it or hate it, the rogue one stuff is mostly troop fodder which has always been pretty safe. I'm pretty sure jango's sketchy popularity and shitty qc was a perfect storm for discounts, I can't remember any of the star wars figuarts doing as poorly as he apparently did, not even the battle droids.

Also, the renewal OT stormtrooper coming next month might be taking a chunk out of R1 sales. I know I skipped out on half of what was available in december because I've got three of those fuckers coming in january.
