For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

>>
I'm thinking bout building the 1/100 real robot revolution L gaim mk 2 for the next group build. Has anyone here built this kit? the inner frame looks glorious, but the single tiny waist piece scares the shit out of me, is it easily breakable? i think im going to replace it with a metal piece for strength.

Godspeed.
>>
>>6084151
Maybe it's more secure once fully assembled? Seems like a poor design choice if not.
>>
>>6084223

yeah it probably is much more secure with the armor on. But i want the option of leaving some of the inner frame exposed, and i definitely think holding up the entire upper section with one thin plastic piece is a bad design decision, I have to deal with it since its basically the closest we'll ever get to a five star stories design made by bandai. I think i'm going to have to mod it in some way. at very least i'll run a metal pin up that part.
>>
>>6084251
Replacing it or bracing it with metal could certainly work. Otherwise I'd just reinforce it with plaplate. Good luck dude, keep us posted. I'm invested now, i want to see what you do.

The part covering that bit is soft rubber.

I built it a couple years ago, so dont really remember, but it's still holding up, so it isnt prone to breaking, I suppose.
>>
>>6084151
looking at dalong, looks like that bit is kind of reinforced by a plastic housing covered with rubber.
>>
>>6084290

just checked dalong. thanks that makes me feel it will be robust enough but my inner ocd still makes me want to pin it.

>>6084281

Good to know. How did you find the threading wires part of the head assembly? doesnt look like fun from the instructions. Also, does it limit the head movement much?

>Good luck dude, keep us posted. I'm invested now, i want to see what you do.

will do. I'm going away for christmas to a house with a workshop, so i'll take it & get comfy prepping, building & deseaming the kit over my break. Ive ordered 4 different alclad metal paints that wont come in until early january, i want this thing to be all primed & ready to go by the time i get the paint.

Dammit, FAG is a fine kit, trashbag naysayers can piss off.

I'll take trashbag covers over those rubber covers like on the old Ingram kits any day. Those were awful.
>>
>>6084804
Aye.
>>
>>6084804
You mean the old 1/60 ones? I know the rubber covers on those greatly restrict articulation, but I remember hearing somewhere that the joint covers could also potentially eat the PS plastic underneath them. Is that true? I always toyed with the idea of sewing cloth replacements for them but I never got my hands on one of those kits to try that.

>>
>>6084922
It's more like there is a stigma against people who tout that putting effort into kits is silly.
>>
>>6084906
They're not supposed to but it'll only be found out if something goes wrong or you get unlucky during customs random checks.

But it is shippable by Sea, which is literally by cargo boat. Which takes up to several months depending on where to where you want it shipped. The actually travel time from say US to Asia is probably a few weeks, but the cargo ships may take several weeks to fill up before sailing, so it can take 1 to 3 months depending on the schedule

This may come as a shock, but not everyone in the entire world has a hobby store in their town.
In fact, some towns don't even have grocery stores, walmarts, and so forth.
I understand that as an Amerifat, you never think about anything besides hamburger, but it makes you look hella retarded to say stuff like you do.

>>
>>6085261

same thing here. I used to have a local model store but it closed down a long time ago. I think its partly because current generations of kids dont give a fuck about building anything, unless its minecraft. There isnt really a new generation of people building kits outside of japan and stores supporting this hobby have died as a result.
>>
>>6085420
>There isnt really a new generation of people building kits outside of japan
Like, I guess? There's still a substantial amount of people making vehicle models in the UK who grew up before 1980 when airfix was huge, though. It's probably a bigger hobby here than the US.
>>
>>6085441
>There's still a substantial amount of people making vehicle models in the UK who grew up before 1980

Thats kind of my point. I'm in New Zealand but its basically the same thing, that really is the last generation of people who build models. It really isnt a thing for any of the younger generations anymore outside of Japan.

Zaku update.
Fitted a couple of fuel tanks to the backpack (wave option parts) and stuck on a couple of detail parts too.
Replaced the ball and socket joints on the cannon mounts with some much sturdier kotobukiya flexible arm parts.
Still needed to scratchbuild the middle coupling because the koto one had too much flex.

>>

I cant think of 2 stores that sell gunpla in New Zealand. As much as I'd like to support local stores, when they charge $90 for a HG I kind of want them to go out of business.

How does everyone store their empty boxes? Do you flatten them and stack them somewhere, or do you stack them fully and on display?
>>
>>6087492
I just stack them most of the time, sometimes when I repose my kits I put the kits box behind it as a makeshift background
>>
>>6087492
I stack them with the assembled, or partially assembled kit inside, runners as well. I lack proper space because of my penchant for clutter, so the only Gunpla I have out in view are three SDs. Boxes are great though, might as well keep them as boxes instead of flattening them if you have the room.

Started as a joke build that occasionally showed up at model shows and competitions iirc. Bandai and Sunrise made their own version for the gunpla Builders series. As someone in the states, it's surprises me how prevalent it is although it isn't shown on cable television anymore (to my knowledge). It seems to be a pretty popular medium up there with Dragon Ball. That's just based on how often I've seen Gundam merchandise or references to the show from other cartoons or tv shows. Kind of surprises me. In fact I found a few model kits at a home goods store years back at discount prices. Most hobby stores I go to have some sort of Gundam merchandise.

Just what color am I to color the thing?

The main color is all over the place in the movies. Sometime it looks metallic grey, sometimes it looks like the star destroyer grey/white, and sometimes really light brown.

I am think either white base coat with hand brushed light grey or full one of the Tamiya metallic/grey spray.

Not really. Nice detail and proportions, worse than the bb senshi line in everything else. Bigger/worse hollow gaps, pretty much all gimmicks removed, pretty much no clear parts even on kits that need them, etc.

Fans of SD kits were disappointed in them.

Anyone know what it would look like if you took a metallic gundam marker and painted it on the clear parts that go over cameras and other misc cameras? Like say instead of putting on this gold sticker I put on the metallic marker instead? Should I put it on the clear piece itself?

I got pic related for Christmas. I built a few Gundams and Zoids back in middle school - high school. It's been like over a decade now. How tough are the MGs to build? How good is this particular version of the RX782? I'm glad my bro got me the RX782. I would've wanted that or the MkII. What should an old fart like me expect from this?

Another example is on RX-78-02's head. Rather than put on the sticker, just paint some metallic red from the marker on it.

Fuck, I love this kit. Its impossible to keep the 3 lined one in its slot though, so I let it float.

Any of the wires seem a bit short? Already fixed the one on the left to match the right, but I don't know if this is long enough for them to connect to the other parts.

the one for the arms are just enough, if not too long once you plug the units that are actually lighting up the arms. There's going to be about a half an inch sticking out after threading it underneath the shoulder peg thing and you're gonna wish there wasnt enough wires because trying to fit it in there before putting in the back panel is a bit of work if you want it done correctly. I personally just shoved it in on the unicorn and just leave it out n the Phenex.

I finished victory yesterday, and that's not at all why. the legs and arms could fly independent of the core fighter, as showcased in the last few episodes when uso
uses legs as a distraction
, The kit itself has two core fighters because the core fighter is fucking cool and they're nice enough to let you have both at once

It's a bigger build than your standard models but it's still overall the same process. Cutting and clipping together. Comes with water transfers.
I find the shoulders a bit hard to pose without them popping out.
Also the stand is shorter than his legs whilst standing. Very back heavy.
