For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***
So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.
This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.
Submit to [email protected].
Due Date: March 1st, 2017.
Quickly must make an R-18 version.

The problem is not the customs fees, it's that DHL prepays them and charges on delivery. So I have to wait for the driver (Somehow they have taken to deliver to my workplace and they always arrive when I'm out for lunch) and then pay him in exact change (because heaven forbid they'd give the driver a wallet or a card reader) - which is a fucking hassle.
From what I can tell from other merchandise, (at least for low-cost items) the prices in Europe often aren't even that much worse considering EMS shipping and customs fees (I think I almost averaged 20€ per item for three Nendos and two Gunpla kits last time). It's mostly worth ordering in Japan for the better selection (including OOP stuff), second hand items, and earlier releases... unless the Yen tanks even more in the future.

hey Canucks,Leafs where do you get your gunpla? only small orders
>>6078077
Whatever the guide links.
What do you guys think of the Max Factory Dougram kit? It's on sale at a store near me. I've only built HG and RG, I only sand the surface to get a nice matte finish, to clean off nubs and panel line, only does painting for tiny, tiny details that are easy, like eyes on Zaku or to add a bronze color to frame joints etc... basically I'm not that skilled... and have never built any kit that is not from Bandai or Kotobukiya.
>>6078098
The waterslides were a bit of a pain for me in that some of them wouldn't stick, even after using Softer/Setter. Seams aren't as well-hidden as they are on modern Bandai kits, so expect to put some work into it.
can someone recomend me some good side cutters from amazon? i dont want to spend $30 on tamiya ones. is there even a difference between hobby cutters and wire side cutters?
>>6078152
They don't rust like murrikan shed tools, they're designed to align flush against a flat piece of plastic for a clean cut, and they're built for sharpness, not strength like normal hardware cutters.
Screw Amazon, hit up HLJ for some cheap Japanese ones.
>>6078152
Hobby cutters are made of a softer metal but have a finer edge since they're only made to cut plastic. Wire cutters are made of harder metal but the edge isn't as sharp. If you're buying really cheap stuff there probably isn't a big difference though.
>>6078171
huh... the Xuron 410 is meant for electronics but everyone says they are really good for gunpla?
>>6078050
Gotta get my hands on that bust.
>>6078176
They're one of the cheap ones.
I think the Xuron 2175ET is somewhat popular. I use it but only because I sand down everything anyway. It's not perfectly flush so it leaves a tiny nub to be filed away or cut with an x-acto. It's pretty cheap now, I got it for like $25 a year or two ago but it's going for $16 on amazon. Not sure if I recommend it since they're not perfectly flush but they're not bad if you're anal about filing things down, plus they still look new after a fair number of HGUCs.
>>6078152
Squadron's are pretty cheap and nice.
finally put the stickers on my rg red frame
still need to topcoat it once the weather clears up a bit
How are the HG/MG Crossbones? I'm tempted to pick up a full cloth and the black variant of the X-1 I think it is? They just have such a cool look, but I've never had experience with the kits or series.
>>6078308
HG Crossbones are good, although the hands can be really bad, but other than that they're nice.
Im curious, when did you guys start building kits? I started at the age of maybe 10. I spent so much of my christmas and birthday money on them growing up only to grow out of them at the age of 17 and throwing them all out since they were all snap fit or poorly painted.
I must've missed the premium decal sale of the Full Armor Gundam. Anyone have a site where they can still be purchased?
>>6077511
>GM revive never
I really like the look of the RD but I feel like it'd be more fun build it myself, and RDs are way more expensive
The worst part is that if we DO get a revive, it could just end up looking like the god-awful original HGUC GM head.
>>6078098
I've snapfitted a roundfacer. It's pretty much an old HG sold for 30$. It had a slighty painted canopy though.

yes on all the parts that are clearly handpainted
and shit like where you painted orange over the brown and orange over the white, so the oranges look totally different.
You should have started with white, then done the brown on top with the white parts masked, then to do the orange you mask those sections off, paint them white, and then paint them orange, then peel the masks. This way everything is consistent.
>>6078773
>That head

can someone help me clarify something?in the guide at the gesso section it says to add one part airbrush medium, and one part magic thinning sauce (which itself is one part future, one part water, and a few drops of retarder).
I dont get this since the magic sauce is an airbrush medium? surely this was maybe a typo and they meant or instead of and.

The waterslides worked well for me, though I used only a few, left them in the water for probably half a minute?, and used MicroSet perhaps liberally.
Some seams hid, others didn't. those that did hide hid well though.
Polycaps and peg/holes were a jumble of a bit tight, just right, and a wee bit loose.
>>6079078
Yeah, gonna be easier to go over the darker oranges since there's few of those spots and more of the lighter spots. Less overall work o tackle.
Welp, got the Leopold Di Vinci snapped together and started on painting the other Graze while it's still on the runners...
...Is it safe to assume an acrylic paint that doesn't rinse out with water is probably alcohol-based?
I was thinking about practising some water decals before I do the ones on the TIE but apparently I left my spare decals at school. I'll see if the local stores have any for cheap. I'm going to need either Mr Mark Softer or MicroSol, right? Are both required at the same time? Newfag seeking for guidance.
Secondly, does anyone have comparison pictures of before and after silver is painted behind clear pieces?
The other thread I was called a retard for using Gundam Markers for panel lining, and that I should use the ultra fine sharpies with nail polish for removal. I'm curious though, what is the best form of panel lining? I can't do Tamiya Panel Accents because that requires importing from Japan. I'll eventually do that, but what do I do in the meantime? Assuming Panel Line Accents is method number 1, what's method number 2 or 3?
>>6079224
Whats wrong with gundam marker panel lining pens? Is it just elitism? They've worked fine for me for years and years.
If you use gloss coats panel washing is probably the 'best' method.
Plamodudes, are there any Gundam or other robot kits that have similar design elements to the robots seen in the Brave series? Like similar leg designs, shoulder pads, etc.

>>6079324

>>6079227
I don't know about the head, but the cannons and the wing parts can possibly be used from the lighting back weapon, the legs and feet are basically the zetas...I know I've seen something that matches the hands too, possibly a dom variant?
>>6079324
Just get the kit.
When my little brother got into GunPla, he always liked the Strike suits, but never wanted to get them because they were tainted by SEED and SEED: DESTINY. He ended up picking up a Freedom and he enjoyed the build, which is what actually matters.
Why do people recommend cutting parts from the runners with a bit of the gate still attached?
It sounds odd to me because I only use nippers and a hobby knife, but I've heard that it causes more stress and can affect the underlying plastic?
>>6079507
Yes, cutting closer can stress the plastic. Cutting a bit away lets you get a much cleaner, second cut with your nippers.
>>6079507
That's it. Unless you have a godhand or something similar you're more likely to be tearing the plastic
Full city repaint anon here, after doing some paint testing on some spoons this morning, i think im gonna redo all the oranges with a light grey primer as the first coat since i did most of the body in 50/50 brown-yellow. The bright orange probably will look iffy once i get to panel washing it. Im also going to use some spare barbatos parts to modify the shoulders so that the sholder section has its own frame and the pauldron will just clip onto it like the other hg ibo gundams.
>>6079263
>Don't advise on painting anything on runners even if it's undergated it's still questionable.
Well it was detail hand-painting, not outright re-coloring, so I was using the nice secure runner to keep things steady.
Even then, it ended up rather splochy, so some rub off will probably help more than hurt.
>>6079206
MicroSol and Mark Softer di the same thing. You need MicroSet or Mark Setter.
Mr XX works with MicroXX without issues. I use MicroSet with Mark Softer and have not experienced anything bad so far.

I was asked to choose between the Sazabi and Shinanju. That's pretty damn hard since Unicorn was trash, but the non-Unicorn/Gaplant Custom designs were great. Apparently the bro who asked is sending me gunpla in the next two days. Pray for my not being a gunpla shitter, brothers.
Okay bought both the Koto Minigun and the gunpla Large Minigun which two Mechs should use em?
>>6080239
If they're MGs hopefully its the Sazabi ver ka and Sinanju OVA. Either is fine, Sazabi just has newer engineering but the Sinanju has aged very well.
Sinanju ver Ka has this issue with the plastic where lacquer/enamel will tear its ass up and make it brittle. And if you're unlucky the waist peg will be very tight and prone to breaking. The OVA version sorta fixed this with the newer plastic they used on it.
No clue on the original Sazabi MG. HG wise it's whichever you want.
>>6080243
No idea about either. I've only done HGs, a few SDs and a RG before.

I don't have any kinds of paints or any special tools, so is there something that I should look to buy next?

Is it best to paint before any kind of assembly, or make the inner frame and just do the armour?
>>6080949
Wait for your US buddies to reply
>>6080991
It really depends on the build. Seam weld what you can, then work around those you can't. For example you could paint and mask a joint, before seam welding the armor on top and painting that, then removing the mask. Or you could weld everything, and carefully mask off the armor and paint the joint, or you could modify the kit such that you can assemble the joint and armor separately.

How good is the construction of this hot piece of shit? Wanna getting a MG outside of the UC timeline.
Why are HGUCs a lot more expensive than IBO kits and vice versa? It can't just be the inner frames right? I mean the Zeon kits share parts too.
>>6081190
Bigger kits on average and higher part/runner counts = more plastic = higher costs.
>>6081190
HGUC kits tend to have more parts even without inner frame, while IBO kits reply on inner rame and panel lining opportunities as selling points.
>>6081190
Seems like bandai is spreading the cost of the inner frames among the multiple iterations of them, so their prices are lower overall

Here's where the kit is right now, hope to be finished by January
I still have the GM Type-C as well but this deadline came up first and I've been really busy with school
>>6081363
>>6081367
Holy shit he looks funky
>>6081381
origin is much thiccer than most modern versions
>>6081363
Oh, you're the same dude?
You do good work. Any previous completed kits to show off?
>>6081398
Thanks, nothing really at this level, I build mostly HGs because they don't take the same level of time commitment. My favorite part is building and making changes to the kit, which is easier on HGs as well. I recently made this Hugo but haven't finished painting him yet.
>>6081404
This is the last kit I've painted, but he hasn't been top coated yet.
I just finished my first gunpla. was a fun 7 or so hours building him.
It's smaller than I expected but still cool.
I do wish he had more heft, it's a very light figure, I can easily knock it over by blowing air at it.
Do you guys do anything to make your gunpla heavier? like putting bits of clay in the empty spaces inside them or something?
>>6081057
Zakus, Jims, Hi-Mock from GBF is very cheap, the Grimoire from G Reco isn't quite as cheap but is a really awesome looking grunt.
>>6080949
Starter brush: Badger 105 Patriot costs like $70 and is able to spray all sorts of paints and have the needle set changed out for a smaller one that does detail. I own one and it's working great so far. Of something fucks up you can call the manufacturer and get it sorted out.

Compressor: A "Master" brand compressor with tank will be fine, even comes with a moisture trap. $100.

As for paints, Tamiya Acrylics are what I've used with this setup so far. Thin them with their brand of thinner at a 2:1 paint to thinner ratio and you're good to go. Other brands that work from what I hear in this thread are Vallejo and Model Master Enamels. Of course, learn what you prefer. Don't try and spray art store paints, it won't work right.
im quite sure the wings alone weights as much as the body if not heavier.
>>6081448
Be sure to but markers to panel line it with (the little detail lines throughout the model) and some top coat to spray and take away your scratch marks from sanding nubs. READ THE GUIDE if you haven't. The putty thing is possible but you could also put it on a stand so keep that in mind if you want it to be consistently in midair.
>>6081161
Pretty good, vast improvement from the original
>>6081489
i need to improve my manual focus skillz.
>>6081448
Keep in mind the Crossbone and Victory kits are smaller than the average HG because in-universe the suits are smaller.
>>6081519
Nice posing, Cory.
meanwhile, this cruiser is waiting for her hull to be worked on.
>>6081519
>>6081530
Thank you anon
>>6081528
F91 as well.
>>6081489
Zero Customs wings are heavy as shit. Trying to pose without a stand is impossible
>>6081618
that Rx-78-2 pose is atrocious.
wing isn't a whole lot better
>>6081621
That tax is from 16 years ago and glued that way ( I was young and stupid back then). He's being replaced soon by the origin version and will be used for airbrush testing from then on
>>6081637
That Rx-78 rather, damned autocorrect
>>6081618
You should pose the Wing Zustom like the sailor scout is.
dem polished white reflection glossy wings
>>6081727
>whenyouseeit3.jpg
See what?
>>6081727
You sure post this a lot
Green Strawberry have started selling masking and photo-etched sets for the Bandai Star Wars kits, but they're hella expensive
http://www.greenstrawberry.cz/
>>6081748
no more pictures, i swear. Its time to move onto my next kit
>>6081759
That's not too bad honestly
>>6081718
How about something like this?
How do you decide on how to paint your kits?
Do you try and keep the original look, go for something random/use it for guinea pigging or do you have something in mind before you even purchase the kit?
>>6081812
I approve. You are cool in my book, buddy.
>>6081912
Of I'm kit bashing, I'll try to go special snowflake tier, otherwise I try to keep to original
Is there an expected date for the 1/100 Vidar?
>>6080929
That's megacute, really digging those Metal Slug kits
I never order from China, but are these kits decent? There are dozens of listings of the same one with varying prices
>>6080867
There is the Hard Graph HG Ground War Zaku set, which comes with two Type 61s...
>>6081812
>How about something like this?
You need to go ALL OUT Son...
BROS I JUST GOT THIS IN THE MAIL
ANY TIPS ON WHAT RATIO OF ACRYLIC TO WATER I SHOULD USE?
OR IS IT GOOD FOR AIRBRUSHING STRAIGHT OUTTA THE BOTTLE?
>>6082059
Wellll, I have a PG unicorn doing the leg up, twin peace sign ahego pose, but I don't have a pic of it on my phone and I'm not home
Anyone use tamiya flat base with Mr. Color GX Super Clear? Looking for a mixing ratio
>>6082083
If only the company that manufactured the product had some kind of information available online! Oh well too bad I guess.

>>6082182
>using google instead of thinning it to your likeness
fucking lazy
>>6082083
thin it 70 to 520, it says so right on the bottle
>>6081363
Pointless whiny bitching, but I still think the head is too unbroken compared to the rest of the machine.
>>6081812
I always wanted the PG strike freedom, but did they ever fix the issue people were having with the backpack? I guess a part would break or something.
>>6082352
yeah I really added shit where it's tough to see, I may add something to the sides which would really make it busier if I think of something that would work well enough
>>6082399
Works fine for me
>>6082102
As promised btw
>>6082463
Raiser came to enjoy the show
>>6082426
really like what youve done man. if you still have a type-c maybe do the wagtail conversion later? also, what do you use for panel line scribing? I got an olfa panel razor & hated it, now im using a wave scriber, not entirely happy as I keep having to clean up the lines with a file edge. Your lines seem really clean. what are you using?
So when are we getting MG IBO kits?
>>6082494
Scribing panel lines require cleanup work most of the time
Just use bmc
>>6082463
Makes sense that worst girl unicorn would be a filthy slut.
>>6082495
The 1/100 is going to be the closest thing for probably 2-3 years.
Not gonna finish by Xmas. I could not decal it, but fuck dismantling for decaling later.
It can't do the axe kick without an action base like what the preview images made me believe
SKREEEEEEEEEEE.
I finally have all threeeeeeeeeee
Now I just need to rationalise paying 15000jpy + shipping for the Dendrobium + Neue Ziel set.
>tfw overfile like an idiot and end up with a noticeable chunk taken out
>>6082604
time to learn how to plaplate
>>6082495
arent the full mechanics kits MG's? I dont see any difference apart from the name.
>>6082672
They're not the same detail and quality as MGs (except maybe some early MGs).
They're still cool though and there are a lot of suits I wish had kits at least that good.
>>6082695
No, it's just giving them a proper name.
1/100 RE Kshatriya when?
>>6082059
Oh, you rat fink son of a bitch. Now I'm going to have to buy a bunch of Nobels.
>>6082762
>Oh, you rat fink son of a bitch. Now I'm going to have to buy a bunch of Nobels.
As long as you can pull it off Anon, I don't care!
Christmas came a few days early, it seems!
>>6082895
how much did the system weapon accessory pack cost you and is it worth it?
>>6082903
No idea, was a gift from a bro. Looks pretty neat, decent weapons and a stand.
>>6082903
You could just look online.
The displayed weapons are prebuilt and decaled so there's some cleaning up to do
>>6082748
Never sadly
>>6082911
diff sets seem to be priced from $15-50 which is I'm guessing after-market prices. Now... that's cool but at the same time I find paying 15 bucks for that is even still very steep.
>>6082895
>rg zaku
I'm so sorry anon.
>>6082784
I think i could pull off a sailor moon outfit, does that count?
>>6083259
In person or in gunpla?
>>6083275
My gunpla customising skills are still in development
>Two Long rifles for Rebak/Full City
>Ground graze feet and backpack
>Landman rodi legs
>Geirail SCHARFRICHTER Head and skirt (Shoulder claw things included in option set 8 instead)
Option set 9 is looking to be the best option set.
>>6083311
My hopes up, for nothing!
>>6083355
>putty
>on a piece being cleaned
Good luck gluing or welding that later, autist-kun.
>>6083156
What's wrong with the RG Zaku?
>>6083318
I'm sorry did you say landman rodi legs! Time to buy a third rodi!
>>6083549
Expect to have to paint. The kit will probably be all grey with maybe a single runner of white.
>>6083355
>Time to step up the vocabulary.
pretty commonly used term for plastic plate in japan. Hell, your in a thread called gunpla/plamo general. Why arent you butthurt about those terms too turbo autist.
>>6083570
>Expect to have to paint. The kit will probably be all grey with maybe a single runner of white.
Honestly doubt it will even have a Runner in a different color...
>>6083570
Still can't believe the Rouei's getting a kit. I'm excited even though It's probably going to sell like garbage.
>>6083570
It's hard to tell from the picture, there's no way the landrodi legs wouldn't have ankle articulation right?
I've actually been messing around with a really simple rodi kitbash. A rodi body with gusion arms, and modified kimaria (first version) legs. I'll take some photos later. I need to clean it up and paint it but i like it a lot.
>>6083576
Hey we might get lucky. Stranger things have happened, and that show was great.
>>6083575
This. It's a recognized if possibly colloquial name for the plastic plating used in model building. Unless i guess that poster was saying they hadn't encountered the term and needed to update their own vocabulary?
This was fun. Trim was hell.
>>6083679
Looks great, but did you paint the axe, or is that just how it came with the kit?
>>6083711
Painted. Didn't look heat hawk-y stock.
Bloody hell these things are huge.
Gonna replace the ball/socket joint they're attached to the rear skirt with something more robust, their weight just makes them sag on a ball. Kotobukiya flexible arm maybe...
>>6083735
Has anyone had any experiences with the Armoured Core kits?
I'm looking at picking up the 1/72 Rosenthal CR-Hogire Noblesse Oblige, and I'm wondering what I'm getting mye
>>6083570
Bleh, you'll have to convert a graze ritter to a ground graze
>>6083735
I can tell you a thing or two about saggy balls.
>land rhodi legs
Woo! I can put off further honing my sculpting/puttying skills for that much longer!
What do you all do to remove accidental cement fingerprints? As in when you are seam welding a model with plastic cement and accidentally touch the cement while handling so it imprints your fingerprint onto the model. Is it just sanding and putty (Tamiya white is what I have in this case)?
>primer colors
>looks amazing
>painted prototype
>looks like absolute ass
>>6083791
>I can't paint the colors I want myself so I just won't buy the model
>>6083796
>making an ass of u and me
You need to bait harder
>>6083784
just sand it off. Theres no reason at all to use putty since your not filling anything.
in future, have lighter fluid handy when gluing, dip a q-tip in lighter fluid and it cleans off excess glue really well without damaging the plastic. Only works when the glue is still wet.
>>6083791
The default colours for the one with the two big shoulder cannons is also ass.
MG Aile Strike ver. RM or 00 Raiser?
Trying a serious car kit for the first time, am I doing it right? (Figured you guys would appreciate this more than the scale model thread)
>>6083872
I've had neither, but damn they are tough choices.
You probably know that you'll get both of them sooner or later.
Does anyone else find their Astaroth weak in the angkles and/or leg-hip joints?
>>6083880
I like how you do things Anon.
>>6083812
Ok, thank you.
>trying to trim the W-fin on the RG Wing Gundam
>>6083739
The Agni was fun. Plastic was a few smidgens less forgiving than Bandai's. Needed a BIT more glue due to a not-as-exact overall parts-fit.
>>6083916
Theres nothing to trim off, what are you doing?
>>6083872
Aile Strike. The joints on 00 are wonky as shit
>mfw there's no HGUC Galbaldy
Im not even a big fan of the suit but it seems like it would be an obvious choice
Ffs, we got GM 2
