>The coming sign of the end times the return of the Basic, Deluxe, Mega, and Ultra class for the third part of Prime Wars.

I wouldn't mind that; the "Legends" and "Voyager" sizepoints are silly, and a lame relic from Energon. The Beast Wars-RiD size classes are kinda vague(Best, bester, and bestest), but voyager's always been a stupid term, even in cybertron.

And I'd be all for full beast wars, but that ain't happening under John warden.

>>
>>6077932
It's completely senseless that this mode is so bad when the other one just has to lay flat.
>>
>>6078612
Considering 99% of people just want Devastator and he has great articulation, yeah it's pretty ridiculous.

If this was someone whose robot move was most important, like most characters, that's one thing. But come on, with combiners the only thing that matters is if the combined more looks good in the end. I'd rather have robot mode sacrifices made if it means a better combiner mode, as opposed to trying to make everything look good, and ending up with something shitty like FOC Bruticus that doesn't have any good modes.
>>
>>6078819
There can be exceptions. PCC didn't have a single half-decent combiner, but some of the torso-minicon 2packs are pretty good on their own.
>>
>>6078819
>I'd rather have robot mode sacrifices made if it means a better combiner mode
Because we all know UW Devastator is such a mess that can't stand for shit because of those 4 extra bits of plastic on Scrapper.
Oh wait that isn't an issue at all and you sound like you're clutching at straws to cover up your buyers remorse.
>>
You know who needs a new toy? That said Takara will probably make one from the Paralon mold.
>>
>>6078819
Not him but there are some teams where the members are just as popular as the combiner. There wouldn't be the contrast between the Technobots and Computron if they weren't a band of badasses featuring robot Wojack that combine into an autistic robot manchild; each of the combaticons are memorable if simple characters; Hot Spot, Silverbot, Blades, Fireflight are also memorable characters themselves if only for having dumb gimmicky personalities. I want the Combaticons to look cool and have good toys as much as I want them to combine into a good Bruticus because I'm a fan of them.

Not Devastator, though. Nobody cares about each of the constructicons individually.

>>6078847
I'm so fucking tired of RID's exclusives. Stop that shit. Fuck.
I want Paralon but I can't get one outside of Murrika without being price-gouged for it.
>>
>>6078858
I'd rather have Generations BW Scorponok, but if Takara made Blackarachnia out of Animated Blackarachnia then they'll probably make Scorponok out of Paralon.
>>
>>6078842
Forgive me for not caring enough to spend $75 more when it initially came out, for 4 little extra bits of plastic on a character I don't give a damn about as long as he looks good as a leg. The current $20 difference still isn't enough for me to care.

>>6078858
>Combaticons
Yeah, I guess you're right, they slipped my mind. Which is bad, they're my favorite combiner team too. I was really happy with their releases, I thought they looked great in all modes.

As for others, yeah Devastator I don't think anyone cares about the individuals. I truthfully can't tell you what the predacons aside from Razorclaw look like in robot mode. I liked Superion because I just feel like "Hey as long as Silverbolt looks good and they all turn into jets and a decent Superion." And my only grip with Menasor was not the shitty robot mode of Breakdown, but I didn't like how Menasor's torso was wonky.

Bruticus I think is the combiner I'm most happy with. The only thing I didn't like was Take-Off not getting a new head for himself, but oh well, whatever. Still really happy aside from that.

>>
>>6078937
>Strange. I've had the Takara version of this guy for the longest time with no problems.
>Takara version
Well there you go, that's the reason why. Takara's version used a different plastic (I think a black one instead of brown?) that wasn't as fragile as whatever one the Hasbro version is.

I'd love to get a Takara version, but I rarely find them available, and if I do, it's too expensive for what I'm willing to spend.

Brownplasticsyndrome.jpg
79KB, 500x451px
>>6078946
No, the plastic that's in his waste, since that's the most common breaking point you'll find. If you were to compare the two side by side, you'd notice that the main body of the Takara one is slightly darker, more black than the Hasbro one. The closer to brown plastic on the Hasbro one is weaker, especially at what holds the waist together, and this happens with little stress.
>>
>>6078946
The two hinges that connect the waist and the Dino tail. Those are castes in their own plastic. Hasbro used a brown/gold plastic, Takara was black plastic.
>>
>>6078922
The predacon limbs are basically all just guys using their beast head as a helmet. And they're all red/orange/yellow

I wouldn't worry too much about scratched samples. From what I can glean off them retools tend to be hand-painted for the explicit purpose of getting across the visual feel.
The sample of Blast Off for CW Bruticus floating around for convention displays had some red visible implying that it was a firefly figure with the slingshot head explicitly placed on it after it was made.

Blast Off was the breaking point on the retool hell of combiner wars, especially since Bruticus was the most anticipated team. For me though, Computron was a bigger waste.

>Scattershot was the Betatron version, Superion torso and all
>Strafe had no weapons, not even a recolor of Airraid/Skydive's, on top of not looking like the toy or toon outside the head
>Nosecone had no new head and barely any attempt to look like him in color or alt-mode
>Lightsteed was a red Streetwise

Only Afterburner, Scrounge, and the hands and feet were any good, but that's not anywhere near worth 100 mcdollars. It really didn't help that the UW set was out around the same time for $30 more and is arguably the best of Takara's releases.

>>
>>6079220
He's an almost perfect recreation of G1 Sixshot with articulation. The problem is his articulation isn't that great since his ankles are poorly designed, no wrists, no waist, and limited shoulders. He's also got an ugly wolf neck that needs a titan master to fill in a giant gap and shitty pre-applied stickers which is something Takara probably can't fix.

I say wait for a Takara or for Hasbro's to go on sale. $35 seems like the upper limit for me.

Computron's hands and feet were pretty meh, especially considering the amount of money people are paying for them.

I love how you can store the hands in the feet and then stack them for a super-compact storage, but that's about the only thing it has going for it. The completely hollow bottom means your options for display surfaces are really limited. Most surfaces will not have enough traction for the feet to be stable in poses.

That will never happen unless Hasbro finds some way to cheapen the materials and release them with next to no paint. There are also many third part options that are worth every penny to tide people over until an official release that are just as good as anything that Takara puts out.

The Predacons each only use about 3 colors of plastic, and theres only 4 colors of plastic total for the entire group: yellow, orange, black, and red.

As long as they molded the parts in the right colors and sprung for some gold PAINT for the wings, they'd need almost no paint.

I like it more when the members of a combiner team have their own thing going on and the combiner ends up looking mismatched because of it. That's possibly the reason why I don't care about Devastator or Predaking that much.

UW Computron is still the better toy, though.

>I got Computron for about 80 burger bucks since I really wanted scrounge and I got all the other box sets at $30. Computicon I paid full price for because I want every version of the rook mold, and I'm glad I did since he's only gotten more expensive as time goes on.

I got a Hasbro Computron for 65, Takara for 135, boht had shipping included. Don't regret it.

Strafe is the start of the deviations. Hasbro has said they went for toy accuracy, and he is in alt-mode, but man that robot mode is really a stretch. The long unfolding leg wings don't help. He doesn't even have a weapon of his own in contrast to Takara's who can't even hold all of his. Sadly, the cartoon orange is too bright to match Hasbros, so it still doesn't look quite right giving him the little gun.

That said, I happen to have some spare construct bot weapons, so I let him have a wrist blade. It goes great with that excellent head sculpt. Still, toon Strafe is just so much better with his rich white color, cleaner bot design, and his tremendous feet. I just love how they look like clawed turbines that will burn and cut anything he kicks.

Best of all, Takara's strafe has so many options for weapons. The shin fins can be totally ignored in all modes, but you can remove them and give Strafe dual tonfa blades. He can even all hulk hands, but they don't look as great as on Rook. Probably because his slimmer arms make them look like ham hands. Shame about his hollow legs though.

while both Strafes have butt plugs for stands in robot mode, neither have any for jet mode. It's a shame since they both have really nice altmodes and I'd love to have them flying around with the crew, especially Takaras. That smoothness curvature just hits all the fetishes. Thankfully, there's always a friend to help out.

Once again, score one for Takara.

Now for the controversy to start. Lightsteed is possibly the most infuriating part of the CW set since he's a steaight repaint of Streetwise. While the mold choice isn't bad, this coloring is just awful. It looks like unpainted plastic with details that aren't picked out. It's supposed to look like the original toy, but with no new tooling and the fucking painted light bar, it just falls totally flat.

Say what you will about Lightspeed's sports car mode, it sure looks nice despite being more homage than accurate. Also, I'm technically not using the proper HFGs with Takara's team, but screw it, I love the engine block look in alt mode.

While the car mode was bad, Robot mode just drops it. It just screams lazy and no effort. It's not accurate to anything and that head is just too Streetwise to ignore. It works for a universe style wave filler, but when the rest of the line had new tooling for fucking Sky Reign's limbs, this shit doesn't fly with me.

I may be a minority here, but I love the Breakdown mold. Not the original one, but the Wheeljack retool is just great. Lightspeed is no exception, and I just adore his maroon and silver. His head is weird when seen from any other angle than the front and his reds can bleed together if you have shotty lights, like me, but that's not enough to ruin him for me. Couple that with dual rifles and he's managed to become one of my top favorites from this set. Not THE top though.

UW Nosecone is fucking amazing though. Huge solid drill, accurate silhouette, and a ton of extra weapons.

This just isn't fair. This is like Usain Bolt competing in the special Olympics. CW used the worst limb mold with no new head and a teeny, hollow drill, and bland colors. This is honestly worse than Lightsteed to me.

UW used the best mold with a splendid new head, new weapons that are compatible with standard figure hands, and some lovely colors. The new tread tooling also means he has plenty of storage for guns. I like the look of hos treads being a kind of vest, but I do wish they could rotate up to clean slim up the torso.

UW Nosecone gets all the bitches. That big ass drill really gets the lubricant flowing if you know what I mean. It's not that great though since the handle is in an awkward place and doesn't stay in his hand well. It's terrible too since there's a hile that looks like a peg could fit in for a centered grip, but it's JUST too small for lego or shapeways pieces. I don't mind though. It looks way better than CWs in every way, especially since it has an even more awkward peg placement. UW Nosecone is the highlight of the set for me.

>>6080276
I remember when everyone thought Brawl would be a retool of Rook when he was first announced. I wish he was. Brawl needs to have a big beefy body since he's the mindless fighter of the combaticons. CW's is just weedy and lanky with a terrible upper body.

Here they are, standing at attention since their feet can't support them doing anything else. CW looks like he's wearing underwear and has that pre-sunned white I don't like on my Technobots. Plus that pink gun is just obnoxious.

UW has some new tooling in his chest, but it doesn't really change him too much. It's no Cyclonus, but it is appreciated. The guns make up for it though. They're beefy and look great when held akimbo. Sadly both molds suffer from massive collar syndrome which prevents the heads from turning more than 30 degrees in either direction. The face also looks flat, and both pf them have it, so both really fall low on the totem for me.

Takara still wins because of the guns and white, but it really comes ahead with the rest of his new tooling.

Here's the alternate limb config. Neither arm holds together very well, but Afterbreaker and Strafe make decent legs if you don't mind the huge amounts of extra kibble sticking up. Also you can still use Scrounge on Nosecone, but the differing yellows are really obvious in a bad way.

Here's Takara's take. It's got so much red and white, whith Afterburner's blue completing the patriotic combo. Strafe's arm looks like a better match to Afterburner's wheel thickened shape, plus the wings can fold in entirely for maximum articulation. Sadly, Strafe has two nubs that holds his waist in the straight forward position in robot mode, and they only make twisting his arm needlessly difficult. No other limb has them besides the Blastoff molds, and I can't think of any reason why they would add them.

Of course, the real highlight is the new torso tooling. The head is magnificent and features hard plastic antennae. His chest also features soft white tampos that represent his cartoon chest lights. They're such a unique way to distinguish Computron and really help emphasize his new squarer chest.
>>
>>6080554
Yeah, that nub on the Blast-Off/Strafe mold requires trimming or cutting. Makes moving him much easier. Sure it leaves a white dot for Strafe, but it's worth it.

Another feature I really like from UW is the modular weapon for Computicon. You can hook up every weapon to each other in some way. The holes are nice and tight, so you can stick two pegs in each. This means you can prettycrazy with your weapon configurations.

Quantron, eat your heart out.

Can't believe we've gone this far with out a 'pierce the heavens!' Once again, the drill's awkward peg position makes it hard to use on any limb other than Nosecone. The Nosecone connection is also very loose, so it takes some major patience to get an action shot out of it.

In case you weren't sure, UW Computron is the clear winner inspite of his faults. The modularity of the accessories, choice of molds, color choices, and new tooling put him leagues above Hasbro's offering. If he had a scrounge on the team, there would be no reason to look at the CW.

I may even be tempted to say he's my favorite combiner team of the entire line. The only other set that competes is Grand Galvatron. Maybe I'll do a dump of him another time. He is quite worth it.

It doesn't. He's going to shelfwarm like Blurr because his color scheme is just as boring.

They photoshopped him to look bad?

Why?
>>6080693
Don't kid yourself, he looks decent out of the package.

Much better than that awful Generations one.

Also stop with this Blurr meme, everyone's gotten sick of it already.

>Much better than that awful Generations one.

Who're you trying to fool, yourself?
>>
>>6080704
Afraid not, Aaron. The only one fooling themselves here is you.
>>
>>6080715
Afraid not, I'll stick with my Kup that actually looks like him, is coloured like him, is more posable, and isn't forcibly a headmaster, seems like the better of the two imo.
>>
>>6080722
>actually looks like him
TR Kup is more accurate if anything
>is colored like him
Er, what? Both of them are accurately colored. What the fuck is this argument even meant to be?
>is more posable
Generations 1.0 posability was shit save the WFC figures. TR's been much much better.
>isn't forcibly a headmaster
Not an argument.

A bit early to comment on colors, but I really hope the black bits are actually gray to match the original toy.

>>6080632
The combining gun is stupid (hell, most TM seats are stupid since they keep shoehorning them), but if you're going to do that, at least integrate the combined gun in some fashion to the vehicle mode, otherwise it's completely pointless.
>>
>>6080736
It looks like kup, Lad
>>
>>6080742
Who gives a fuck? The seeker mold is shit, call me when they make a new version.
>>
>>6080751
The back of the pick up looks terrible. I'm not saying it doesn't look like him, but they could have done a better job to flatten that section.

The peg holes sticking out like a sore thumb, and the hand just being in full view is disappointing.

QC issues already? On a review piece to Ben Yee?

This looks terrible. Generations 2011 Kup isn't going anywhere.

Looks like it would make for a decent Crosshairs though.
>>
>>6080632
It looks pretty good.
I hope this gets a Crosshairs version and makes the old Kup cheaper.

TR just can't escape the QC problems can it? Is this our future from now on, good molds hampered by random, slipshod QC?

I'm pretty sure that's they're plan. They're going to shit out all these conehead retools finally, because people have been wanting them, then they'll make an entirely new Seeker mold and start all over again, because they know seeker-fags will buy it again regardless.
