For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

I'm about to start my first model kit. (MG RX78 3.0). Are my supplies enough, or am I missing anything? I'm planning to use glue to erase seam lines and glue non-moving parts. Should I only use glue after completely assembling/panel lining the figure? Also, is my glue appropriate?
>>
>>6072140
It looks like you should have all the tools you need. I couldnt think of anything you could pick up, also ive never done seam line removal but the the last few videos i watched the people in the videos did use that Tamiya Cement
>>
>>6072140
You should get a cheap kit to try the seam removal first.
Also, part of the appeal of MGs is the inner frame, if you glue it you can't have access to it later

if you are not planning to gloss coat your entire kit before lining it, enamel wash and especially enamel thinner is a very bad idea

because your kit might literally crumble into pieces
>>
>>6072178
So the thinner would weaken/dissolve the plastic? Should I still go ahead with it? Or should I buy a bottle of top-coat? My local hobby store is an hour away though, which sucks.

Also, I'm slightly confused about the order in which I should do things. Right now, to my understanding, it's:
1. Build model
2. apply decals/stickers ?
3. Top-coat
4. Enamel panel lining

If I wanted to paint anything, which step would it be?
>>
>>6072140
singapoor? You forgot sandpaper, sanding files arent enough. Don't use cement, especially on your first mg kit, you're gonna slop it all over the place and fuck everything up
Go read the gunpla guide and some other basic tutorials first before you dive in.

>>6072172
Panel lines are basically weak spots in the plastic, pool too much thinner in the valleys and its gonna get fucked

You sound like you are already giving up. Do your best! Put your heart, soul and time into this kit - do it for your friends, your family, even do it for us. Take pride in your work, strive to be the best while being humble about it. It's harder to go against doubt than it is to go against a second place winner.

Well, to play Devils Advocate, Leia had plans for a weapon of mass destruction, and was trying to escape the Empire on a military ship. The destruction of Alderann was more of a police action/martial law thing I felt. It's not exactly the Empires fault that Vader took it so personal and had a murderboner while doing it.

>That's like saying America or any other nation/country that had a violent change of power is evil because of how it was formed.

Yes, America was formed by having the British troops kill their officers via an implanted command by General Washington, have them join the American army, then Washington proceeded to rule the 13 colonies like a dictator while he and Alexander Hamilton made a massive ship of the line to destroy entire countries in one salvo.

Shit that sounds like a good plot.

Paint terminology is quite confusing, read this article first if you haven't
http://www.scalemodelguide.com/painting-weathering/painting-guide/paint-types/

Most diy-store paint thinners are turpentine/mineral spirits, so they will be strong enough to clean acrylics and enamels but not modelling lacquers (cellulose paint)

That's a reissue kit. F2 zaku is one of the more solid variants. It's shorter, fatter, but looks more mean. IT has more accessories, like grenades, mmp80 and M4 style zaku machiengun. It's much better than the original HGUC, and its frame was reused for the Hi Mobility HGUCs and the Zaku Amazing.

S'pose I ought to post what progress I've made on my own MG Leo conversion. I've re-jiggered the connectors for the back vernier pods. Were ball joints, now they're rod-and-clip set-ups. Should be more stable and it allows me to bring the pods in closer to the back of the kit.

Hopefully I'll get it all cleaned up and get some non-potato pictures of it tomorrow.

An astray is the gunpla equivalent of coal.
>>
haven't been into Gunpla for awhile but built a few HGs recently.. Kampfer, Jesta, Jesta Cannon and Graze, also RG Sinanju

however out of curiousity bought a RE 1/100 Bawoo, haven't opened it yet, but I assume this line is just a giant HG like those Seed/Wing/00 Kits in 1/100?
>>
>>6075891
not really

Anybody own one of these? They're cheap as fuck on amazon and I'm thinking of using them for my HGs
>>
>>6075881
But what if I wanted a coal?
>>
>>6075953
I bought a ton of these from Aliexpress for $1.6 each during the 11/11 sale. They're the perfect size for Frame Arms Girls which are a bit bigger than HG Gendums so they are good for HG. comes with a TON of stuff to help pose your shit too.
>>
>>6075282
Ah good, thank ya kindly.
>>
>>6075380
I'm torn on getting this, it uses most excellent Zaku 2.0 frame but the proportions are way off.
>>
>>6075891
It's kind of a step between HG and MG. More MG than the 1/100 kits they've done for the IBO line
>>
>>6074147
Just need a servo for the new helm I'm upgrading.
>>
Is there a place where I can buy the 1/100 poseable hands that come with the NU Ver Ka?
Broke the middle finger on the right hand and I need a new set
>>
>a whole runner with the same part
this is what I call bullshit.
I'm not sure I can do this.
>>
>>6075584
it's useful for stuff like wet wipes and clorox, but the ones that only order one specific flavor of soda or food is fucking dumb.
>>
>>6075326
AGE has great sit design, the only problem is the shit story.
>>
I've never bought a RD before, how do they compare to a well-built gunpla? Asking this thread because I myself have only built kits and have never bought RDs, but am caving in for the Ingram since it's difficult for me to find a kit of it that's around the size of my HG kits.
>>
>>6076455
Dragon Momoko makes 3rd party ones.
>>
>>6076455
There are a few different places that sell MG compatible hands, nothing for specific kits though
>>
>>6076491
They are more durable and sometimes more articulated because they have access to materials that are not plamo friendly like
>POM plastic
>Spring pins
>Soft PVC plastic

However, the quality of paint apps, build, etc. are in the hands of Chinese workers...
>>
>>6076513
>>6076514
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10188585
do you think these hands would be able to hold the Nu's weapons? I'd rather just get molded hands than have to mess around with these flimsy things.
>>
>>6076519
The tolerances can be really hit or miss. At least half my RDs have floppy parts out of the box and needed varnish or tape to tighten up.

Not sure why POM isn't plamo friendly, it cuts just fine. I think Bandai's hobby department is just being cheap. That said I'm pretty sure most RDs are just ABS and PVC
>>
>>6076523
POM is not paint-friendly, even more so than ABS. Some even classify it as unpaintable plastic and that's a no-no for model kits, especially when you're advertising kid-friendly low toxicity paints.

They used to advertise POM parts as a feature back in 2009 when the RD line just launched but it seems like that phased them out slowly...
>>
>>6076528
Gunpla isn't designed for painting around joints anyway, so Bandai doesn't care either way.
>>
Does anyone use Mr. Super Clear III with tamiya flat base? Trying to get a good ratio so I can mix it consistently.
>>
>>6076478
Ghirarga is love.
>>
>>6076523
Because it isn't paint friendly, which is a huge thing in gunpla.
They started swapping to the new plastic that doesn't get its ass torn up by Enamel/Lacquer paint. One of the first models with it was the MG Sinanju OVA ver I believe.
>>
>>6075361
Yeah but that astaroth type wont appear in the anime

Started my Kshat. It's clear right away I'm gonna have to do some physical painting as the Zeon logo is the same color at the rest of the piece.

Debating on staying with white theme that Kshat usually has or going gold or silver trim. Suggestions?

Anyone use the gesso primer from the OP guide? whats a replacement for future, and what the fuck is airbrush medium?
>>
>want to get a purple Qubeley MK II
>sold out everywhere or is stupidly expensive on some sites
I guess I'm just gonna get the regular one
>>
>>6076869
>Replacement for Future
Any acryllic Gloss top coat. It's just the stuff is cheap for the amount you get.
>Airbrush Medium
In simple terms: thinner to thin paint for airbrushing. Depending on the brand it may have some additives that make it different from just regular thinner.
>Gesso primer
Just use spray can primers if you really must. Problem is there's not that many good hand paint primers if you don't have somewhere ventilated to use spraycans/airbrushes.
Only one I can think of is Vallejo surface primer and that requires thinning depending.

>>6076898

>>

Hey, Leo anon. Do you actually detail the putty at all, or just use it as round shaped gap filling and only detail on styrene sheets? Need to do some custom part making for a torso that I believe will involve both. Any general knowledge you have to share on it? I'm a novice in the use of it.
>>
>>6077089
I detail it, yeah. If it's hard-edged stuff, I usually sculpt it as close the the final shape as I can and then sand it to a clean edge with emery boards and hobby files. It drills and carves nicely, too. As long as you have sharp tools and a steady hand.

You'll see that's what I've done on the vernier pods. The curved surface on top was done in putty and sanded into nice, sharply defined planes.

For panel lines in the putty, I like to leave the putty to cure for a couple hours and then mark into the semi-heard surface where the panel lines will go. Then, when it's fully cured, I sand them in with the edge of a hobby file with a triangular cross section. If you're really careful, you can chisel panel lines in with the back edge of the point of an old exacto blade.

I'm going to scribe in panel lines onto the ankle guards once I've got them to the shape I wan't. I'll try to get some process photos to post when I do.

Great to know, will put that to good use later. Here's what I'm working on. I was using the Gogg for something else at one point and posted here, eventually the leg connection got too screwed up to fix for me even with pinning, so I forfeited using legs to make something unique. Unique and very lore-unfriendly, but fun.

Forgot to say, awesome work on the conversion so far, I like when you give us a look at how it's going.

>>
>>6076857
Matte white is what i went with on my geara zulu and kshatriya repair. Silver would be cool but it may look a little out of place if its the only metallic color on the kit.
>>
>>6076801
The ibo weapons fit on my crossbone maoh so id say it would work just fine.
>>
>>6077237
Haven't thought of a name, that's an actual word and it implies some noise. This isn't particularly noise-related but if I'm mixing the names that's still an amalgamation that doesn't sound weird, thanks.
>>
Is there any sort-of decent place to get kits in Europe?

I usually just buy from Japan, but it would be interesting to have a shop that might be able to ship faster (and with no customs fee hassles).
>>
>>6077316
do you seriously think the customs fees (as well as shop rent and employees salary) won't be added to the price?

Ksh anon here. Finished main body assembly. Left skirt piece was too loose in its slot, so hitting it with some plastics epoxy putty to widen and seat it better.

Decided to go silver for Zeon logos, so I'll hit that with a silver paint pen tomorrow. Haven't glued down the logo pieces yet to do so with relative ease. Also need to hit its skirt vents with a quick ink wash and light acetone on the raised parts of them

Looking to buy my first model kit. Any suggestions? Also: do I need to buy additional tools/ paint or will it be included?
>>
>>6079097
Any HG kit should be fine for beginner. Go with something you like. Kit's don't come with any tools or paint.
You don't have to paint them though as the plastic is already colored, and there are some stickers too.
For tools you will need essentials such as nippers/cutters to cut the plastic, a hobby knife to scrape or cut of the nubs from the plastic, and perhaps files/sanding sticks.
