I had the DX9 Galvatron, Cyclonus, Scourge, and Ratchet. Only have Ratchet now, the rest were just too disappointing. The build quality on DX9 figures just feels cheap compared to Iron Factory. Besides Ratchet, the transformations were uninteresting to boot.

I really wanted to get Hulkie, but with only 3/4 Dx9 guys seeming to be worth it, I passed. I'll pass on their Predaking too unless they really pull something out. I can wait for IF to put out a combiner team, it's only a matter of time.
>>
>>6014705
Hmm, I wonder if the new ones are fixed some then? I have the new DX9 Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge set on preorder.
>>
>>6014619
>>6014621

Don't use the solid barrel attachment unless you like breaking his gun hand. And just be careful with his gun hand anyway, since it's long, and clear plastic. Also his shoulderpads can possibly scrape at his silver shoulder paint, but honestly you probably won't even notice it if you do.

I own one, great figure overall.

I dig this, but it's kind of weird how it's a whole new Striker as the toy, instead of it being an armor upgrade for Manus.
>>
>>6015362
To be fair, most of the toy may be solid but it is still a mess of tolerances in different spots.

Arm flaps that conceal the hands not staying closed, the swivel on the rear lion feet loosening after a few transformations, etc.

And then there's all the stuff that's two tight or miss assembled the first time around like the leg sliders or the chest landing gear.
>>
>>6015490
Yeah but what he broke was like the waist joint while it was on feet mode. You know since the waist is the tilt during shoes mode. That shit is solid on mine so I don't know how he can break that.
>>
>>6015525
He probably grabbed it by the the waist to extend the legs when he transformed it.

You know, exactly what the instructions tell you NEVER to do because that joint is not meant to be pulled on with any significant amount of force.

Code is for Chug, Cupola is for MP. Cupola is as tall as MP-10 and his aesthetics is from the Japanese anime. It really depends on which shelf you are putting him. Personally I don't like code because he is still one of those ancient 3p toys that are still lacking with a lot of stuff. You're better off buying the Takara LG Chromedome if you want a proper CHUG one at this point. Cupola I do own and he's just amazing.

WHY are there no prototypes or anything to upgrade this guy's head and arms? come on, two arms to attach at the bicep, a new cannon, and a new headmaster that actually fucking looks like galvatron?

imagine, a tiny megatron that wears galvatron's helmet well, a smaller, more sci-fi cannon, and new arms with a bit of a transformation to not only allow wrist articulation, but to also better disguise them in alt mode(s)

Or just do a set with the head, new wrists with posable hands and a better cannon.
>>
>>6016627
there's at least three people who've made galvatron heads on shapeways

you have to paint them, but it isn't nothing

I'm working on a head and neck kit that folds into the torso for a few months now, but I'm having a really, really difficult time getting the horns how I want them. I was trying to model an amalgamation of the side-horns design with the swoop-back design, like http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy115/TransformersArkColor/Decepticons/Galvatron.jpg, but it feels like I'm working with reference material drawn by MC Escher.

I started them over from scratch recently, so that's why they aren't blended into the headband yet.
>>

i recently got him last tf-con and i have to admit ,try to get him for sale prices because he very much feels like the first in a line. admittedly i still love how fun and satisfying his transformation is.

Well IIRC Fakebusker's helmet and cannon adapter is pretty well received. Just don't order it in standard Shapeways plastic- get it in FUD, FED or HDBA. It'll need painting but that can be done with a spray can of purple paint.
>>
>>6016823
the problem is, people dont know that shapeways plastic is literally made to contain paint. its not like painting a normal toy, the shapeways plastic maintains paint way better, so painting is way easier than people think. I dont even top coat my stuff

The Third Party companies don't seem interested in making upgrade kits anymore aside from Fort Max, since he's such huge fertile ground for upgrades.

Nonnef made new feet for Hardhead and PE's releasing a Ginrai upgrade for Leader Powermaster Prime, but otherwise the third party upgrade market is dead to Titans Return.

Do NOT get the arm cannon upgrade in FUD, that's made for looks and not strength. It'll snap like a twig trying to remove the cannon from it.

Instead of modeling the horns as sticking straight out of the helmet and then up, think of the horns as being part of an otherwise invisible cylinder that starts from the helmet rim, if that makes any sense at all

I already have cyclonus from tempest, which, i... Oh, and I assume they're not fully flat because of how they work with some of the transformations, if they were all flat it might've needed changing other parts to be thicker/thinner. Guess they figured the bottom of the feet was one of the places no one would care to look given he stands just fine despite his bulk.

To each their own. I love the look of Hexatron, it's got just the right CHUG vibe for me. He really looks like an updated Sixshot to me.

The new 3P one I actually don't like very much. He's sort of in that "He looks like what he should...Almost. Not quite.". Like he needed a bit more time in the oven to be a real MP.

But then again thats something I always end up saying with DX9 stuff. Like, all of their stuff looks, good, but not quite perfect.

He's fine. I really don't care for the combined mode. I would probably combine him once or twice once I get all 6 and then leave them back individually since they didn't really combine that much in the Anime so I'm more attached to them individually than combined.
>>
>>6020589

Sorry to hear man. This is why certain characters always bum me out, because people can't accept building them with shit materials makes them an inferior product.

Look at the Dinobots, almost all of them are covered in chrome, chrome fucking sucks. So does diecast, so does rubber. Hell, I specifically tracked down a regular MMC Hexatron and not the chromed out more G1-esque version because I can't stand my toy just shitting itself through even light handling.
>>
>>6020676
Chrome is really nothing to me. The toy itself is solid but as usual Keith rushed it before he could fully tweak everything because it seems that there are rumours that Takara will be releasing their own version soon and that goes for FT or something like that. If Takara does release a Victory Leo, I will still personally buy one for my shelf while the 3p will be used for the combined mode on the shelf. I have no problems double dipping on characters I actually really like.
>>
>>6020676
>>6020689

Chrome """technology""" seems to be improving as a VAC coating means it's more durable. Same thing with rubber. Most rubber you see now on toys is a semi-soft plastic-esk material that's not actually rubber.

The problem I have is pure aesthetic preference. Chrome is almost always garish and overly eye catching. It looks inferior to silver/gold paints 99% of the time.

My exceptions are the dinobots. To me they are supposed to look garish and painfully gaudy. They, to me, are the 80's personified.

No surprise, but Iron Factory knocked it out of the park on Lord Scorpion. If he was just like a head taller he'd be completely perfect. As it is he could be a slightly smaller TR deluxeif you didn't care about Legends scale. I can't wait for the official titan class Scorponok so he can man it.

This is nice. Let's not forget the dumpy light-up gimmick that fused his wrist in one position, too.

>>6020379
Still, I'm just not a fan of the unpainted gray plastic and the gaudy vacuum metalized gold. It may not be particularly "accurate" to anything, but I'd kill for a Grimlock with straightforward silver and gold paintjob. Even gray and gold, as long as it's paint. Gray plastic is forever doomed to look like cheap, swirly garbage, and it makes it really hard for me to justify spending $200.
>>
>>6020912
I'm torn. I like the overall look of MP-36 the most, but the flat gray paint, massive head and animation-error Decepticon badge are all a big dealbreaker.

Honestly, I think Despotron looks best alongside MP-10, but that's because MP-10 came from a time when the MP line wasn't so much about slavish cartoon accuracy. It was about making the cartoon models into good toys, instead of making the toys look EXACTLY like cartoon models, and Despotron is in line with that.

Appolyon is just a hot mess, and Mightron might look nice if he hadn't skipped leg day.
>>
>>6022058

But thats how G1 Grimlock looks. Swirly grey plastic and silver/gold accents with smokey black translucent plastics here or there.

They at least all ball knees which at this size makes up for no thigh swivel to me. The lack of head movement is a shame, but I'm still looking forward to them.
>>
>>6023717

I don't love headmasters in general, but the real deal breaker is the lack of a neck swivel. The nano-sized bots look like fucking shit anyway, why not give them a soda can head rather than a cinder block head so at least the main robot isn't compromised?
>>
Peaugh reviewed FT Grinder.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNELjZYYRAg

Honestly, I can't help but feel like Fans Toys majorly dropped the ball on this one. It feels more like a WeiJiang style updated KO of the original and even then like it was a rush job.

Also holy shit all that creaking, other Fans Toys releases don't have that do they?

What optimus figures exist that are either cybertronian design, great robot mode, or a good shrunken version of the MPs?

Clearly I was meaning size wise based on the sentence before that. And he's still a great figure, I don't mind if he doesn't look exactly like the game model. He's close enough and good in his own right.
>>
>>6024246
All things considered I prefer the proportions of the toy to the game model. Game model is too Gears of War roidin'

I really don't know what more he could have been. The MP is outdated and was shackled with some pretty bad gimmicks that compromised the functionality of the figure.

This is really just a better MP grimlock which is exactly what he was trying to do. I like the clean boots in robot mode and the fixed arm proportions due to not being on those ball jointed riser pieces the MP has.

The video didn't show it but his arms collapse to avoid the lanky arms in bot mode.

I think he's better than the MP and upscaled MP's but maybe not enough for replacing your upscaled MP if your fine with him.

I don't have any interpretation of GL on my shelf so this is an obvious choice.
>>
>>6024330

Are there any good, non-fuckhueg G1 style Grimlock's that aren't the MP though?

Really annoying that the MP line has the looks I like, but everything has to be fucking huge because it's all scaled off Prime's big ass.
>>
>>6024337

Everything MP or pretending to be MP is drifting towards the UNGHHHHH THICKERRRR wing of design philosophy.

Planet X Jupiter is soon to be released and its a voyager FOC Prime. Probably the most cybertonian you're going to get next to Alpha Pack. It also has a sexy clean back. Pic related.
>>
>>6024237
I have the original, and he is fine for me, i use him as the stepping stone between orion pax and prime.
>>
>>6024171

Also Spark Toys Alpha Pack is pretty much the Dreamwave War within design brought to life and not a disaster like the official titanium one.
>>
>>6024337
But... dinobots are supposed to be huge. Also if ur not going for mp10 based scale mp grimlock still makes a perfect classics scale. Hes basically leader scaled which is appropriate to all apperances in fiction.

Or theres planet x vulcan, based on his wfc look
>>
>>6024389
Sixshot is to scale as he was in the anime and Overlord isn't MP scale but is a big character. For MP scale he'd probably have to be as big as jetfire.

I would be fine if they kept the 86+ bots show accurate as possible while making the diaclone to 85 cast a balance, that would be good.

which optimus figures are in scale with lord scorpion? official or 3rd party, doesn't matter, think it'd be hard to find a 14cm optimus.
>>
>>6024790
Not that guy, but poor plastic tolerances, cheap material, list goes on and on and I'd rather not deal with that.
>>
>>6023717
>I'm still looking forward to them.

They're also looking forward, because that's the only direction they can look.
>>
>>6024790

Creaking is generally just too tight plastic rubbing against each other. Loosening panel screws or lubing fixes the issue most of the time.

It's not something a 180~ dollar figure should be experiencing anyway. I hope it gets worked out before production.

Damnit. The Seacons are some of my favourites (own the reissues actually) and this looks awesome. Shame it's gonna cost over £400. And with budget and space a consideration I'm probably gonna have to choose between this or Gravity Builder. I'm leaning towards Gravity Builder, as HasTak might do a good job on Piranacon in the supposed third part of the Prime Wars trilogy, whereas their Devastator came out and was shit.
>>
>>6025757

I think you have that backwards. Devastator came out great (well, the UW version anyway), and if Piranacon comes out if he's done CW/UW style, it's a tossup. Plus we'll probably be missing Piranacon's original gimmick with it to boot. And we know he probably isn't going to be a Titan Class, because the next 3 Titans are already known thanks to the poll to determine which ones we're getting (FortMax who already came out, Tryp is next).

tl;dr Wait and see if the full 3P Pirana comes out good, and skip GB if it does.
