For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build

Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.

Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS

Due Date: November 1st

Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.

For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.

Secret Santa

It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.

A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

As always, I'm available here, on IRC, or at [email protected].

Step 2, need to focus on the leg some more but not sure how to detail it up. Torso work is getting there at least.

The ear insert is an old ear pud cut down to size.

While it's certainly impressive from a purely "this is something that was made" point of view, I can't be the only one that thinks those ultra high detail 3rd party kits look really tacky. Like there's a point where a design goes past being visually interesting to just being noise.

Totally agree. The line between visual interesting to noise is the easiest way to separate Gundam and Transformers. The best Transformers were the earliest that visually looked interesting without too much detail all over. The movie Transformers were a prime example of over detail.
Only time I ever see a Gundam match these levels are these 3rd party kits or customs.

I think you might be going a little overboard on the weathering, bro. It kinda looks like rusted out 50-year-old playground equipment.

Also, it was a serious mistake to weather the gun. It'll never fire properly in that condition. Even if you don't give a shit about the paint job on your mech you ALWAYS take care of your guns.
>>
>>5990811
I think it looks good. Like something being displayed in a war museum.

It's so damaged by neglect and oxidation that we have to keep it in a giant vacuum-sealed case or it would collapse into a huge pile of rusty scraps and lead paint chips. Now, if you'll follow me, we'll head through the gift shop on our way out!

My Figure-Rise Perfect Cell just arrived and the two halves of exoskeleton pieces have so many connecting points that I'm worried if I assemble them for test fitting I'll never get them apart. Anybody else built this thing yet?
>>
>>5990784
It's an Eva.
>>
>>5990922
Put your knife in the peg hole and open it up a little by spinning it inside.

Cut the pegs down in length so they can't push as deep.

Neither will matter when you glue it together.
>>
>>5990896

Look, my point is the build lacks... shit. Narrative cohesion?

It doesn't look like it was damaged in battle. It doesn't look like it recieved natural weathering in service due to adverse conditions. It bloody well looks like it was abandoned at the amusement park in Pripyat since the incident.

And if that's what he was going for, fantastic. You could make an absolutely gorgeous diorama with that idea. Grind some rust holes in the armor, add some overgrowth, drop some hanging moss and lichen on there, it'll look great.

But you can't strap some huge thrusters and sensor arrays on there like it's going into battle and have it be believable.

That's all I'm saying.

>>
>>5990959
I did plan to cut the pegs, but it's not those I'm worried about. It's the billion little pieces that show through the holes in the outer layer to make the spots. I guess I can assemble one or two exoskeleton pieces just to see how easily they come apart.

>>5990969
Assembling the figure without glue to see how it looks and how everything fits before you take it apart to paint and stuff. I plan to do some modification to this kit, so that's extra important.
>>
>>5990984
The Psycho is a bit silly for me, and I feel like I'd only ever display it in booster form.
At least with Neo Zeong, I can show it off when friends come over and they'll see that I actually have huge robots.
>>
>>5990811
The question here isn't how the machine is working, its how the pilot is working, because apparently he has been deployed for far to long without R&R if they haven't had a chance to fix the paint on his mech.

Because if it's just the same kit with different stickers, I can just paint Carta's with Gold instead of Red anyways...

An extra Sword on the other hand makes it TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Now for the original question:
>>5990453
>Are the MG Grazes worthwhile? I've only ever bought HGs, but I'm tempted.
Eh, personally I wouldn't bother.
Here is Type V3's review of the basic 1/100 Graze:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2KlB5ZjNYs
Honestly, other than the helmet being hinged and the waist piston gimmick, it actually seems kind of a downgrade from the 1/144 scale HG version.
I mean, since both have an inner frame already, it's little more than an up-scaled HG to begin with, plus it's kinda a let down in the accessory department.
Besides the inclusion of a set of open hands, you only get the parts to make either the Space OR the Ground Boosters instead of just getting both like the HG, plus the Ax only has the mounting peg on ONE side.
That means to load up your Graze with two or more Axes, the blades would be sticking out every which way!

>>
>>5991144
You can just flat coat, or repaint it. It's especially easy on the RG, given the part separation. On the other versions, the gold is stickers.
>>
>>5991144

The Banshee is a nice, nice looking MG. Does it happen to have the option to turn the head into the Unicorn looking form with the monohorn? Your other choices seem really solid, you have some patrician tastes.

Mega cheap, averaging about $6 USD altogether, so you don't have to worry about fucking up something expensive, and being a Build Fighters series model it's outright made for customization.

Are there any 1/144 kits that look good unpainted? Eh, I wouldn't worry too much when it comes to the Graze, it's basically this series' Zaku and the closest we've gotten to a modern HG Leo.
Hell, the ceremonial Graze Ritter is still in the first Season Two Opening!

Personally I'd agree, since it takes as many ques from the Leo as it does the Zaku; The design making it obvious that this is a mass-produced piece of military hardware.
Combined with IBO's Part Swapping and HG Inner Frame gimmicks, it just makes for a fantastic kit!

It feels like a competent mobile suit in design and use. I mean I love early UC stuff, but IBO feels like it has enough realism in the suits to make it far less far fetched.
>>
>>5992789
The combat feels like 08Ms Team in space
No infinite laser spam
No unlimited fuel/energy
Solid blunt steel weapon too crush enemies MS instead of beam saber.
>>
>>5992794
Yeah, I'm liking the lack of ultra giga death hand cannon spam, since it helps prevent asking why you need a humanoid frame to act as a weapons platform in the first place.

Beam Sabers are alright as long as they aren't Swords of Cut Everything.
>>
>>5992794
Oh shit, that's exactly what I was thinking. The fights are pretty much Norris Packard style all fight every fight. None of this "I defeated you, but will let you live to fight another day" stuff so far.
>>
>>5992802
>Beam Sabers are alright as long as they aren't Swords of Cut Everything.

Maybe seeing beam saber, heat axe/sword, GN sword etc slashing and melting MS is pretty common in gundam series.

So seeing new action like blunt object/weapon crushing MS giving me more satisfaction.
>>
>>5992812
I think having a series that has suits that need to go back to refuel during a fight, use blunt melee and non laser distance weapons gives the show a sense of realism in a generally pretty unrealistic concept. Like they got the technology to get a mobile suit working but not worked out how to get the laser aspect to work.
Barbatos with the Mace and Wrench Mace is way more satisfying to watch than a beam sword cut through 20 plus grunt units.
>>
>>5992823
Just a heads up, in most gundam series beams =/= lasers.
>>
>>5992827
Admittedly I used them both pretty interchangeably there but the shift from beam/laser to physical/ballistic was the general idea.
>>
>>5992843
>Admittedly I used them both pretty interchangeably there but the shift from beam/laser to physical/ballistic was the general idea.
Yeah, I had a similar idea for my own Gundam Series concept, except instead of the super armor being completely immune to ballistic weapons, it's just resilient to the point where you don't want to risk blowing a hole in the grillion dollar space habitat you're fighting over.
Hence taking a CQC vet of the Martian Independence War and putting him in a quirky squad of Mo-cap Mecha Pilots including a "Space Fencer" and a "Cos-battler" who beats people with shields.
>>
I just want to see a mobile suit slam head into enemy head, before promptly dumping head vulcan fire into the enemy.
>>
>>5992865
Vulcan Headbutt has a nice ring to it.
>>
>>5992871
Gundam CQC just sounds so brutal. You would think pilots would be trained like soldiers, since they are often in areas where blasting away with weapon fire could cause massive destruction and collateral damage. I think IBO is heading in the right way, we can only hope for cityfights in the shadows of skyscrapers, where hand to hand is essential.
>>
>>5992331
Is it just a plain recolor? I like the Marasai and I like the Unicorn ver better than the Zeta ver, but the MG Marasai doesn't have that much 'wow' factor for me. It probably won't be ranking high on my wishlist.

>>5992458

Hence my thinking here: >>5992862

>>
>>5992904
It shrunk around the time of the F91 if I remember right. SWAT Gundam when?
>>
>>5992915
>SWAT Gundam when?
Basically what NOT!Kaoruko job on the team is; While the use of high powered projectile and explosive weaponry is prohibited within or directed towards a Colony, the Colonies themselves are often bristling with Coil Guns for debris deflection/collection and defense, meaning the Mobile Suit on point needs to be able to soak a LOT of incoming fire for it's teammates behind it.

>>

Quite easy to think Dalong might not have done this with it been a set and they are usually somewhere down at the bottom and as such can be easy to overlook.

Yeah, it is definitely cramped. I talked about it in an imgur album commentary, but working with 4 MGs is really hard, and not just size, but the limited articulation these old MGs have too. Also, gotta include the whole squad for anime's sake at the cost of the clutter.

And yup, it's a railroad model. It's the DPM M.T. Arms Hotel specifically. The scale is slightly off from the gunpla, since I believe it's 1/67 or something like that, but it was the closest generic building and about the right size I could find for a good price.

So I've been looking a lot at some of the MG kits recently, my idea was to essentially do a few Char or Char clone mobile suits together for display so I've been looking at the Red Zaku II, Sinanju, Tallgeese I and Grimgerde. Anyway I was wondering how consistent the scale between a lot of the MGs actually is? Don't want to be lining up a midget Sinanju next to a towering Zaku II if you get what I mean
>>
>>5993725
Heh, I've seen that kit sitting in a plastic bag at my hobbyshop every time I've gone in there for like 3 years now.
>>
>>5993869

Well, they're all 1/100. Depends on how big the particular mobile suits are.
>>
>>5993871
That doesn't surprise me as I don't imagine it's very popular or even "good". The first thing I noticed while testing how it would all fit is that all 4 sides are different heights.

IBO is probably my favorite show on Toonami, and current favorite Anime. Fuck Rec in G though, my hopes died with each line as the episodes went on and on.

I'm planning to make a spray booth and this is the fan that I found that was in my budget which was a ceiling type. My question is should I remove the plate in the middle of the face plate(?) or just remove the whole thing?
>>
>>5994169
>>5994219
I know you're just joking, but keep in mind that Sunrise and Bandai hobby work independantly as two different organizations under Bandai and gunpla is made through a license that Bandai hobby acquire's from Sunrise. And Badai Hobby is a sponsor for the anime, not Sunrise as a sponsor for the gunpla.
>>
>>5994483
If my experience is anything to go by its gonna be piss weak and not strong enough for a booth.
It works, but theres gonna be so much overflow unless your booth is almost the same size as the fan opening
>>
>>5994501
So it would be better the bigger the booth?
>>

MG endless waltz Epyon for 73. MG banshee for $81, at which point I spun around and didn't look at anything else.

>>

I haven't begun to build it yet. I tested it out before buying and felt that it had enough power. I also spray at about 15 psi so that might help
>>

The usual test is to light a match near the fan. If you can't smell any smoke, it'll work.

I'll probably try to put in some cardboard walls if the booth is too large. Regarding the fan, should I go with grill on, middle plate off or bare fan?

Got first kit.

So I've washed all the stuff and I've started on step one, the inside skeleton part. Do you guys glue together the front and back of the body, putty and sand it? Or is it hidden and generally not worried about?

HGUC Zaku II
>>
>>5994802
Also the guide says to sand nubs then paint the discolouration caused by the sanding, would I have to paint the whole piece if I did that?
>>
>>5994802
>>5994817

brother you are all over the place, just try cutting the nubs off and putting it together like in the manual
>>
>>5994846
Like test fit?
>>
>>5994853
Test fitting is one way to start. It gives you a 3D model you can use to plan your seam welding/painting process.
>>
>>5994860
Is it very easy to take apart after?
>>
>>5994802
>>5994817
>>5994853

why are you trying to jump ahead to things if you don't really know what you are doing?
>>
>>5994802
>>5994817
>>5994853
Gundam models don't "need" any paint, glue, or putty.
Also, when the guide says you'll need paint, they mean paint the whole model, not just the discoloration. You probably will get worse results if you just paint area where the nub used to be because it's impossible to get the paint to be the exact same colour as the plastic.

Unless you plan on going back and doing seam welding, painting, etc. you can just put the thing together and call it a day. If you want to do the extra stuff, sanding down/cutting the pegs that hold two pieces together makes it easier to take them after testfitting
>>
>>5994934
So by calling it a day so to speak and just putting it together, I sand the nubs but am left with the discoloration and seems?

I might have to paint it in that case afterwards
>>
>>5994944
Yeah, although the nub discolouration usually isn't too bad, and you don't usually notice it unless you look for it.
If you do decide to paint it, handbrushing an HG can take a while, so be patient with it. You'll want to prime it first, and then paint it doing multiple thin coats, perpendicular to each other. Vallejo acrylic paint is often regarded as the best for handbrushing, but whatever you end up choosing, try to get something meant for modelling, and make sure to thin your paints
>>
>>5994695
Clear acrylic nail polish works, and is really cheap. Have you painted the kit at all, other than the v-fin and beam saber?
>>
>>5994695
Just get some future.
>>

I have Godhand Ultimate and Keroro Nippers, as we as Tamiya Sharp Pointed Side Cutters, and the Ultimate is indeed better than the other nippers that I have tried and own. No idea how long they last, and the "blades" aren't replaceable: in fact it's only sharp on one side.
I wouldn't pay more than list price for them.

The Zaku III's the oldest, so engineering is the least modern but it's also the cheapest.

If you're gonna get a Rozen Zulu to be FABULOUS, get the Episode 7 version for more accurate colors.

The O requires the least work to be color accurate, also has four beam sabers.

Zudah just plain looks good. And that rifle is glorious.

I do not recommend the Zaku III at all. Coming from a guy who thinks the Zaku III is one of the best Zaku designs, it being one of the first HGUCs makes it really bad and reminded me of how far gunpla has come.

I do not have the Rozen Zulu or Zudah, but I hear good things about them. I do have The-O, and I think it's a really good kit. It even has a partial inner frame for how old it is and looks very menacing and able to move, surprisingly. Also like that guy said, the 4 beam sabers are cool. The oob yellow looks crappy though.

Zaku III is one of the first kits to come out of the HGUC Line so it really shows it's age and needs some work to make it presentable.

Zudah Is a good basic kit fun and comes with lots of weapons.

The O is there for it's size and multiple beam sabers.

As for Rozen Zulu it's a good kit but get the Episode 7 version so you get it color correct.
