For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build

Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.

Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS

Due Date: November 1st

Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.

For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.

Secret Santa

It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.

A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

As always, I'm available here, on IRC, or at [email protected].

Hey, whatever works anon. The drill/nail suggestion is fine for larger kits, but harder to accomplish on 1/144 scale

it shouldn't be too hard on smaller kits, you just need smaller nails/pins and a pin vice.

The backpack has a habit of coming loose on mine but that's the only problem.

>>5987769

Should be compatible with each other since they both use the sized polycap for the 'neck'

Hell, you could even use No Grade 1/144 heads on HG 1/44 kits.

Well I finally finished the straight built of the HG Psycho Zaku. I really like the main unit but the backpack is even larger than I imagined. I couldn't even begin to think of where I can place it.

I can't imagine the room the MG version will take up.

Thought it would be ready made
ByMabuseon November 30, 2008
but it is for assembly. I was a bit surprised, when the Gundam Nataku arrived as a model kit in many plastic pieces.
However, it was relatively easy to built due to the very good Japanese manual with many pictures(!). Even if you don't speak Japanese - I know only some basic words, you can built it.
It is surprisingly easy, because you 'click' the single pieces together and the irritating bunch of plastic pieces suddenly becomes the Nataku! Amazing. My Japanese wife told me that the Japanese engineers have a patent on this click and build technology. Really interesting.
I bought this for my eight year old daughter, who loves Gundam but I built it - well...
It was fun to built it but some small parts were missing and some were not part of the plan. The parts were missing maybe because my daughters were taking off the parts from their holders first and put it back into the paper box. However, nothing important was missing.
The model is not painted but looks already very good without paint. According to the indiviual model building skills of the builder, the Nataku can look very good and is relatively stable. But also only with putting the pieces together, the Nataku looks very nice and is worth the money.
The model is stable but not too much. I guess it won't survive a throw against the wall. You can move many parts, the arms, claws, upper body and legs which gives you a great amount of positions to put the Gundam. It is about 20 cm or 7.9 inches tall - guess.
All in all, I would say, highly recommended, fun to build and fun to play with it. It is an original Japanese model set, produced by Bandai with Japanese description.
Have fun!

Looks like they're really trying to stretch out the Origin line some more. Feels like they're really pulling some of these kits out of their ass.
>>
>>5988215
According to its manual and MSD page material it was supposed to be based on the rx-78-1 and sort of like the GM Ground and early types with gathering data to use towards a true mass production line. But then the RX-78-1 got destroyed at side 7 so the plan was scrapped because the -1 never finished testing.
>>
>>5988399
Funny thing is they could easily do some pretty good variants. I would love to see them do MSD versions of the Z'gok and Gelgoog, and add in other GMs.

Easy to paint. The only real seams you even have to worry about if you seam weld are on the head and weapons and a simple one along the torso.

Excellant part separation all around and the kit itself is perfect for simple customs for beginners too.
>>
>>5988890
Also, I would suggest completely painting over the clear eye parts or just using the sticker. The made the clear part too thick so once you paint the black around the eyes they basically become invisible, even if you paint the backing in silver.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else on /gunpla/ tend to grab kits in pairs or sets? Stuff like Sazabi and Nu, or any of the other rival suits? Mostly asking since I am beginning gunpla, but am one of those autists with obsessive compulsive, and feel the overwhelming urge to get two models instead of just one, irregardless of what it is. GM and Zaku II, Gundam and Neo Zeong, etc.
>>
>>5989245
I don't buy in sets, but I do make a point of trying to get the lead Gundam as an MG and all the rival suits/grunts as HGs. They wouldn't be displayed next to each other, but I would like to have at least the two main good and bad guys from each series.

>TAMIYA SCRIBER II

you should have asked bro
>>
>>5989665
What's wrong with that scriber?
>>
>>5989669

it's great for plane fuselages and not much else
>>
>>5989671
Oh, what makes a scriber good for Gunpla then?
>>
>>5989671
I use it for getting straight lines in styrene sheets and shit and it's perfect for that.
>>
>>5989646
Nah man, the Neo. It helps to counter plot armor.
I goofed. So hard.
>>
>>5989691

same kind of thing, any long straight lines it's fine for, but that's not what most people who are buying side nippers are buying a scriber for, they want to be a true customu master like on buildo fightahs

I have this scriber. Is it regarded as good?
>>
>>5989700

yeah any round style scriber is roughly equivalent, theyre good for like setting lines, especially good at corners in a line
>>
>>5989700
it's a needle, not a scriber, it cuts v-shaped grooves only

it's fine for small circles and such but not much else

What are you guys building tonight? Friend is finishing off his first build, Astray. I'm working on a Gouf custom. Hoping to teach him the finer points of panel lining soon.
>>
>>5989720

>lining up all of your pieces like a chocolate box

BRO WHAT
>>
>>5989720
I'm going to prep some pieces for my 1/144 Gusion, maybe make my first attempt at a proper wash.
>>
>>5989726
It's build night, anon.
>>
>>5989720
roadwheels. Its just the same pieces over and over, far from interesting enough for a picture desu.
>>
>>5989720
Was going to toss a Sazabi together, but ended up talking to my friend with terminal cancer. It's a sad night it seems.
>>
>>5989671
It's not for scribing at all. It's a scoring tool. The blade head is way too wide for any scribing but it's perfect for scoring. Literally almost the same size as a utility scoring tool.
>>
>>5989754
Ah, what's a good scriber to get then? The guide doesn't really cover this.
>>
We're do you guys find bootleg kits? I'm thinking of getting a daban pg
>>
>>5989665
>>5989671
>>5989754
Aaah fuck. Well, glad I checked back in here before I used it on any future builds. I planned to use it for creating channels along sculpted edges for cleaner edge lining. So if this scriber isn't recommended, what would be?
>>
>>5989776
It's not like you couldn't do it with this scriber, you just have to be very, very careful. Also fine control

It's great for scratch building though

The heat sword is odd to put on the shield, in my experience. Good kit, but the Revive version is superior I have heard. I built the Custom before the standard, so my bar was raised pretty high.

I'm just butthurt because I paid like 400-500 yen per item with HLJ, although that could easily be because I bought a couple items and it all came in one package. I fully expect to get fucked when I buy my first PG kit.
>>
>>5989850
>superior
How so? I've heard nothing but good of the custom.
>>
>>5989862
I meant the Revive to the standard Gouf HG. Custom is a really great build. Mine has posing and standing issues, but having been my second kit I probably was the cause of that. Sorry for not being clear with that- I would recommend the Gouf Custom to anyone interested in gunpla.
>>
>>5989867
Yeah, I compared the custom to the revive when picking it and went for this because I had it had very good arm strength.

>>
>>5989838
I missed it looking on dalong. It was as J.Ridden and I ctrl+F Johnny and didn't see it and I couldn't find one on amiami
>>
>>5989877
its honestly not that bad. Each one of the larger wheels is 3 pieces. there are 10 of them then the sprockets and idlers. The plastic is a little bit harder than I care for, close to some of the plastic koto used a few years back for the muv luv kits.
>>5989880
I don't have any gouf kits though. I am working on a zaku MG right now but ironically I find the pipes and tubes to be more taxing than roadwheels.
>>
>>5989882
No worry. I had it in my cart so it took me all of a few seconds of scrolling to find the image/kit.

>>5989884
Clearly you are missing something in your life. The tubes and pipes are pretty annoying, the HG is simple in that regard.
>>
>>5989893
Taxing may not be the right word, troublesome might have been better. I recently started working on some of my gunpla backlog after switching to mostly armor. I think after the Zaku II I'm going to begin working on the HMM Gojulas that's been collecting dust for the last couple of years.
>>
So, when mixing washes is there any indicator I can use to tell if I got the ratios right or close to right without actually painting?

Besides primer I've heard you can sand the plastic so that the paint will stick. How coarse should the grit be? 600 or 1200?
>>
>>5989959
if you are using spray cans or an airbrush primer isn't as necessary unless you are doing a dramatic color shift.
>>
>>5989959
>1200 grit sandpaper
I mean that might be nice for polishing or whatever but I'd use at least 600 grit for sanding. Actually, I'd probably prep with a grit around 400~ and you could probably get away with an even lower grit count.
>>
>>5989972
I was worried that I might deform the piece or remove details with 600.Though I guess that'd only happen if I sand too much
>>
>>5989907
Test it. You'll come to recognise the consistency with experience
>>
>>5989521
Microset is weaker and should be used first.

Microsol is powerful enough to prevent you from moving most decals after its application
>>
>>5989975
You'd have to be mindful of details with a 400 grit but with 600 I wouldn't worry very much at all. The idea behind sanding the surface is to rough up the surface so the paint has a porous surface to adhere to.

Yeah, when Hobby Link Japan was having their Summer Customize Deal, they had a few SEED No-grades on the qualifying list for $2.50 apiece.
Since I wanted more of those damned Customize Kits, I tried to order as many as I could, but for some un-explained reason they've got a "One per customer" limit on them, so I got the Strike and the Duel for generic filler Gundams.

Also have a No-Grade Sword Impulse coming for those sweet, sweet Anti-Ship Swords, but it went to back-order when I first tried to make this one.
