For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build

Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.

Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS

Due Date: November 1st

Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.

For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.

Secret Santa

It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.

A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

As always, I'm available here, on IRC, or at [email protected].

I might spend a semester in Beijing next year, is it a good place to find gunpla? Or am I better off planning a trip to Hong Kong?
>>
I want to make a display with all scales of Zaku II disponible. So far I've got the RG, MG 2.0, and Mega Size 1/48. I'm waiting to order the PG and I know there's some line of figure that's 1/200, and there's the Assault Kingdom line, though I don't know what scale exactly those are.
Anything more I'm missing?
>>
>>5980766
The SD. He's a cutie.
>>
>>5980768
I'm trying to keep mostly to the same proportions, even though I like SDs. On that note, I'd like a new Zaku II SD, with slightly less squattish proportions, in the vein of the recent releases.

>>
>>5980853
Sorry, was just trying to gauge from your existing collection. Get the Unicorn PG if you have the dosh. It even comes with its own stand. Otherwise, I'd say get the Strike or Mk. II based on pure aesthetics.

A vanilla jesta always looks incomplete, like it's missing something, whereas the jesta cannon looks 10/10 god tier. It's like the jesta cannon was the default and the jesta is a stripped down version rather than the jesta being the default with the jesta cannon having a bunch of extra stuff added.

Jesus christ Garrod Ran is such a simpering entitled faggot. I thought early Amuro Ray was bad

Hell is wrong with Garrod? Kid committed mass murder enough times to feel entitled to freaking the fuck out. Amuro and Kamille had a tendency of going off on their tangent because a single person they knew died, atleast Garrod had the decency to feel the deaths of the hundreds of faceless he melted.
>>

The problem is he didnt care about killing people.

Oh yeah, well, its been a decade for me so I forget things. So you are totally justified on that.

Because I need me some Jenice.

Yea, but Char wasnt constantly whining about somesuch thing or another. He knew what he wanted and threw fuck all to the wind to get it

All you have to do is imagine Byarlant-chan wanting to give you a big, warm hug.

She's always hot on the heels of her rivals and goals but falls short and is often lonely, which is usually her own fault. Despite this she's determined and can be quite fierce if challenged.
If you talk to her about mass production she'll get all flustered.

>>
>>5982275
for regular frame arms, paint is sort of a must because some factory worker snapped the architect frame in a hurry. I'm currently working on a rapier zephyr and the plastic is a completely different shade of blue from the promos shots. Working on painting her to get it more accurate and detailed

Like the other posters said, frame arms girls were made to look good without it. I still have stylet in my backlog because I plan to make a few mods to it.
>>
>>5982572

it's still in your house go find it
>>
>>5982572
Like the other anon said, find it. Loose polycaps, especially the shoulders joints, are really easy to find because of their relative size.

I dropped a gold thruster from the HG High mobility zaku 2 on my tan carpet and was able to find it.

Granted it took me about half an hour of solid searching plus vacumming the area and siphoning through the canister dust for it.
>>
>>5982695
>>5982662
I spent an hour looking, decided to raid one of my other kits for the same piece, I'll just pick up a cheap kit and take the joint from that later, maybe the joint will turn up by then.

Well, sand paper and files are fine, but lack precision control unless its already almost flat. xacto blades are really about accuracy. The problem is that in order to have better control, cutting away doesnt work, so it requires cutting towards. Thats not even my dominate thumb. Its worked on hundreds of Warhammer models by now, all having nubs removed the same way. My right hand looks like hamburger meat by now
>>
>>5982765
Perhaps try using your nippers instead of a knife to cleave close enough for sandpaper to work? Your method sounds frustrating and painful.
>>
>>5982772
Nipper put too much stress on the nub and leave stress marks that are a pain to get rid of if you arent a paint fag. This is fine for Warhammer, since everything has to be painted, but on gunpla, I dont have an airbrush, so I dont bother
>>
>>5982765
Scratch build yourself a wood plane, but for plastic
>>
>>5982750
After using them for 2 years, I'm at the point where I never draw blood when using knives. The best 2 pieces of advice I can give is to always use a new sharp blade and be aware of where you're pointing the edge. A sharp blade cuts more consistently, and if you aim the blade away from your fleshy or parts or towards your fingernail you're less likely to cut yourself. Also when cutting don't put all your pressure down on the blade towards what you're cutting, push on the blade parallel like you're using a hacksaw to cut wood, and the blade won't go flying when it cuts through.
>>
>>5982792
I dont draw blood either anymore. Though I did learn my lesson using a dull knife several years back after slicing off my finger tip on my index finger. Was cutting away to modify a warhammer model and the blade slipped and went right through the tip of my finger

Our universe was actually created by multidimensional transforming war robots, we are DNA-coded to be fascinated by destructive robots and obsessively design and redesign endless variants of them, and at the same time evolve highly enough to start building reinforcements for their large scale/long term operations. Here on Earth we are nearly to the point of initial manufacture. Our collective subconscious is now brimming with mecha-saturated media, it won't be long now.

The EX line was supposed to be a cheaper SD line for sale in south east asia /america, that's why HLJ didn't sell them at first because they weren't supposed to be sold in Japan. But then after like 6-8 months they changed their minds.
So there's an EX and BB Barbatos but I think the BB is just the EX with some extra stuff sadly.

They are great for more diffuse washes, but they stay wet for so long that it's really not ideal for any area painting. the whole reason enamels are used instead is that they dry much harder and adhere more strongly. A big part of what you want in model painting, but most especially in gunpla painting, is durable paints that can hold up to the posing and stress of assembly that most other models never have to deal with.

Does anyone else have really hot hands?

My hands are just unusually warm and I have to wear gloves during assembly with even 3 day dried enamels because I can put a finger print impression in the paint just by heat. I usually wear gloves during assembly to avoid this, or even assemble outside on a little table when it's colder.
>>
>>5983979
The main reason I'm set on using Linseed-based is that I want to make my own custom paint for what will hopefully be a "Wow" factor.
>>
>>5983999

I have no idea what you mean, but I doubt you'll get very good results. There's a reason linseed oil paints are only used for washes

I think you should explain a bit more because it's easy to write this off as a bad idea. Or are you actually planning on trying to touch and pose this after.

Why do you guys hate the Astray so much anyways? Did it kill your waifu?
>>
>>5984680
astray ugliness is a meme
>>
>>5984680
Too edgy for some people. I say it's not edgy enough.
>>
>>5984550
Group Gunpla building sounds like fun.
>>
>>5984682
It is insanely ugly though.
>>
>>5984675
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
>>
>>5984692
A lot of people have local meet ups, but I try to keep it to friends. I'm hoping for us to have a big meet for our Christmas exchange this year.
>>
Just been sitting at work waiting for tickets to come in and got into thinking.

How the fuck do I make sure all my Gunpla, built or unbuilt, action figures, gokins, video games, shoes, clothes and other materialistic bullshit goes to a good home when I die alone and lonely surrounded by all this things I love but are not capable of loving me back?

Do I write a will saying that they should all go to all my buddies in the Gunpla General thread on /toy/ and /m/? What if 4chan doesnt exist anymore then?

I dont want it to go to fucking Salvation Army or some shitfuck Goodwill store who'll profit off of it and pocket the money or use it for a cause I really dont give a fuck about.
>>
>>5984733
It will probably be trashed.
That's what I assumed will happen to the video games I still hold onto.
>>
>>5984733
you can set it up to be given out at random on 4chan. if 4chan doesnt exist anymore you can update the will.
>>
>>5984733
nigga you'd be dead at that point and would not give a single fuck
>>
>>5984733
Fuck that, I'm telling my family to burn it all.

Zephyr's cute but her poseability is more limited than I thought it would be. Also koto plastic does not take to files easily. Had to get a fine sanding stick to get the scratches to stop showing through the paint.
>>
>>5984810
Yeah, Zephyr's based on Stylet which was one of the original two Frame Arms kits, which are pretty rough design wise. Newer ones have fewer problems thankfully.

Also yes, Koto's plastic is slightly more...rough? Or something, compared to Bandai's. I had to use fine sandpaper a lot more than regular on a few pieces of the FAG Baselard.
>>
>>5984813
>newer ones have fewer problems
Thats good to hear, i have both upcoming daos po'd since their designs scratch that ground troop grunt itch.

On an unrelated note I hope zephyr gets the f.a.g. treatment. Will be a little disappointing if the bust is small though
>>
>>5984558
You'll need to heavily modify the hip thrusters to go on Kimaris. Kimaris Trooper uses a ball connector instead of a peg for the side skirt pieces.
>>
>>5984818
Same here, they released already, just waiting on shipping confirmation. Also, I'm kind of surprised they haven't done any variants of Stiletto yet since we've got...three Gourai variants?

Turns out the Waterproof gundam has more color seperation in the plastic than initially believed, all the more to hate bandai for making this p-bandai over the shitty local type.
>>
>>5984885
im surprised the white color on the legs aren't stickers
>>
>>5984813
It says in the guide that the real grade "tend to have idiosyncratic issues" what do you mean by this?
>>
>>5984338
I'm in the same boat as well.
Right now I buy from amazon because prime and I have nothing in restocks to buy from HLJ for private warehouse and most HGs are 20 dollars and if I'm paying 20 dollars for a HG I might as well get an RG.
>>
>>5982846
where's the saber from?
>>
>>5984902
it helps that it uses the Gundam Local Type-style legs that are just two halves so they just sandwich together with a white part in the middle.
>>
>>5984680

the ugliness mostly, also it's not very attractive and there is something off about the look, ie it's bad

this is the most redundent sentence ive seen all week

hey you got it!
>>
>>5985181
there is nothing to get. i hope thats not what you consider a joke.
>>
>>5985224

anon are you ok? I'm sorry you thought I made a mistake when I was clearly being redundant on purpose, you don't need to make a bigger issue out of this
>>

why be redundent on purpose for no reason

Autism.

That's PG Strike Freedom, he posted Freedom 2.0. Different mobile suits.
>>
>>5985332
That's sad. I do not need these feels.
>>
>>5985361
Same suit different scale. The point I was trying to make is the size of the wingspan going between the two scales
>>
>>5985385
I want to spend hours, solid days even, working painstakingly on clearing out as much of his HG backlog as is humanly possible so they can display as many nicely assembled and lined HGs as possible at his funeral.

Can anyone recommend some hg gumpla with a second face? Or anything gurren lagann -esque? I'm already looking at the 00 seraphim and one of the astrays that has a face on it's shield.
>>
>>5984929

I have 8 real grades and it is my favorite line and most of the issues I have are with the joints, especially with suits that have larger weapons. Over time they just give out and become very loose. I heard this is made worse if you change their poses frequently.

The other issue that people claim to have but I don't have a problem with is they tend to "explode" when handling them. Because of their small size and high detail, some pieces can shoot off or just fall off when handling them.

However I don't have this issue because I tend to cement small pieces that wont be moving and handle them very gingerly.
>>
>>5985483

Seraphim reminds me a bit of the Gundam Mk-II in best colors. Might have to price one now.
