The Stunticon team, finally complete.

Now to get Superion...
>>
>>5970968
If you are willing to spend more money than you should you'll find the hasbro set, otherwise get the UW superion, least it comes complete
>>
>>5970972
I'm not a fan of the colors on UW Superion, I managed to find a complete CW Superion for $160 so I'm getting that.

???
>>
>>5970978
All 5 original members, in one box.

I didn't think the colors were that big a difference but you're free to choose
>>
>>5970979
Ah, that's what you meant. Personally I'm ok with having Alpha Bravo over Slingshot, as long as it's a functional combiner I'm happy with it.

The colors on UW Silverbolt are a huge turnoff to me, way too much damn yellow. The combined mode still looks passable but the robot mode is awful. Looks like someone's dog took a piss on their Silverbolt while they weren't looking.
>>

How's the fit of blackjack on Menasor's chest? The vanilla one was really loose.
>>

Also very loose but it can hold on if I don't touch it. Definitely tightening those pegs when I get back home.

>>

I would but I'd hate the living shit out of Silverbolt. Also Fireflight and Slingshot's stripe at the back looks like shit imo.

Amazingly, yes. Something tells me it's got to do with the placement of Motormaster's arms, and in turn his combiner port.

Jokes aside, mp's aim for animation accuracy with a mix of toy accuracy, so doing stuff like on the shins there would be "too much" but doing the arms is ok, apparently.

We've still got 3p options if that bothers you, and mind you the inferno and grapple ones do a pretty good job

>>
>>5971070
Do any existing TFs use that transformation scheme? It's pretty neat for being so simple.
>>
>>5971056
Thats the thing now though, MPs lately have shifted to a huge focus on animation accuracy, whereas before MPs weren't going for toy or animation accuracy particularly, so much as [and this isn't a verbatim quote, but Hasui-san said something to the effect of this] "Being the perfect toy of a character"

Since that ideal was lost along with Hasui-san, while MPs have still been great toys and impressively engineered, they've lost the idea of actually being toys as opposed to show-accurate models.

I think this is most visible in the prototypes we saw of the upcoming megatron 2.0, while 3Ps style themselves more after older MPs like MP-10, the new megatron is more like the MP shockwave, cartoon accurate to a fault, as well as using a faux-partsing transformation for megatrons chest since it no longer actually becomes the part of the gun it should, it's just a panel now.

This got a bit rambly, but my general point is MPs were better overall when they didn't aim for total cartoon accuracy

Ok anons, help me pick, masterpiece blue-bluestreak or masterpiece sideswipe for $20 more, BOTH come with coins, not that it matters but pic related differs.

I have already enjoyed both sets of molds substantially, I own all previous datsun molds, and I own the previous 2 lambor molds, the difference however is the lambor molds are ko's and I lack an official entry, whilst the datsuns are 2 hasbro and one takara.

Or should I avoid both and aim for a new mp (I already have primal and grapple on pre-order just so you know).

I have heard the blue-bluestreaks are known for having shoddy paint work, is this correct, what about lambor, surely they can't fuck up red...right?

He's a little bit bigger than Ironhide/Ratchet in robot mode.

That's the trend Japanese mecha figures have headed to for a while. Personally I like it a lot. I think a lajor reason that Jaanese mecha look so appealing as that they look like some densely detailed designs, but if you really look, there's a lot of breathing room for you to digest the details properly. I think that marks the difference between legit designs, and ones done by amateurs, who drown things in details.

...what if I told you I'm not a fan of the ko's after the experience I had with the 2 lambors?

Ok, let me break it down

>datsuns
>all official
>smokescreen was second hand and paint was chipped but clean
>prowl and bluestreak were hasbro but paintwork was rough and excess plastic made if difficult to convert
>had anti hasbro bias after those 2
>get ko g2 sideswipe
>seems fine
>teeth painted roughly
>molding and box differences indicated I got scammed but only found out months later
>get red alert
>alarm bells ring as this was a more obvious ko
>required modification to roll in car mode AND stay tabbed together in robot mode

After my 2 ko's I learnt a lesson, even hasbro DOES have a quality level they adhere too, ko's jump from ok but imperfect to HOLY SMOKING TURDS

I do appreciate the suggestion of getting both, at this point the only "ko" I'll touch is an oversized version of an oc color scheme

>>5971187
Well I'd still have to get that silver-bluestreak if I'm to complete, think I might lean more towards your route, thank you

I'm with this dude, sorta. You need some simplicity in your mecha designs so you have visual balance. You gotta give the eye spaces to rest, it's basic art theory.

Plus, you can always run to third party if you want absurd levels of detail. Pic related, the unreleased and grossly overdetailed Fans Toys Soundwave, which looked good early in production, but then went bad when they took it back to the drawing board to re-engineer and add (too much) surface detail.
>>
>>5971213
is that a new masterpiece soundwave?

I was a spoiled brat and my teams always got completed. My dad work at a telephone company that was in the same area as a TRU so he slowly get me combiner guys as surprised gifts usually once a week, I think he had fun with it to at least the collecting part of it. Superion was first followed by Bruticus, then Devastator after that it's fuzzy the only one I didn't end up getting at all was Predacons/Predaking. When G2 happen my dad got back into gifting me those combiners, I didn't have the heart to tell him I was growing out of toys so I still open them and display them somewhere he could see because I think he like the idea they made me happy.

>>5971213
The other real problem with 3P greebling is a lack of variation in depth and style. If you look at SoC GaogaiGar, there's a mix of deeply cut linework, and soft, shallow lines running along the surface. Even the seemingly smooth spots are still given some detailing, but its so subtle it feels a part of the design rather than drawing attention.

The opposite of this would be something like Hexatron, where all the detailing is done with the same volume so everything kinda gets drowned out. I do still like it, more than the official one we're getting, but it definitely seems more amateur in some respects.
>>
>>5971252
That is true, but the discussion is about MPs specifically.

With Warden's love for G1 accuracy, I wonder if the level of greeble on recent Generations line is a way of further differentiating the mainline from Masterpiece.
>>
>>5971233
And yet another rumor says HasTak is secretly running all 3Ps.
>>
>>5971265

That would be false. However, it's said that some of their designers freelance for 3P's, which I can totally see. It must suck to have ideas and never be able to use them, so I could see why designers would jump at the chance to get stuff made.

And it's obvious HasTak hires 3P designers, given Gen. Arcee was them hiring a garage kit guy....

>>
>>5971277
That has nothing to do with it.

1) The shipping industry is currently oversaturated due to overabundance of supply and weak demand due to the weak global economy especially in China since it was the rise of the PRC was what drove the overabundanceand overbuilding in the first place. Hanjin was only the first and probably won't be the last.

2) Lack of TR probably was because of the upcoming Bayformer movie and Hasbro producing less TR and gearing for the movie and expecting retailers ordering less Generations and favoring Bayformers. The retailers probably never got the memo and strong demand continued for TR figures.

>>5971332
You can still snoop around and find most of the Takara box sets for pretty close to MSRP

The thing with the CW versions though if you have to find 5 seperate toys that are all pushing on 2-3 years old by now, some rarer than others, and they can get just as expensive as a Takara set like that if you can't find good deals.

Disclaimer I'm assuming you are in the American continent:
UW Computron is pricey for what you get. His weapon iterations on the bots is fun (but it's mostly just Nosecone). However the uniformed red paint makes him rather washed out in combine mode, yes I aware that's accurate to the TV show/toy but it's still an eyesore also he has a lot of QC issue mostly with Strafe, but still paying 140~200 for a crap shot of quality isn't a wise thing.

CW Bruticus Has a very sturdy combiner mode and is well formalized in paint distribution making him very satisfying visually, however without 3rd part kits the combiner mode doesn't have much possibility much like Defensor. Separately they hit some snags too, Brawl waist is not good, and Blast off isn't show accurate which could be a con for you. few QC issues are in the set, come reports are Onslaught suffers the same peg issue his mold brother does but reports are rare. Considering you can get the whole team for less then a $100 I say he's the better choice

The only issue on my KO's (wheeljack, g2 swipe, tracks, and bumblebee) was that swipe had a tab that was too fat for the hole under his chest. After cutting it in half with a hot knife it was fine. I have officials of the wheeljack too, and I really cant tell a difference unless i look at mold marks.

Garage kit was the predecessor of 3Ps so even if you want to deny it, without those garage kit makers, the ideas for 3Ps wouldn't even be possible. Sure Garage Kit means only 1 person builds it but that expanded into groups of people who wanted to make their characters right to them contacting factories and getting some deals to manufacture their designs enmasse and that became the 3P era.

Garage kits are their own thing, and exist outside of Transformers. That's all based on the model kit scene in Japan. The genesis of 3P probably owes itself more to KO manufacturers that'd branch into original toys or modifying existing ones than it does the Garage kit scene.
>>
>>5971649
No they are not. If anything a lot of people in asia who grew up with TFs and now having access to a relatively cheap and plentiful manufacturing base and all the technical knowledge to use it that was driven by direct investment from western companies and also a weak legal framework to prosecute them for infringement is what gave rise to 3Ps.
>>
>>5971708
Right garage kits and fanmods are what gave rise to people like Cheets/F_R/Jin as well as the PMOP exclusive from Slagacon and those various Japanese produced mods like CW Fire Convoy and FOC Metalhawk. They are characterized by being relatively less capital and resource intensive compared to 3Ps since the people involved don't have the knowledge and money to finance these larger ventures. Look at what happened with F_R and his G1uppers vaporware or even the PMOP exclusive which pretty much cost the guy who paid for them a lot of money and a lot of nothing.

There are none. UW computron has been solid overall, the only qc issues people have and complain about are typical case by case issues like loose balljoins or tabs or whatever.

Woah, do you just not know how to play with toys or something? Basic Fire convoy is by no means a brick, he has articulation on par with the BW Optimus Primals. Eve superFire Convoy is articulated well if you can balance him.

They are by no means comparable to that Armada garbage; even as a kid I was well aware what a garbage hand going from Fire Convoy to Armada Optimus was. SFC may have been unbalanced, but at least he had legs.
>>
>>5972039
Let me educate YOU faggot. Transformers was dead following Victory and was rebooted into the first Brave series, Yuusha Exkaiser. This Brave series went alongside the anime beast wars and other shows for years until in 2000 the series ended for good and Takara decided to make a new Transformers anime after Beast Machines ended and flopped hard. They were making a show in the style of Braves as that is what the Japanese public wanted and it did extremely well over there.
That's all it is, a Brave series with Transformers.

The line was near perfect save the repaint waves and the QC issues. If Hasbro hadn't moved their factories at such a crucial stage it would have been so much better. If they hadn't done the repaint waves and instead attempted to do an Abominus and Computron wave people would shut up too.
>>
>>5972097
Cybertron was (toywise) the best part of the trilogy, which while admittedly as a whole was shit managed to sustain the line better than Victory or Masterforce ever could. Hell, Victory and Masterforce never even made it out of Japan.

Face it, Car Robots was a shitty cartoon with shitty toys. End of story.

It was nearly perfect, with the only flaws being QC issues due to unfortunate timing of factory moving and the poor choice to do 2 waves of repaints. Those are minor letdowns in the bigger scheme of things.

>This Brave series went alongside the anime beast wars and other shows for years until in 2000 the series ended for good and Takara decided to make a new Transformers anime after Beast Machines ended and flopped hard

ACKSUALLY, the Beast Wars series took over the Brave series once it kicked into full swing. I try to avoid mentioning this fact since I worry it'd make Brave fans pissed at Beast wars, but it probably would've been inevitable even if BW didn't exist. Sunrise and Bandai merged at some point in the 90's, and Bandai is Takara's rival. There where more Brave spinoffs and sequels in the late 90's/2000's, but those where spearheaded by Sunrise, with toys licensed to companies besides Takara. Even now Takakra hasn't touched Brave since the MPs a decade ago.

Now takara has long wanted to make their own, homegrown Brave without Sunrise. In 2000, they tried with Webdiver. But, as you mention, they do try and make Brave style TF series. Recently, TF go!! was an attempt to do a Brave style TF series.
>>
>>5972103
None of them were good.
None of the toys were good save for the odd gem like Shockblast that's only enjoyable in the sense that it has one mode that's passable. Minicons were fun and everything else in the trilogy sacrificed movement, visual design and playability for a gimmick. Look at anything from the trilogy and compare them to Rail Racer or Gigatron. The only bad toys from RID that weren't old repaints of g1/2 stuff were maybe the Autobot brothers, and Prowl looked cool as shit.
>>
Haha! I arranged by shelf so that Generations things based on UT, Aligned, and Beast Wars are bordering their respective continuity family's original era toys while the G1 ones are in the center, making them fit their dual parentage!

They get a lot of flack by idiots who want to claim there's somehow a "wrong" way to design a transformer, despite stuff like partsforming existing from the beginning. Sideburn is a much more respectable looking toy than most of the crap coming out today. I still buy a lot of them, but I don't see how you can look at Sideburn's amazing paintjob and detailed car mode and say that's worse than , say, the CW stunticons.
>>
>>5972113
Bandai makes toys where you get parts that combine together for bigger one, right?
So to beat them at their own game, Takara should make a Xevoz-type one where each one makes a basic themed robot and then you can combine them into larger ones.

>Compare his hands to Metroplex/FortMax
That Unicron is 15 inches
Metroplex/Fort Max is 22 inches
CW Devastator is closer to his height but still beats him by 3 inches

>They are smaller and more articulated.
I can't speak for everyone but I wager the majority would prefer a well rounded transformer over over detail fingers, it's fun but not enough to over look all the other flaws
>Unicron is full of storage areas he has three not counting the 5 peg ports for mini cons, that's what Metroplex has as well.
>He has strong arm ratchets
define "strong" because he was about as flimsy as most figures his size the 2010 remake was the worse about that.

ROTF Bludgeon. Saw him at Simply Toys in Bugis Junction (in Singapore) a few days ago but only decided to go back and pick him up today.

Very odd manufacturing error in his legs though. Both thighs have black paint apps on the reverse side, rather than the front, where they should be. His right thigh also had a weird issue with the ratchets where it's flipped the wrong way so the right leg's outward hip movemet doesn't click like the left one.

Despite this, very cool aesthetic.

Also he can fucking sheath his sword.
