For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build
Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.
Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS
Due Date: November 1st
Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.
For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.
Secret Santa
It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1
A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.
A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

As always, I'm available here, on IRC, or at [email protected].
Finished my first painting project today. Decided to go with a real basic Olive Drab scheme which I like but I dont think the seperation between the two tones of it is really pronounced enough.
Oh well! I also was lazy and used a paint pem for the yellow which looks pretty iffy.

Everything from its design to its weapons to its transformation and to even the way it moves is silly and nonstandard. And the kit is also pretty nice for its age and price although its masking hell if you want it to be color accurate.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement for pic related part (3mm connector hinge)?
My FAG Architect uses 2 of them to connect the hair pieces, but one snapped inside the hair piece and it's impossible to get it out. I could glue it but then I would lose the ability to pose her hair, so if possible I'd rather drill it out and replace it with a new part.
This is a really generic part so I figure I could probably find a replacement, but I can't find one on HLJ or 1999. Anyone know what they're called?

Hey GG, a couple of threads back you provided a potential solution to a problem I was having with loose skirts on my HG Shaldoll Custom. I was able to pick up some sticky tack, but how did you apply it to your build?
>>5942963
Stuck a little bit in the front waist piece where it holds the joints. Might need a couple applications, but just enough and it'll get them tight and easy to deal with.
>>5943038

newfriend here, how does the price brackets on secret santa work?
I'm assuming the bracket you choose determines that value of the kit you send out and the one you receive.
Trying to recycle some of my old busted kits into mecha musume shit. Working on Burning and Master Gundams and it's going pretty well, but their legs are just right fucked beyond all repair. Digging around in my supplies I found some legs that might work -the GP03S legs are the most intact, but look the least like Burning Gundam's legs. I've also got the white mystery legs on the right which looks a hell of a lot closer, but they're completely disassembled, have no feet, and I'll probably have to order or scavenge some polycaps from somewhere.
I have no fucking clue what to use for Master Gundam's legs. These grungy Deathscythe Hell bits are the only thing that even comes close, but that's really only because the feet already have big spikes on them.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

>>5943848
What's so different between the Zoids HMM kits and gendums?
I need some help.
I just assembled my mg v2. No problems except the upper arm attachment on both sides.
The lower arm flexion is fine. The c-clip on the upper arm comes off every time I try and flex it. When I disassembled to see what was up, the c-clips have stress marks already after a test fit!
I'm not a hamhands, and it was just a test fit. Been building since forever. Anyone else have similar problems with the assembly of their mg v2?
>>5943862
Zoids use the old gear system based on the kits released in 1982. Which was supposed to be the high action, mechanized toy phase everything was going through at the time
>>5943866
Thats a known problem with it because iof the use of shitty c koints on ban-ban's part. What i did with mine is sand the inner ring of the c joint a bit to let it fit more easily without stressing further
>>5943866
Bandai's engineering isn't as perfect as everyone makes it out to be. I remember the loto having the same problem amongst some others.
>>5943880
Thanks, just wanted to make sure I'm not retarded. Time to get creative i guess.
Or just glue them and go with a single jointed elbow
>>5943876
>Zoids use the old gear system based on the kits released in 1982
Those are the old Tomy kits.
The HMM line he's asking about specifically is a collectors model line by Kotobukiya that came later. They don't have the motorized gimmick and instead have better and sharper detail and articulation.
>>5943895
Lots of it is simply expectations; I want that Guysniper to look good [as can be expected without an airbrush]. As of right now if I do anything more than a snap and flat the results aren't as I'd like them. I need to sacrifice a few more kits to the plamo gods before I feel confident. That and I understand the HMM line needs a bit more detailing than lower grade Gundams to look decent.
I just finished this guy. I really love all the molded details, I'm going to wash the panel lines on and detail it.
Can someone explain the purpose of the Limb trashbags on the FA Gundam? They seem overtly silly and unnecessary
>>5943988
They may or may not look it but the arms are probably the worst thing about it. The amount of extra faux cloth stuff pushes the arm off the peg and the way the upper arm moves, it makes me think I might break it one day trying to bend it at the elbow.
Overall it's cool but if you're thinking about one, the elbows / arms take a lot of fiddling.
>>5943803
>implying I don't have a shelf system and a jewelry display from Kmart when they went out of business
>>5943711
That's because the justice is shit.
>>5943988
>>5943993
Here is the problem with the arms. As you can see, the shoulder part connecting arm to shoulder is basically a square, it fills up the space of the arm which is just 'fabric.' So the excess fabric ends up pushing the arm off like a spring because the joint's depth isn't deep enough to ensure a really great fit.
I really don't know what they had in mind, I really would've rather had those plastic ones the HG FA Gundam had.
>>5944018
I glue the joints down on around the "cloth" on the FAG. Seems to hold it in place. Also, they made the joints a little better at staying in place with how they designed them
>>5943989
>Can someone explain the purpose of the Limb trashbags on the FA Gundam?
Thunderbolt stuff had cloth covers on the joints. The HG kits had the detail molded onto the joints themselves, but it looks really bad, especially if you didn't seam weld the joints shut (Which was a pain in the ass).
For covered joints stuff like the old Patlabor stuff used rubber, but this limited articulation and was tricky to denub.
So the trashbags were basically the best option.
>>5944018
Why not just cut the extra cloth off?
>>5944041
I'm going to, there's no other way to keep the damn thing on. The shoulder pads keep most of it hidden. I would glue it like the other anon but then I'd end up having to cut it if I couldn't sort out the pieces separating.
I only finished building it 20 mins ago, been messing with it all day. Just wanted to take a pic and be done for the day.

Kinda wish I didn't start painting since it really put a halt at denting this. I even want to get some more kits before attempting some of these.
Part 1/2
>>5944247
Well, first off, it's an older kit, so the engineering likely wouldn't really have been around for it at the time, though I don't know of any modern kits with such backwards articulation.
Second, there aren't really many poses where you really -need- that extreme backwards articulation; the shoulders by themselves without the extra swivel will usually do enough of a job by themselves. The forwards articulation is a necessity for holding the machine gun, for instance, but where would that rearwards articulation really be handy?

>>5944801
It's too top heavy, to counter act this, you need to add heaps of balast, but that puts it low in the water and makes it really easy to capsize. Not to mention you also need to make sure the hull is fully sealed which is not impossible, but difficult.

The large headed Bear Guy is using an SD Acguy's body. The petit Bearguy looks like it's using generic hands off an SD kit. What more do you want?
The dog tags around the neck? That's probably custom shit, dude.
>>5945051
Fug forgot and hit enter.
I got Zaku Amazing, Star Build Strike Plavsky Wing, Zaku 2 High Mobility Type and like every Bearguy so far almost.

also whats up with captcha and billboards?
>>5945127
Is that the HG Zeta? The colors on that really pop out and look amazing.
>>5945160
one of many Zeta variants. Z II
>>5945160
A little to bright for m, but it looks like anon did some custom paint work on it, as I can see the pearlescent finish on the blue
This kit is the biggest pain in my ass. The trash bag limbs are driving me nuts
>>5945172
Huh. I've been hunting for a standard Zeta, that image might have tipped my hand toward buying the HG now.
>>5945197
is it really that bad? I've been putting off finishing it for weeks
>>5945214
Its pretty bad Mr. Pass User. The faux cloth is literally the same material as garbage bags and only thing it accomplishes is making assembly a pain in the ass
>>5945225
Then don't use it? It's not like the joints look bad, they're standard joints from the looks of it
>>5944928
*excited crab noises*
>>5944928
every time I see this thing I can only think of how shitty it looks compared to the RG
>>5945228
Sorta. Taking off the joint tubes make the shoulders look a little weird
>>5945225
Why not just switch it out for some other black material?
>>5945260
Ehh, too much effort. I'd have to find material that I would work with that wouldnt do the same thing to the assembly as the current material, make it the right size and shape, and then disassemble the current parts to redo everything.
Decided it was easiest to just adjust the design slightly to make it where it only covers the shoulders, leaving the elbows free
>>5944313

I'd love to see a Maryland colored z'gok like the stickers but god damn the masking would make me want to kill myself.

>>5945054
Well, damn, I'm sorry if I'm asking questions. I don't mean to sound rude, but the info just doesn't seem right--
The acguy SD legs are stubby, the legs look thinner and have more joints. The arms from the SD kit have no joints apart from a peg, but the one in the image is jointed?
The cuffs for the legs are thinner compared to the cuffs on the SD kit, so it seems as there is more to it. I was just asking if someone would be able to help spot what wasn't mentioned in the image itself.

I've never built military scale models, but those Girls und Panzer kits would be cool.
I only see kits from Platz like in the picture and Fine Molds. How is the quality?
>>5945360

I also finished my Z2. Somewhat not surprisingly, it can't hold the long rifle for shit. Also surprisingly it has an equally hard time holding the regular Zeta beam rifle.

>>5945517
Well it's a military model, so you have to glue it to start. Other than that it's a full paint job with a little highlighting and the only weathering is some brown pigment on the treads and areas low to the ground because in the show the tanks are kept relatively clean.
>>5945541
You have to paint the GuP kits? Fuck me

>>5945610
the HG thunderbolt kits are molded like that
>>5945584
Technically the Man Rodi was the brewers custom MS based on the Rodi Frame. Tekkadan kept a couple, painted them orange, and slapped some new legs onto them so that they can function on land as well as space because they wanted to use them for the Earth branch.
>>5945558
They're traditional military models with a custom decal sheet tossed into a new box.

Finished my first painted model. Pic related.
I fucked up so many times on this I don't know where to begin. Half of the joints I snapped and had to glue back together, so I've lost the ability to pose them (one joint in each knee is fucked, left arm is permanently at a 90 degree bend). I've had peeling issues, had to strip several parts a few times, and perhaps worst of all are those fucking specks of color you can see everywhere. I'm not even sure how those got there since I made sure to paint different colored parts very far away from each other and mostly on separate days. I'm fairly certain they weren't there before I did final assembly, so my best bet is that they're dust from me shaving off the paint from a few connectors so they'll fit for assembly.
But even with all that, I'm happy I've finished her and I'm sort of fond of her.
She was painted with a mix of rattle cans and handpainting with drained gundam markers. I've already ordered an airbrush and compressor for my next projects, I'm not going through this shit again (some of the problems came from me living in a climate that's really bad for spray painting).
>>5946540
>so my best bet is that they're dust from me shaving off the paint from a few connectors so they'll fit for assembly
Dust which I SOMEHOW failed to notice prior to doing the top coat, is what I meant to say. Maybe I was too excited to finally finish that I rushed it and didn't give them a good enough look over first.
>>5946540
How did you break that many joints? You must have been hamming it pretty hard.
>>5946546
Well, I "only" properly broke two joints: one of the hair connectors, which was due to the joint being thickened by paint and then breaking when I tried to adjust it, and the other is the left arm which I did indeed ham hand. The knee joints are fucked due to, again, not paying enough attention to thickening due to the paint. They're not actually broken, they're just stuck so hard they won't budge. I did shave the connectors before fitting the joints, but I guess it wasn't enough.

>>5946546
I snapped one of the joints on one of my FAG as well and it seems to be a common issue when painting them. Some of the joints are really tight out of the box and if you get paint on them and didn't sand them down first it can put too much stress on the joint and crack them apart.
>>5946643
They were designed to be tight to hold up those MSG weapons
>>5946540
>a climate that's really bad for spray painting
What kind of climate? Maybe I've a couple of hints about that.
HOLY SHIT I was able to paint this weekend. I'm down in South FL and its been raining every afternoon for like the past two weeks with humidity up in the 90% or higher. Was finally able to get through the reds, blues and half the whites in the past two days, fuck yeah!
What would be a good Gunpla to turn into a proper gunslinger -pistol(s), serape, generally something I can give spaghetti western styling.
>People who review kits that aren't snap builds
I will never understand this.
>>5946687
Because some people like to see the base they are working with. Esp if your a scale military modeler. Sure, you're probably gonna refine and scrap alot of whats going on, but if you find out a certain mold will save you a lot of work, its not a bad thing.
>>5946692
I think you may have misread my post.
>>5946692
You've completely missed the point of the post you're quoting.
>>5946672
The paint job looks really nice
Can you get a better picture to bask in the details
>>5946702
Will try to this afternoon, I had finally gotten a lot of it done last night and half assembled. Worse yet I seem to be missing the top piece of the head. Gotta do a lot of scrounging around to see if I can't find it. Worst case I have some milliput so and its not the most difficult shape, I may just have to build it myself.
>>5946702
And thanks, the frame is Alclad Airframe Alum, the rest is Tamiya, sky blue, red and white with light grey preshading.
>>5946629
Not really, the thigh pieces came out fine. Why is that a measure of anything though?
>>5946671
Really hot, really humid. Right now it's about 33c out during the day, only dropping to about 23c at the lowest (and that's around 4 AM). Humidity is 60-90% year round, usually 70%ish. I'm just going to avoid spraying outside altogether. I've already bought a spray booth and a mask with the right filters, and I'm going to airbrush everything from primer to top coat. That seems like the easiest way to avoid any guesswork.
She looks a bit better in real life than in the picture, but the defects are still quite noticeable. I'm not happy with it, but I'm not going to strip and redo her or anything (especially given that a lot of parts are stuck or seam welded).
It's motivated me to get better for my next attempts, at the least. I think she'd look pretty okay if it weren't for the paint specks everywhere.

Yeah pretty much, just make sure you get your self a good hobby knife, sand paper, and some nippers, you can pick all those up at most hobby shops or craft stores
What's the difference between the MG Unicorn Gundam OVA versus ver Ka?
>>5946715

>>5946684
Any of the slimmer MS, in general, would work nicely. It's the kind of aesthetic you'll have to build out though, nothing really has a western feel to it.
>>5947053
4cham does that to phone images, you have to edit them to prevent that. Also, do panel line before painting, you model will look far better for it. The guide has some suggestions for materials.
>>5946684
The End Gundam?
>>5947075
The guns and hands, sure; but I don't think you're getting a cowboy out of the full kit.
>>5944234
Any of the Zaku, Gouf or Gelgoog 2.0 kits would suffice like that.
If you're a feddie perhaps wait for the gm sniper 2 or go with something like the jesta
Pretty interesting choice of melee weapons these guys have.
>>5946529
That kit is absolute crapola btw. I'd almost be better off scratchbuilding one.
>>5947000
it takes too long to explain, just buy the OVA ver, not that it matters since the Ver Ka is out of print now anyway. same goes for the Sinanju.
Anyone have any experience with Vallejo polyurethane matte varnish? How good is it? And is it possible to handpaint it, or airbrush only?
>>5947556
I would be interested in this as well. After reading a bit it seems it may be possible if you use the right techniques and other materials that won't interact negatively with this product (finding that out is the hard part). Although the vast majority seem to airbrush it on. And if you have an airbrush already there's almost certainly a better alternative.
>>5947000
OVA version fixes the faulty knees, not like it helped much.
Going through my previous HLJ orders I realize I'm missing a shipment from July 21st of a shitload of system bases. It attempted to be delivered but says refusal and returned. I had cousins staying at my place at that time so I text them asking if they remember a piece of paper at the door or delivery. They say the driver asked if they were expecting a delivery and they said they didn't want anything delivered. So now I have 60$ of stands blowing in the wind either back in nipland or JFK warehouse. I'm pissed I missed it but I did have many smaller packages out at the same time so it flew under my radar.
