Hey guys, been looking for a new typeface and set of blending options to use when I Photoshop the OP images. If anyone wants to post some ideas here (along with a download for the PS file if you don't mind) I'd be open to changing it around.
Right now I use Plavsky with the one named "third" here: https://mega.nz/#!GY0ATKiI
For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build
Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.
Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS
Due Date: November 1st
Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.
For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.

That there Shiki nearly killed a man.
Some evergreen tubes...
Apparently this thing is called the Hugo
Name for this one is out too, it's called Gundam Flauros
And finally the Gundam Vidar.

>Another Skirt Claw Gimmick
Great.
>>5930222
Guess the engineer that made it played Metal Gear as a kid.
Turns out the new "graze" might not be grazes afterall, they're named Geirail, and the Especially armored looking one is a commander type.
>>5930238
It's obviously related to the Graze in some way. A couple of the parts of the frame are the same and they have really similar aesthetics.
I use sandpaper to file nubs but it leaves marks that I don't like. How can I get rid of these marks? Topcoating?
>>5930238
Dat ankle articulation. Mmmmm
Built my other MSS zoid.
These things are pretty nice for how tiny they are. Gave the silver panel lines on black parts thing a try, I like how it came out.
Building my first non-gunpla kit for a diorama piece, and holy shit, the gates and flash is unreal. I'm feeling a bit intimidated about gluing everything together and essentially scratchbuilding the roof. I never realized how babied we are with gunpla.
>>5930246
It's likely the next gen mobilesuit after how much of an ass kicking the graze took against Tekkadan and friends.
>>5930238
I really hope it comes with that weapon so I don't have to get the whole weapon set
what are you waiting on anons?
>>5930278
>how babied we are with gunpla.
I'd say it's less a case of babied and more a case of other companies thinking a half assed product is acceptable.
>>5930071
what's a good exhaust fan for airbrush booths that won't ignite lacquer paints?
>>5930338
You ever talk to modelers who aren't gunpla builders? They don't want hings like colored plastic and stickers. And they even get annoyed if a part is broken into too many small pieces if the part separation doesn't hold some purpose.
That said, huge amounts of flash, giant gates, and having to actually scratchbuild something that really should have been a mandatory part is unacceptable in every modeling community. By the looks of it he's building a scale building from a train company like Walthers. Those are almost always shitily molded.
Shit, I'd been missing out on these 1/100 IBO kits. It's nice to build something simple and solid.
>>5930344
Can't wait to paint up the inner frame.
What's everyone working on this weekend?
Pick related.
>>5930358
Built a HG stargazer while I was at G-Con, since there was fuck all better to do.
Other than that still working on this piece of shit arteme gundam. It's a full resin kit but the casting is so bad I've scrapped most of it and just used it like a conversion kit with a HG GN-Archer.
>>5930342
It's a DPM model, it looks, and alright, I feel better thinking this is just dumb. I just sanded all the edges, but these thick ass gates in the middle of windows are bullshit. I thought it was a Chinese KO thing, but everything needs to be sanded to fit proper too since pretty much nothing is straight. I don't think I'll ever complain about older Bandai stuff after this is done.
>>5930358
I guess it would be this. Gonna be a few hours chiseling away at these gates.
>>5930396
Just pretend they're aircos
>>5930272
How experienced are you and how hard was this to assemble?
>>5930408
That's honestly not a bad idea. I wish I considered that before starting this, but I just risked breaking the surrounding by gouging them out with my cheap nippers seeing how little chiseling was getting me. I'm glad I kept my first old nippers for something like this.
>>5930414
I've been snapping stuff for a really long time, but I've only started trying to do anything more than that for maybe a year or so.
The kit isn't really any more difficult than a high grade aside from some of the parts being really small. The hoses required some fiddling to get in place though. The pieces are partially prepainted/decaled on the runners.
>>5930260
Make sure to slowly rise up in sandpaper numbers. So something like 600->1000->2000 would work fine, as an example. With a slow progression you alleviate those scratch marks and then topcoat hides the rest. Be sure to wet sand also, it helps get less plastic dust in the air.
>>5930222
No sir, I don't like it.
>>5930071
Do 3M 6001 filters provide adequate protection against the fumes from rattle-cans?
>>5930320
usually if the weapons displayed on the kit it's gonna be included.
Yo Baltimore bro, is this new one yours or another dude who goes to hobbyworks? I swung by today and saw they moved some stuff around, guess I missed the gunpla sale looking from the shape of the stock.
Could someone tell me about the quality of 1/144 kapool, mobile suit flat, mobile sumo silver, AEU 09 (demonstration), union flag, smultron, mobil bucue remaster, danazine, loto twin, gaddess, dom r35, catsith, dra-c, asshimar, doven wolf, super zaku f2000, gaplant, gundam the end, G3 gundam + char's dom, and last of all zssa unicorn version.
With zssa, does it use stickers for all of the red missile tips or are they red plastic?
Thanks!
>>5930478

I'm guessing they won't do grunts back to back so the next MG after the GM sniper 2 has to be a gundam. Crossing my fingers for Ez8 2.0
>>5930465
It's the winner of the 1/100 category, not mine (I didn't win anything).
>>5930489
Well yours is still the best looking in the shop. Better luck next year tho, look forward to seeing it.
>>5930498
I'm actually not attending next year. Starting to feel too old and out of place surrounded by all the teenagers at the con. I'm going to just do the online entry instead.
>>5930229
That looks fuckin cool.
Well this is great. I'm missing the part that connects shield to arm for my MCModel Hi-Nu and it's impossible to replace. Any ideas? For reference, HG Unicorn/Banshee has a similar attachment but the 'bracket' part is too small.
barbatos looks more and more like shit with each passing day
Reposting from /m/. Willing to sell or trade (looking for UC suits if trading, MG or HG). Please mail me if you're interested at [email protected]. Thanks to whoever cares, and happy building!
>>5930342
>they even get annoyed if a part is broken into too many small pieces if the part separation doesn't hold some purpose
Okay, what else do the crusty old modellers say? I know a fair amount don't use primer or safety gear.
>>5930396
Try drilling holes into the edges/corners of the gates to make them easier to remove. You can then start cutting from those holes or something.
I was this close to selling off my influx which I bought impulsively and then I saw this pose it can make.
>>5930640
I don't recognize those rifles its holding. Are these scratchbuilds + resin casts?
>>5930644
just looked in the box, it comes with them.
*wipes sweat off forehead*
>>5930618
That's also another really good idea. I'll do that next time if I do something like this again since I was able to remove them and sanded them down already. I don't know why I didn't think of that, but thanks!
what colours are you boys painting your MG GM Sniper II's in

>>5930071
Howdy ho fellow plamo fans! I was wondering if I could get some opinions on fixing what appears to be a common issue on the HG Shaldoll Custom I'm working on. The ball joints on the front skirts are terribly lose after separating them into individual pieces. I've attempted to reinforce them with a coat of Future floor polish, but it seems the gap is too great for that to make a difference. Does anyone here have any low-tech, low-cost remedies to this situation?
>>5930465
Hobbyworks? Which one?
>>5930780
I believe I used some sticky tac when I did my Build Shaldoll a while back.
>>5930780
Drill through them in such a way that you can glue the end of a section of paperclip into one, then slide it into the other so they support one another.
>>5930781
Belair.
It's a nice store. Staff are friendly, a couple of the younger guys are casual gunpla builders, most of the stuff in the display cases are military stuff and that's the bulk of their stock but they have an entire aisle for gunpla and keep it stocked pretty well since they know it sells.
Good selection of paints too.
>>5930790
Ah, I was hoping you'd say Rockville. I don't live nearby, but I used to, and my childhood best friend is their inventory guy.
>>5930799
I was actually just at the rockville store today. I honestly don't like that store too much. Their stuff tends to be a couple bucks higher than the Laurel and Belair stores and they don't have as much stock either. I think the worst was when they were charging for those sticker decal sets a year back that were supposed to be free with HG purchases.
>>5930805
Wouldn't know, myself. I've only been in there once, about 6 years ago. And I got to use his employee discount.

Dark Matter Exia, Hi-Nu Vrabe, Try Burning Gundam, Gundam X Maoh, Gundam Portent
+ 2015 HG Customize Campaign part E (blade/gun)
I can also throw in part D (hand missile tubes) if you like, I opened it but decided not to use it.
I'm not really considering shipping internationally since I don't know how to do that, unless there is some definite interest in the entire set.

Day 2 of Connect4con2016, anyone got pictures, because there is fuck all I can find online.
I'm here now, there's literally fuck all to post anon. Less people than yesterday, I'm sat here building and waiting for them to judge the contest so I can get the duck outta here.
>>5931160
Only see like 8 people and it's called a convention..That's sad.
The size difference didn't really hit me until I put an RG z'gok next to the RG wing. King Krabs would wreck all the tiny edgy wing suits like they are GM's. Z'gok is love Z'gok is life.

Here's a question for you guys.
Say I wanted to open a store and start selling Gundam kits.
What kits would you guys like to see in that store?
Keep in mind that "normies" who may or may not know what a gundam is may be walking in and purchasing a kit.
And whether or not you have owned, built or oggled that kit is of no concern to me.
Like those kits that you see in a store and think "This place is pretty legit."
Basically I just need a list of good starter kits to get a business rolling.
I have a person who is willing to invest in my business venture so I need to compile a price point to show him to get this going.
I believe in my area that there is a market for kits and it is being hella ignored.
I was thinking at the very least getting a few Revive RX-78's, a few Origin kits, a few IBO kits, stands for HG's, and gundam markers to start off. Possibly getting small all in one tool kits to also keep on hand if someone doesn't have the tools already.
Perhaps starting off with only HG's to keep the initial price low and if anyone asks about MG's, RG's or PG's I can attempt to get them but only on pre-pay order until the business takes off.
Also cross posting to the /m/ general for maximum amount of advice.
Thoughts?
>>5932664
You don't get much of a choice, you bend over to bluefin and bandai's restock schedules
>>5932664
You don't open a store just because you like model kits.
Where do you plan on opening and are you going solo? Have you done research on the market demographics in your area? Is there enough people in your region to sustain your costs? Asking our opinion is not representative of what you'll experience. Whats the scale of your shop like? Have you figured out logistics? Are you ready to lose it all and end up worse than you started?
>>5932664
You're better off opening an "anime stuff" store if you want to actually make money.
A purely plamo store wouldnt really work unless you delve into traditional model kits like armor and cars and sci-fi kits.

>It's also ahead of schedule.

>>5932998
Don Quixote was the story of a delusional man who comes to beleive himself to be a knight on a quest to revive chivalry. A famous part of the book is him attacking windmills because he beleives them to be Giants.
Fighting/chasing Windmills is an idiom for conducting pointless actions, typically through misperceptions of a goal or enemy.

Seen heaps of anons with RG MK-IIs in their pics and praise of how excellent the frame is, so I popped in the local store and bought it today.
Another question, how do you sharpen nippers? One of my excellent nippers got a busted spring so I had to go back to my other one from Japan. I heard aluminum foil sharpens it but I dont understand how that should even work.

Got my shipment in today! Psychogundam, full armor MG, so many beautiful decals, and parts C and D for the 2016 parts campaign. I know the psycho gundam is massive but I was surprised when the box is bigger than even the full armor. Can't wait for the full armor "hunger" to come in.

Since when was there an overwhelming desire from people for ZZ stuff?
This doesn't make any sense.
As someone who was introduced to Gunpla with a gifted RG Zaku II (Shamefully only partially completed even now.) but enjoys HG kits, sans painting and water transfers, would I be getting over my head if I considered picking up pic related? Have the Titans HG and love it, my building confidence is also decent after building the HG Kampfer and Gouf Custom. Anyway, thoughts or opinions?

>>5932681
Excellent questions.
Definitely not going solo, there is a new FLGS going up in my town and the to-be owner said he would be willing to invest in me to get stock and sell it at his store.
I have not done research on the demographics in my area, but according to the last anime store that was in town, which shut down due to rent spiking into unreasonable heights, the demographic is quite active and definitely there.
As for the population to sustain cost, I believe there is enough, however as I said in the original post I want to start small and work up if it takes off.
Good point, but it was more a question of what kits sell and look good to have in stock.
Small mom and pop shop is about how big it will be, but we will be the only FLGS in the entire county and the neighboring county's as well.
I have not figured out logistics and was going to get back to my investor with that after I got an idea from you guys about what kits would sell.
I am willing to lose it, because I will be working for the guy who will invest in me, so the worst that happens if I have to eat my stock is work until I don't owe him.
>>5932752
Only problem with that is the Gundam kits were the only thing that regularly sold from the last anime store in town.
DVD's/Blu-ray's, figures, and other merch that was not a obvious hot ticket item sat around doing nothing.
However, to counter act that this new store going up will be a 40k and Magic store, so I have no worries about if the Gundam looks out of place.
>>5933015

>>5933724
I have the Packard Gouf Custom, built it a year or two ago. That Gouf was just in my backlog which has been sitting untouched since 2015 I think? Backlog is now down to a SD Sazabi, standard HG Gyan, Standard HG Zaku I and finishing my RG Zaku II.

So I am just curious how most people here view dalong's MG scores in terms of accuracy? Take for example the recent MG Full Armor Thunderbolt review. Dalong gave it a pretty average score while other reviewers like gaijin gunpla sang its praises.

And if I wasn't working on this GM Cannon II still I'd be working on making my SD Devil Gundam for the group build, or rather working on making it look nice. I don't think I'd be able to win but still.

Considering an attempt at my first customized UC mass produced suit. Is the Zaku II overused for those sort of things? Really tempted here guys. While I have not watched Zeta, I really am drawn to the suits in the series. What little I know about it is from DW:Gundam 1-3, but having that foot tall, towering monster of a mobile suit/armor sounds too good to be true. Anyone around here happen to own it?
When painting with clear colors, can you say paint one layer blue and the next red to make purple? Or am I better off mixing purple beforehand?

which version is best? I'm leaning toward Sinaju Stein but the Ver Ka Sinaju is really eye catching for some reason. Also I've heard there's a really shiny version, do not want

They're mostly the same frame and come with comparable accessories so it just comes down to looks I think. Stein is better looking IMO.
