Monthly Building Challenges:
>Summer's almost over - make a scene with your sigfig enjoying the last days of the season!
>Bonkle is dead. Build something that uses parts specifically meant for Bionicle.
>Make a police MOC. Be sure to include some ineffectual chasing with handcuffs.
>Brickheadz are stupid. Let's revive Cubedudes! Build a Cubedude to show their superiority over Brickheadz!
>The 2016 Paralympics are on in Rio. Create a MOC or scene showing that minifigs that are broken, damaged or missing parts can still be the best!
>Create a new tribe of mixels.

Minidoll. Hagrid and other old bigfigs. Several of Duplo-figs. Fabuland. Star wars-droids. Exo-Force/Bionicle/Hero Factory. Minecraft mobs. Rock Monsters from Power Miners and Scurries from Nexo.
>>
>>5899099

I was more thinking of stuff that doesn't use too many, if any, classic minifig parts. Woody and Faun (and the snakelegs and such) could technically count, but I don't know.

Decided to make this pic for shits and giggles. I've highlighted every series that contains some reference to some licensed IP.

If I recall correctly there used to be only three or four licence series being sold at a time back in the day.

What happened? Does Lego have to fall prey to the aglomeration of industry under a select few owners too?

Is there any sort of unspoken etiquette policy regarding large orders of low value pieces from Brick Link?

I ask because, after going 14 years without, I recently got back into Lego and am in desperate need of a massive amount of small, generic pieces (1x2 bricks, 1x3 tiles, 2x2 plates - that sort of thing) and it seems like Brick Link is infinitely cheaper than just buying one of those Creative buckets or boxes.

Thing is, I'm completely out of the loop as far as purchasing Lego is concerned and, personally, it feels a little dickish of me to order several hundred pieces from some guy who's going to have to pick, count and package it all, only for it all to come to a couple quid in value.

Am I just being overly cautious?
>>
>>5899604
Some stores actually prefer to sell them in large quantities, they even give you a better price if you do.
>>
>>5899604
When they have multiple hundreds of the same pieces it's probably their job so I wouldn't care.

Used pieces have less clutch power or could break depending on how they were treated, the creative boxes are still working out at like 3 to 5 cent per piece so the mark up on some of the sets is more like an insurance that you get factory fresh topware but that really is negligible.

The worst you can do to Bricklink ellers is making one piece orders of like under 1 bucks. I don't know how many I have gotten of those and it makes no sense, it was never something really rare and shipping would push the price for these people up so high that ordering somewhere else should be preferable.

i've been wanting to build a mech plant for awhile, this is my first full scale mock up.
i realize now it needs to be much larger, but it does feature rough drafts of the idea in my mind.
i want the limbs to each have 3 main segments mounted to pistons that are flush with the wall so they can be moved inwards to the chassis, which is on rails. i have 2 cabinets here, i need more, they look good wall mounted.
this is the first structure i've ever moc'd. i have a new respect for all building builders.

Just received my first BrickLink order! It's...Ok, I guess.

one item was completely missing (a set of 8 technic pins) and one of the round open-stud pieces I ordered was actually a lipless, closed stud piece that refuses to connect to anything via it's stud.

I've raised these issues with the seller, and I'll likely use BrickLink again but it's definitely put a bit of a damper on things. Are these kind of issues common?
>>
>>5900760
Depends, always check the amount of orders placed by other users and check ratings. You shouldn't have a problem if you order from more frequent popular sellers.

I got burned badly by not checking them, it's incredibly easy for them to scam you or rip you off

What's a decent number to look for? The guy I bought from had a 98.something % approval with 9500 pieces of feedback.
>>
>>5900769
Ideally 100% at all times, be very strict about this

But judging by the number of feedback and orders something must have went wrong with the order, wait for a response desu.

has the number of sets offered at a time gone up over the years?

Lego can't really do much about it if they put out things that tank. i'm sure they'd love it if monster fighters and that random unlicensed dino series had done well enough to continue on their own instead of being replaced by scooby and Jurassic world. Or if the classic castle and unlicensed pirate revivals hadn't tanked.

I feel like the only thing directly murdered for competing with a license is probably classic space vs star wars. even then, I have a feeling nexo knights is warhammery enough to scratch the scifi itch for some people.

Oddly enough, I've gotten more mistakes when I've ordered from big stores with thousands of feedback, whereas the smaller ones always have everything.

But as a seller myself, I can sorta understand. Big ones are, well, big. They don't have time or drive to make sure every order is good to go when they have ten more waiting. If you're small and get like one order a week, you think of them differently.

Or maybe it's just me, who knows

I assume promo bags that don't get given away with the promo are put on pegs after the promo period has ended.

I usually see regular poly bags out by the registers at targets and most TRU lego isles.

It's luck of the draw on promo ones, depending on how well the sale goes. That's my assumption anyway. I've never seen that Wyldstyle one, but have seen others.

Someone needs to remind this retard that just because he isn't specifically buying sets with wizards in it, it doesn't change the fact that he's giving money to a company to approves of and profits from depictions of witchcraft and wizardry, which is just as bad.

Maybe if he actually gave a shit about his religion, instead of just following whatever he's told to, he'd know this.

Only after seeing the later two prequels as mentioned before i thought about how weird it was for Lego to make a set about such a gruesome part of the movie.

Honestly, I wouldn't want a store this big for that. Might incorporate a smaller cup store in a later build, for you. I tend to make like one of these half-attempts at a modular every week, so it's definitely coming.

Cinema may look impressive on the outside, but it's pretty barren on the inside. I do like the lobby at least. Fuck that stupid car, though.

Bank is impressive build both on the inside and outside, but I do personally think that green-grey-white color scheme is a bit ugly, and it feels a bit too cramped for my taste.

Cinema retires earlier and is cheaper at least in Europe.
>>
>>5903041

One time I got multiple sets in one delivery

So I poured all the brix out into two piles, spread out the instructions and built both AT THE SAME TIME WHILE LISTENING TO VENETIAN SNARES' "WINNIPEG IS A FROZEN SHITHOLE"

Do exactly what I did you fucking aboulomaniac
>>
>>5903058
Oh, and the absolute, utter worst thing in Cinema is that it's the only modular to use stickers.

At least you can replace one of the movie posters on the wall with Lego Movie-poster but those sheets are pretty expensive on their own
>>
>>5903058
>it's pretty barren on the inside
>it feels a bit too cramped
I wonder if Lego will ever address these problems for such and Idea sets.
I know they can't make everything fit the minifig scale, or super detailed 100% accurate, also more pieces means higher prices, but sometimes it feels like they're not even trying.
>>
>>5903064
The Bank wouldn't even be that bad, but I just feel that the laundromat is tacked on just to get that joke about money laundring in. I get why they did that, Lego is a toy after all. Play features are important. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

Then again, I like Detective's Office which is literally a giant playfeature but what do I know. At least there is technically two different buildings so it works a bit better.

There's something weird about technic people.

System? fuck yeah spaceships! cars! mechs! awesome shit!

Technic? here is my giant combine harvester that really works it harvests miniature wheat and next I'll build a scale accurate version of some mining equipment so obscure when you google it you just find pictures of the lego model

I don't get it.
>>
>>5903314
Technic isn't limited to obscure stuff most importantly, it's not limited to boring pre-made stuff with parts designed for one purpose for that specific model that shows on the package.

When I was 12-14 I made self-made 4x4 vehicles with live axles and V8 with three gears and reverse.
I made working shredder machines, pneumatic(used water to mimic hydralic and keep pressure) pressing machines and lifters and platforms.

Not only that Technic isn't limited to other Technic, you can use LEGO system along with it, as proven by this person >>5898792

A pack of sticky-tack and a few sheets of colored posterboard is less than ten bucks, but it really spruces up your pictures.

I have packing tape on the back corners of all my backdrops, so I can use sticky-tack and not have it tear off bits of paper when I switch skies.

I also have large sheets of white and black cloth that I use for stuff like the land beyond, where I need to shoot a higher angle than a regular piece of posterboard can provide. Those have to be held up with thumb tacks, but luckily there are nail holes in both frames at just the right height.

The possibilities are endless with either technic or system. I personally combine both when I build to some degree, as I find technic great for features like steering and suspension (pic related).

I-I'M NOT SORRY

Be careful because what I'm about to ask may blow your mind.

What if.... people don't have the same interests as you, and building a working engine is not what they want to do?

Why even care?

hurrr durrr this company sucks because they make toys aimed for children, their main source of income, instead of me, one lonely guy who thinks that is smart because can build stuff without insturctions
Easy there, we don't wanna be ooverqualified for NASA

LEGO has made a name for themselves through the decades, even if their quality has decreased, the name stands. Kids know them, kids want them. When the times were darkest, it was licensed sets and child appealing, aesthetically pleasing sets who got them through those times
Is Technic good? sure it was, but it's basically dead and doesn't sell because times evolve, it's not the company's fault if you can't do that as well
Face it, toys are not aimed to you anymore, kids want TLM and Superheroes sets

oooo! a LEGO engine! That is useful! ABS plastic is really kjnown to withstand friction and is way better than alloys in every way

>>5903438
>you try to make it so that your sad "creations" aren't as shit by comforting yourselves
Funny, because that's actually what you are doing, trying to feel superior because you build "working" replicas of engines and machines
tell me more about its superior use in real life

Lego Technic isn't the highest Lego building level.
Mixing System, Technic, CBBS and Duplo in one amazing MOC is.

you don't know shit about colours m8

I know that weird pink purple hybrid combines with lime, I love that combo, specially for psychedelic shit, but in LEGO it doesn't work
>>
>>5903438
So, my technic-minded friend, how about you post some of your technic MOCs? Show us some of that creativity you got.

>inb4 look how awesome is that, a working steering! Exactly the same as in every technic car ever!

>>5903484
Indeed I do. It lit up a little bit. Which tails are those in your pic?

>Ready-made LEGO kits
>LEGO Technic
Hold on, does this person think that Technic sets don't make specific builds and System sets can physically only be built according to the instructions? Because that's what I'm getting.
>>5903453
>pre-made
See, you keep using that term. What the fuck is that even supposed to mean?

>See, you keep using that term. What the fuck is that even supposed to mean?
I think he means specialized pieces like bike chassis, etc.

Obi-Wan and Anakin were supposed to be buried under a crane that looked like that, they changed it to a big pillar later.

Don't forget that Chima, Mixels and Bonkles don't really count since they have been (or will be, in the case of Mixels) put down.
>>
>>5901611
Most religious folks pick-and-choose what does and doesn't count. You shouldn't think too deeply about what religious people believe because it varies greatly.
