Monthly Building Challenge:
Your challenge this month is to create a /pol/-inspired MOC depicting whatever atrocities/happenings August brings.
>>
>>5861727
They're grey-haired because thirty years passed, right? That's ... brilliant. And kinda sad.
I need to stop crying at toys.
>>
>>5861727
This is a fucking great MOC
>>
>>5861745
>I need to stop crying at toys.
We're not crying. It's just raining, is all.
>>
Weak bait, famalam.
Still 50 images to go.
>>
I asked in the last thread but i didnt get any replies, so ill ask here.

What are some good, non-official combinations of technic sets? like custom builds or such? Ive got a $50 amazon gift card, im just getting back into building, and i want the most brick for my money, I'm planning on putting it on a display shelf so i prefer looks over "playability". i have two big rubbermaid tubs full of mostly regular legos that im sorting through, so i wanted something different than the usual sets
>>
>>5861813
It's super weird, people are so desperate to make new threads that they'll make them 50 images and 5 catalog pages too soon. All because they're under the insane idea that that being the op is somehow a great privilege. It must be a reddit or a /vg/ thing, because I'll never understand it.
>>
>>5861727
Can someone please explain this MOC to me?
What is going on?
Also, why is Blacktron man dead?
>>
>>5861825
its actually a livejournal thing
>>
>>5861825
That thread turned to shit anyway.
>>
>>5861825
Oh, and you didn't even experience the cringe that is watching the OP of the new thread being a fag by wasting the image limit with garbage pics just so he can push the new thread sooner.
I am aware that these threads are fast by /toy/ standards, but come on.

>>5861827
Apparently it's a "Where are they now?" with members of the old space factions (Ice Planet, M-Tron and SPIII)
>>
>>5861827
The two minifigs sitting are from the M:Tron and Ice Planet 2002 lines. The Blacktron Future Generation minifig is possibly based on a joke in one of the catalogs from the early 1990s.
>>
>>5861834
Explain. We were still having a conversation. Then this assplugged faggot shit it all up.
>>5861843
>watching the OP of the new thread being a fag by wasting the image limit with garbage pics just so he can push the new thread sooner.
Oh God, I remember that retard. He literally outright admitted to shitting up his own thread with images to "buff it up against the competition" because he was so fucking butthurt that somebody else beat him to it.

Weak thread, OP.
>>
>>5861843
Don't forget about the autists who feel the need to throw a temper-tantrum in the new thread instead of just acting like grown-ups.
>>
>>5861856
Thats why ive made it my mission to go waste whats left of the image limit everytime if its ten or lower images left. But if there really are 50 slots left, fair enough, I wont do it.

Guys still a fucking faggot for coming in every new thread recently with

>"NOOOOOOOOOO, THERES 3 IMAGE SLOTS LEFT, REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

Who fucking cares, just use the new thread.
>>
>>5861867
There's a difference between 3 image slots left and 50, you nimrod.
>>
NOOOOOOOOOO, THERES 43 IMAGE SLOTS LEFT, REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>5861870
Considering the last ten or so threads have featured that fuck reeeeeeeeing over ten or less slots left, this is an outlier, which is why I said fair enough.

And honestly, again, who gives a shit? Are people ruining the special snowflake board culture? That thread also has replies in the red and was just on page 5 when I checked.

But whatever, ive learned that half the people in these threads are just contrarians and "rate this set by what the fuck ever" posts.
>>
Will Lego ever release a bus as a stand-alone set?

I've got bus station signs and benches up the ass and the only buses they make come with expensive city center type sets.
>>
>>5861870
>There's a difference between 3 image slots left and 50, you nimrod.
Yeah, the difference is that the thread with 3 image slots left is autosaging and on page 5, while the thread with 50 image slots left is autosaging and on page 5.

I was extremely close to buying the last death star set since I didn't have one yet and like 3 days before I ordered one on Amazon some employee at the lego store told me a new one is coming. I'm relieved to hear that its basically just a slightly updated version of the last one, displaying the interior etc. instead of a bland, giant 400 dollar grey ball. I imagine all the people that bought all the sets up before they retired are gonna lose a shitload of money now.

Unless you're really super gay for Revan I'd say don't even bother. No one single minfigure is worth that much money in my opinion. You can get a lot of pieces or even a halfway decent set with that kinda money. Either buy a knockoff or live without.

1) Buying LEGO at, say, 50 % off then selling it for a bit less than RRP

2) Buying LEGO sets then selling parts of it on Ebay (for example buying superhero sets then selling the builds and keeping the minifigs)

>>
>>5862728
>Is there a better feeling?
Finding out that the retarded obscure piece you're using actually exists in the color you're using it in? That's a pretty great feeling too.

Honestly though, lego just needs to bite the bullet and give us what builders we've wanted for years. Plates with studs on both sides. All these insane workarounds are getting out of hand.
>>
>>5862752
I disagree with this. The way Lego bricks are, measurement wise, makes such bricks inherently difficult to implement. A connection like you suggest seems like it'd "break the system" and be illegal by merit of never being able to quite measure up with other bricks.

I actually remember seeing some bricks like what you suggest made by a third party, with versions that had both all-male and all-female sides. The guy who posted them said he didn't actually find use for them very often IIRC.

Mega Bloks did it well over a decade ago- a 2x2 plate with studs on both sides. Most fucking brilliant thing ever, and all the Chinese companies have copied it since then in varying quality/sizes (including the bastard ones that are 1/2 a plate thick or so), so I think Lego probably never will.

>temper tantrum
I don't recall. It also wasn't just the image. It was the lack of proper OP. He stripped out all necessary /lg/ shit. The first post was the "adults rating playability" bullshit. hey guys, I need some advice;
at a local store (which has very few lego) they had pic related for 16 $ and the Rey Buildable SW figure for 11 $.
It caught my eye being really cheap and want to buy them to sell them on ebay after. On bricklink (where people usually know their stuff when it comes to LEGO) I couldn't make much money off the Crooks Island, but on amazon, holy fuck.... it goes for 150$ for whatever stupid reason... Should I buy them for selling? What do you think?
>>
>>5863088
Do you really believe anyone would buy that for 150 dollars?

The RRP is 30 bucks, so 16 is a good price. That said, you probably won't be able to sell it for that much more since it's still available in more stores. I could see you selling it for like 20, that's less than 4 dollars profit considering ebay fees etc.

Your choice.
>>
>>5863097
On bricklink, the most expensive sealed one is around 45 bucks
>>
>>5863118
Yeah, but it's still on Bricklink because no one is going to pay that for some bullshit set with no special pieces.
>>
Buying and selling lego sets is kind of a pain the the ass. The only time it's really worth it is if you get stuff around 75 percent off or you end up with a few "ultra rare" sets that you can sell for 5 to 10 times the MSRP.

For instance, I bought the construction mech from the lego movie on clearance for 40 bucks. I held onto it for about a year. I just sold it for 90. After fees and shipping I got 70.It was not really not worth it to make 30 bucks.
>>
>>5863118
I can put a turd on ebay for 45 bucks. Doesn't mean anyone is going to buy it.
>>
>>5863129
The only thing I bother to post in Ebay are minifigs. People spend stupid money on figs. I sold a Trickster for 20 bucks which was all profit since I nabbed it off of a Target floor.
>>

I'd buy off that Vikings ship, Western Fort, Classic Castle off you immediately, but even that would probably be my threshold. Face it anon, nobody's going to buy all that in bulk. If you want to sell me those three, you can email me and we can negotiate a price, if you're able to find all the pieces. [email protected]

The problem here is that since you're trying to sell in bulk, there's no way for you to guarantee you have all the proper parts of each set to complete them, and there's no way of proving it.

Why can't Lego get away from licensing and go back to creating original themes?

It's what generates profit. I'm at peace with them because if it wasn't for licensing we wouldn't have any Lego now.

Maybe it's my perspective after coming back to collecting so recently that I'm unfamiliar with the feeling of seeing a rehash of a set I already own. But from what I've seen, some of them are an improvement over the originals, so I don't really see what's the problem unless you make a profit from reselling sets or minifigs from sets that do get a rehash years later.

>>
>>5863728
Sadly I suck at that, any of the purple colors maybe then? Though I did look at the dark purple parts on Bricklink and had quite a few different type of pieces, thoug I haven't went through all 10 pages yet.
>>
>>5863707
True, I just miss the original themes like Aquazone, Blacktron, Ice Planet, etc.

They came kinda close to replicating it a few years ago with the Space Police revival theme, though a lot of those sets were pretty crappy. Back arounr 2005-2010 or so there were a lot of good original lego themes, like Dino, Exo-Force, Power Miners, Agents, Atlantis, Mars Mission, etc.

Oh, forgot about Galaxy Squad, another decent theme that had an extremely short run.

The entire point of Lego is to be creative and come up with your own creations, ideas, etc. Licensing just defeats the entire purpose, though I understand how it kept Lego afloat when they were about to go under.

I still wish lego comes back to gvie another try with a new Space theme. Galaxy Squad was not bad but I miss having more of an exploration theme instead of combat for space settings.
Not sure how well is Nexo Knights being received but if they are doing well, maybe it will put some confidence to them and start another in-house theme that is not Ninjago. Not that I have any problem with the latter though.
>>
>>5863750
Ninjago has some neat looking sets, but at the end of the day it's basically become just another licensed theme.

I agree about the exploration theme though, a return to classic space would be a lot of fun.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that awesome Egypt theme that came out a few years ago, and Monster Fighters of course. Lego definitely still has the capacity to make good original themes, it's just they choose not to pursue it because it's not profitable anymore.

I think they find it more profitable to only do one series of an original theme. Monster Fighters for example had some really good sets, but a few that were worth passing up, but since there was only one wave people went ahead and bought all of them because they knew that was all there was going to be. If LEGO would have released a second series people might not have bought as much.

Why does the ideas submission always look hundreds of times better than the finished product?
>>
>>5864999
Ideas submission is typically a MOC with whatever the builder likes in it
Mass-production models are always going to be more limited, both by parts selection available and by changes in building methods.
>>
>>5864999
One is made by some guy with no restrictions, the other one has to bend over to Lego's budget, connection and safety standards.
>>
>>5864999
>Why does the ideas submission always look hundreds of times better than the finished product?
The reason why the Exo-Suit astronaut minifigs have green torsos is because the only colors of torsos that Lego was producing at the moment were white, red, and green.

I'm probably completely retarded, but this should be about in scale with those larger scale vehicles lego has been putting out in the last few years, right?

I have been obsessed with Lego Batman for the past month now. I have gone as far as making a bat-tank and turning the new Ninjago tumbler into a vehicle for Mr. Freeze. I would really like to build a motorcycle for Robin that looks like the one from Batman and Robin (yes, that one) I need a jumping off point, anyone have any pics of similar designs?

I haven't had a single Lego in over 15 years and recently got interested into buying a few.

Seen the CLASSIC Ghostbusters Ecto-1 for 50 bucks on Amazon. Is it worth it? It looks great on photos, but you never know with Lego.
>>

Well, I do like the classic Ghostbusters.

Jestro's lair is a castle. Fortrex I included in vehicles since that is what it is, tower is library, and I didn't mention the little lava outpost which is kinda nice. As far as vehicles go, there's only 3 classic siege machines and they are all lava monster builds, everything else is more of a golem or space-theme vehicle.
I think Elves makes for a better castle theme since it is all buildings and terrain with only a few vehicles and dragons, but unfortunately doesn't come with anything in the way of knights or siege weapons.
Try combining the two for interesting results

That was the point. UCS sets get released and then left on the market for years, not months. Later releases of 10188 actually "updated" several of the minifigs by replacing the old pre-2010 pupilless heads with 2010+ pupiled heads.

Ziploc bags full of smaller Ziploc bags. General pieces are sorted by type and sub-type (the "Hinges" bag has a bag full of click hinges, brick hinges, horizontal plate hinges, vertical plate hinges, etc.; the "Long Stuff" bag has bags of Technic rods, long and short antennae, Technic axles, etc.)

Bricks are sorted by color, except all the 1x1 bricks are in their own bag.

Plates are sorted by type.

Other stuff is grouped by theme (all the pirate boat hulls in one bag; rigging, rowboats, cannons, etc. in another bag).

Baseplates are all in a stack in their own drawer.

I've got three variants of these Sterilite drawer units, but they're completely full and the tops all have piles of stuff on them right now, so I need to get at least one more.
