Guys, don't bother buying from legos site

I wouldnt mind being a delivery driver, sounds super slack considering my package was a 10 minute drive away 2 days ago

maskmaker anon with some news - I've found a new type of plastic which will likely work very nicely. However, pic related -- I'm may have to buy a proper gas mask (like the kind painters use). Gonna set me back another $30. There's always something else...

The star wars shoulderpad was the easiest thing I've made so far. Pegs hold quite nicely, despite my previous apprehensions. Not quite as much as the regular ABS, but it has a good bit of friction. Also sorry to say I'm going to be delayed a while... Getting all my shit together.

The new stuff (Smooth-On Smooth Cast 30) is much more thin when pouring compared to the "Amazing Mold Products" stuff, which is nice. I haven't tried yet but I'm also expecting it to hold dye color better.

I think I'm going to make an OC character - a heretical maskmaker who died because of his carelessness when handling materials.
>>
>>5851549
Oh and I have a dremel now, so I should be able to make the edges and insides of smaller holes quite smooth.
>>
>>5851540
When our Moupanon finishes his Shapeways mask, you should buy one, clean it up, and cast a mold from it. Then experiment with gold plastics if possible.

I will buy that shit in a heartbeat, name your price. 4Chan will collectively produce the perfect forbidden mask replica, and it will be glorious.

>>5851549
I just casted a star wars shoulder with the new stuff with little casual disregard to my own health and safety.

I hope the picture shows it - the mask is alumilite to compare. Neither have any dye in them, and the smooth on stuff not only hardens faster, it also is a brighter white and is somewhat stronger.

So I'm moderately hyped about this and also now have a headache.

>>5851559
I'm not sure how to do smooth metallic colors yet, but there's gotta be a way somewhere. It's going to be great.
>>
>>5851572
Stay safe, buddy. You're a treasure.
>>
this is probably a dumb question, but how do you guys clean off bonkles?

my room sucks dicks and gets a ton of dust while the rest of the house doesn't. I dont want to take a bunch of time to wipe them down or something
>>
>>5851590
I personally still fuck around with wet wipe tissues but I should do what others have said and just wash them off.
>>
>>5851597
just run em under water eh? i dont know why i didnt think of that.
>>
>>5851590
Probably will have to the first time. I quickly go over mine with a can of air every few weeks. If I wait too long between cleanings, then the dust gets too heavy for the can of air and then I have to brush them off manually.
>>
>>5851590
rubbing alcohol cleans off plastic really nicely but I suspect it might weaken Lego's plastic. It's what I use to clean my keyboard keys every so often, anyway.
>>
>>5851606
Just don't forget to dry them off with a towel or something.
>>
>>5851621
I think I used rubbing alcohol to try get rid of a print on a piece and it shit on the plastic

>>5851623
im worried about the little parts that i cant hit with towel, i'd really like to avoid having to dismantle them. maybe i should stop being lazy

>>
>>5851590

According to some leaks, Nexo next year will have Action-sets. Could it be CCBS?
>>
>>5851866
It's abridged, though. Lame, I got excited for a second. I thought somebody had typed out all 20 something Bionicle books.
>>
>>5851800
you need to get the whole figure done up like that. glossy bones would clash with the matte shells and mask.

"I bore you, for I am nothing. And out of nothing you came. and it is nothing you will go."
>>
>>5851876
Could be more weapon packs.
>>
>>5851878
It's possible somebody has. Judging from the '01 book, "abridged and edited" means they cut parts of the side story (MNOG walkthrough), I assume for continuity, and clumsily tried to make the rest fit with future canon (see: references to "Akhmou" and the "Toa Mata"). Haven't noticed anything from the first couple books actually cut though.
>>
>>5851896
"The people of this world are builders. But look into their hearts, and you will find they also have the power to destroy. I am that power, I am destruction, and I will destroy you."

Bionicle had some great writing its first few years.
>>
>>5851931
Bionicle had some great writing all the way though, you knob. Some of the shit in 2007 for example is legit compelling.
>>
>>5851933
I stopped buying and paying attention to bionicle in 05 so i dunno what happened after. I remember seeing the piraka and i thought they were the new toa and thought they were so ugly that i never bought a bionicle again. I missed out on some cool future sets though
>>
>>5851946
I had the same thoughts about the Piraka initially and was totally put off when I first saw them. That was the whole idea behind the marketing though. It was the first time we'd seen villains first with no Toa to be found, and we were to assume they were this new island's corrupted, false saviors. It was pretty smart in hindsight. I remember being SO relieved when the Inika showed up though.

I don't know if this is cool or not, but I still have my very first bionicle I got when I was 5.
He's pretty dusty.

I also have all of the Rahkshi, Vahki, Visorak, Piraka, Barraki, everything from the Bara Magna/Glatorian line and random assorted toa and titans, but I just thought Onepu was cool.
>>

But he's still kinda cool.

Also how are the cracked joints doing?
>>
>>5852133
Please give him a bath. Leader of Ussalry isn't supposed to be dirty like the mining plebs.

Also I feel kinda bad for Onepu and Macku. They were the right hands of Turaga, and then this faggot engineer and chronicler for 5 minutes took their places as Toa
>>
>>5851776
I don't think so. To be honest, Skype's Bonkle community is basically dead. We've all moved to Discord.
>>
>>5852135

>>5852136
Yeah I was a bit salted when Nuparu became a Toa Inika instead of Onepu, that said Nuparu still is my favorite Inika.

>>
>>5852157
Sorry 'bout that matey, what's cancer? The >tfw ? I frequent some pretty cancer boards like /v/ and /tv/

But anyways, G2 bionicle is absolute garbage and was rightfully canceled, they didn't get Farshtey back and settled for a lame cheap story.

>>
>>5852163

>>

Without Faber's cancer, there wouldn't be Bionicle.

>>
>>5852193
I've heard that story a few times before as well.
>>
>>5852168
He wasn't fighting cancer, it was a friend of his. But yeah cancer was where the idea for Bionicle came from.
>>
>>5852162
why do people still think that farshtey is a good writer? he was good enough when everything was laid out for him but when he had the power to make up stuff himself it always came out as a convoluted mess. he even admitted to not laying out his stories beforehand but just making shit up as he goes along writing it.
>>
>>5852196
The seed/canister resembled a big pill or ampoule so that led to the thought that maybe this was the “medicine” that had to cure a very big patient. When pouring the parts out of the canister you were actually already playing out the story and bringing a hero to life, the legend had begun ...the rest is history.

From Faber Files.

Not much of an update here. I switched out the three gears system used by protector Ekimu for a ball system used by 'Toa' Ekimu, which worked pretty well. By accident, she ended up about the same size, which I think works.

She still needs a weapon. Any suggestions?

>>5852277
I raised the gear box by a peg from what I initially had it, which now fits this shell. I put it in upside to fit the space, but I think it also accentuates her lines.

Also, partly to make her different, I used that "left hand is evil" trope to assign her gear system to her left hand. Her shoulders aren't as wide as Ekimu's, which again accentuates her femininity, I think.

I ordered the sets to make JTO Makuta, so I'll be replacing some of the gold and black shells on her shoulder and hips with trans-purple. Also, I'll be swapping the grey 'boob-plate' with a gold one from Tahu.

What do you guys think? Should she just be a female Makuta, or a female Skull Warrior 'gifted' with Mask of Control? If a new character, any name suggestions? And what sounds like a better title, Skull Villainess or Skull Empress?

It's a thing well known that people pretty much ignore the existence of the Glatorian arc and pretty much call it "Non-Canon"
Some people even ignore it so hard they'll say that Mata Nui wasn't sent to space but just "Somewhere else on the planet"
Take it as you will
>>
>>5852358
desu the glatorian arc felt more like traditional bionicle to me than most of the ignition arc. the designs had more elemental motifs again and we were back to a more tribal setting with its own mysteries and story. i really enjoyed it personally.

We probably won't be getting CCBS parts bins, but how would the pricing work? I presume that a 100 piece bin wouldn't cost as much as a 100 piece set since there aren't any big design/advertising costs to account for.
>>
>>5852774
I emailed lego customer service about a parts bin and they basically told me to buy star wars CCBS if I want new parts. Personally, I think a parts tub would actually be really smart and I really think it would sell, because it would work with bionicle, hero factory and star wars, and I think chima and nexo knights had some ccbs stuff? all theyd have to put on the label is "compatible with: ___ ___ ___ ___" and people would buy it whatever building sets theyre into.

maybe I should try emailing them again, or start a petition or something, I really want new parts to mess around with and possibly even be able to build my own toa from scratch, headcanon a whole new generation if I want

bonus points if they included masks in the tubs too, even if they were just recolours of other ones ex. azure tahu mask

Kulta's such a bad ass, he needs the golden skull mask.

His normal mask kind of gets lost in there. The chains are nice, and I like the chest horns. The shells on the spare balljoints spread his chest out a bit, which makes him look wide, especially with the cape. The wide look kind of works, though.

I was messing around with some dremel attachments I picked up today. Drilled the center of the mold mark circle out, then decided to go a little further. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I made the cuts, because the skull looked pretty neat with the circle in the forehead.

Anyway, I'm going to see how this looks when I fill the area that's been cut out with some transparent red resin. There's a lot of custom potential with something like this.

US here, I've ordered from Hungary and other places in Europe relatively often and I've never had a package take more than 2 weeks. I've actually got an order coming in sometime this week for the Villain and Accessory polybags from this Russian seller whom I've ordered from twice before. If you're worried about it, pay for insurance, it's usually only a couple of bucks.

Not to mention that the Villain pack is a Russian/European exclusive. So someone who's in the states that's selling them is probably out to make some kind of profit.

Sooo... What went wrong, /biog/? Is Bionicle essentially confirmed as being dead forever, with these two years being only a small encore gift for the fans? Is there no hope at all for a third generation?
>>
>>5853694
For Bionicle as a specific line maybe, for general ball jointed building/CCBS I'd doubt it.
>>
>>5853311
Because you're bad a posing him.
>>
>>5853694
>>5853696
Ehhh. I'm not so sure. It's possible that in like 10-15 years Lego will understand that they fucked up with G2 and really, properly understand how much potential the IP holds. The line didn't fail because of the product, it failed because Lego didn't give a fuck. They start giving a fuck? And it could succeed again.
>>
>>5853735
Would they even know/remember anything about the series by then? I mean by that time they MIGHT come up with something technic/constraction based line that can match Bionicle's popularity.
>>
>>5853737
THEY would for sure. Bionicle is an integral part of their historical success whether they like it or not. The point is, the general public would forget by then. About G1, about Hero Factory, and certainly about G2. That opens the market up again with an entirely fresh slate.

Hey /biog/, I checked out Faber Files and apparently he made a really emotional post about HF in the past week.

http://faberfiles.blogspot.com/2016/08/flashback-to-battered-and-discontinued.html

He eventually thought that keeping that up would perhaps violate some good will he has with the companies he was involved in, and so he removed the text.

Does anyone still have the shit he wrote?
>>
>>5855430

He hinted that the Hero Factory itself was something more corrupt under the surface, and once they expanded further into the galaxies of it's universe, true heroes would appear who see the factory as a mockery.

At least that's how I interpreted it.

Makuta totally should have been wearing a Golden Kulta mask in the Shadow Realm. Like, he didn't have the real MoUP or his own Mask of Control. And as I see it, the red eyes in the 2015 poster were meant to represent Makuta, and those were the eyes of the Skull Mask.

It also would have been a great touch if not just to make the Villain Pack canon.

You know what's almost poetic about us having to rely on Shapeways for the Mask of Ultimate Power? The mask that Makuta wears as his titan form in the Shadow Realm isn't the real MoUP. They're both mediocre but the second one is objectively superior. The first one is way out of proportion in a lot of areas, the forehead crest isn't segmented, it's really sharp and angular and the designer made it as thin as fuck. Not to mention they deliberately made the eyes closer together to make the G2 brainstalk's eyes visible and it's loose as hell.

The second one is more solid and more accurate, however there's still plenty of inaccuracies like the narrow eyebrow fins and it's kinda on the small side. We have a guy in the middle of making his own version that's superior to both though. Give him about a week to post the finished model and it'll be up on shapeways at some point soon.

More like we never will. Just like the gunmetal Ekimu/Chima armor on the Emperor Makuta and that shield sticker on the Overlord Makuta.

Guys, what the fuck

>dig out some of my old bionicle to look at them

>>
>>5856135
No idea what you're talkin bout. I just found it while looking up examples of the finish.
>>
>>5856136
You shoulda disassembled them. Parts can warp from all the weight, and if you have balls in sockets, they can get fucked. Also, if they're clear plastic, lime, or those squared off joints from 08 sets onward, that's a common occurrence.
>>
>>5856154
nah all my stuff is 01-05 but I have like 20 or more and theyre all fully assembled. are you staying i should go through them and take them all apart? theyd probably break way more if i did that

this makes me worry about my ccbs stuff, or is ccbs better material? or is it gunna get fucked too
>>
So after initially deciding I wouldn't bother with the Makuta competition because of my limited budget/parts, I ended up working on some ideas I had in a drunken haze and stayed up until four in the morning building this monstrosity.

Basic idea behind it is that rather than successfully returning in any of his grand overlord forms, using the remains of Umarak the Destroyer to brute force his way past the Toa's final stand caused Makuta to return as a skeletal, emaciated abomination with a mind damaged beyond the possibility of rational thought or repair. I'll probably fine-tune it some more in the time I have left before the deadline, but it'd probably be more swapping pieces out as opposed to adding more, considering the theme I'm running with here.

1. The horns are alittle too perfect, try a different build than the umbrella look.
2. Try to cover up the front of the technic beams on the legs.
3. add more peices to the part under the shoulder so the arms dont just bulge out.

Thanks for the pointers, senpai. Just grabbed part of Quake Beast's arm and Korgot's drill to cover the exposed Technic, and angled the horns up to look more like a weird crown.

Not sure what to do about the shoulders/arms, if anything; I designed the upper torso so that they could be angled up and down to either be in the anatomically correct positions or raised up and bulging out like a demented abomination.

The balljoints themselves are completely redesigned, with the sockets being thicker and the balls having those shock-absorbing holes, and you'd need some serious brute force to break them.
However, those axle holes on top of the Y-sockets can still develop cracks, just like pretty much every other Technic part that has those "emergency holes" in them.

However yo feel about it though, it's the best we've got.

The darker, rougher one is the matte one, correct? I was comparing Vladek's mask to the polished one then. It's a bit rougher than I thought but I probably got the meaning of matte wrong. But matte gold steel and polished gold steel have the same price, so I suppose that must be the same for black steel. So we can still decide.

Minecraft sets is way overpriced. To keep it with the 'block' look of MC, they have to use more of the smaller 2x2 blocks, so either the sets need way too many pieces to look good, or look undervalued when keeping to price per part budgets.

I don't think they're overpriced, but you are right that the way they're designed ends up making them look expensive in comparison to the traditional licensed vehicles. A regular Creator house would only have the house portion, but you need additional landscaping to have that house in the Minecraft theme.

The Minecraft sets fit in the normal price ranges for licensed sets, and they do fit the price per parts. But like I said before, needing to use mostly the 2x2 blocks makes the sets end up anemic, especially when compared to something like a Creator or City set.

I picked up the Ender Dragon set on discount, and was thinking "man that's a good number of black bricks!" Then when I was finished, it was terribly underwhelming.

I'm still pissed about G2, fucking lego bringing back one of their most successful, longest running original series' and then just proceeding to treat it like shit like every other original series, Chima, Power Miners, everything. Bringing Bionicle back the way they did was a mistake, they had one chance at redemption and they didn't even fucking utilize it, Lego is dead to me and I've long since moved on to Halo Mega Bloks, But G1 Bionicle still lives on in my heart. First time poster in this thread.

I have a large bin filled to the brim with Bionicles(All G1), all varieties. I have the original 6 Toa, Muaka & Kane-Ra, a Nui Jaga, Matoran, all the Pirakha(Including my favorite, Vezon), Inikas, Rahkshi, a couple Vahki and Visorak etc.

Are these officially collectible tier or what? They're my childhood collection and are basically a frozen relic from 2000-2010.
>>
>>5857572
What is it you wanna know? Value for reselling?

Bionicle is generally not that expensive in the aftermarket. Given the way the rest of the Lego community views it, it's not even that expensive on the main Lego marketplace, Bricklink.

Keep them if you cherish them, but don't expect them to sell for a lot, save for a few masks, or maybe the Happy Meal Tohunga.
>>
>>5857572
>Are these officially collectible tier or what?

Most of them don't seem to go for crazy prices on ebay or anything like that. But as you said, they are basically a time capsule for 10 years of your life, So, they're officially your collectible tier.
>>
>>5857574
Rarity, value, etc.

Not that I was looking to move them(Though I won't say never), just curious I suppose. They do make nice display pieces though I have nowhere to place them, hence the bin.

Part of me almost wants to just hold onto them until I have a son or daughter to properly pass them down to.
>>
>>5857535

I agree that they didn't put enough effort in it (the excecs, at least. The creative team was brilliant and full of great ideas), but I disagree that it shouldn't have been done period. Compare constraction in 2014 to its current state: lots of colors missing, poor integration with Technic, only four types of prefab torsos, few textured parts, poor integration with old Bionicle parts. Sure, it's been only two years, but Bionicle once again saved constraction, from its near comatose state to new heights and possibilities.

Not to mention the massive and much needed update the original six Toa, and arguably Makuta himself, got in terms of looks.
>>
>>5857576
>So, they're officially your collectible tier.
Indeed they are, the nostalgia hits rampant whenever I see 'em.

I do love the fact they managed to stay together over the years save for some masks falling off or rubber bands snapping, almost forgot how durable these babies were.

I disagree with the visual upgrade thing, I think they look worse than the originals, they're robots, not superheroes, covering up their entire front in pectoral shaped armor is not a good thing, they look like Hero Factory rejects, not to mention the awful cartoony decals, G1, despite being colorful still, were much more gritty looking than the new guys.

Also, the new story was lame as shit compared to the old one, super generic, it was a yawn fest.

Threadly reminder that Bionicle is the Metal Gear Solid of toys

>MGS1-2/G1 Mata and Nuva arcs
The first few years/installments are well done classics that could arguably wrap up the series.

>MGS3/G1 Metru Nui arc
A prequel that doesn't dabble too much in the continuity, but offers an insightful and well done look at how things began for the series.

>MGS4 and PW/Voya Nui and beyond
At the expense of being a clusterfuck, the story expands to areas where it shouldn't have quite gone and felt worn out after a certain point. Some argue the series overstayed its welcome.

>MGSV/G2
Starts off pretty damn good, but simmers out as the come-one-come-all finale of the series is rushed out the door in a half finished mess and fans are left with crippling disappointment at what could've been.

But that's wrong, though. Ignition was fucking amazing.
>>
>>5858020
Eh, not really.

It was the beginning of Greg's wild ride, and I'm not arguing that it doesn't have some good things.

However, that's when some of the charm of the first few years was lost, and the advertising for Piraka was something completely different, and not in a good way.
>>
>>5858022
While the execution was sloppy, Voya Nui was bizarro Mata Nui and I feel like it was a better "new" arc than the Metru arc.

>>
>>5858020
>>5858022
>>5858026
Honestly, what the fuck happened between 2005 and 2006? I know Greg got control of most of the story, but it feels like that there was like an exposition overload with like 9 million new things introduced at the same time
>>
>>5858038
Go read it, you ADD fuck.
>>
>>5858041
I've read it, yes.

I just don't understand how or why Greg managed to introduce so much new things in such a short time period.
>>
>>5858022
Just because the advertising took a turn for the worse doesn't mean the story did. Some of the best, most powerful scenes in all of Bionicle happened in 2006 and 2007. The story really kind of dwindled on Mata Nui,
>"There's some new swarm bad guys! Whaddowedo? Where are they from? Who fuckin' knows? Let's go find some shit to help" X4.
It started getting it's legs on Metru Nui, but the grand plot for the series really look off running during Ignition. The things happening in those years weren't just scenarios, treasure hunts, or damage control anymore. They were ongoing battles for the fate of the Universe, and world changing events.

I'm not saying the early years are bad; the atmosphere of early Bionicle is irreplaceable. But just because things changed doesn't make it objectively bad. It's good for other reasons.
>>
>>5858057
They had to introduce a new legendary mask, new island, new villains, and a whole new arc for Makuta from 05 to 06. Not to mention how the Tohunga from 01 became the Inika had to be explained, and the Order of Mata Nui was needed as a means to explain why the MoL had ancient guardians and it's existence was a secret.

Maybe the Piraka not simply being Dark Hunter goons but traitors, Vezon, and Karzahni as a whole were unneeded but the rest seems like it had to be there.

>>
>>5858068
There was also literally everything that was inside MU, Makuta being a species instead of being one solitary thing, Dark Hunters as a whole got a bit more fleshed out, and I still don't understand how a gang of thugs managed to defeat the most powerful Toa in the whole universe.
>>
>>5858072
>Makuta being a species instead of being one solitary thing
That was revealed in 2005 IIRC.
>and I still don't understand how a gang of thugs managed to defeat the most powerful Toa in the whole universe
The Nuva were strong, but massively sheltered. They thought measly Rahkshi were powerful for crying out loud. They got cocky and assumed they could easily beat by a group of beings they'd never seen before. Plus, the Piraka weren't just chumps. Skakdi are pretty tough to begin with, but they were also trained by the Dark Hunters.
The Inika were more coordinated, careful, had a better idea of what they were up against, and were just given a huge power boost by the Red Star.
>>
>>5857753
Aw, who's a cute lil' hellspawn?

>a bunch of Rahi
>cleaning robots that didn't really give a shit about fighting them
>super cleaning robots that did give a shit about fighting them and completely wrecked them as a result
>superpowered slugs in armor who they also had a lot of trouble with
Getting amnesia and forgetting their entire training really brought down their effective power.

>It finally comes
>It's the wrong sets
>>
>>5858038
For one, Bob Thompson left in 2005, and he was one of the main story writers up to that point. He had a personal outlook on the story and forced the others to conform to his ideas (like when he asked them not to make the Exo-Toa too plot relevant), so when Greg took over, some sort of change was inevitable.

There were probably other deciding factors behind the scenes, like 2005 being basically a giant ad lib, Lego and Miramax parting ways, and of course the drastic change in advertising that's already been mentioned. These all influenced the tone of the story in various ways.

The barrage of new story material, including an entire expanded universe existing off-screen, was more of a natural progression of the lore, after the Metru Nui storyline had opened the floodgates and we learned that the Mata Nui setting was literally just surface-level.

My room is pretty dusty and alot of it gets on my bonkles, dunno if its bad if I move joints that have dust on them but I think it might be. I've tried dipping them in water to remove the dust from them however. How do I deal with my bionicle + dust issue?
>>
>>5858614
Obviously pop out the joints and dust the sockets and ball ends, along with dusting anything else. Dunking them in water is quicker for removal, but drying it and making sure there isn't any water trapped in some parts is a bit tedious unless that's something you're okay with.

>>
>>5858592
Man, it was one thing acknowledging HF had potential it did't pursue, but after reading what it could have been? What it almost was? That's a whole other level of bad feels.

The Hero Factory could have been a total Vought American. An organization that wanted make money off their heroes instead of actually doing some good.

And the real heroes would have to fight the system while overcoming the fake heroes they were meant to be. They could have totally pushed a "What it truly means to be a Hero" theme.
>>
>>5858639
just clean up with a duster on the shelves if you use those, and just dunk them in water before moving arms and legs. Moving them if there is dust on the ball joints makes a creak/squeak sound that freaked me out, might cause damage. Let them bonkles dry and put them back up.
>>
>>5858665
>Do you know what it takes to be a hero, when you lost a piece of love; a piece of you?
>>
>>5858666
How badly does dust ruin joints?
>>
>>5858665
Of course, they would need to keep the quaza core that they all received when built. I think it was that that gave them each their unique sentience and mind. Realiziing that the factory set them up to look like real heroes to all the different worlds they saved, as well as knowing the Factory was responsible for putting them in danger, would make some or all rebel. Basically, the factory is a lie. And fuck makuro. Oh, and bring back von nebula since they teased his return but never let it happen. must have been Lego's new policy of "not making it too complex".
>>
>>5858665
>And the real heroes would have to fight the system

>Protagonist Hero team denounces the factory and goes underground.
>The Resistance movement gathers anyone willing to fight.
>Heroes, villains, and outcasts join together to topple the HF empire.
>Led by Von Ness, the first HF deserter who's struggling to come to grips with his identity of Hero or Villain.

Good stuff that will never happen.
>>
>>5858676
I am not sure, like I said, it gives the ball joints some resistance when moving them as well as a squeaking sound whenever I tried messing with one. I've seen cracks in the pieces that grip the ball joint, but I am still not sure if that was caused by the dust or little autistic me when I played with them a while ago. Going to have to hit up bricklink soon. Instead of dunking them, you could also use a wet Q-tip to remove as much dust as possible from a joint, and dry it off with a dry one.

You'd think Lego would learn after this that they need a good story just as much as they need good sets. I'd really like to know why they decided to scrap this idea of a darker, deeper story covered by a squeaky clean facade for just the facade. Maybe G2 had a similar development mis-judge that led to the meh story.
>>
>>5858727
"Because it confuses little kids" that's the general excuse for watered down storylines.
>>
So I've decided that G2 story wise only officially works for me for the first year. Fuck Umarak and the Beasts, fuck the Creatures, Agil, the Shadow Realm, prophecy of light, just fuck 2016. At least with little to no exposition the world still has potential to be fleshed out. I just think everything given to us in 2016 restricted G2's universe something fierce. Also plot holes.
>>
>>5858738
>2015
>Story

Without those novels we got you would have had a convoluted shitpile with no depth
>>
>>5858740
For a guy who made a fanfic/headcanon for things that never got any relevance in the story like the GMoSS and the islander's plights while the Toa fetchquested their masks, the lack of depth in 2015 didn't bother me. And JtO was a retconning trainwreck so I'd rather have a "do it your own" G2 than a migraine.
>>
>>5858729
I get that, but it doesn't engage them either. You ask any Bionicle fan what got them into it and chances are they'll say it was the story. The characters. The world. The adventure. It didn't just spark the imagination, it fanned the flame. That's not to say the sets aren't important, they're the important bridge between the real world to the imaginary one. I'm just saying there needs to be enough story for there to be an attractive destination.

The complications and retcons of later years ultimately hurt the brand, but that just goes to show you need a plan a clear vision for ahead instead of making it up as you go along.
>>
>>5858747
I know but it seems the company can't understand how to fix something as getting a story too complicated in the long run so they did the effortless solution giving us a barren lackluster plot line.
>>
>>5858738
What?

The Creatures being the ancient creators of the elemental crystals which the Mask Makers use to forge masks, and Umarak being the primordial balance of shadow to those elements was a fucking excellent concept that expanded G2's lore a lot. It's just that once they were added, they didn't do much with them.
>>
It's suffering that we never got a scene where once Umarak gets the Mask of Control, Makuta tries smothering him in shadow to convince The Hunter that he actually wants to take the mask for himself. Then Umarak is all like,
>Ah... you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding! Shadows betray you because they belong to me!
as he forces Makuta's shadow powers away with his own. Then he puts on the Mask of Control, seeing that Makuta wants it back so badly, afterwhich Makuta is all like,
>Lolnope.jpg
and mindfucks him.
>>
>>5858921
Speaking of which, why DID Makuta's mask mutate Umarak anyway? That was never explained. Hell, we don't even know what the Mask of Control even DOES, do we?
>>
>>5858931
Set descriptions once said the mask controls the minds of others. My guess is that Makuta wore the mask for so long that he shared some mystical bond with the artifact, allowing him to channel his own power through the mask and control Umarak without even wearing it. Basically he turned Umarak into a host for his spirit, because he needed to physically walk around the island himself to collect the MoUP and bring his real, more powerful body back from the Shadow Realm.
>>
>>5858940
I've always thought what made the legendary masks special was that they encompassed many powers. They were so fucking powerful that regular mortals couldn't access their true abilities and were only overwhelmed or boosted by the raw energy, like Kulta. Even Umarak, who is on the level of an Elemental Creature or Toa couldn't effectively harness their power. Only the Mask Makers, who the masks were originally designed for, could harmlessly tap into the true abilities. As time went on, they discovered more and more uses and the multitude of things they were capable of.

At first Ekimu used his mask to craft beautiful things, and Makuta used his mask to suppress the elements or regulate the heat of his materials and forge. Eventually Ekimu found that he could also use his mask to power himself with Elemental Crystals, or forge powerful and creative weaponry. Eventually Makuta found that he could also control the minds of villagers and force them to do his bidding with his mask. Makuta accessing this power beyond our realm and controlling Umarak is just an extension of this experimentation.
