>you are a designer at hasbro

>the cast is entirely new with the usual optimus prime megatron type characters in place but in a different universe allowing for full creativity
>there are limits for the gimmick
>rule one-YOU CANNOT USE AN EXISTING IDEA FROM ANY PREVIOUS TRANSFORMERS LINE-no g1 call backs such as pretenders
>rule two-NO ELECTRONICS OR MOTORS as they are not cost effective, can be applied to larger toys (leaders ONLY) but CANNOT be the main entire line gimmick
>rule three-MUST ADHERE TO INTERNATIONAL SAFETY STANDARDS, no sparks must be emitted, etc
>rule four-WHATEVER GIMMICK IN PLACE THERE MUST BE SOMETHING THAT INTEGRATES IT INTO THE ENTIRE LINE SO EVEN THE LEGIONS HAVE A PART IN IT
>rule five-IT MUST BE SOMETHING THAT CAN BE USED IN THE SHOW FREQUENTLY AS TO HELP SELL THE TOY
>rule six-THE MAIN GIMMICK CANNOT, I REPEAT, CANNOT BE A DECENT TRANSFORMER WITH DECENT ARTICULATION, you don't win friends with salad
>>
>>5846682
I wish they had perceptor's colorscheme completely. They don't have enough colors to break up all that red and teal.

It makes be made because there was supposed to be a third color included but someone either fucked up or though those colors with no separation was a great idea.
>>
>>5846704
There are silver accents and white.

They needed something that didn't just blend in
>>
>>5846701
No. Since all TF gimimick for the first part were already used in the 80's and AEC finished off anything else.

So with the no call back rule it pretty much makes it so transformers are the fucking gimmick.

because no call backs means:
-no combining
-no micro/minicon
-no spark gimmicks
-no motors means no auto change gimmicks
-no auto-moph gimmick
-No rock launchers
- No color changing
- No Masters
-no beasts

List goes on.
>>
>>5846709
The silver and white aren't used to break up the color though.

Perceptor uses the black on him to at least seperate his torso and legs, the bearers don't even get that. Its just red and teal just flowing together and it doesn't look good.

>motors means no auto change gimmicks
Motors as in something that causes the transformer to roll under its own power are out as that may be too expensive and wouldn't work for a legion class toy, something with gears/springs could work as that isn't a motor.

But we had automorphs/mech tech already so that's out

>>5846723
>>5846726
The idea of this exercise is to get something "fresh", something never thought of, so how about this.

>customization
No heads coming off or diy combiners, what about interchangeable armor, legions can become pieces of armor/have their own armor sets (included or in blind bags) with the ability to use between all classes, you could give optimus prime "stealth" armor that can work for bumblebee or whoever else, and it can be use in vehicle mode (folds up into a weapons rack).

Been building alot of gunpla lately, and with the build fighters they put alot of thought into the whole mix and match, so just simple pieces of plastic that turns into armor, just simple armor frames, could we go as far as having them stick on as they transform, don't think so, but as a parts forming gimmick they could work as weapon storage, would leave room for blind bag options.

>seek out all of the legendary power armor!

Its not quite pretenders because they change the entire thing by encasing it into a shell, this is just something akin to body armor/barbie clothing in a sense, just my idea, would work in hasbro's favor since its cheap

>>5846728
That can work, I honestly hate using my little pony as an example but I'm an ass anyway, that show where the ponies became school girls?

Make a show where the transformers are infact humanoids in boot camp, an excuse to have articulated human reditions of optimus prime shooting megatron?

>>5846732
Sounds a bit like mech tech but you know what, I like this one, I was hoping for ones like this, whole arms and legs coming off and being integrated weapons, using spring loaded gimmicks or conversions

That is just a simple cash in and nothing to do with the show apart from the name and likeness, that said they look kinda nifty and would be something I'd buy after getting extra work pay out of impulse

>>5846760
On one hand you're correct, on the other they don't fit into any toy line as they mix movie stuff with g1, and mostly a cash in on the line.

My idea is based on armor attachments on already playable toys, those constructobots are convertible bionicle, you don't need to "build" armor that goes over a pre-constructed toy (they'd have a base body so loosing the given armor would only loose a small feature not like headmasters where they loose heads or combiners without hfg's can't combine), of course this might be used in said hasbro meeting as a reason for why it shouldn't exist so its a fair call

Trying to inject create innovation in a world full of budgets, and the need to "step back" into proven ideas is the easy way out, bit like why cars keep resorting to fossil fuels, because it works, but the need to go forwards is hard and scary for new adopters.

Purpose of what I'm trying to see if there is hope for the brand in the future, we can't keep pumping out combiners forever and ever (as much as, admittedly, I LOVE combiner wars), people would get sick of power masters and minicons, sometimes an old brand needs a new push

Paint pen in hand, acrylic painters silver, any accidental bleed is removanle with a wood toothpick and no scratches left behind, the silver around the abs works just slightky to me, makes it look less "bare belly" and more "armor variance"

The red on the headgun was a small bubble out of an acrylic paint tube i put on and wiped off the outside before letting dry, the black beard, just go with a narrow point, sharpie works, but can easily fuck up things if you mess up, i prefer paint pens, but black never comes in stock around me

I would love to see your skullcruncher
>>
>>5846701
I had a very similar armor idea to what you described. Bots would come with armor bits you can swap but vehicle/vehicle attachment drones and even a few characters could transform into armor attachments like jetpacks or gun-harnesses.

Another idea I had would be a "battle mode" or "adrenaline mode" or whatever. Some stuff on one of the modes turns into cybertronian weaponry and the like, maybe a facemask pops up or lights and sound gimmicks activate.

Might anyone have a suggestion as to how I could tighten the hip joints on my CW Mixmaster without taking it apart?
I spent a good half hour yesterday piddling around with him and it looks as thought if you were to take apart his torso, then the hip section is literally the last piece that comes apart and I'd really rather not deal with that considering how difficult most of the screws are to access.

They're just barely tight enough for him to stand up in robot mode but in combiner mode when they form the back/forward ankle articulation it's unposeably floppy when it tries to support the entire weight of Devastator.
>>
>>5846771
It's still already been done. You said no callbacks, now you're breaking your own damn rule
>>5846813

>>
>>5846701
First off, new factions, totally seperate from the great decepticon autobot war, let us try to fill in all transformers history with more species offshoots and worlds.

Female villian commander of an autobot offshoot species, all the villians are bland cars trucks wetc, but modified like lockdown or mad max, every transformation gives an asymmertical robot.

Heroes are fliying craft, but transformation for them is onky a last resort, everyone seems to wear the flying xraft as clothing of sorts in robot mode (tfa blitzwing, rid starscream, crosshairs, spockimus prime and rotf breakaway type)

Everyone heroic has no built in weaponry, but uses a self built tool to fight.

Linewide gimmick is a build-n-bash gimmick, villians get more mad max things added from legion figures, heroes use the parts to make hammers whrenches axes and swords.

All of it uses the old c clip system, but in reverse, the vehicles have the clips, the gimmick brings the rods.

Leaders get lights and missile firing weapon/tool bits

When first meeti the known transformers factions, the heroes ally with megatron mistakenly, before seeing how horrible he is to his subjects, then the villians show up and trick the autobots into attacking heroes, our old leader gets nearky kiled, a young autobot (strongarm say) defects to the heroes, exposing the autobots having been trixked, and reveals the new villians, who outdo all but megatron, moving strarscream over to becoming an autobot ally because he gains more power on that side.

Have the humans be explorers of space, and earth is in the future with a viable space operation and has been an ally to the autobots for some time.
>>
>>5846701

>>

>Female villian commander of an autobot offshoot species, all the villians are bland cars trucks wetc, but modified like lockdown or mad max, every transformation gives an asymmertical robot.

>>
>>5846828
That would probably work but I'd need to work out a way to actually get it in inside, I'd probably just have to outright soak it.

Does any bran of floor polish work for that or does it need to be pledge floor finish?
>>
So what's /tfg/'s headcanon justification for Headmasters?

Mine's like the Titans Return storybook, where the headmasters give the individual bots special powers. In addition, headmasters can switch between each other during combat and on the fly. If a headmaster is not connected to a bot for more than 10 seconds the bot is incapacitated until a headmaster fuses with it. However when in head mode the headmaster does not have any personality, the main robot is the one in control.

Ooh! Last thoinh, titan class figure forms playset and spaceship (not robot in space dammit, better than tidal wave!) And if you collected all of the legion class bits, he gains a third mode (tank, battlestation or research/repair base with mining drill, deoending on budgets )

And if i didn't make it clear, the villians should have a feral fighting style, with built in weaponry.

If nothing else, some third party should take the idea and make it work as a subfiction.

Depends on the character, for gfalvatron, the head is his essence, but his spark is in his body, he controls both simultaneously, can't be killed easily, scourge, he was refit with simikar tech after kosing the sweeps, hardhead, built by humans and then classic cartoon headmasterization, but no soul in the body, just a remote control system.

Blurr, he neded a copilot due to failing reflexes.

Thoughts on the titan return line so far?
>>
>>5846701
A vintage vehicle line set in the 1910s.
With old timey cars, train and biplanes. They could even get some steamboats and sailboats I guess.
And maybe they could have a transformer that was a horse drawn carriage with a horse that turns into the transformer's gun.

I don't fucking know, they this series has done every gimmick imaginable.

Basically the Japanese continuity where the real robot is the headmaster and the body is a power suit. Except that the bodies are also simple drones when in altmode. I liked the idea of the Decepticon Headmasters being trainers to their beast drones in the US series.

Fully original characters and designs like in the Unicron Trilogy, with various Brave-style combining gimmicks throughout the line. The main character of the show gets upgrades when new members join the team to further power up his super mode, like in many Brave shows.

Most characters also have themed altmodes and have hat/helmet designs to fit this. For example, a construction vehicle character that wears a hard hat in robot mode.

So which titan masters and their vehicle throw ins best homage the original toys?

Deciding between legends or hasbro offerings, I got hasbro crashbash since I had shockwave x3 already, and since I'm getting wheelie and rewind (want him to match my takara blaster) I got go shooter and nightbeat as well.

But I have little need to get terri-bull or apeface from the takara offerings (still deciding on soundwave), and ape face's vehicle from hasbo homages him pretty well, so which out of the current hasbro cast has the best vehicle accessory homage to their old toys other than pic related

Such a nice change from samefag mold reuse in CW. Not to mention I love the Headmaster gimmick, beastformers, and the fact that there's so much more interactivity between titan masters besides forming the head of a robot and riding in the cockpit. I love these little piloted turrents and pegs that let the titan masters stand on vehicles.

What they needed was to not use all of the colors everywhere on everyone. Think of the Constructicons, for example. you have Bonecrusher who is almost all green, Long Haul is green and black mostly, and then the others mix green and purple mostly. It gives more variety. If one of the twins was all red and the other green it might help, for example. Rust Dust (Groove) stands out a bit in the set because she has a lot of black on her and not much red-orange. It helps make her a bit less busy.

Man, I wish Combiner Wars had been planned in advance to include room for more homages to flipchangers, spychangers, European Predators, G1 seekers, etc.

If they had put the front vehicle kibble on a ball joint, they could have swung it to point down for a typical kibble chest in robot mode. Would have given us a better Mirage, Prowl, etc. and opened the door to like a RID set, European Predators {would be better as an exclusive with a new-mold Falcon, since nothing makes a good Falcon}, and anything that makes a good Talon would also be good as G1 seekers. The Armada Thrust we got isn't the same, though I suppose it's better for G1 seekers to have a flat chest with faux alt mode cockpit on the chest rather than a protruding cockpit.

and if they had planned better for LioKaiser, they could have opened the door for Micromaster gestalts like SixWing and SixTurbo.

Really pathetic how they dropped the ball. You see it in how Takara did Blast Off and Hasbro didn't even wait long enough to use the mold in their G2 set, and now we're fucked. They've only gotten as far as releasing Groove. I have doubts they'll bother releasing G1 Blast Off let alone G2 Blast Off. A G1 Blast Off in better colors would be nice.

So I made a difficult choice, seeing how I'm trying to quit collecting while still getting what I want out of it, at this stage I''ll be hanging around for trypticon.

I decided not to get legends/TR soundwave simply because of the fact he carries far too much of blaster in his retooling, granted he looks good (apart from the head) in robot but his cassette form is shocking.

Sadly, I have another clause which I'm following, "if there is an mp of it lower class toys are not required" and apart from CW buzzsaw (impulse purchase at discount) guess who my soundwave is?

It is the cheapest most complete set to get of him, it just sucks the proper one is insanely priced, *might* grab soundblaster if he gets stupidly cheap but I doubt it, I'll just pretend goat here is a ghost, least...the overall form is the same...

The European guys are simply not well known characters. Even Botcon balked at doing Turbomasters when their Machine Wars line flopped. I simply don't think Hasbro would touch them unless they desperately needed a mold mate for something. And apparently the Jpn characters trump the euro ones in that category.

He's my favorite character and I can't find his MP anywhere for lower than $240.

Yea, he'd probably be better off with someone who'd actually display him.

Honest question, what do you think is a fair price for him? He's complete, but one of the cassette tape cases came damaged (tapes still fit in there fine, but it looks like the 2 little sprue things on the inside of the case were removed somehow).

What the fuck happened? I stopped collecting around the time generations Springer came out.
Did we lose all sense of standards or something? The G1 version is a solid brick of plastic, but at least it's fucking solid, shit I still have mine with only the trailer peg broken.

Everyone major store I've been in has shrunk their transformer section to 1 quarter section of a shelf, like seriously it was months till we got anything.

It was, which is why I'm thinking about selling off my G1 MP's to replace with upcoming Beast Wars MP's. I only watched a few episodes of G1 as a kid, and honestly the only characters I gave a shit about were Starscream, the Combaticons, Optimus, Megatron, and to some degree, the Dinobots (because dinosaurs are fucking cool). The show was pretty shit and there was little incentive to get attached to any characters other than Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, and Starscream because there was ZERO character development. At least Beast Wars made you give a shit about what happened to it's characters.

>>5847348

Yea, if I were to sell him, I'd probably do $170 shipped or something. Can't see myself scalping him TOO hard or anything. Need to pay off a credit card, so I've really been considering parting ways with a lot of my shit that's in storage.

Transformers genesis
The team is a batch of protoforms lost in space. No memory means new factions. They adopt new forms for each new planet they reach.
The toys are basic blank skeleton types with their transformation scheme built in.
Car type, jet type, truck type, tank type, etc.
Swap out parts for "upgrades" and thus you can sell packs that are just the armor sets.
The small line become armor saint seiya style.
The voyagers basically combine a deluxe set and a legion set. Leaders combine two deluxes.
Titan classes/base classes are giant arming platforms

>>
>>5847178
Onslaught is good
Brawl is shit
Blast Off is a good toy but a shit Blast Off
Vortex is just another CW helicopter
Swindle is OK unless you get a horrifically loose one like I did

>>
>>5847587
The only problem I had with my set was my Vortex's hips were loose as fuck and one leg kept popping off. But I swapped the hip joints for the ones on Alpha Bravo (first use of the mold) and now it works just fine.

And yes, before that I did future floor, but it still kept popping off even after multiple coats.
>>
>>5847301

Why didn't you tape off areas you know you wouldn't want paint on?
Why didn't you use a brush that clearly isn't fucking huge?
Why did you try to repaint Blurr into Nightbeat when they have completely different altmodes you fucking idiot?

A Transformers version of Skylanders/Amiibo. TF figures with microchips somewhere on their bodies that plug into the accessory that comes with the new Tranformers video game, but will work on all TF video games going forward.

The gimmic as displayed on the TV series would manifest as The TFs themselves plugging in to a Matrix-like core of Cybertron to combat a non-Cybertronian viral threat.

The figures themselves however would be decent Transformers with decent articulation and detail, because fuck you.
>>
>>5847718
>The figures themselves however would be decent Transformers with decent articulation and detail, because fuck you.

The point of that last statement isn't that you can't have that, it's that the gimmick specifically can't just be "make them good"

The most complained thing is that is face looks like evil Bumblebee, which I guess means he'll survive up until the next movie.

Also I don't like how bent the police parts on his arms are, might not translate to toy well.
>>
>>5847731
I'm not really a fan. Barricade is one of my favorite movie designs and this is just so much more generic. His proportions are totally normal now, no monster claws, no window "wings", generic as fuck face, no high shoulders, normal legs, etc. It's not a bad design, and makes a decent generic trooper design, but it's a bit boring to me. The small details are neat though.

I'll reserve judgment until I see it in motion though.
