For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***GM Group Build***
Rules:
Pick an HG GM, and paint and customize it. For it to count as a GM, it literally just has to have GM in the name of the MS on the box, otherwise, no, it doesn't count. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a GM Custom and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Due Date: 8/12
Submissions go to [email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also name yourself, even if it's a pseudonym. Also indicate your participation in the contest below.

***Contest***
Instead of doing just a generic group build this time, there's going to be a prize pack. The prize pack will contain a GM Sniper K9, a set of glass paint mixing jars, and a Tamashii stand (sized for HGs or RDs). Shipping is at my expense.

Rules for the contest:
If you wish to enter the contest I'm going to actually need some proof. Please send me pictures of your kit as a work in progress and a final product with a timestamp and your email address. I hate to put his burden on you guys but this is the internet and people suck.

Judging
Regardless of who wins the contest proper, all entries will be made available on a blog post on Saturday, August 13th. Actual judging will take place Saturday as well, with the winner announced that evening. The winner will be contacted via email and be given a two day grace period for responding. PLEASE USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL WHEN SUBMITTING!

And of course the girls were like "OH THAT'S COOL! DO YOU COLLECT LIKE VINTAGE STUFF? DO YOU LIKE PLAY WITH THEM?" And I try to just wiggle the conversation away from the topic with shit like "yeah, the sculptors are just so talented nowadays. Like, the faces look just like the actors! Hey, by the way, did you watch that new (whatever is popular) movie that just came out?..."

Yo /toy/,

I started this guy and did one leg and a bit of the other foot, but I can't finish him. I used to have a ton of these, and I bought this one for the nostalgia but the magic's gone. It's all complete, only the bags needed to construct the leg have been opened, the decals are untouched, etc.

It'll cost about 15 bucks to ship in the US, so anyone who wants to paypal me the shipping, it's yours.

It was there, I fucking loved this stuff a few years ago. From about 2008-2011 I went on /toy/ every day, I had a ton of kits, general toys, all sorts. There's a box back at my mum and dads full of Gundam, figma, revoltech and scale models. I had Danboard, Yostuba and everything. I went out on my own and moved to the US, and life just kind of took over. I also recently embraced minimalism and am getting rid of a lot of stuff - helps because I move apartments every year or so. I miss it, I guess I'm just getting less sentimental.

Just went on an old HDD to find this pic. This one, I'm not gonna throw him away.

At the moment I actually find the shininess sort of distracting. It's like too shiny to be standard plastic, but the reflections aren't sharp enough to look like a good gloss topcoat either. It's in this weird in-between space and I'm not sure if I like it or not.

I also thought it looked sorta on the plain side without two-tone plastics like most RGs, so I'm glad to see it at least has received the usual ridiculous amount of stickers.

>>
>>5838078
Airbrushing is more expensive to start but easier to get decent results with little experience, especially on large surfaces.
>>
>>5838063
I don't get how people fuck it up. It really ian't that hard if you just follow the guides and put in a little bit of practice.
>>
>>5838079
When my spouse and I get our home, I'm stepping up to airbrushing. For now I will be hand painting until I possibly attempt rattle cans on the balcony
>>
>>5838078
> I'm not gonna jump straight into rattle cans...if I can't even hand paint
This is flawed logic. Handbrushing actually takes a lot of patience and dedication and a steady hand. IMO it's a much more advanced skill than rattlecanning, which is honestly really hard to fuck up as long as you follow a few simple guidelines and mind the weather. I know handbrushing SEEMS to be a lower-rank skill, but naaaah son, you're wrong.
>>
>>5838093
I always assumed I'd spray on super thick when using rattle cans
>>
>>5838108
It's pretty easy to avoid that. Spray from at least 12 inches away. Do not hold down the nozzle, spray in quick, short bursts while moving across the part(s). Don't try to get full coverage in a single pass, wait for it to dry and then do another light coat. There are probably more useful tips in the guide, which is linked in OP post.

After you've done a kit or two with rattlecans it'll seem positively simple. I rattlecan almost everything and save handbrushing for small details that would be a pain to mask. Oh, and get yourself a 3M filter mask (the kind with swappable cartridges) so you don't give yourself cancer.

>>
>>5838217
>>5838226
Actually let me elaborate, cement or super glue works too, you want to let it dry before you put it back in the socket so you don't glue it together, you just want to add a bit of volume so its tighter
>>
>>5838217
Heck, if you wanna try a quick and dirty fix, just jam a tiny scrap of toilet paper or kleenex into the socket, then plug the hand in. It should add enough padding to create tension. And you can add more scraps or take some out as needed until the hand is perfect.

Super glue is probably the worst of the three fixes. You don't have toilet paper, man?

Superglue is generally regarded as the worst suggestion because:

- It creates dangerous situations where people misunderstand the directions or plug things back in too soon, fusing parts together

- Superglue creates a gross white residue when it dries

- Said glue residue grinds down over time anyway, necessitating a reapplication of glue to re-tighten the joint

Pledge can be plugged back in immediately and has no visible residue, and there is literally no way to fuck up the tp/kleenex method, it comes right back out if you don't like it.

It's a modified HG Grimoire with a custom paintjob, some surface details sanded off, an LED modded head, the 180mm cannon from the EZ weapons set, and various bits and doodads added on to the armor from the looks of it. I can't see enough of the shield to make out where it came from.

The shield is primarily scratchbuilt from styrene with the connector and handle part from the HGUC GP01 shield stuck on the underside.

So I'm not sure how I want to paint this GM cannon II. I posted it last thread as well. I think I want to do a dazzle camouflage, anyone have any experience with that.
>>
>>5838605
Its alright. Just try out a kit or two, get some tools and spend about 60 bucks total.
>>
>>5838543
Yes. The Barbatos in the same display case is mine as well.
>>
>>5838605
Definitely, just try your best to build them right and pose them well, some good nippers and a hobby knife is all you'll need. If you keep your standards low you'll never be unhappy with OOB builds nor want to do better.

...Though you could maybe try panel lining, I mean its so simple it improves things a lot with just a pen or marker. It also doesn't hurt to get a can of top coat, its hardly even painting when its so simple and you're still using the plastic's colors. But you know now that you look at it those seams are really ugly, they've gotta go, better get some cement and sandpaper, its simple stuff not really painting, builds are taking a little more time and kits are piling up but its still alright. Hey maybe I could just handpaint that tiny detail instead of using the sticker, its no problem painting something so simple. Oh man that excuse for gold plastic is pathetic, and they use a giant sticker for this chunk of color? a fuck it, just get a couple of rattle cans, some masking tape and fix that right up, its not that much extra work and it'll look so much better. Maybe I could do a custom color scheme on this, but cans won't do, I should probably prime also, how expensive is an airbrush? oh man pre-shading looks so cool, can't wait to try it out. Fuck these hollow parts, I'll get some putty, some pla-plate, maybe I could improve the molds too while I'm at it...

But overall you should be fine, probably

Just got back into gunpla, so far bought two 1/144 and one 1/100 ironblood kits... Starting to have a conflict of interest here because I love all of the designs, but not everything is available in 1/100th; and now having seen the difference between the small and the midsize model kits, I don't want to buy the inferior molds.

Are they going to release MORE 1/100s for Ironblood? All of my favorites from the smaller ones were looked over, but I would gladly hold out for future releases.

tl;dr - Will there ever be a 1/100th Hyakuren Amida and or Man Rodi?

>>
>>5840150
It's not bad, but my advice is to pull back a little. it's pretty heavy handed right now. Too many people make the mistake of just going in and doing what feels right to them. For best results, you should Google up some real weathering patterns on real firearms (make sure you're getting legit results, there are a lot of fake weathered airsoft guns and stuff) and use them as reference for what areas wear down/make contact with stuff on a gun. In most cases you see this type of silver weathering on hard edges, not so much evenly distributed across flat surfaces like you've done towards the stock.

>>
>>5840206
>>5840238
yeah I tried getting most of the paint off the brush but for some reason it laid on a lot in some spots and other spots I had to pass a couple times
maybe I should get more paint off and just dip the brush in fresh paint more often? Most of the parts that got it too heavy I tried to rub some off but I'm pretty limited withought enamel thinner
It's my first try at drybrushing.
>>
>>5840270
What I do is dip the brush in my silver paint, dab most of it off on a paper towel, then hold the brush at a 45 degree angle and lightly, VERY lightly, run it along a raised edge on the gun. This works best if you lift the brush away sometimes so the silver doesn't go all the way across, build it up a little more towards corners, and slightly vary how much pressure you use so it doesn't become uniform.
>>
>>5840301
What I mean by this is, just stay away from the flat surfaces. Most of the time weathering doesn't work that way anyway. Edges, man, edges.

I'm dumb, didn't see this for whatever reason.

Anyone know how tamiya with Mr Leveling Thinner compares to Mr Color? How is the glossiness, how strong are they, etc.

Also, what's the best clear pink and flesh I can get?
>>
>>5840543
Tamiya with leveling thinner works fine. Mr. Color is a bit more durable though. I just prefer using tamiya because it's easier for me to get a hold of it (My hobby shop restocks it more often than the mr color) and it's easier to strip if I make a mistake (Just stick the part in Windex for like 5-10 minutes and the paint comes right off).
>>
>>5840548
Do you think Mr. Color's durability is worth it over tamiya? I thought they'd be similar since Hobbywave says Mr Color is a solvent-based acrylic, which sounds like the same thing as Tamiya's acrylic with Mr Leveling thinner. And have you tried any of their GX clear colors?

I noticed Hobbywave actually has a lot of mr color paints in stock, but if it's not worth it I might as well just buy some Tamiya stuff since they have free shipping over $50 on their site.
>>
>>5840543
Mr color gx clear pink is nice.

Also because I was too lazy to mix my paints properly, my gaia german grey is more like almost blackish grey.
The problem was that the paint had been sitting for too long and the paint settled into a black solvent and a light grey pigment. I got most of the greys agitated from the base, but there was a concentric ring left at the edges of the convex glass bottom.

So what I'm saying is, I fucked up(again).

what exactly makes this kit rg

it looks the same as the mg, no caution stickers or defining real robot characteristics
>>
>>5842145
Depends on how detailed you want your kit to be. The origin kit is pretty well detailed, but the RG is even more so.

Don't listen to the ham hands who can't handle small pieces and the complaint of an anon who doesn't even have the kit. It's not a hand grenade, it's pretty damn solid.

Only other differences I can think of is that the RG has slightly better articulation, and the Origin comes with extra weapons and accessories.

No one ever comments on people's builds these days.

Yours looks aesthetically pleasing, but there's some obvious sloppiness in your masking and scribing. Honestly the weapon looks hard to use, what with the shield obstructing the other hand, but since it looks cool I'll let it slide. I like the visor too.

7.5/10 not bad.

Thanks, this was actually the first criticism I've received for this build, and I appreciate it.

The masking on the legs was a nightmare. The purple paint leaked under the tape, so I had to go back and touch it up with the mint white color, which ended up pretty sloppy.

GM III is my favorite mobile suit, and Gundam Hammer is my favorite weapon, so I had to give it to him. The only reason it even has a shield is because I based it off of my Gundam Breaker 3 build, and I have the shield for extra bonuses and stat boosts.

Spray: lacquer
Hand: acrylic

Topcoat: Mr. Super Clear
Will the topcoat fuck up my paints? Also, will rubbing alcohol remove the primer+lacquer if I fuck up and wanted to wipe some paint off? I'm mostly concerned by the different types of paint I'm using and how they'll react with each other,
>>
>>5843721
Hey dummy. You have test and spare parts, use those and check for yourself.
>>
>>5843729
Currently cold and windy and storming like hell here so I figured I might as well ask anyway. I don't live in a place where I can get Tamiya/Mr. Whatever spraycans easily so I'd like to keep the waste to a minimum.
Tried priming earlier and half of everything I sprayed flew away in the wind. It was a true lesson in futility.

They mix normally. I don't get where turning grey comes from unless they are mixing it with tamiya or something.

Maybe I should a dremel or something similar in the future for more pipe sanding, but next project is snapped and test-fitted. I can already tell it's gonna be a nightmare to mask and seam weld a lot of things on this, particularly the galling shield, snout, and anything with the power pipes. Has one else had experience painting the MG Gouf Custom that can give advice for those parts? Or is it just a matter of hella masking?

>GX basic colors
They are really good colors but I wouldn't use them for mixing.

The reason you get shit color is because all "finished" colors are basically pigment + white base and when you mix them you get twice the white.

MrColor has CR line for color mixing and Gaia has its own CMYK set and they are basically clear colors where you mix them to what you want and then add white in the end.

tl;dr if you need violet, buy violet, not blue and red
