These look pretty cool. Does UT make good figures? I mean, it's hard to fuck up a Legends sized figure, but it happens.

Where did you buy Cynicus from?

What is the general opinion of MMC Anarchus/Kaon? Thinking of picking one up
>>
>>5775606

eBay. Used. The usual "Oh it was only on my shelf/barely touched/etc" spiel you see in damn near every seller's listings. Hoping I don't get fucked since he's a lanky dude with thin parts, but it's the chance you take, right? If it turns out he's fucked in some way I'll be hitting eBay up for a refund and trying to score another.

As for Kaon, only issue I know of with him is if the tabs to lock in his feet in chair mode once you've got the legs folded up, feel tight/don't slide in easy, don't even bother tabbing them. The tolerances are sometimes off and you could snap the securing tabs, plus he holds in secure even if you don't tab the feet so the tab is largely superfluous.

Does anybody know anything at all about Perfect Effect Aranea? She looks awesome but there's like zero information about her on the internet, unless I'm not looking hard enough. She looks like she'd make a good Airachnid...except she doesn't fly...so Motorachnid?
>>
Speaking of shockwaves, what's the final verdict on the third party ones? It's probably shallow, but I can't stand the shade of lilac on the takara one.

Is this upscaled Warbotron Grimlock any good? It's also only like $40 as well, rather than $80-100.

Quakwave: Good but kinda pricey.
Quakeblast: Good but harder to find since QW's makers threatened everyone into not carrying him because he's pretty close looking to QW. Also you can't use the solid barrel end without breaking his hand pretty much, it's just too tight. The folding one works fine.

God tier paint, articulation, part options, and sculptwork.

A complete nightmare of too loose and impossibly tight tolerances, parts not attached or glued properly, and a windshield that will snap unless you take it apart and shave down the connector.

There's also the upgrade set that came out with Maketoys' Tailgate set

MMC's is okay, but imo it's a bit too overly detailed, it works fine on the Jaegertron version cuz he's all black and needs that extra pop, but on Cyclonus' purple it looks weird.

Not that the upgrade from Maketoys is perfect, but for me it'll do for now
>>
>>5776103

Well, it is based on IDW stuff. They love the extraneous details on everything.
>>
>>5776176
IDW did add some detailing to his armour compared to his old G1 design, but it's still streamlined in an attractive way.

They made him look a bit more samurai so his armour has levels to it, but it still maintains a sleek profile despite the detail, whereas the MMC has a lot of sharper edges and the proportions are different.

It's definitely still Cyclonus, but it's a very different take on the look than MTMTE
>>
>>5776198
I don't know what you'd call them but those scribbly lines on him really bother me, I feel like they don't really add anything and are just distracting.

greebles is a pretty subjective term really, a lot of people call even basic detailing greebles.

It ranges from "anything that isn't smooth boxes like muh g1 cartoon is greebles!" to stuff like MMC Cyclonus' chest or the Star Destroyer from Star Wars

>A greeble or nurnie is a fine detailing added to the surface of a larger object that makes it appear more complex, and therefore more visually interesting. It usually gives the audience an impression of increased scale.

I think the key aspect of that definition is giving a sense of scale. Adding tons of smaller details works for huge objects, but for most transformers who are around 20ft and below its a mess and is just the designer taking one to many passes.

I don't mind detailing, especially at joints or places were armour meats, but random lines everywhere looks messy,
>>
>>5775773
I think Predaking's legs look weird and I hated their Megs so I don't care about Starscream. I wish DX9 would do more interesting figures and not tiny G1 rehashes.
>>
>>5776198
That chest is way too busy. It doesn't really match up with IDW Cyclonus.
>>
>>5776221

>I think the key aspect of that definition is giving a sense of scale

Why don't more people get this? You're the first person I've seen to state it.
>>
>>5776274
that's just the sort of thing that happens when people get too hung up on buzzwords.

Greebles aren't a bad word, they're just a styling tool, it's all in how their utilized.
>>
>>5776103
Man, I'd totally get the Maketoys kit if it was color compatible with other versions of the figure. I don't want to buy an old boxset just for one figure

How's the overall quality on this guy?
I've been wanting to get a good Prime figure, specially mp-10 (dont care if it's takara or hasbro. Don't care about stupid trailer either), but retarded after market prices are just too much for a master piece.

This seems to have a good price range and sadistic movie prime is pretty cool to me.
>>
>>5776361
>how do you want your truck mode familia
>"JUST"
>say no more
>>
>>5776409
Quality on mine was really fantastic. It is worth noting that I had heard of various small issues, but I have no clue of their frequency. As for mine, it's as good or better in terms of tolerances compared to my Takara Rusty Prime and all the new parts are pretty solid.
>>
>>5776361
>>5776413

Is it wrong that i kind of really want this one?
>>
>>5776367
Cross Dimension line looks like it's maketoys own spin on characters without having to adhere to a specific look.
>>
>>5776413
Its obviously optimus's cybertronian alt mode, wich im very OK with.

Anytime the story line goes to earth its boring as fuck.
>>
>>5776198
all valid complaints about another lackluster Cassy Sark design

the worst part is that MMC Cyclonus doesn't have the creepy skull-like jaw of IDW Cyclonus. A trait found on the character since his inception. it's like... get your priorities straight, you know?
>>
>>5776485
I like earth alt modes but I happen to agree on that I think cybertron based stories are way better.

Also whoever recommended I try CW Bruticus to change my opinion on Combiners: Thanks! Bruticus is pretty alright compared to what else is tried. Now I'm thinking about getting a 3p one. TFC Hades or FP Saurus?

>>
>>5776658
yeah, the mold just doesn't make for a very slick looking Cyclonus, he's just one of those characters who has a very smooth looking design.

I like the figure as Lockdown, who's known to be really spikey n shit, plus the black adds more need for the detailing, but if you're going to remold it into Cyclonus, give it more than just the old Hasbro head swap
>>
>>5776661
Hades for sure.
>>
>>5776661
I have both, and Hades is just a better bang for the buck. Saurus is okay, but overpriced (and I'm not even talking about the shells). The toys are a bit more simple than I feel they should be (missing a few articulation points and panels to cover things) which would be fine if the price was lower. But at 70-80% of the price of a Hades member, I can't help but feel that Hades just gives you more.

Maybe wait to see if FP puts out Monstructor as a boxed set at a better value.
>>
>>5776737
>>5776733
Alright, I was mainly concerned about quality but if Hades is much better I'll go with that. How is the breastmaster gimmick on hades? Good?
>>
>>5776754
I've heard good things about it.
>>
>>5776754
The Breastmasters are good. Most of them feel nearly (but not quite) on par with some of the MP Cassettes. As breastplates they work fine (although finding a place to put a Decepticon sticker is a bit of a hassle, if you care). As Targetmasters they all work great with the exception of Hellbat's as the peg is a bit too short to stay pegged in tight and not bump into his forearm. You can get him to hold it at certain angles though. As animals, they're all pretty good. Articulation is good (although Hellbat's is much simplier as he's not a quadroped). In terms of looks, they're all pretty nice, but I wasn't a huge fan of using so much trans red on the Jaguar. Not for durability reasons so much as it just makes him stand out for the rest.
>>
>>5776661
>Also whoever recommended I try CW Bruticus to change my opinion on Combiners: Thanks! Bruticus is pretty alright compared to what else is tried. N

Balljointed feet, fully articulated hands.
>>
>>5776367
This whole line they're planning is going to be hyper-stylized. A lot of people have compared it to something out of the super robot genre.

>>5776413
I can forgive the iffy truck mode for a sexy-ass robot mode like that. The articulation is pretty bonkers too, so for $80 ameribucks i'd say it's worth it.
>>
>>5776409

There's an oversized KO of MP-10 that's as good as the official release in terms of quality and like a foot tall for like 80 bucks or so, if you want MP-10 but don't like the prices Id say just get that
>>
Anyone have the Voyager-sized MP10 KO? Where'd you get from? How is the quality?
>>
>>5777177

It's just starting to trickle out so very few people have it yet. There's one review so far but it's in Chinese and the dude is also one of those terrible people who like gets 10 minutes into their review before they even have it in robot mode because they spend so much time staring at the box and the accessory tray and droning on about shit. But if you check the TFW thread you can find a link to at least get a look at it on decent quality video.

I have one preordered from TF-Direct. I'll post my thoughts when it gets here.
>>
So far from what I've seen it looks pretty solid watching that dude move it around a bit, my only complaint is the yellow paint apps that are there look thin and cheap and they forgot to paint the lights above the truck windows at all.
>>
>>5777041

>>
>>5777493

One is a $90 set of commercial toys with a fairly cheap addon.

The other is a $600 3P set of toys.

For a $90 set of toys? CW/UW stuff is fucking amazing. Easily the best official combiners ever made, and better than some of the 3P's even because some of those 3P combiners are raw shit.

However, there are 3P combiners that totally eclipse the official stuff. Shit is never absolute, and new stuff often renders old obsolete.

I have MX-II Andras and he is easily my favorite MP scaled figure. Everything about the guy is spot on, although his feet could have been done better (they are a pain to transform.)

I just read their statement and nowhere does it say anything about "exclusive". And they stated a couple months ago that Tyrant will at some point be available separately.

All the latest thing says is that they're sorry for the delays and as an apology they're including the clear Tyrant with hook, and that there will still be the regular G1 version bonus for everyone who preordered the whole set, so if you preordered the whole set you get two different versions of Tyrant.

Nowhere did it say "exclusive" or anything that implies exclusive, just stated plainly that you'll get it.

Gotta say that the Micro Blaze Creations FoC Bruticus is by far the best LOOKING Bruticus I own. Functionally, it's mediocre at best, but damn if it doesn't look the most cohesive and menacing out of all my Bruticus figures.

Does anyone have both Anarchus and Cynicus? How are they individually, and which one is better? A pro/con list would be appreciated
>>
>>5778074
I do, im in the middle of something. Gimme a few and Ill get back to you. Any pic requests?
>>
>>5778074

Don't own them both YET, they're both coming in the mail for me, but from my own research:

Cynicus: He's slim, lanky, and if you hamhand him you're gonna destroy him because he is thin and has some small, thin parts to his transformation. Also, his 5mm grip is kind of "meh" due to it being so close to him as a figure and the grip not being 5mm all the way down (it goes from 3mm to 5mm I think, the point was to make it so a wide range of toys could hold him?), so finding other characters to hold that 5mm part of the grip can be difficult sometimes since it's at the top of the peg, but given he's a bigass sniper rifle he's probably best posed on the ground rather than trying to one hand him (twohanding him probably works?). Thats basically it for his faults.

Anarchus: His toe tab when he's in chair mode is apparently pretty bitchy with the tolerance, so if it doesn't go on easily, don't even tab his feet in otherwise you risk damaging his toe paint, breaking the tab, or both. Good news is you don't actually need to tab his feet in, they sit there just fine and he holds solid. Only other complaint is his 3rd mode is just sort of there, it's not a canon mode or anything, it was just thrown in for more playability. Chair mode will apparently accommodate a decent range of figures, but it'll depend on how well those figures can take a sitting pose and how big they are/how much of a "backpack"/kibble/whatever they've got on them.

Articulation is pretty much what you'd expect out of both of them AFAIK.

Anyone else noticing that this is actually a super stylized version of the Classics Voyager figure? He's got the same windvane gun deal, the same fake-grill on the back of the robot bit, etc etc.
>>
>>5778114

Yeah, people pointed that out on TFW when the first pics popped up
>>
>>5778074
I've got both and mostly everything >>5778096 said is true.

Cynicus is smaller, fiddlier, and a bit more of a mushy alt mode. If you put too much pressure on any one section, the parts will mush apart. Still, it's a nice, if huge, gun mode. He's very articulated and you can get a great range of expressive posing. Anarchus is bigger, more solid, but a little less dynamic in atriculation range. You can get great poses, but you won't get insane "anime" posing. His alt mode is more of a novelty, when might be good or bad - depends on if you are "into" a chair alt mode. Scorpion mode is decent enough, but I've pretty much ignored it.
>>
>>5778160
>You can get great poses, but you won't get insane "anime" posing

To be fair, that can be said about a LOT of TF's, both 3P and official. Most of their engineering goes into making them transform, not making them into something thats going to be the next Revo Raiden (or whatever is your measuring stick for "Holy shit thats crazygood articulation").
>>
>>5778164
Oh, I agree that super-dynamic posing isn't the standard, it's just that when comparing the two, Cynicus can do it while Anarhcus can't.
>>
>>5778164
Yeah, but alot of 3rd party companies try to at least get close. MMC in particular seems to try to cram as much articulation as possible into its bots.
>>
>>5778173
>>5778175

Oh, true true. I'm just saying, shouldn't knock "points" off a figure for a toy line thats usually unable to pull off ultra crazy poses like a Jojo book because thats not the "focus" of the line so to speak.

I'm generally pretty happy with most of the articulation of 3P and official stuff.
>>
>>5776361
I may be in the minority here but I adore that truck mode. It reminds me of a blend of Cybertron, FoC and Classics.

Alright, so, Cynicus was used. He appears to be in good condition overall, but some of his joints are a bit tight (right ankle rocker kinda scares me a bit), and some of his balljoints are a little loose. Still, he's in one piece, and hopefully will remain that way. My Feral Rex guys definitely felt like they had better QC though. They were all pretty stock tightness everywhere on every figure (save my Leodux, who had a bar in his chest installed upside down. Thanks, random acts of QC retardation I didn't catch for a month because I'm a 'tard).

Well, this guy is amazing so far. Got him brand new. Everything is just the right amount of tightness. Unlike a bunch of reviewers versions, his fingers are also not floppy, they're stable. He looks cool as fuck. He's really fucking heavy though, like, way heavier than I thought he'd be.

I thought he was supposed to come with an extra, non-transparent fist though? I love the pink fist, but thats a definite negative if it's missing a part out of a brand new box.

The only thing I don't like about Quakeblast is the weird white bars on the leg assemblies. I'm not a scalefag, and I've got some shelving/flat surfaces in my tiny little apt. so I can fit my shit in fairly easily. He seems wonderful so far, we'll see how he holds up with time.

I hope Cloud9 makes a ton more stuff if everything is gonna be as awesome as this guy, especially for the price.

Also after checking the instructions, I don't see an extra, solid color fist listed. Which is weird, since I know some reviews I looked at showed he came with one. Maybe it was some kind of early bonus or something, I dunno. Though I can see why reviewers were bitching about the hoses being tough to get in. I'm gonna need pliers or something to squish the head and stick the hose in, and it probably ain't ever coming out if I do that. If the MP has anything over this guy, it's that their execution of the hose was amazing.

Took me a while to get him transformed though.Backpack just didn't want to unhook, I think I'm going to leave it untabbed from now on both for ease of transformation and to give him more wiggle waggle room and articulation. There's kinda a trick to it you just kinda finagle a hook to the right or left and unhook the clips from a certain angle. It also applies to putting the backpack on.

What kept me from buying MPs was the fact that there wasn't a good Megatron to lead my Decepticons and go with my MP Optimus. Pic related is what I want but with MP Shockwave. Only one I have is Soundwave.

I personally tend to avoid 3rd party MP's of the 84/85 cast since I believe Takara will get around to them eventually. I however heartily recommend Maketoys Chromedome and Hardhead MPs. They fit in perfectly with the official MPs and Takara aren't likely to get around to them anytime soon.

So I finally finished my first Combiner, after months of getting what I could when I could. It's Menasor, only instead of Offroad or Wildrider I've got Swindle filling in. He fits in quite well with the Stunticons, actually.

Anyways, I like the hand-foot-guns as hands and feet, and I can just about bullshit some decent gun modes (Swindle really shows his adopted brothers up in this regard), but I know there's lots of other options out there, some which are better hands, some better feet, some better guns. So guys, what are some absolutely must-have 3p figures?
>>
>>5780959

Lets see...

Damn near anything from Iron Factory if you like Legends sized figures. They're all good, though the worst of them are the Blaster/his remolds because the altmodes are kind of meh as they used the IDW Blaster altmode which was kind of a shitty design.

MMC's Hexatron, who is basically the gold standard of 3P figures.

MMC's Feral Rex if you want a combiner/want a Predaking. Every individual bot is good and the combined form is too.
>>
>>5780959

Quakeblast/Quakewave, Reximus Prime, Iron Factory Trinity warrior.

>So guys, what are some absolutely must-have 3p figures?

A little bit of everything I guess. Voyager is probably my preferred scale but I can go up to leader if it's something especially nice. I have some 3P stuff already: Commotus and Spartan, Maketoys Quantron, most of the IF releases...

I've been eyeballing Maketoys Cupola. I dig Chromedome and he looks pretty nice...
>>
>>5781108

I'm totally gonna pick that Legends one up too if it turns out as good as Hulkie. I actually want Hulkie myself, but I'm holding out to see if they re-release him at some point with more articulation/some tweaks, since that seems to be a "thing" with them and their Legends sized guys.
>>
I finally caved and decided to start collecting a 3p combiner. Doing it slowly because I'm still a little unsure about it. I got the TFC not-Drillhorn but a little bit worried he's actually going to be shit on his own.

MMC's Anarchus and Reximus Prime are two I really enjoy. If you like Scourge MX-II Andras is a must have imo. But if you aren't a fan of sweeps he's an easy pass.

Anarchus is cool but unless you really like the comics he's not much of a must have since his altmode is definitely non-standard.

>>5781571
I just got hypnos in a couple days ago and so far I do like him. He does have posing issues due to the fat legs. I like the drill-tank mode, but you can't stick a small bot like a headmaster into the cockpit. You have a couple ways to change up the bot mode to help differentiate from Thanatos, but TFC did a good job retooling the parts anyway.

>Grandius Hexatron, Commotus, Cynicus and Anarchus arrived today
>They are all finnicky as fuck

Their individual modes are nice but getting Anarchus to sit flat, Commotus and Cynicus to tab together properly and stay that way is hard as fuck.

Also Grandius has a lot of weird tolerances, especially in the legs and getting the nose cone/gun barrel to stay tabbed together.

Instruction on Grandius were bare bones too.
>>
>>5781906
You sound really picky.
>>
>>5781936
I'm not, I would just appreciate it if Cynicus's legs actually tabbed in solidly to the small gun for sniper rifle mode instead of flopping out at the slightest touch.

Anarchus is tons of fun once you have him sitting proper in chair mode. Cynicus has amazing articulation. Commotus is just plain fun to look at and Grandius screams for fan modes.

I just wish they were a bit tighter. Feral Rex was a much more polished release than this.

Still, they are all better than Stormer.
>>
>>5781906
>>5781944

I don't have any problems with my Cynicus, maybe your tabs need a tiny bit of sanding (too thick?) or some floor polish/nail polish (too thin?).

And yeah Cynicus could damn well sub in for a Revoltech release with all of the manuverability it has. Shit, Hexatron ain't that bad overall either, you can pull some crazy shit with it.

Anyone interested in just the mixmaster parts from the DNA upgrade kit?

Please note, those folding panels are a bit fiddly and have a tendency to come off the little black struts that I show in the picture. I don't think it's this particular one, just a poor design choice in general. Looks good once you get it all sorted especially if you just want to leave it in combined mode.
>>

I want a Soundwave cassette player that actually works well? I've never been too into Transformers but I like figures and I like listening to my cassettes. Does anyone have any recommendations, 3rd party or otherwise? It would be cool if it had a 1/4" headphone jack.

unfortunately Soundwave was just designed to hold cassettes, not actually play them. Music Label is the only one that plays music, but as stated it's in MP3 format via a micro-sd slot
>>
>>5783035
>but as stated it's in MP3 format via a micro-sd slot

Mini SD actually, that odd format that was popular in Japan and nowhere else. But the thing is, between the lack of a screen and its low capacity card support, the thing's obsolete now as a proper MP3 player. Soundwave only supported a 1 GB card, Soundblaster 2GB. I mean, those sizes of card don't stretch very far these days. My MP3 player supports 64GB and I'm looking into a new model that supports two 128GB cards, with my music collection around 45GB now.

The only Soundwave I know that plays cassettes is that non-transforming tape player from the 80s, they do pop up on eBay from time to time.

>Optimus Primal deserved MP plastic before a non-shit Megatron.
>>
>>5784517

Sorry, but the 84 cast deserved full representation well before any BW shit. Atop that, MP Megs sucks balls, Apolloyon isn't any better. MP Megs needs a serious redo in the same way Hot Rod did. No one has perfected an MP styled Megs yet, the closest we've gotten is the DX9 Legends sized gun Megs, which proves that it can be done well, companies just need to stop overcomplicating the transformation.

Shit I'd take an MP sized upscale of the fucking DX9 figure before I'd touch MP Megs or Apolloyon.
>>
>>5784556
Well Maketoys is making their own, and if their track record with MP scale is anything to go by it should be great.

The problem with Megatron is you have to get a very specific robot look to turn into a very specific gun look. DX9's looks cool but it ain't MP, even aside from the size.
>>
>>5779856
>>5784556

I don't know why you think BW figures are taking a slot or whatever from G1 MPs. Takara can make as many MPs as they choose a year, whatever factor is keeping a Megatron 2.0 or Hound or Jazz would've happened regardless of them choosing to make MP Beast wars.

I'd say either Fort Max (IDW ver.) or Star/Victory Saber

>>5784661

I wish they'd make a Nickel. It'd fit perfectly with Legends scale and it's a character no one else seems to be doing at the moment.
>>
>>5784673

>>5784677
This might be a stupid question but could they make a Nickel that still fit in with the other Legends guys? Nickel is tiny, just a bit bigger than Tarn's head, that being said I would love to get her as well.
>>
>>5784691

If they made her just a regular sized Legends figure (or Miko tiny, if you want to go that small) I'm sure no one would complain, to be honest.
