Preparation edition!

You know what holiday is coming up, right? That's right, Talk Like a Pirate day is September 19th! Get to readyin' landlubbers! Ye've a month or two!

Previous: >>5757156
Bionicle/CCBS: >>5754818

June isn't over yet! Remember to take a whirl at one of these June challenges anons:
>Build a minifigure of a Star Wars character that doesn't already have one.
>Build a robot command centre. You figure out what it's supposed to be a robot or command them!
>Build something that's mostly Lego but uses some third party/off brand pieces.
>Build a brick-built wheelchair that looks better than the one in 60134.
>Build something based off of another anon's MOC.
>Fenimiminismninimism- Give your female figs something BADASS to ride around in! Bonus points for minidolls.
>Make a Fighting arena for your two most badass minifigs!
>Go to the Lego aisle at Walmart and startle someone
>Home Sweet Home - In honor of Captain Rex's AT-TE, rebuild a vehicle into a mobile home for your favorite figs.
>June Bride. Set up an impromptu wedding between your sig fig and another fig, or your waifig/husbafig and another. Bonus points for celebrity guests, full musical acts and ultimate points for treating her/him like a princess/prince with a "fairytale wedding" (fancier the better).

Well, if people want me to start running the challenge polls again I can.

Link to this post if you have a suggestion for the July thread challenges! After 10 or so suggestions are posted (please only post one suggestion) I'll make a strawpoll and the top-rated idea(s) will be the July thread challenges!
>>
>>5764155
Oh lighten up anon, I just assumed this thread wouldn't last 'till the Fourth of July and I thought it'd make a nice joke. A new, properly American thread can take this ones' place on that day.

Also

Where'd you wash in from?

>>5764157
>E PLURIBUS UNUM! Anyone can come to America and can be an American. Throw together a figure or minifigure, or group of such expressing pride for their American roots or status. Bonus points for non-humans!

make a summery 8x8 vignette for a minifig of your choice
>>

I like this one too.
>>
>>5764157
>Gather your minifig gang and build a vacation getaway vehicle for them (car, plane or ship)
Or a previous one but still good
>Build a 10x10 vignette for any of this year's CMFs (Disney and Germany soccer team included)
Or
>Pick two mixels from different tribes (any wave) and combine them into something new
>>

A couple days ago I ordered 8 minifigs for 20 bucks from BL because I have a massive hardon for anything sci-fi. Some anon said I paid too much when they were amongst the cheapest on BL (and the store I ordered from is not far away from me, so any money I would've saved by ordering from some chink or yuropoor, I would've lost it in extra shipping cost).

pic unrelated
>>
>>5764219
Yeah, I don't know what that anon was talking about. It seemed like a good deal to me
>>

Lego needs to expand their Microfighter horizons. They're wasting a lot of potential because as of now they only make them for star wars sets, but I think it's about time they started making microfighters for different lines and iconic sets.

>Microfighter Deep Freeze Defender
>Microfighter Classic Space Cruiser

It works out to $2.50 a minifig, which is pretty average for a bunch of no-name dudes factoring in shipping.

I mean, I didn't say anything at the time, but while I don't think you were ripped off or overpaid or anything, for $20 you could've got something a lot cooler. If you were a friend of mine and you asked me before you bought them whether you should, I'd have said no, because they're just really generic.

But presumably you got stuff you liked so it worked out well for you. It's just not too impressive a score.

The blue one has flick-fire missiles and a pretty perfect cockpit design in my opinion. Being blue, I tried to make it as close to the actual Vic Viper as possible while keeping in the GS theme. I even gave it a pair of "Options", which can be arranged at a number of points around the fighter using the two trans-clear extension parts.

Being a purist limits your possibilities and eliminates certain others entirely.
Hell, as shitty as they are I've still kept my old megabloks around. The good quality third-party pieces I keep sorted next to my Lego. The shit quality pieces, usually the blocks themselves, are all in their own bag, which is in a box I keep stowed away for when I want to experiment without ruining something of value first.

Seriously man, they make good accent pieces. Just don't go overboard, and never buy bricks or minifigs that aren't repurposed Lego.
Or Tyco in the related picture's case.
If you happen to buy a set such as the Enlighten's legendary pirate's stuff, just keep them separated and you don't have to worry about it.

It's about the fun/display of it, not brand loyalty.

The ball part is.
The other side is friction fit to allow for a stiff, but movable joint.
They're also made in more sizes and configurations of female to male, male to female, and varying plate-ends as well.

Think of them like more versatile tiny bionicle joints.

Remember how the old towball pieces used to just hang loosely when they're connected? In 2014, Lego introduced a new family of parts that use the old ball size, while upping the friction. They're super useful in adding moving joints to your builds, because the friction allows the parts to hold poses.

The "mixel joint" term comes from the small Mixels sets (also introduced in 2014), cute creature builds that are cheap and reliable ways to obtain these joint pieces.

http://ldd.lego.com/
LEGO Digital Designer. It's an official program that comes with brick connections written in, and it contains a majority of the company's vast parts library.

It's been with us for around a decade now, but it continues to do good work. Updates come in very rarely nowadays, but Lego's developers have not given up yet.
>>
Planning on making a huge order ($300-$400) in august. What is the best way to get as many buses from it as I can? Do I just make a few throwaway accounts and order everything to my house or is Lego smart enough to realize Stu D. Brickerton I, II, and III are not real people?
>>
>>5764866
keep in mind there are some odd or old pieces missing (like 1x2 half walls with square edges instead of round) and some of the more creative uses of bricks don't work in LDD because they're not LEGAL LEGOâ„¢ CONNECTIONSâ„¢
>>
>>5764872
You can always do multiple orders from the same account on the same day to the same address. Lego won't mind.

Heck, if you make the same purchase in a Lego Store, the cashier will be happy to give you as many bonus sets as is applicable.

Oh, I should add that just a little effort and time is needed to get the sides apart. There's absolutely no need to use a prybar or boiling the horse to take it apart.

Just work slow and wiggle the sides until you can just pull them away Pressing your fingers on the inside of the legs and releasing over and over is enough to wiggle it apart without ruining anything.

Dunno about the new horses though. I assume the back legs would make it more difficult to do.

Brickficency has shut down and is no longer supported, even says so on the programs website. This is because the new version of bricklink basically does everything brickficency already did.

Regarding file-importing errors, an anon a few threads back worked out that if you try and upload an lxf file to bricklink with any of the newest pieces(the ones that were added in that update not long ago) in the file bricklink doesnt recognaise it.

>Both the Knowhere Escape Mission and the Milano are still collecting dust in a couple for stores in my area.
Don't mean this harshly man but can we PLEASE stop using shelf life of a few straggler sets as evidence of failure?

Almost all LEGO sets except ones that were pulled out of circulation abruptly sit on shelves for a long time until they hit some arbitrary clearance threshold. Even unequivocally successful lines like Star Wars have their sets shelfwarm.
>>
>>5767079
I just say it because in the meantime, the AoU Hulkbuster was restocked 2 times in the same store, for example.
Granted, the first batch was likely scalped, but I think thye do notice when some sets sell well and others don't. Which is what pretty much happened in regards to the mixels series.
Some stores still have an almost complete lot of series 6, which is a shame since series 7 is already out of circulation.
>>
>>5767097
Right but I think those situations are just evidence of really successful lines, not evidence that every line that doesn't do that is a failure. Otherwise every line almost is a failure.

Also you have to compare like sets to like sets. That $30 Hulkbuster is both cheaper and more appealing to young kids than the GOTG sets mentioned. It's basically an action figure. The Knowhere Escape is a pretty crummy playset and the Milano an awesome - but expensive - spaceship.

RIP in pieces...

I'm selling her. I don't want to, but I really need the money. Almost a decade ago I I got it.

I've already sold off almost all my other UCS and valuable lego sets, but I saved this one for last because I really didn't want to let it go.

Anyways, does anyone have any experience selling their own lego collections? I have a shit ton of pieces, probably 300k+ I'd estimate from about 20 years of collecting that I want to sell, all completely sorted by part type. I have no idea where to begin though, which is why I've just been selling my most valuable sets individually for now.

If you want some quick cash, just throw em all to Ebay as an unsorted lot.

Or you could set up an BL store, but managing it can take a fair share of time and effort. You would still make a bit more than from Ebay
>>
>>5767749
Set up a bricklink store. You'll make a lot more money that you would have selling the collection in bulk.
>>
>>5767764
>>5767768
I was thinking about bricklink, but I just don't have the time to manage a store like that. A fair amount of my pieces were from ordering on Bricklink though.

Selling it in a bulk lot would be very difficult, I'd need something like a fucking pallet to ship everything, shipping would probably be in the hundreds of dollars. I think I could make at least $12-15k from my collection alone.

I'm probably just going to continue selling it set-by set. The pain in the ass is my entire collection aside from the UCS I was selling has been disassembled and sorted.

older pic of my collection related.
>>
>>5767749
>I don't want to, but I really need the money.
Sorry to hear that. And good luck.

If you set up a bricklink store, some proof that it's yours will help. Just a photo with a handwritten note in it should do. There've been more than a few scams with people selling the UCS Falcon cheap, then disappearing; judging by the BL forum at least people are paranoid. Though having other items/parts in your store will help.

Also if you set up a store, post link here.
>>
>>5767782
>I was thinking about bricklink, but I just don't have the time to manage a store like that.

Might still be possible. I've seen a few 'liquidating collection, bulk purchase only' stores; you can set lot limits where people can buy only x50, x100, or all of a specific part, or a total purchase minimum.

>>5767814
>>5767819
I may just set up a store for selling the Falcon at least. Does bricklink have fees for selling, and how much faster / slower would the Falcon sell there compared to ebay?

I just don't have the time to catalog and count the hundreds of thousands of pieces I have by condition and whatnot. That entire process would take months of my time sadly.

I have everything except the box it came in which I stupidly threw out years ago. Instructions are in alright shape, and all the pieces are basically like the day I assembled it, aside from a few very minor scratches here and there from dusting it over the years. It's also a first edition (#1318) not that I know if that even makes a difference, I mean it's not like the set is unique or special in the pieces or whatever from non-first editions.
>>
>>5767885
>>5767889
wait whaaaaa? these aren't out yet?
>>
>>5767891
Selling a complete set with instructions on ebay is better than on BL, especially for movie sets - you want a stupid casual to hit the ebay BIN button, and there's no casuals on BL. Take pics of it assembled and know shipping weight for the listing and you're good. Keep the sob story short.

Your sorted fuckhuge piles pieces can be bagged and sold by the pound or approximate count pretty quick on ebay compared to BL too - you're looking to move the lot at once, not 5 now 11 next week etc. If your sorted parts are in any type of plastic drawers so much the better as you can bag the pieces in the drawers then wrap the drawers and box the whole thing up.

tl;dr ebay is your friend

75092 Naboo Starfighter - $32.31

76029 Iron Man Vs Ultron - $10.79

After that I'm going to tear the prototype apart and make it into an interceptor.

Help.
Also managed to get mask maker/skull grinder for cheap and skull warrior for free, in addition to picking up forest animals creator set. As my first bonkle since 2002-ish, the skull warrior was pretty neat to build and looks like a ton of fun to pose and use as a giant boss enemy for minifigs. I also really like the masks from these two as they are kind of similar to the mask from splatterhouse and this.

The set uses a cheater rubber wheel to move both the tracks in one direction. I had this intricate system implemented that used two rubber wheels so you could move the tracks in different directions to turn. But it turns out my rubber wheels were either too big or too small to make it work, so i reverted the system back to stock. One day i'll find some good wheels to use my own system again.
I also modded the cabin to seat two minis side-by-side and gave it working doors.
Then i added an old actual working winch with a crank to the back, plus some lego boat weights to counterbalance the weight from the cabin and move the centre of gravity to about above the centre cheater wheel.

Best 29,99 eurodollars i spent on a set in a while.

Hey guys, I got a question regarding LEGO tank treads. Which would be the most ideal for a Power Functions RC threaded vehicle capable of off-roaming conditions? I've seen Sariel make one out of those wide snap-together plastic treads, but I call heresy. Any tips?

I've been wondering, and I figured I should ask you guys. I only recently got back into lego and I bought Jay's Elemental Dragon about a week ago. I planned on mixing it with the new police mixels, but having built all the mixels, I don't think they'd work to make something better looking. I planned on returning it since the dragon is unopened, but I considered maybe combining it with Eris' Eagle Interceptor, since I had one displayed in my room for a few years now, basically untouched.

TL;DR, would these two "mesh" well or should I return the dragon and use the $30 to get some other set?
>>
Ya know what liscense lego could do well with?
Overwatch. A good CMF line with maybe a dimensions tie in and an Ideas set with the main 4 (tracer, Winston, widowmaker, reaper)

>>
>>5770387
Yeah I guess it's possible. If I remember correctly Blizz and Megablocks aren't partnered any more, so if they really wanted to blizz and lego can see about becoming partners.

>>5770392
The problem with bastion being that you could only ever get 2 of his 3 transformations into a physical figure. His turret and scout mode transformations are fine, no problems there. But his tank mode is fucking retarded.

Because the tank mode was designed and added into his kit long after his character was designed, it uses a ludicrous amount of hammerspace for his transformation sequence. The caterpillar treads and tank barrel literally appear out of thin air and aren't found anywhere on his scout form. You could work-around this issue by just making him a parts-former, but that's pretty lame.

I guess.
I think with the way they've been doing videogames and films from the past few decades that iconic characters would be next.
With Sonic incoming, I'd be surprised if they didn't end up striking up a deal to include Mario.
Or Alien. I could also easily see a Bill and Ted set.
With the obsession over '80s films though...
I'd wager Conan, Labyrinth, The Neverending Story, Beetlejuice... maybe Beverly Hills Cop?
I'd love to see The Thing, but that's way too adult. Freddy/Jason is probably the most extreme they'd go if they did horror at all. Which is a shame because Evil Dead would work, too.

All in all?
I want The Princess Bride. The tone fits LEGO perfectly. And that's just the '80s.
>>
>>5770467
>I could also easily see a Bill and Ted set
ah yes, that movie that all the kids (who are the main audience) would know and love

same goes for Beverly Hills Cop. because kids will see the generic black guy from the lego city sets and go ITS FOLEY
How would hit set work out? a stripclub set? maybe a set with a box of coffee beans with a few white bricks?

seriously friend, try thinking a bit more realistically

Gremlins, Back to the Future, the original Ghostbusters, The A-Team of all things.

I AM thinking realistically even if it's on the far-shot side of it. Don't forget what we're talking about here. Most of those franchises don't have full sets; just a minifig or two along with a vehicle or something to throw into the mix.

That said, another one I forgot to mention was the Blues Brothers.

there are alot more popular movies with the kids than our old as hell movies.
Fuck, why not get our hopes up for the terminator, matrix and men in black while we are at it

FUCK WHY NOT PUT PULP FICTION IN THERE ASWELL. KIDS LOVE THAT SHIT
>>
>>5770523
Men in Black I could see.
That said, who said any of us actually like these movies?
Fuck, I don't like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, A-Team, or Gremlins.
Yet two of those are themes and the other two are dimensions sets no one expected.
Popular things ARE getting sets. Angry Birds? Who the hell wanted that?
>>
>>5770523
While I generally agree with your point, LEGO has shown an inclination to cater towards adult fans in Dimensions, with Gremlins/A-Team/Knight Rider/Beetlejuice etc.

None of these are known properties to kids. It seems like they're mixing those nostalgia licenses in with the kid licenses like Harry Potter and Adventure Time. So Bill & Ted, Blues Brothers seems pretty reasonable as possibilities to me.

Alien, The Thing, Beverly Hills Cop, fucking MASH, not so much.
>>
>>5770523
A Team.

Show me one millenial who even fucking knows who Mr. T is. Seriously. Hell, same with Gizmo. Most fuckers kid age wont know Gremlins. And M:I kind of rules out the no mil rule for a fucking MASH reference. Im sure theres way more PG shit in MASH that could be referenced, also fuck it, A Team was a bunch of soldiers for hire, theres your Mil Reference right there.
>>
Also, fucking tired of fucks being like "hur dur, when will lego make a team fortress set?" FUCKING OVERWATCH, REALLY? You cunts are just as bad as the idiots submitting LoZ sets to Ideas and then bitching when it just gets ignored. Adventure Time was obviously a licensed deal that was already going through. Nintendo properties though? Blizzard (who already fucked their chances with lego due to WoW) properties?

Don't know about where your from, but Mr T has transcended A-Team for 2 decades now. You don't need to personally know him from the original show, Rocky III, his moments in WWF, or in Snickers adverts, as the person/character has been imitated, quoted, and parodied so much in all mediums.
>>

SORRY.

Just saw all that BS about overwatch sets and have seen some scuttlebutt about Team Fortress.

TF MAYBE, because portal exists. But blizzard properties? Go to MegaBloks for that.

And the Mr. T stuff, fair enough. I personally am happy as FUCK that he is getting an OFFICIAL minifig. I am happy as FUUUUUUUUCK that the Hoff might be getting some recognition, especially since he has come out as flat broke and suffering right as Baywatch is getting remade starring the rock.

Sorry. I am just kind of shocked that so many oddball 80s properties are actually getting lego figs. Hell, when I was a kid, I would have KILLED for an ecto 1 or a Delorean. This shit though.....its a mind fuck.

Kind of waiting for a Keith David/Rowdy Piper THEY LIVE dimensions set!
>>
>>5770467 Here.
Jesus Christ.
Remind me not to tow the line.
I'd like to simply re-state that I'm seeing a trend in what's being actually produced and making some guesses as to what may be next.
Horror is almost assuredly out, but with Gremlins and Ghostbusters, the horror themes in sets/CMF, I'm not ENTIRELY sure that's the case considering what they've done with some of the more adult themes.
Still, I think if it's from the '80s and was even remotely popular, it's now a possibility.

Imagine what we would have said a year ago about someone suggesting Gremlins or the A-Team.
Or years back and suggesting Indiana Jones. (Seriously, Nazis and Religion. The hell, TLC?)
>>
>>5770576
Dont even bring up Indy and Nazis.

The shitposts and idiots will fuck with you for days my man.
>>
>>5770579
Lego's choices just seem to be all over is all.
It's not really Indy specifically, just the first thing that came to mind. Seriously, Spinal Tap will continue to confound me til the day I die, as awesome as it was.

I know that it's great for those of us that grew up enjoying these things and are (still) into Lego now, but it makes me question what's next. Unfortunately things that seemed unlikely then are becoming -most- likely now. The shitposting and anger coming from it are slightly surprising, honestly.
>>
>>5770590
Wait, is there actually confirmation of SPINAL TAP?
>>
>>5770597
LEGO Rock Band.
Short and Sweet was a song in it, along with minifig representations of the band members.

Which is highly ironic considering LEGO was willing to sue over the use of a Lego themed stop motion short being included on the Spinal Tap DVD some years ago.

Yeah.
>>
>>5770604
Yeah, just did the google for it. Fucking hell.

I would think lego could be a little tongue in cheek about that. Not like the TAP is going to corrupt their fanbase and steal their money with a little video.

This is one reason why I am so adamant about telling people in these threads to go third party as their needs arise. Lego gets enough cash from us that they can lose a little if the chinks are willing to do something they wont. This isnt Games Workshop losing literally THOUSANDS to real army builders and 3D printing.

Fucking hell, suing THE TAP for using a little video after lego themselves used THE TAP......

Hope Mr. T thinks his minifig is cultural appropriation and RAYCISS and sues.
>>
>>5770611
>Fucking hell, suing THE TAP for using a little video after lego themselves used THE TAP......

They THREATENED to sue, and would have likely lost, but everyone involved felt it just wasn't worth the effort.
It was years AFTER that they used THE TAP in their game.

If anything, it seems to me that it was kinda like everyone made up in the end. But that doesn't excuse how "inappropriate" it seemed.

Speaking of third party, I'm heavily considering getting some pieces printed in the future if I can get the money together.
I really want a Space Ghost crew.

Very much doubt it, at least if you're talking about the original Arnie movie. Indiana Jone's use of Nazis and implied gory deaths have nothing on Thulsa Doom presiding over an orgy while his kitchens cook up human body parts.

Doubt it. Beverly Hills Cop is one of those essential 80s movies, that people keep forgetting was 80s because it never really broke into modern pop culture like Mr. T did. Also, the most well know part of BHC is the main theme, which most people now know as "That stupid fucking frog!"
