Those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

00R - left MG, right RG.jpg
1MB, 1323x4086px
Just finished topcoating RG 00 Raiser. It just looks plain wrong, so here's my opinion on where it loses to its MG, which I feel is the best 00R to date.
However, anyone who cares most likely already has their own, so I'll keep my opinions to this one post.

My gripes with the RG version :

1. Arms are fat and stumpy.
2. Shoulders are too wide, which gets in the way when the drive binders are in the down position.
3. GN Drive cones are too small. The defining feature of 00 is that it has twin drives, but they don't stand out enough on the RG.
4. Binder lock only closes in two positions, so in any other angle, there's an very visible ugly gap in the blue holder part.
5. Face vents too far apart. Although personally, I think having no face vents at all would have been the best.
6. Gray and red parts of mid-to-lower torso are too blocky. They're almost the same width too, meaning there's no definition in the waistline.
7. MG's legs are slim and curvy, RG's are stubby and blocky (seems to be an overall theme with RG 00R). Especially evident in the ankle guards; where the MG's gently curve outward and give the calf a smooth tapering silhouette, the RG's are about the same width as the calf themselves and just go straight down.

There are places, however, where I feel the RG is absolutely superior, which is why I don't regret getting it.

1. More attractive decals.
2. GN Sword 3 can attach to 0 Raiser directly without any additional part needed.
3. 0 Raiser can connect to an action base without having the GN Sword 3 beneath it.
4. Much more vibrant clear green parts and the awesome shiny green stickers underneath really make them eye-catching.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, since the RG is supposed to be its own unique thing, not a downscaled MG. But the 00 Raiser is my favorite MS, so there.
>>
>>5612434
Makes me wonder how much improvement will the 00 Qan T have over the MG as an RG.

the only way origins ver Zaku would be better is if it came with the normal zaku machine gun.

+lots of panel lines
+new chest design for improved arm and stomach articulation
+better proportions

-no zaku machine gun

if they release a grunt version I would buy 10 of them they're that good

it looks like the lining equivalent of when someone has lots of grime under their fingernails

The power symbols on the shoulders knees and chest. If he took a little bit of bare-metal, he could lay it on top of the part, work it into the recess with a toothpick or clay shaping tool, and then cut the rest off quick and easy with an x-acto knife. Bam. Bright and shiny details.

Um duh? Even with a wash some nooks and corners hold more color, you can only wipe away so much, and there will still be a smear or two. Paneling is just there to accentuate the surface detail.

you can compare your lining to a STRAIGHT LINE and it is objectively NOT
>>

*mic drop*
>>
>>5614098

that's not a mic drop you retard, it's not like your kit suddenly looks good

I'm not posting a kit for 2 reasons
1. I have no desire to show who I am on here unlike you and your trip
2. Even if I couldn't panel line, which is retardedly easy, it doesn't make YOUR kit any better
>>
>>5614098
>>5614114

and honestly the rest of the kit is fine, I'm just confused why you decided to pretend the lining didn't matter at all, and now are trying to say it's actually fine
>>
>>5614080

>>
>>5614098

You don't need to be a pro to tell a straight line from a crooked one.

Whether or not other people can do it doesn't change the fact that you didn't.

Also:

>>5614330

he's not the only one either

look how much of a mess there is by that shoulder

the smudge is taller than his eyes, would you be ok with the suit missing an eye?
>>
>>5614330

You've been told why, you dismissed it.

Next time, rescribe your fucking panels lines if your paint job pooled and vanished them. Then, you'll be able to get cleaner lines.

Also, take a little more care in cleaning them up next time. Like the right pauldron in your picture. The panel where the two sections meet, why is there a smudge there? Or on the side of the head?

It's white, man. It shows imperfections really well.
>>
>>5614330
For starters even out panel lines and symbols, second don't let paint bleed into spots you don't want it to bleed into.
And third all parts of the process are important, you can't be lazy about it, if you're making a clean look put in the effort to make it clean and get rid of the smudges.

still working on the origin shield

hopefully nearing the end of the shield phase, this is just test primer because I just put down pieces and have lots more putty to sand off.

this has been lots of work but really fun. I'm especially happy with the angled plate on the top half, that was tough to do on the edges. I'm going to shave the thickness down though

I apologize, people kept asking about WIP and also when I posted before the thread was about to die. This'll be the last I post of it until I get further into the project. I dunno, I like the way the shoulders look.

Got the idea from this custom, figured I'd do it myself. It'll get painted when I have the right weather. I was able to get it to pull the gun higher up, but even so the movement range isn't great. Shame I bought it before the GBF and Revive Goufs were out.

Most ship models make RG feel about as small and difficult to build as a duplo block set.
>>
>>5615373
Anyway, ship building requires gitgud levels of skill, unless they're submarines. Especially the fact that military models dont have the same QC and production quality of Bandai kits, much less the newer RGs. If you don't do your research, you might end up buying a kit molded 40 years ago.

Just build cheap HGs and gitgud, or if you want a change of pace, planes and tanks are good places to start with. I have a couple of 1/72 Trumpeter tanks to build when I'm bored of robots.

Pinning is the way to go.

There are ships that are easier to build, but you wont get quite the autistic amount of details. Personally, I quite like U-Boats because they aren't just a giant dildo, and has a pretty nice profile. Just pick something simple and easy to obtain, and practice.

Pic related from the 1/72 Trumpeter Merkava, the instruction booklet is just a single sheet of paper.

This is very well done generally but the skirts look REALLY out of place. like they're just big shapes hovering over its crotch. The flat bottoms are very jarring and don't really match the lines or flair of the MS design. They also completely hide the thighs, so the front skirts sort of replace them visually and make it appear that his thighs taper up and get super thin and also attach very high up on his hips.

Sorry, cause it does look like you worked very hard on this, but those skirts have gotta go. Redo those, maybe with a different shape or make em thinner, and you'll have a classic on your hands baby.

Step 1. Thin yo paints
Step 2. Work on your posing.

I got it direct from Volks, but the actual company that does it is Zoukei-Mura? Not sure how that works, but it seems volks is the main distributor.

There exists a shamrock kit, as well as a variety of detail up parts for both tanks.

Surprised it isn't more well known actually, Senjou no Valkyria has great concept art, it was like a dream come true when they announced the kit.
>>
>>5616250
Don't buy a new kit.

Buy tools and learn how to use them. Every model you make is once in a lifetime. If you want a decent looking red warrior, you now have to rebuy it, costing you time and effort you could have put into new projects you want to do.
>>
>>5616316
Alternatively, buy old, cheap kits and use them for practice.
>>
>>5616296
What types of paint are you using, because most paints don't adhere well to plastics. Like the others have said, paint jobs look a lot better when you thin you paints and do multiple, thin coats in perpendicular directions. This help paint not to pool up, and reduces and can even eliminate the visibility of your brush strokes.

The answer is probably not using primer, and over thinning. Hand painting is hard to get right.

>>
>>5617098
Hasegawa, Revell, Trumpter, Tamiya, Kitty Hawk, Hobby Boss to name a few

Personally, I think F-16s are really cute
>>
>>5617098
Just get a 1/144 kit of a jet you like. Then try a 1/72.

One of my first model kits was a 1/144 harrier or a 1/144 F18.

I wanted to make a Harrier diorama either doing its VTOL off a CV or landing for the longest time, but muh backlog

1/144 planes are easy as shit to build and only require a mild step up in painting and puttying experience from gunpla.

they make pretty much everything in 1/144, Harriers are easy to come by and there have been a few flight deck display sets released but i cant find any in stock right now. most large manufacturers like Dragon, Trumpeter and Hasegawa have large 1/144 lines; Zvezda makes nice helicopters and Revell has made a good comeback with some really sharp new molds instead of just reusing their old stuff from the 90s.

some do have surprisingly detailed cockpits, my F-117 has a control stick and the Super Hornet has actual decals for the control panel. though at the same time others have either an empty hole or just a flat surface under the canopy, which is a little underwhelming to say the least. jumping up to 1/72 does a lot to improve that area.
>>
>>5617220
How about sanding it down from the back then buffing out the scratches?
>>
>>5617232
Sounds like a lot of effort for an uncertain gain.
Also
>don't even care much about

The only reason I added those details in the first place was that Trumpeter bothered to include the stick and some decent details on the sides but literally nothing in the front.

I probably shouldn't have lined the ankleguards and the tiny spots around the red codpiece. Not too sure about the calves either.

The lines on the shins could have been as thick as those on the thighs, but I was trying for faint lines initially.

Finished this guy today. Learned a lot of about painting using rattle cans. Also learned a lot about how much the tiniest bit of humidity affects your paint finish.

>>5618420

>>
>>5618440
its not revive and its 3 years old. But your right all my models need to be cleaned
>>
>>5618433
Yea gold is pretty finicky to work with. Small changes in Temperature and humidity had big effects on the way the finish came out. Just a hair bit too cold and it'd come out with a more foggy finish. A bit too humid and it'd be a diffused spread.

>>5618442
The whole thing has a minor grain to it. As far as I can tell it's a result of using a giant rattle cans. The parts that aren't gold weren't painted, just flat coated.
>>
>>5618448
The gold is nice, but everything else is just bland looking in comparison
>>
>>5618459
That's a fair assessment. The intent was to make the gold standout against everything else.

I need to go back and panel line parts, but with it having a Matte coat to the parts I'm afraid I'll fucking up the panel lining.
>>
>>5618430
What gold did you use? I'm debating what Tamiya rattle can gold (except champagne) I'm going to buy
>>
>>5618501
You couldve atleast painted the rest to be matte, the gold would still stand out instead of being painted parts standing outta unpainted parts
>>
>>5618505
Rustoleum's American Accents. Tried like 6 different golds and it gave the most chrome like finish.

>>5618517
True. I could've. I couldn't find a grey to match the one on the kit so I opted to just matte coat the other parts. Plus I'm a little tight on cash right now and I had matte coat on hand.
