Those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

If you mean the exact kits, I'm looking at a couple on E2046, Dairaioh and Gunleon (Maybe Huckebein boxer?)
>>
>>5603817
It's a great little kit. Lots of accesories and the base unit is good too. My only complaint is that the "Shopping Cart of Doom" gimmick is kind of lame.
>>
>>5603876
I used a bunch of parts of it for a custom, so it's neat in that regard too.
>>
Just noticed something and it has me wondering:

We are all used to looking for the gunpla reissue schedule at the first of the month. As far as I know, they don't release it until the 1st.
On April 8th, Hobbysearch put out their gundam model kits news email. It has tons of preorders for reissued 1/144 HG SEED kits, for June.

How do they have preorders up for June reissues? Is there some kind of retailer advance order list?
>>
>>5603913
Major retailers and distributors get the lists in advance and the lists themselves are compiled months in advance (Which is how Derringer always knows about upcoming releases). The one we see on the 1st is just the publicly released list.

there arnt MG versions yet and the old 1990s kit arnt worth the trouble.

Legend BB is my favorite line right now, and I always recommend it to newcomers. The kits are pretty easy, yet satisfying builds, and they typically have AMAZING color separation with minimal stickering. Plus at least one vac metalized part in every kit, which is really nice.
>>
Okay, so I wanna know how to paint intricate parts without slop. I see some builds with insanely clean paintjobs on areas that I simply can't imagine hitting cleanly with a brush or being able to mask off with tape successfully. And yes, I have some very fine brushes, and my hands are relatively steady...I just don't get it. I feel like I'm missing a piece of this puzzle.

Part of me thinks the Efreet looks totally rad. A smaller part of me thinks the design is a little stupid and edgy feeling and the particular shades of color they chose look like cheapo crap. I dunno. I'm probably gonna buy it no matter what anyway since it's pretty cheap and Re/100 is my favorite line right now.
>>
I'm pretty new to Zoids in general, so all I really knew of was the HMM kits. And then the other day I found out there were all these designs and toys and shit that existed in like, the 80s and 90s, and there are a TON of rad ones. I want HMMs of some of those guys! How often does Koto generally release new Zoids HMMs?

Building is kinda my mindless zen, so ...ehhh? I dunno.
>>
Do you guys determine your paintscheme from what colours are available or from what looks best?
>>
>>5604767
Little of both. Tamiya makes about every color you could want, and about thirty shades of green, grey and blue for military stuff. Just dont go with really garish or clashing colors and you should be fine.
>>
>>5604756
>>5604756
Difficult to answer right now, we really can't predict for sure atm. In the past with the first hmm 'chapter' we saw saw a fairly large number of releases each year. However if you want to include strictly new designs that number was pretty low, usually two iirc. But if you increased the restrictions to include models that are mostly the same but have some new stuff aside from just reprints, the number was closer to maybe four a year of new things after the first two or so years of the line.

Then the 'chapter' ended in 2013, it finally restarted last fall with the release of the deathstinger which had been announced over a year ago iirc. The wonfes immediately after that saw them revealing the next hmm was the iron Kong pk variant which has a lot of new stuff going on. it is releasing in August, so we should hear something at the next wonfes for after that release. it seems they are starting off slow atm with this second chapter of the line, one entirely new and really pricey kit for its size, and one remake with a lot of new stuff that while not too pricey for its size, is still very pricey in the first place. Although one could perhaps count the command wolf repackage as being part of this.

They might be testing the waters first with big lower numbers produced models that they will be more likely to sell a larger percentage of while news spreads that they are back in action. But who knows at this point.

Okay so, the listing for the Guarayakha Special says

>To celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Virtual On Cyber Troopers," Hasegawa releases this special kit of Guarayakha!

And then there's this display of pics, which is confusing to say the least. I mean, I assume that giant orange thing is way too big for the 3360 yen price tag, but on the other hand, if this is just a Guarayakha repaint, why does it cost more than the standard one? And for that matter, which is it? The pink or the red? I'm so confused as to what I could potentially be buying here.

While we're at it, how are the Hasegawa Virtual On kits? This might be my first, if I can figure out what it is I'm getting.
>>
>>5604816
It looks...sorta cool, but isn't this just another retool of that one kit that everyone says is really troublesome and full of problems? Also, that sniper rifle (?) is hilariously massive and I imagine the kit can't actually support its weight.

I don't mind the treads though. They're okay.

>>
>>5604841
Not sure what you mean by it being a retool. It is two kits that you can combine together in a variety of ways. The picture you are looking at has the two kits attached to a third kit which is a full frame arms kit and not an add on like the other two. So the shield and gun bit do not go with the two Add ons but most likely to the frame arms upper body that is in the middle. The actual kits being promoted are the treads/legs and the big guns backpack at the very top. You can easily tell the difference because the products being promoted are painted and detailed while the frame arms is bare plastic.

You combine them to make a large exot suit you can put FAGs, figmas, etc inside of. They are designed to be extremely modular and customizable

Also i wonder what his logic for what Koto kits to cover and which to not is, I want to see dalong doing silly poses with the F.A.G.s
>>
>>5605925
The only logic I can see behind his not doing the bb legends is that he doesn't have those hundreds of old bb senshi either. He also doesn't have sengokuden kits. It may just be a thing where there are too many of the things out there and he doesn't feel like commiting to getting all of them so he's sticking to the ones from the main series.

I feel like the EW version of the Shenlong looks better with the Tallgeese's halberd than its own beam trident.

Something about how the bigger shield looks next to it.

Hasegawa isn't a very good brand from what I hear. Plastic is very cheap and brittle, very easy to screw something up and bust a part, especially if you're a bandai fag that's used to being very abusive to your kits.

Personally I wouldn't go for a hasegawa kit just because I've dealt with volks which is pretty brittle as is, I can't imagine something more cheaply made than that. That and hasegawa doesn't do oratorio tangram, which is what I grew up with and will only buy kits for.
>>
>>5606136
Oh yeah?

I heard the DM TG wasn't bad.

Hasegawa are decent quality but mostly deal with the military/ship/aircraft end of the market & definitely arent friendly to snapfags or people without modelling skills.

Having built several of their virtual on kits, the plastic definitely isnt cheap, the fragility comes from extreme colour separation resulting in tiny parts, some very thin. You are right someone used to bandai snapkits only would probably wreck one. Also the ridiculous amount of waterslides on some of the VO kits is insane.

Koto Virtual on kits are MUCH better, pity they dont have the license anymore, I would love to see them produce another line as good as their Tangram kits.

So I'm going to be doing my first order from mandarake ever.

I placed an order yesterday, and the site told me that an invoice will be received in 3 days. Email just came in now, asking if I want to apply for insurance?

I'm paying ~9000 yen in total and will be using EMS shipping. Do I need to insure my package? From the page they sent me, it seems like EMS covers for packages under 20,000 yen?
>>
>>5607684
dont need to pay extra insurance, unless you live in a dodgy country, i suppose.

also, might be useful to ask them how much DHL is, sometimes it's a couple hundred yen cheaper.

Does SAL ship to PO Box offices? This is my main concern in choosing what shipping method I want to use.

I have a query for anyone that actually owns one of the original Koto HMM Geno Saurers. I would like to start by saying that I am well aware of the problems that plague this kit, but despite that I still really want one [no spoilers]and I already have the Berserk Fury, I just also would really like a GS.[/ontoy]

So mostly what I'm curious about is how well your Geno Saurer has held up over the years. Is it still in one piece? Does the idea of posing it terrify you? Is it worth the hassle at all, or would it be better to just get a later release and paint it like the original? If anyone here has owned one or kept it around for a long time, I'd just like to know what your experience was.
>>
>>5607766

As long as someone signs for the delivery, I don't see why not.

EMS is exactly the same in that regard, as is DHL.
>>
>>5607771
Using Canada Post as my PO Box (they offer free PO Box office storage). I guess they sign for the delivery, I've ordered shit from Volks before and had them deliver to my PO Box office with no issues (granted I used EMS, hence why I thought to follow the same procedure).

You know i noticed that Gundams designed for sniping is pretty rare. Why is that?
>>
>>5609167
Gundams, or MS in general?

For gundams specifically, the gundam is usually the lead or a prominent character. Snipers aren't really prominent in most scenes since they have to be a long way off from the target to work effectively, and it's not seen as very heroic either.

For MS in general it's kind of like artillery MS. Yeah they exist, but does it really have any justification for needing to be a giant humanoid robot to fill the role?
>>
>>5609171
For Gundams i mean. The concepts interesting to do. But that's just me wanting something like Sniper Duels between a Gundam and an enemy Sniper mech.
>>
>>5609167
Ships already fulfill this function and with greater firepower. Ship sensors have far greater range than any MS and ship cannons are usually depicted as being able to reach further than any MS weaponry can, which is why ships can start firing from afar and MS can't do anything except close in and get into range.

>>
>>5609217
Nu HWS, V2 (Buster), Dynames, Cherudim, Freedom, Strike Freedom, Exia R3, Zabanya, and Lightning all explicitly have sniping capabilities.

Meanwhile Wing, Wing Zero, X, DX, Launcher Strike, Buster, Blast Impulse, Blue Frame, and probably some AGE variants don't straight up have a sniping display but possess weapons with ridiculously long range so they may as well be snipers.

Yesterday I said I was put off getting into gunpla because I'm concerned it might bite it: to clarify, even though there's a lot of stuff available now. If bandai drop it then they'll no doubt stop reprinting kits and I really can't be bothered busting my ass for models.

Maybe in another couple decades when they go full pachinko like konami or something.
>>

Oh yeah, sure, they'll just blow up their factories, destroy all their molds, and personally search and destroy every kit in existence.

If you don't want to do it, then just say that. Stop coming up with stupid excuses.

Is anyone else disappointed in the proportions of the 1/100 Grimgerde, or is it just me? The arms are longer and the torso is shorter with less of a waist section, for example. Head seems bigger too. It just seems...clunkier, and not as cool looking as the 1/144. And that kills me, because I really wanted a bigger version of this fucker.
>>
>>5609434
Plamo is a time honored fucking tradition, Bandai are at the top of the plamo game, and it has never been more popular. They're never gonna stop, it's a HUGE moneymaker for them and nobody can match their quality and engineering. So stop being such a fearful little shit and either do it or don't.
>>
>>5609329
I meant more for being in the same category as the 'not dedicated snipers but might as well be with ridiculous long range weapons.' Compared to the standard beam rifles the previous gp series used, it's got to be a really long range weapon.

Also does anyone know just what the heck all those grips and triggers are for on it? Especially the third one that looks like a motorcycle handle, that always bothered me, cause I already guess the other two are the firing trigger and the beam bayonet trigger. It doesn't seem to have anything else that a third trigger would be needed for.
>>
>>5609652
If they are reusing inner frame parts from the other 1/100 then it's certainly possible they are screwing with proportions.
>>5609434
Even if they suddenly stop making kits at all, it will be a decent number of years before the price sees significant rise. Look at the zoids kits for example, took a couple years after the line went on hiatus before koto saw the need for reissuing them. And I don't think they were doing a steady stream of reissues during the production of new kits either, so many of those reissues were a much greater time period then just a couple years.

Don't Forget that the GM Sniper Custom pilot,Tenneth A. Jung was the Federation's highest scoring ace, with a kill record of 149 mobile suits shot down and 3 ships destroyed during The One Year War.

Honestly I see Sniper Units have a very good use as Mobile Suits while ships can hit very far they still need a unit to move around quicker than a ship and take down units that ships can't handle while retaining a good amount of power and flexibility.

Any opinions on either of the RG GP-01s? Any issues I should know about?

Also, I'm not sure what's going wrong exactly, but the collapsible calf panel on my RG Z'Gok doesn't seem to be working right. It feels like it's getting "stuck" somehow, and when I do finally get it the knee to bend, it partially pops the calf armor apart when I straighten the leg! Is this just an issue with this kit, or did I actually do something wrong here?

Can anyone recommend me a good masking fluid? I have one that I bought for unrelated watercoloring projects, but it's sorta thick and goopy and I can't really see using it for precision masking on Gunpla.

Also, I'm pretty new to masking on Gunpla, but do I need to worry about the fluid peeling off other layers of paint if I'm doing a multi-layered paintjob?

Liquid mask is not all it's cracked up to be, I think eventually as you build a lot you learn that it just seems intuitively attractive but it's really kind of a trap.

It has several good uses but they are pretty specific. Often you are better off masking with tape because it is extremely exact and can do most things better. You only put the time in once with tape. For the record I've used microscale and both versions of the gunze stuff. It's also annoying as shit to get out of paintbrushes, even using chemicals.

All of the silver on the arms was done with tape. Because of the little raised oval parts, I think when I was newer I would have tried liquid because they are round, but it wouldn't have been as exact.

Okay so I'm genuinely stuck.
Friend A who has MG Gundam 3.0 used the copper stickers for the elbow parts; they peeled off almost instantly.
Friend B painted those parts; they peeled off too when the arm was bent at the elbow.

Is there no way to get proper coloring and maintain posability for the 3.0's arms?

Friend B's painted parts did not look thick. Any comments from others who have painted theirs, please?
>>
>>5611200

Not him, but I paint a lot of SD Sangokuden kits; which means I fuck them up a lot.

I can offer 3 pieces of advice based on what I've gone through.

1. Always go with solid masking tape if you can help it.

2. Remember that there's more than 1 way to skin a cat: For details like the ones on the sword of the kit you posted, one could consider covering the entire surface with one large piece of tape, and then carefully cutting out the raised designs with a fresh x-acto blade.

3. Reverse washes are a thing you can do sometimes: With my most recent project, I made pretty heavy use of reverse washes. Just paint the whole piece gold, then cover it up with a layer of black enamel, and then go over the raised detail with a VERY small q-tip or similar tool that can soak up a little lighter fluid to quickly wipe away the black, revealing the gold beneath.

Hope this helps, man.
