Those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

>>5583530
Converge are pretty cool, but I feel like they've settled into more "standard" SD proportions. I liked the very beginning of the line, when the proportions were weirder, like the super long snouts on the Zakus and Goufs. I would have liked to see that carry through to more exaggerated proportions on the rest of the line. Heck, they even normalized the snouts when they did the reissue Zakus. Shame.

they will be ok, but it will gum them up a bit and the paint will flake off (can be good or bad I guess)

It's best to just wrap a little tape around them if you can. You could take them out but then you have to clean the holes out. Often you can't take them out because you are welding the parts they are inside.

It's an alternate universe, that's why the model numbers are identical to the 0079 suits and they have their own HG line. Author said banrise basically didn't care at first so he just did his own thing which let him be more creative with the direction and not having to fit in the rest of the stuff exactly.

gotta say I really hope they decide to use it as a 'reboot' for the gundam UC series. It's got the best of both worlds, creative freedom and ability to make use of the more iconic UC suits without falling into the trap Seed did.
>>
>>5584357

I'm fine with it staying an alternate universe, comics do it all the time because you can't tell as interesting stories if you have to stay in the confines of everything that has happened or is happening or will happen. It leads to the weird issues in gundam where like half the suits are prototypes etc.

Manga is AU OYW that went on longer and second volume has insane monks fighting Zeon remnants.

TV series is just a UC sidestore and it is canon. All of the variants are just regular suits with cool backpacks, due to the colony debris.
>>
>>5584429
Fuck that, it's the most commonly done kit of heavyarms and is the version with the least heavyarms-like colors.

Give me a modern kit of the TV version with the RD's proportions.
>>
>>5584506
>Manga is AU OYW that went on longer

Not exactly. The war still TECHNICALLY ends with the signing of the surrender and the forming of the republic of Zeon, but the zeon military basically says "Fuck that shit" and carries on fighting.

>second volume has insane monks fighting Zeon remnants.

That's past the second volume. The first several volumes deal with events in the thunderbolt sector and carry into the battle of A baoa qu.

>TV series

There is no TV series. It's several short OVA released over the internet to advertise the manga and renew interest in the kits.

>and it is canon
Gundam (And Japan in general) doesn't really give a shit about canon and even then it's not really part of the main series setting. They straight up aren't variants either, they share the exact model number as the original MS.

>>5584551
I don't know if it's WORSE necessarily, but it's not what I wanted. Ordered HMM Geno Breaker, got Geno Saurer instead. Both Raven Vers.

I guess a Geno Saurer isn't the worst thing in the world, but this is probably the most I've ever spent on a kit so I kinda wanted it to be exactly the one I wanted, y'know?

"If it's animated, it's official!".......which was said by a producer in relation to a question about which MS designs are canon as with side stories, manga, and MSV there are a ton floating around.

People misquote it a lot and think it means that all animated UC series are canon to the main animated timeline.
>>
>>5584590
My personal rule is everything is canon unless there is a direct contradiction, in which case I pick whichever thing I like better.

>I'm fine with it staying an alternate universe,
well I didnt mean 'reboot' as in it becomes the new 'official' main series UC. Why i put reboot in quatations in the cause I wasnt sure what was the best phrasing for what I meant.

I just want a big UC based series that is set in an alternate telling of the one year war and thus allowed to do quite a bit of creative designs. the fact thunderbolt exists and is showing some level of popularity gives me hope this could occur.
>>
>>5584741

Because I don't like 1/100? Get a grip and go outside.

Because you used literally the worst justification for not liking 1/100.

Considering massive 1/144 units exist that are nearly the size of 1/100s and there are 1/100s that are the size of 1/144s saying "They're too big" is a terrible justification.

Saying "They cost too much" is a far more acceptable reasoning or "Not enough units that I like to justify getting them" (though there's clearly one you do quite like) would be better than just "they're too big."
>>
>>5584971
If you go gradually they should still fit inside.
>>
>>5584979
The average 1/144 is much smaller than the average 1/100. Sure, there are some things like the Psycho Gundam or the Dendrobium that are bigger, but I don't have those so they don't apply to me. Biggest 1/144 I have is the Delta Kai.
Fuck off.

Mix up some grey, especially for the stripes on the sides of the legs, the backpack thrusters, maybe the recesses on the GN Drives, the trapezoidal ridges on the clear parts of the GN Swords, the areas on the giant white sword pieces for the Buster Sword that gets exposed in shield mode (there's also raised areas in shield mode that should have some green), and the trim around the faceplate. Maybe parts of the feet if you're up for it, like the sides, bottom, and the topmost ridge.

There's also the clear parts that are molded in plain clear and the yellow for parts of the v-fin.

Also, use the images on the box and in the instructions for reference.

You should just stick to RDs. They use hard PVC and solid ABS so it'll be a lot sturdier than the polystyrene and soft ABS with hollow parts of gunpla.

That said, most HG 1/144s are pretty playable. I mean, you don't want to bang them around or anything but they're not hand grenades, especially if you glue down some parts that aren't meant to move, like V-fins

Would it be possible to give this guy's arms to the LMHG? Or are sizes too different?

>>5585481
Uhhh...maybe? It's been a long time since I built the LMHG and I don't have it with me, but I seem to recall it being about a similar size to the Kotobukiya kit. I could be wrong though. But why would you want to do that? You'd just pay a high price to have nice arms on an otherwise oudated and sorta shit kit. And the shades of color wouldn't match up without painting. And you would probably need to do extensive modification to get the joints to match up. It's a pain in the ass and not worth it whatsoever. And if you are the guy who was asking about it in the first place, it's REALLY not the kind of thing a newbie modeler could or should tackle.
>>

The arms are the only bad thing about the LMHG. Otherwise it's a great kit considering it's age.

>And the shades of color wouldn't match up without painting
>without painting
Pfft.

>And you would probably need to do extensive modification to get the joints to match up. It's a pain in the ass and not worth it whatsoever.
Making new arms from scratch would be an even bigger pain in the ass.
>>
>>5585499
Okay, fair enough, maybe I am remembering the LMHG too harshly. After all, I DID build it right when it came out...which again, was 16 years ago. Not sure why you're scoffing at painting, are you suggesting a newbie who's never built before should jump right into painting? And yes, sure, building new arms from scratch WOULD be a pain in the ass, but isn't that kinda off topic? I'm asking why go through that pain of replacing the LMHG arms in the first place, rather than just building the Koto kit as-is?
>>
>>5585507
I'm not that guy. I was making a snarky remark againt snapfags.

>are you suggesting a newbie who's never built before should jump right into painting?
Why not? I did.

>why go through that pain of replacing the LMHG arms in the first place, rather than just building the Koto kit as-is?
Because the Koto kit is Rebuild garbage and the LMHG has the most accurate proportions out of any TV Eva figure or kit ever released.

>>5585677
I personally don't own any but spent a long time researching them to see if I wanted them for my collection. Sinker is really the only one I am leaning on the most to get but only because the likelihood of it getting an hmm are so low.

First you need to realize these are 144 scale, so half the size of the original and hmm zoids. Their articulation appears pretty decent for their size, and no where near as complex to build as an hmm. Of course on the flip side not being complicated means it has a lot less of the really interesting main body articulation the hmm has. The 144 scale could prolly be a good thing if you want to display the zoids with hg gundams, compare just how much bigger a gundam is then a zoid. But you really want to double check the price of the command wolf with its hmm counterparts and decide wether or not it might be better to just spend a little extra for the bigger one then the little one and feel like you did not get your money worth.

They also come with diorama bases, excluding the great saber iirc. Not too shabby but the best one imo is the translucent ocean that the sinker comes with. You stick a light under it and you got an awesome display piece, heck could then easily use that for some other aquatic based model kit as well like maybe a zgok

Personally I say the sinker since he really won't get any other models made in other lines and he is shockingly articulated from what I hear despite being such a simple design.

Couple things I forgot to add. First is because of how tiny these guys are compared to an hg, the parts can be very tiny and difficult to work with, so just be careful with them.

Second is apparently the instructions are not as Non Japanese friendly as bandai or kotobukiya. I hear they lack symbols and just use words instead for things like 'snip this bit here' or 'be sure not to accidentally snip too much here. That sort of thing.

It's a nice kit but an upgrade is nice to see. Oh forgot to say that Exia needs a revive, the kit was made when Bandai was still using old joints that really didn't make exia all that much pose-able.
>>
>>5586063
I read that as "I pull shit out of my ass and have no idea what I'm on about"
>>
>>5585744
Which is more superior, Gundma Ver.3 or Origin?

Which Gunpla is the most advanced tech wise? Is it the PG Strike, MG Gundam Ver.3 or something else?
>>
>>5586071
Exia - Single jointed with slightly over 90 degree arms, limited jointed ankle, ball jointed legs that cannot do a full split, the plastic used for the arm joint is prone to wear out, same with the head, the waist has no crunch and is limited to swivels.

The exia will benefit from double jointed arms, the newer plastic used for joints in revive kits so it doesn't wear down as quickly, a torso crunch, better hip and ankle articulation will make it pull off better and more dynamic poses for melee, and the GN Sword needs the ability to have its gun and blade move away from the hands completely so exia can pose with any of the 7 sword in hand without it getting in the way.

There is no such thing as a 1/100 HG, just non graded 1/100 kits.

There are no hg 1/100 unless you count wing,g and X kits. Only no grades or re 100 kits, they take less time but the quality varies, anything outside of Iron blooded 1/100 will lack an inner frame, and the Re-100 kits be a step up from other 1/100 kits and 1/144 hg kits but below master grade.

They meant the "an upgrade is nice" bit, m8. They're calling bullshit on why you said the Kampfer deserves a revive.
I'll second that it does deserve one, though. Sure, the current kit is fine, but that's despite its age, thanks to the quality of the base design. It's precisely due to the great design that a revive would be so killer.

How are the 1/100 IBO kits? I had a read on the wiki and apparently they've got less detail on the inside i.e no skeleton, but they're largely similar to an MG in outward appearance. They're pretty cheap, and I really like the simpler and more militarstic look of the Graze.
>>
>>5586783
Wait scratch that, I was confusing what I read with the Reborn 100 series having a detailed outer but lacking an inner skeleton. So yeah, how's the lower than MG quality on the IBO 1/100 series hold up in practice?
>>
>>5586783
>>5586786
I don't own it but dalong is a thing you know, along with a few youtube reviews out there

But if I remember right its a great kit, not quite as crazy articulated as the HG (no splits I think) but still pretty damn good
>>
>>5586783
>>5586786

The IBO kits are fantastic. They have an inner frame, but overall have lower parts counts and simpler construction than a real MG kits and exclude several of the gimmicks that MG have.

The kits themselves are great though and I would definitely recommend them.
>>
>>5585459
>>5585461

Although I've never watched Gundam the models you recommended seem pretty cool and they all are really cheap

>>5586814

What's a kit with a lot of thrusters I could harvest from?
Or is there separate packs with just a lot of thrusters?
I also got some styrene sheets today, for those that scratchbuild, what's your process? Like do you start off by sketching a rough design of what you want then cut it out into rectangles using a knife and a ruler?

cause thunderbolt psyco zaku comes with like 50 of them
>>

Only almost. You will need to modify the thigh to knee joint on the barbatos frame in order to fit the frogman gusion parts.

>>
>>5586788
>>5586790
Thanks guys, I went ahead and ordered it. I need to slow down on the kits I buy though, I've been in Japan a few years and I'm still not over the novelty of getting these things dirt cheap compared to what I'm used to so they're starting to stack up.
>>
>>5586939

Well, there's only so many Gundam Frames in universe. I don't imagine they had much to work with besides the frame that was already in the Guison.
>>
How would I go about doing micro-engraving/detailing on small parts

i wanted to put the UNO on the MG duel's headpiece since i think a sticker might look tacky
>>
>>5587013

You've got a number of options.

1) Get a dremel and a small engraving bit (Don't do this, if you're not surgical with a dremel)

2) draw the emblem onto the headpiece with a pencil or a ballpoint pen, then take to it with a metal needle of some sort. Most x-acto blade sets will come with a head like this. Start by gently following the design just barely exerting any pressure; then slowly deepen the scribed detail over many passes with the needle, and once you've achieved your desired look/effect, you're done. Tedious, but doable.
>>
>>5586783

They have a lower parts count and less colour separation but essentially you're getting almost MG quality for a cheaper price. They're great kits that become better value for money the more work you're willing to put in them. Give it a full paint job and you'll think it's an MG.

I quite like them. They're a bit more detailed than 1/144 kits because they have more space afforded to them. And they're not all that expensive either, so I think if it comes down to it, I'm probably going to stick to 1/100 IBO kits.

if anything, the skirt armors are the ones that like to fall off at the drop of a hat
its also way smaller than the recent revive HG
>>
Bought an EW Heavyarms and tried to fit the chest plate from the regular Heavyarms, also tried to look use the original back skirt, that backfired hard, I've had to re cement both the ball joints from the EW into the original waist because of the back plate being not wide enough.

I really hope that the base plastic color wont look so off when you top coat it. But the stripes looks nice
>>
>>5587528
Forgot a picture of the waist, chopped the peg off a Sandrock Custom, somehow lost the right leg ball joint from the ballden arms I was using, so I had to take one off of an old Nataku I had, and the leg doesn't properly fit on the left leg joint.
This project is a mess.
