When buying parts, use the catalog and the "lowest price" option. I usually go for quantity as opposed to just cheapness, and quantity also shows you which stores have both the largest and cheapest selection of the desired part.

>almost no money
>but i need those "nexo knights armor-minifigure sets"
Been thinking about those for 3 days and finally made an offer in the internet store.
Fuck..im going to get fucked and all that is my problem.
But those 2 sets are really cool and useful + lots of details i needed.

Anyone been there? Completely fucking up his wallet due to lego being some kind of drugs that you cant stop injecting in your brain veins?
At least my hobby contains really tiny stuff that is easy to store. Otherwise my place would look like some autist fest with toys standing everywhere...
That's what i like in my toy hobby completely going into Lego direction with no more action figures. I just have plastic containers and few favorite sets standing there and that's soo practical and neat.
PS:
I still feel guilt and embarassement thought. My grandmother will not like that. I get money from my job, not from her, yet she feels sad when she see me spending hard earned money on toys...

I'm not that anon, but I live with my grandmother and am in the process of applying for disability.

It's fucking soul crushing how much she worries about me and goes above and beyond to make my life better, no matter the cost to herself. I wish, desperately, that I could get a job and take care of her instead.

If you are capable, make the most of yourself, anon. For those of us out here that can't.

i have a job, and everything (i actually dont have gf because of job - im planning to move to capital of my country and don't want any connections in my little town. So i work hard/saving money to my bank account and basically job+Lego is my only 2 things in life).
Yet i think that if i wasnt buying lego i could have more money.

But the thought that makes me feel okay about this - Why not to spend money on something that makes you happy?
Im working hard and get exausted. And i would feel so miserable if i didn't had this happy colorful hobby. Lego makes me happier and more motivated so i can keep working hard and going full autism with building up my own stories in lego world.

Yet...yeah. Some situations like this bring some serious embarassement.

i love this. I was having kinda the same idea when i was seeing this in store. Thinking that somebody could buy few of those and build a bigger tower.
PS: My mother was supportive about legos, she liked that i can earn money and even buy toys. But she died and grandmother lives with me but she wasn't that close and don't understand this hobby that much due to being a little too old with that. Also part of that is that there is not "plan B" in a term of money. When mother was alive and if i suddenly didn't earn that much i could ask her for some money.
I guess grandmother just worrying that if i will be in such situation i could be poor because i don't have other people to count on with "money problems".
However being able to buy lego really motivates me to be better and earn more.

If I were relying on somebody else to live, I couldn't spend money on toys. Thankfully that isn't the case currently and I am able to buy as much Lego as I would like an can afford, without feeling guilty about it. My girlfriend was initially hesitant about the hobby but after a little gentle persuasion she is becoming about as obsessed as I am and we just did our first big Lego store order together. Basically, I agree with the other posters. If you're throwing your life away by buying Lego then I think somebody ought to confront you about it, but if it's perfectly sustainable then any friends and family worth their salt will support you. My parents make fun of me about it but still buy me Lego on birthdays.

My dad did that fairly lucratively with old consoles a couple of years ago. He bought bundles of Super Nintendos and Nintendo 64s with games, kept the games, and resold the consoles, and he now has one of each console and a fuckload of games plus made a whole bunch of profit.

Anyway, Lego General, I have a question for you. I have recently acquired Benny's Spaceship!!, and I am absolutely enamored with it. However, I want to man it with a suitable crew of spacemen. Is there any decent way to get classic blue lego spacemen? Or should I try to use something more modern? I blew the last of my Lego budget on this set so I don't want to spend huge amounts per person on minifigures. It looks like there'll be about seven or eight spots for pilots and crew in the ship. I don't mind using something more modern if it still fits the theme, or has the classic space logo.

Ideas?

All the 1H Technic sets have them. The Bucket Wheel Excavator will most likely use the yellow ones for the railings on its walkways, and there's a hint of orange ones appearing in the Volvo Excavator and the Porsche.

Already have a shitload of axles in red from years ago, as well as some green, white and tan. Also a few 32M yellow ones from fire station sets. I'm looking forward to having these in more colours to have more options for making MOCs look better.

It's not like the black and grey axles are going to suddenly be scarce either - you can still get black 3M friction pegs for cheap.

>buy pic related

Too bad it'd cost me a million dollars to make like five of them.

Sup lego. Tell me why NOBODY ever talks about Lego Vikings series?!
It was an awesome unique series but it is COMPLETELY forgotten and abandoned by everybody these days.
I remember going to college back then and seeing these and i didn't bought any of those because all of my money were going to college shit and random non-toy stuff.
And then i completely forgot about them for years.
Now i see them and i remember how i wanted it. it was like a new updated unique castle sets.

It seems that with this series lego wanted to go more badass and metal but i guess it didnt work?
Because i have never seen dragons with this head.

What stops Lego from making bank off of all these Chinese knockoffs? Sue their asses and run off with the dough?
>>
>>5558320
they are probably too poor to sue
>>
So the guy I bought some instructions off included a parts list in a word document and I am curious is there a way I can import that to bricklink or some shit or am I going to have to add that stuff on my own.
>>
>>5558320

They sue one company and a 'different' company will be up and running a week later. Also, the Chinese government will never crackdown on bootleggers of any sort.
>>
>>5558320
They probably don't think it's worth the effort.
>>
>>5558320
Multiple things.

For one, generally copyright is non-existant in china. For another, when you see a company name, like "shen yuan" for instance, its a dummy name. Some of these "brands" are all made by the same group, and they just change the names around.

And finally, a lot of these companies know whats going on, and are willing to take the small hit just to use chinas manufacturing and cheap labour.

Take apple for instance.

The factory that makes their charging cables for their iphones and what have you, is the EXACT SAME FACTORY where the knockoffs of the very same cable come from. This has been confirmed by people who work for sites like Deal Extreme and Lighttake and many of the sites where you can buy knockoff consumer products.

Ive posted my theories on how the chinese factories get access to the lego molds and release shit earlier than lego does (IE: the ninjago sky pirates sets.), but it always turns into a thread derailer, so I wont, just do some research, come up with your own theories about that.

As a final note, as >>5558334
just said, most lawyers know that trying to take on the iron rice patty isnt worth it. Itll sit in the courts for years bleeding cash and time, while in the meantime all the chinese "companies" will just change their brand names and shuffle their boards of directors around.
>>
>>5558241
I have that book, it's okay.
>>
>>5558336
And to add to all of this, say what you want about the scruples of knockoff dealers, some of them are pretty honest guys.

The guys who work for deal extreme, for instance, will outright tell you to NEVER buy USB drives or memory sticks or even hard drives from them, as they are made out of inferior parts and even reprogrammed to read a higher storage than they actually are (IE: guy reprograms a 1gb USB drive to read as a 16gb. You will never know, until you put more than 1gb on it.).

They are telling you NOT to give them money for certain items. The only reason they carry them is its a batch deal, "you sell our shit, you sell some of our USB drives too." type of situation.

Sorry for the offtopic, just always think the world of chinese bootlegging is a very interesting thing, and others might think so too.

Sadly my reply asking about the plates was deleted in the purge.

I asked if the plates should be black or gray? I feel black would just turn the whole thing into a big black blob, kind of like how a lot of star wars ships suffer from "gray box syndrome". Partially I kept them that way because, I dont know if you have ever performed on a black stage and had the misfortune of meeting the edge of it (I have. Not fun.), generally you want some color, preferably UV reactive. Thus I will be keeping the yellow stripes for sure as gaffers tape (or however its called).

Also, as I originally asked, I wanted to know what some of you think would be good faces for the amp heads? Which printed 1x2 or 1x4 plates would represent a good guitar/bass amp head.

I feel stupid asking it but I have to. Is it just the way Jang chooses sets to review or we actually have tons of shitty "boys" sets aside from nexo knights while every "girls" set (especially the elves series) is really good? All these superheroes, cars, police/firefighters, whatever else, it's so boring to look at.

girl sets are pretty legit if they have things you want or like now. their only negative is they are usually slightly smaller, and they have dolls

>>
>>5558859
Girl sets actually bother to furnish their structures, after all. That is part of the size thing. But the Friends Yacht is still a pretty good match size-wise for the Fortrex.

The girls sets offer new emphasis on aesthetics that we haven't really seen from Lego. Original "girl stuff" from lego was just generic dollhouses rendered in lego, while Friends onwards actually tried to be clever.
>>
>>5558866
you're right, its furnishings and stuff like that
Aira's Creative Workshop is small as fuck size, but a shitton of it is plates of some sort or another, and to me, it was 100% worth its cost, where some other $10 sets are just kinda piss, but much much bigger

I don't know about Jang's reviews, but it comes down to personal taste and what you want from the sets you're getting. Like the other poster mentioned, they have a ton of great accessories you don't get elsewhere and they tend to have more places instead of vehicles. Friends fills in a lot of places City sets should have instead of just police and fire. I don't mind the minidolls, and you can easily switch pink pieces out for other colors.

It not selling is a big fuck-you to all nonautistic Lego fans. It goes to show Lego will always gain more money from autistic colorful roboknights that yell "LOOK AT ME IM SO RANDUM XDD X)))" and retarded colorful ninja toys for children that enjoy spinning shit

Vikings took realism as an approach and had very violent themes but of course it didn't sell.

Kinda makes me wonder, if Lego randomly visits historical ideas, why can't we get a Nomad subtheme for something? I'd LOVE mongolian warriors even though I'm sure it would be hard to pull off because of the lack of current interest from the general public.

Or how about roman or greek warriors? If anyone here dares to say that a giant Zeus Altar as a lego set from a Greek mythos theme wouldn't be the dogs bollocks, I will lose all of my faith in /lg/

I mean, imagine the retarded stuff that nobody asked for as a set and Lego still released to end up as another failed theme

As for ancient themes, TLG somewhat stealthily caters to them via blindbags. Heck if you pick up a few of those and some older atlantis sets (I recall one of them being pretty much a greek building once you removed the foliage parts) you are more or less already there.

Brickbuilder does clear builds. Nothing so interesting here for me. Dont care about seeing builds, clear pictures will do it for me

just2good has the most variety and pretty alright quality content. his reviews are good, but tend to ramble on sometimes. i do like how he has been reviewing sets from mid-2000s recently - like power miners and vikings. his top 10 videos seem to be hits with views, some are heavily opinionated but i love his cancelled lego one, it was damn interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_Swp72LZM4

There's a medley of ways to do chests, at the scale you're working, the best option for you would be one using curved slopes. Chests that actually look like clevage usually need bigger bodies than the DFC type.

Domes are also usable but this is a little harder to make look good.

What do you expect exactly? Lego to have super amazing ultra accuracy of the viking life? Yeah, that would make great sets of people making dried meat and setting up tents. It had amazing realism in comparison to other themes, for example say, fright knights

Such was the viking life, m8. Real vikings didn't have round heads or C shaped hands either, but I'm sure you'll find a problem with that

lmao not really man. I enjoyed the vikings theme and thought it was metal as heck. It had nothing to do with realism though. IIRC the theme was made to test if people would like hybrid sets (system/bionicle mix like the dragons), but didn't want to potentially damage castle's rep hence the slight deviation. It didn't work out regrettably.

TLG probably doesn't give a shit how well the game sells. They are making ridiculous amounts of money off of people buying their ridiculously overpriced minifigs. Honestly its a huge blast, the bleeding of one world into another can be laugh-out-loud at some points, the choice of universes is such an eclectic mix that you have no idea which universe(s) you're going next, not saying its perfect, it is bit pricey and the need to use powers that only one figure has to 100% a level smacks of cash-grabbing. But its only toys-to-life system that uses the figures as plaything as compared to pretty memory cards.

Also worth pointing out that it's the TT LEGO game with an original story, so the comedy and visual gags that they are known for really shines in this one. The cast is ace too, Gary Oldman as the villain, I mean c'mon.

For me it was worth the price just to see the Doctor and Doc. Brown rip into each other's time machines.

>Buying LEGO at WHSmiths

They are literally the most expensive place in the country to buy LEGO. They only stock LEGO so that when your Granny forgets about your birthday, they have something to grab and post whilst they're in town.

Having said that, because the prices are so high, their stock hangs around longer, my local one has a healthy range of Galaxy Squad still.

I found more old Lego in our shed. A lot of Mindstorms stuff, and a bunch of rock raiders.

The Mindstorms stuff is wet, though. I'm pretty sure all the electronic bits are ruined. But all the other pieces are fine.

This is just a bit of the rock raiders stuff, the rest was in another tub. I've got five of those brown canopy pieces and the baseplate for their base, so it looks like I had most of the line. I don't even remember having the Rock Raiders stuff really, so hey, that's cool.

So i was watching some show about geezers saying their cars were so periodically correct they were like "time machines". Now i watched Repo-man so i know Ufo's are also time machines, so i put my space science team on investigation. After extensive research they came up with the brilliant plan of letting a pin-up girl drive a rodded '32 ford at 88 miles per hour through a portal module.

Things turned out even better than expected. Someone forgot to reset the locational parameters since last night, so it transported the crew to the location that was last entered into the system. Wich miraculously turned out to be the Mars settlements girls bathroom.

Concensus: Cars aren't Ufo's
Case status: Scienced

nah im ok with what chima and Ninjago gave me. I dont see any problem with their tech pieces and i never was a fan of space theme (im 32).

I've caught the minifigure bug with these capetrash sets. Just recently I picked up Airport Battle, Green Lantern vs. Sinestro, Iron Skull Sub, and Black Panther's Jet over the last month. These minifigures and Giant Man are fantastic, and some of the vehicles are good too. I don't keep up with these lines too well and I want some recommendations. Is there anything really good coming from the superhero lines during the summer, or are there any good sets from last year that are still on store shelves?
>>
>>5560131
It will be cooler if you will do a stand with details and even a minifigure or some shit. Like a lego portal but something like that, nigga.
>>
>>5560139
Good luck if you have the completionist bug.

I am currently trying to get a full set of iron man, and sadly there are two I know ill never get.

One is the heroic age comic con exclusive. Recently one was listed on ebay.

For over $12,000.

The other one is Iron Patriot. He seems to go for big bucks (granted, not 12k big bucks, but still). I have a knockoff of him I got but its not quite the same (for one thing, the stud hole in his helmet is too long, so it made him look like he had a long as fuck neck. I filed down his neck so it would look better, its a bootleg, so ill allow some heresy.).

As for other figures, look at price of single fig versus price of a set that includes it. If a fig is going for $30, but the full set he comes in is going for $50, might as well just buy the set instead, at least that way you get some parts for whatever as well.
>>
>>5560139
>>5560160
Also, ill add to this with a controversial stance.

Look to china. They have bootlegs of SEVERAL heroes that never got official figures, and they have also produced figures for many MANY Iron Man suits that never got an official release. And at around $1 a figure, you can snag a few and see how the quality is. Out of ALL the bootleg figs ive gotten, only my Iron Patriot was a little oddball and a batch of trans colored figs I got felt very cheap, but other than that, all others ive gotten have been REALLY GOOD.

Also no matter what, they can never seem to print a proper tony stark face, its too high on the minifig head.

Warning: The Following posts contains Whining and high levels of Butthurt.
Reader Discretion is Advised.

Doing a little bit of shopping today and found myself in a Target store and on a whim I decided to check out the toy section.
While browsing the Lego I came across pic related. I was aware that this particular Target had one, but hadn't bought it from them because their price was AU$79 and hence I wasn't really interested in buying it from Target... Until I saw the sale tag on it that said it; "Was $79. Now $52. Save $27."
I thought "Shit that's alright!" and decided to grab it. I also grabbed some other things I needed (Socks, new belt, etc).
I payed for my items, left the store and headed back to my car.
But I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. So when I got back into my car, I pulled out the recite and had a look. They charged me the full price, AU$79, for the Lego set. I figured that this might just be a simple mistake.

However I didn't remember actually reading what set was listed on the sale tag. So rather then take the set back in and run the risk that the tag was actually for a different set, I decided I'd go back in, check the tag and if I was for the Super Cycle set, I'd go back to my car, get the set and receipt and go and see if I can get the difference refunded or something. So I headed back in and found the tag. It was for the Super Cycle, but I noticed something at the bottom of the tag, so small that I could only just read it; "Remove 15/03/16"...
>>
>>5560708
So this sale ended 4 days ago, but they'd left the tags up. I checked all the other sale tags for Lego and found the same, or similar. None of the sale tags were current. Now it's not like the employee's were too busy to check these/take them down. There were literally four other shoppers in the store, three employees stocking/hanging out clothes and another three employee's manning the empty checkout, just idly chatting to each other.

Having previously had to return something to this store and knowing they can be anal about it, I decided not to bother and just accept the fact that I'd been, as far as I'm concerned, mislead into buying something. It piss' me off though. I only bought this set because I thought I was getting it for a really good price.

Fuck.
