***READ THE GUIDE****

For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

- Airborne gunk/paint clots everywhere. On the left shoulder pad, on the left thigh, and on the left ankle. Nuke it from orbit.
- The upper side of his shield is driving my OCD up the wall. Can't tell if it's just paint sludge or a paint+nub mark combo. Sand that shit like there is no tomorrow.
- Some seam lines are okay, although the ones on his legs make me think of the Mariana Trench. Mask that shit. It isn't hard. If you don't know how, look it up on JewTube.

And for the love of God, hide your personal stuff when taking a photo.
>>
>>5319489

actually you should use that mirror to take better pictures of your gunpla.

Redirect the lights to your model, yo.

Maybe you guys remember me, i ordered my first 2 kits a while ago.

I build this Guntank within the last hour and now i was about to start priming it.
But the box and the instructions only give me one variant of painting it: plain gray, which looks utterly boring.

Are there alternative paint (or camo) schemes for that particular model somewhere?

Besides, are all Gunpla kits as easy and good to build as this? The fit of the parts is great and it almost fell together.
>>
>>5320037

bandai models are entry-level. Even a 12 years old japanese kid should be able to build them without any struggle.

And yes, there is only one "official" color for early type guntank but it doesn't stop you from experimenting new schemes.

You could do blue like the original manga version lineart (It's grey in the series itself though). Although yeah, Origin guntank doesn't have a lot of color variants. Just make up your own if you want something other than what's provided, that's half the fun of gunpla since it's so easy to work with as models.

Some crossover here from the Transformers threads, since I figure you guys might know better: Those Bandai Tamashii Nation's stands, will those work well with Voyager (usually 7-8 inches tall or so) or Deluxe (around 5-6 inches) Transformers? Are they stable? Mostly looking for something to help display the jet/helicopter/various flying Transformers, and these stands looked like they might do it, and I know a lot of the Gundam kits come in various sizes and have similar "chunky" body styles.
>>
>>5320263
Yeah, the Tamashii stands are pretty good. For Transformers, check out the trident, but you might want to look at the action base 1 since it's mean't for MGs, which are a similar height.

Canadabros can you help an American out on where to buy Gunpla from without having the shipping be rape and/or the order coming in January?
>>
>>5320312
Hobbywave has flatrate shipping to US and Canada, good luck finding anything in stock though
>>
>>5320312
I mostly buy from the usual japan sites, HLJ/amiami/HobbySearch and for a couple of HG boxes its usually 1k to 1.5k yen for SAL, it consistently arrives in a couple of weeks

Depends where in Canada though

It can be used on pretty much anything, it's just primarily used on seafood, primarily steamed crabs. It's basically a mildly spicy, peppery seasoning powder.

But yeah, chicken is fine, old bay wings are a favorite bar food in MD.

Remember guys, order your SS's stuff ASAP. Not just so it gets there before Christmas but also because the further into December you wait, the more gunpla end up sold out and marked up. It happens every year.

Top coat cans are a way of making your models look good through matte.
You can however also choose to give them a glossy finish as well.

Pic related, one on the left is out of box snapfit
One on right is matte finish from top-coat can.

You said you don't like painting but what about small details on models that can't provide all the colours? Do you still use a paintbrush or gundam marker to fill in those details to make it show-accurate? It is really easy to paint small details, you can just use the markers themselves as well, however you may get more neat and precise paint with a small brush.

so that was an interesting build, clear parts are always brittle as fuck so nub removal is difficult, but doable without sandpaper. the chrome parts look great but are fingerprint magnets and the undergating isnt perfect, so you can still see nubs if you know where to look.

the HG is fun to build but i cant wait for MG, its still lacking in alot of details in the joints and parts separation that can only be done in a larger scale.

In hindsight that makes even less sense actually. Why would you only coat certain parts? Let alone those specific parts? Like the shoulders make sense as they're pretty big, but why the knees or crotch? Why not the head or chest? Ya know, the important spots?

Sprukits are how LBX was localized in the States. They also made Batman and Master Chief sets and imported some Pokemon ones recently.

The Level 2 Batman sample I was sent is a great example of how a Plamo kit should be: Rendering detail and color with the plastic and being insanely poseable.

LBX kits seem less faulty than Japanese ones, though they are pretty much the same. You still get paper capes, though.

Finally got to do a little more work for the haunted grimoire. Blew out the face, finished out the channel for the LED for the head unit in the upper torso, sculpted and made a mold of the baseform that'll become the ghost face that'll be part of the ghost effect coming out of that damaged head and chest unit.

I'll do a clear cast of the head tomorrow and if I have time I'll start work on making the ghost effect.

I think you're confused or I'm confused about what you're trying to say.

When you undercoat a model, the colour you use as your undercoat affects the colour you apply over the top of it. This is why it's generally recommended that you apply bright colours over a white or light grey undercoat and dark colours over a black undercoat. When you pre-shade what you're doing is adding shading to the undercoat so that when you apply a colour over the top of it, that shading still shows through the colour (because the colour you're applying is in thin, slightly transparent layers).
>>
>>5324584
So this http://www.dalong.net/review/mg/m61/m61_p.htm is without paint? If so I might totally consider getting one of these sexy beasts.
>>
Tips on sanding? Using sandpaper, I often accidentally sand the areas around the nub, nothing serious, just slight discoloration on the plastic. But I'd like to know if there are ways to reduce this
>>
>>5325519
Yes, all dalong pics are without paint, though he does some panel lines on the models.
That picture you linked is an MG, 1/100 scale, if you didn't know.
>>
>>5325522
use a popsickle(is that what the americans call it i'm not sure) stick to reduce the surface area affected by sanding

>>5325518
i mean like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4mh7gjpsyE
>>
>>5325532
That's what I just described. He started with a white undercoat, shaded the parts he wanted shaded with black, then went over the entire thing with thin layers of the final colour he wanted the piece to be (which in this case was white) until the colour was build up enough and the shaded part is tinted slightly. The more layers you do, the more subtle the shading becomes as the final colour becomes more solid.

White -> black shading -> tint with whatever colour you want.

So I was looking at dalongs review of the G30th HG Gundam, but then I realised it looked like an improved version of the hg gundam I got with the "Gundam vs zaku" hg set. Is this the sweet spot between the revive and the old one?
The arm joints certainly look better than the old one.

the rx78 from the gundam vs zaku is 1996. Yeah the g30th is a lot better but shitty compared to the revive or the RG. Theres so many rx78's now its silly. Get one of the best MG's (2.0, 3.0, O.Y.W or origin) and call it a day.

I pretty much have more grandaddy gundam variations than I do for other kits.

Old LM-HG kits by Bandai from the early 00's, I think. They're pretty big, with the LM-HG 01 being taller than an MG RX-78-2, and are pretty alright kits. Main thing to know about them is that the arms have rubber sleeves covering them so they look more human-like/show aacurate, and those crack with time.

it doesnt work that way. the Eva kits used RG style inner frames in their arms, its a plastic skeleton wrapped in soft rubber to give it a very organic look without visible joints. however the rubber is pretty stiff and wears out over time, so alot of people dont like them. plus there is the old PG Eva kit that had an entire one-piece ruber body suit that you slipped over the inner frame and then covered in armor, which is supposed to be one of the most tedious processes of any robot kit.

thats why the newer Koto Evas just used regular joints, the Bandai ones were more show accurate and used more advanced manufacturing techniques but really limited their playability.
