Shame that people were not buying the WFB stuff when it was in stock so GW had to kill not only the game but also the setting to get rid of the cancerous community. I have never seen a fantasy player buying something in local game store and all stores in my area have at least 20% discount on GW shit.
Seriously, whfb players were the worst kind of hobbists - I was buying the fantasy stuff just to have fancy models and read the lore. I have never used them in a proper game before the AoS launch because these guys were just retarded.
The sacrifice of the WFB setting was a low price to pay for a new helpful and sociable community of people that actually have fun with the game.
At least AoS players in my area are buying their shit in LGSs when the stuff they need is in stock.

I don't like much Blanche stuff, but I must say that I'm not a fan of most of the AoS art I've seen. It just feel lacking in character.

I've posted this before but it's one piece of art I always remembered from when I picked up some random WD years ago, when I was first getting into the hobby. I do prefer this style of art, which was around about 10 or so years ago. Regardless of whether you think it's better or worse, I'd love to see some variety, including older style artwork like this of AoS armies. I believe Kharadrons, Stormcast, or any other AoS army would look amazing in this style. It saddens me that we might never see that.

Like I said, I definitely think GW had better art in it's history. Especially the earliest AoS art seems to be done in a very..cost effective manner. They do have better artwork in newer books, the Kharadron one has some really good pieces imo.

The artstyle I still despise the most is the one utilized in Black Library covers a few years ago, that was a bizarre mix of 3D/drawn. Storm of Iron and Ciaphas Cain books had that kind of cover, and it was utter garbage.

lore is mixed on that. The Wood Elves treat the Brettonians as nothing more than a cats paw because that's the Wood Elves thing, they're isolationist and self important.

Lileath is NOT a part of the wood elves court though, despite the co-operation of the Speakers and Spellsingers with her 'ploy' for the training of the Damosels. Lileath herself seems to have created Brettonia to specifically cultivate mortals who would be noble and heroic enough to worthy of receiving a fragment of her divine essence - which is what all the Grail Knights are.

BRETTONIA itself may sometimes, or even often, fall to mortal fallability and it's own doublethink and nonsense. But the Grail Knights themselves are the real deal, hence why they and the damosels stand apart from Brettonian society. Moreover, Lilleath has been known in times of need to use and guide peasants when the Nobility are being too much of a bunch of fucking cucks to get shit done, such as their Joan of Arc expy who saved the kingdom.

I was unironically thinking about the khorne one

Anyone have any good suggestions for proxying the sorceress on black dragon? I really don't like the model. The Dragon neck obscures the character too much and the riders are way to boring. I considered just doing some bits swaps on a Dragon Mage, since I'm planniing to include male sorcerers in my Darkling Covens army anyway...

The creature creations dragons looks pretty cool, and I could add almost any Caster to the basket on the back of the dragon. Might replace it with a scourge runner chariot body though...

What are your thoughts, /aosg/? Noticed most of the small factions that did get Allegiance abilities typically just cribbed them from the benefits given to them by their old battalions, so I figured I might house-rule to stuff to see if the FLGS would let it fly. Not attempting to make anything too moronically broken, keeping things roughly in line with the other Allegiances.

Venom Surge is pretty neccessary for the army not to be complete dogshit, and I made sure to limit any other method of adding to Wound rolls. No old Bellowing Tyrant, no old Battle Brew, so that +1 shouldn't swing the power too hard. Additionally, I dropped the range of Embodiment down to 6'', though I suppose I could leave it where it was and just give it a reroll on fails.

Just looking for thoughts and suggestions, as you can tell I sort of got bored when it was time for items. And the Collar is such a neat but worthless one that still feels like it fits, dealing with monsters. And the Battle Brew might've been nerfed, but it still feels pretty fitting.

Tweaking this idea, with the reavers and warriors basically just there to provide Blood Tithe somewhat, while the Heros provide the support for the Bloodletters. The choice of General is sort of just a whimsy, cus I want to try this out. The mounted Chaos Lord qualifies for the mortal and daemon charts, so the idea here is to give him a 4 damage weapon that he's, at minimum rerolling 1s to hit with and with the banner, could be rerolling all failed hits. He buffs up the Gorebeast, which his boosted by the stoker and so on.

Gore Pilgrim means that the Bloodsecrator will be pushing its effects out to 30" too, so that should cover most things, I think.

Venom surge should stipulate friendly spiderfang models.

Embodiment of the spider god should let them use his bravery instead of their own. Free blanket aoe shock immune is too wide a brush. Curveball: if arachnarok dies, roll for each unit within 8" of him, on a 5+ they no longer need to make battleshock tests.

TRAITS:

Durable Chitin is probably too strong. Besides a boss having access to rerollable saves, GW carefully avoided a straight up +1 save as command trait, and I'd continue that trend here. I would suggest a flavorful nerf: Lie In Wait: This model may enjoy a cover bonus to saves as if it were not a monster.

Mouthful of spiders: Other 'grants unbinding as if a wizard' abilities do not grant wizard keyword, so I'd continue that trend.

Skittering Advance: just feels like ironjaws copy paste, but counter charge on a spider feels flavorful. What about if they are charged they can activate first?

I think it's alright to go 6" on entangling webs, also you first state unit and then state model. Use unit both times for consistency.

ARTEFACTS:
Venomstone is too strong. Have his venom deal 2 mortal wounds or something instead.
Collar and Battlebrew: Lazy! come up with 2 new ones! Especially no battlebrew, boring.

I think I have to reconsider my picks. It seems that BCR are neat aesthetic- and lore-wise but they don't really fit my purchase logistic. I don't want to buy models just to put them on the shelf. Sure, I know that meta can change again and whatever I will buy can end up as useless piece of plastic on the shelf one day but it is not the same thing as buying stuff with the knowledge that they will be collecting dust instead of games.
My other options are Seraphon (I know they are not as elite as BCR but huge lizards are huge) and Nighthaunt so I have to figure out a plan to buy BCR in a effectively and cost-effective way or just pick something else.
Still, I'm really grateful for your help

It means you won't get the bonuses on all of the skirmishers, and just getting the +2 Bravery within 6'' feels a little underwhelming. I suppose with that Curveball though, it balances out though it becomes a pretty lengthy trait and vomits that keyword over and over.. Perhaps also tip back in the original battalion Embodiment's distance. Lemme see if i can get the wording right.

Are you sure? Both the Wanderers and the Darkling Coven ones do. The Brayherd doesn't, but it also lets the unit cast spells. And then so does the Darkling one. It seems like they are all over the place with that kind of trait, so I just went for somewhere in the middle.

There isn't one. It's a legacy army. And like many of the legacy armies, it's in an awkward spot where it really wants to be an ally. But in order to be effective, it's got to be more than 400 points since none of the DoS units except for the Excelsior have ANY synergy with the rest of the armies they can ally with.

I'm reading Spear of Shadows, and it's pretty interesting, but the most intriguing tidbit is that it's actually set 100 years into the Age of Sigmar. Like the Realmgate Wars are long passed, and now theyve sent settlers out into the Mortal Realms from Azyr

Drill that gun barrel if you can. It makes it look much better more or less right away.

Also, make sure you clean up those shields good. Dwarf Shields take up the majority of their body when viewed from the front, and as a result they tend to be the things that catch your eye second - right after the helmet and beard, so it is important to make sure the shield looks tidy.

Also, you are going to have a hard time with those bases. I found out how much of a bitch it is to do them after the shield was glued on when I started to rebase my dorfs.

Is this list looking any good? Thinking of using the trait that gives me three generals, and using the KoS and lord's command abilities on the seekers, chariot, knights and chariots

so hellstriders are good cause of Enrapturing banners that give a bubble of -1 to hit. Knights are a nice thing to see. Had an idea for a list that was lord on boobsnake with hellstriders charging first turn with knights following up turn 2 getting buffed by the boobsnake to double pile in, allowing the knights to make big hits on the charge. They'd be backed up by but either use of marauders or daemonettes.

Converting some isle of blood and some old HE spearmen to dark elves to start a darkling coven. Sucks not using the executioner mask but the swordmasters have soe much of their sword made into their helmet ;_;

If you can find an empire battalion, that is a great starting point. Handgunners rock, but they get out ranged easily. Don't bring too many, or you will have a hard time finding opportunities to play. The Freeguild General on Griffon is a great beatstick. Cheap and effective. Ally in some cannons and you're gonna have a great time.

Skaven have more opportunities to customize. Bring clan pestilence for a glorious charging band of maniacs. Their new abilities and artifacts actually make the vermin lord corruptor a solid pick. Easy to collect with the start collecting box.
Clan skryre is very competitive with a great source of mortal wounds in a meta that was dominated by elite troops. Solid battleline choices, though collecting the acolytes you need is impossible, make these guys tough, and their battalion brings the pain. Moulder, Masterclan and Eshin are clans you can use as allies. They lack diversity to be their own choice. A pack master is great to bring in a skryre list with lots of stormfiends, since they share keywords, while an assassin hidden in your list is a great choice too. A vermin lord Deceiver combined with an assassin, or even thanquol makes a big surprise butt sex effect. Easy to catch your enemy off guard with 4 warpfire throwers on a caster that also spits two arcane bolts, and has the option to summon in any daemons, since he's a chaos wizard.
Verminus is in a tough spot right now. Like other anons have stated, they should either share clan allegiance, or be allowed to field more allies than other clans in order to fill the gap they're suffering. Losing the clan Verminus battalion was harsh, and they lack key word specific abilities and artifacts. Field them in a mixed chaos list and you'll be fine.

Darkling Covens have one key flaw. They lack a good Characters. Their dragons are mediocre compared to higher ones, and I'd rather field a drakeseers, who alone can dish out 4+ mortal wounds a turn. Their artifacts are nice, but would benefit from being used on better characters. They make up for this with a solid set elite unit, ranged battleline and a battalion ability that can really get the ball rolling. Ally in Stormcast to make up for their shitty characters imo

Drakespawn knights are solid if you can get the charge, but you only have 400 pts for allies in 2000. Fielding a sorceress as you only character is asking for trouble, especially where certain battle plans require heroes to capture points, even if you bring a lord on dragon. His breath attack might be better in the new meta, but that remains to be seen.

I wouldve loved to see a celestial hurricanum allied in, but they aren't compatible.

Field celestiant prime with your army for a solid, flying, mortal wound spewing beatstick who benefits from cover.

Be aware that if you want to play skaven in practice you are limited to run mono skryre + packmaster for stormfiend buffing or mono-pestilens. Mixed fluffy lists are ded thanks to Lord of War and Crown of Conquest nerf

Maybe I’m Autistic, but why does the skirmish point system make no fucking sense? Kairic Acolytes in Matched play run 100pts for a 10 man squad, and in skirmish 30 renown for a 10 man squad, that’s 3.33 times less. Now bloodletters on the other hand run 110pts for a 10 man squad in Matched play, but in skirmish 20 renown for a 10 man squad. That’s 5.5 times less. How do they figure out the cost of units? Is it just a guessing game?

The formula is Point cost of a unit / minimal unit model count / 5 so Bloodletters are 110/10/5 = 2.2 round down to 2. Kairic Acolytes are just too good to costs 2 renown per model
