Anyone got an idea of what a dark mechanicus style list would look like, and how to make it decent on the tabletop?

FW gave us the chaos hellwright. I bought a decimator with two soulburner petards recently, then they FAQd the weapons to cost double because niggers.

Definitely thinking about a leviathan with the grav flux bombard since horde meta at the moment.

Any proper suggestions or units I should really be looking at?

48 points per guy for 3A S7 AP-2 D2, reroll 1s to wound, make D3 hits for each attack made with this weapon instead of one, damage from the weapon is not lost but instead carries over. Can be taken in units from 5 to 10.

Emperor's Children vs Grey Knights
Then when some Grey Knights summon Draigo to fight Fulgrim, Fulgrim just casually asks how Slaanesh is doing back in the garden and Draigo slays his summoner and quips that she's doing 'perfectly' in a dreamy voice.

But yeah it's totally an Imperium win, they fixed it too hard on the first 3 planets, realised it wouldn't be interesting if Imperium won every planet, let Chaos have two, then announced whoever won the last planet won the campaign for "drama points".
I hope someone at GW got fired for this shit show, Morty isn't even released during his own campaign, CSM codex didn't show until week 3, it's like whoever designed the campaign has never heard of subtlety.

Enclaves are getting power weapon equivalents. Axe, Sword, Fist, but with anime sounding names.

>>55328220
Yes actually. Their unique stratagem is giving units vanguard (the timing is unique. You get to use it after deployment is done, so your opponent doesn't necessarily know which units you're going to move while he's setting up). The faction bonus is that if a unit has no markerlight counters on it, ANY attack by a tau ranged weapon will generate one markerlight on a successful hit.
>>
>>55329485
Plague marines are 6 points more expensive than regular marines for almost the exact same thing, and I personally think +1 invuln is worth one point.

I keep asking myself that same question.
I mean, Black Library did give us the Beast Arises Series (which was so humiliating that the Inquisition wiped all traces of it from the records except for the name, as far as Guilliman's been able to learn anyway), but GW needs to really give the Orks some more love.

I am going to be building a squad of Vanguard Veterans. Can I get some opinions on how to kit them out? They will be mainly taking on MEQ

I am thinking because of 8th rules to run SS Power axe on the sergeant and SS chainsword on a VV and just equip the remaining models with double chainsword. Double chainsword on a vanguard veteran means 4 attacks at his base profile. they will be assisted by a lieutenant to compensate for the s4 ap 0.

>Best armies for a new player?

Space Marines. They have a shit ton of different units so you have tons of options starting out for how you want your army to go, they're widely available everyfuckingwhere, and since everyone and their mom starts with Space Marines you'll always be able to find cheap used models if that's your jam.

Also they're always in the new edition starter sets and their armor has a lot of panels so it's easy to learn how to paint on. You can customize your own chapter as well if you don't want to use one of the already established ones.

>Cheapest way to get started?

Buy Dark Imperium, sell the Nurgle half. Alternately, pick up the Start Collecting box and then a cheap Rhino and you'll be looking at 5-600 points worth of models. Not enough for a full game, but definitely enough to get you started with some smaller skirmish sized games.

The best answer though is to look at all of the armies and pick the one that you think looks the raddest. If you end up enjoying the Warhammer 40K hobby than you're going to be spending hours after hours assembling and painting your army. If you're spending all of that time on an army that you don't think is cool you won't have any fun. Find an army that you think is awesome (either their looks, their playstyle, or their lore) and just grab the Start Collecting box for it.

Then, watch Duncan's painting guides on the WarhammerTV youtube channel and check out the /wip/ thread for help and advice on painting.

Then post your dudes here and talk about them.

going to be taking on most if not all 1w models. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the extra damage from the grav does not spill over into other models. If I get hit by something that does high AP I can select which model I want to take the hit. If I had two models with SS, I can just opt to use their save. I have hands for more weapons in the rest of the unit that way.

Outside of LC, you will never get a use for more weapons. I suppose you could take pistols, mbut why though? You're a black templar, fucking space knights need to be purging, not shooting, and frankly I don't find mass pistols to be all that useful from my experience. two chainswords means an extra two attacks-at ap-0, but still good for clearing hordes of light-armour enemies

I got into it after playing a Black Crusade campaign. It was fun, but Chaos minis don't look as cool as the artwork depicts them as.

thoughnts on this.

watched the mortarion review.

spells:

warp time
death hex.

so he moves 12. warptimes 12 more. average charge 7 for 31" move .. so possibly turn 1 charge. death hex is for obviously removing invuln saves on what's about to skull fuck you so you can kill it asap.

use the new expensive terminators deepstriking in to absorb heavy weapon hits on him (pre placed in position for him)

>Outside of LC, you will never get a use for more weapons.
Chainswords rules state: "each time the bearer fights, it can make 1 additional attack with this weapon."
2x chainsword on a vanguard veteran as I am reading it: 2 chainsword attacks, then a bonus attack from EACH chainsword. That is a total of 4 attacks at s4 ap0 for 16 points(plus whatever for jump pack) I can also field almost(jump pack costs) twice the number of veterans with chainsword as LC point for point. And its going to be Black Templar, so dual wielding deepstriking chainsword holding crusaders seem like the appropriate choice.
>Why'd you choose BT? And what's your crusade's fluff? (it's crusade, right? I'll admit I'm no expert in BT chaoter structure

The Templars keep shit moving. In my opinion the most noble part of the 40k universe are the ideals of the great crusade, and while everything else is a dumpster fire in the Imperium they are still fighting for the idea of a better tomorrow.

I am introducing a friend to 40k so he will be using my Tau army. So its shaping up to be a crusade near the Maelstrom, where my Tau have been battling a force of Space wolves(the guy who got me into 40k's army.)

Objectively, Nids are more fun because Nids have options that allow for different playstyles that still function. AdMech is very monobuild and lower-tier, thus making it less dynamic of an army and easier to fall into a pattern of monotony with. If you don't mind monotony, you'd be better off playing Nids anyway as they're relatively easy to learn and play and far more durable than AdMech at current.

No. Never use Hormagaunts. They are not worth it ever. If you can take Hormagaunts, always take Genestealers instead.

Now, with that out of the way you will find it to be a mixture for Nids. Genestealers work, but they work best when supplemented with big things to distract and or soften their targets before they shred/nom them to death. With Nids, you'll always want to use swarm tactics over a simple Nidzilla, as the nerfed Nidzilla's viability tremendously. It's still feasible, but nowhere near as fun or logistically sound as it was in 7th. Tyranids are part of a hivemind, and being composed of multiple beings headed towards one goal is as reflected in the game as it is in the fluff. And before you ask, yes, people will consider a preposterous promenade of pantaloonpurloiners pushing people off the playmat poor sportsmanship. Use them, but don't overuse them.

While your reading of the chainsword rules are correct, in the case of MEQs, the extrapoints for dual claws mathhammerwise is superior to the points you save for more dual chainsword vangaurd. 10 LC marines do 10.333... Wounds to meq, while 16.6 dual sword vets (the equivalent number of points as the 10 LC) will do 7.629.... Wounds to meq, and that's accounting for two sergs as well.
The extra attack, superior AP and reroll damage on the LC is simply better at killing meq both in pure numbers and point per point than dual swords are

Zoanthropes are useless, sadly. Venomthropes even moreso since they can be bursted down and removed easily. But the Tervigon is useful if a bit pricey. Does wonders in lower point games by making sure your gaunts live, and using Termagaunts with Devilgaunts all but ensures you'll have a consistent firing line pumping out 30+ shots rerolling wounds and hits of 1. And Exocrines. Always and forever until the Codex.

In Matched Play, do Primaris Inceptors with Plasma Exterminators cost 30 Points per model + 28 Points per gun for a total of 86 Points per model?

Or are they 30 points + 28 points, so 58 points per model?

The book says they get two plasma exterminators, the points listed for a that gun are 28, so I'm thinking i'm correct and the model with weapons costs a total of 86 points.

Experimenting with a deep strike chapter of mostly primaris units. Rate me

>1000pts Vanguard Detachment (957 used)
>Raven Guard tactics, 4 CP total (-3 due to Chapter Master)

HQ
>Terminator Captain (Chapter Master) - x2 Lightning claws, needs a good relic
>Gravis Captain - Power Sword/Bolter Gaunt

Troops

Elites
>Aggressor squad of 6 - Boltstorms and Fragstorms
>Reiver Squad of 5 - Knives and pistols
>Reiver Squad of 5 - Knives and pistols

Heavy
>Hellblasters squad of 5 - Assault incinerators

General idea was to start with the scouts positioned either in a flank or on an objective, gravis captain, and hellblasters on the map, with everyone else in reserve and the 6 Aggressors in hiding with the Raven Guard stratagem. The Aggressors pop up and the chapter master teleports within range of them asap, getting those delicious rerolls on the aggressor salvo. Snipers stay put and try to pick off weak units and characters, possibly holding an objective, while the Gravis captain sticks with the Hellblasters running in supercharging the shit out of their guns. Reivers drop down and engage from another flank in melee

>How to protect your precious elites from nefarious evildoers

So, i've been called out for being "that guy" recently for fielding an outrider detachment, consisting of three 5-man raptor squads including two plasma guns and combi-plasma for the champ. Add a Lord with Wings and another combi plasma and drop it off somewhere next to anything precious and 20 overcharged shots, ones to hit being rerollable thanks to the lord.

His AdMech was pretty much overwhelmed by the firepower, losing his destructors and belarius cawl in the first turn, later on the raptors managed to drop a knight.

Now i do feel a little bit bad about this, but the real question here is: What exactly can you do against a death star like that in 8th?

The only thing i came up with was shielding your elite units with expendable cheap recruits to prevent the enemy from dropping anywhere near priority targets. And aside from that... not much. So i really feel like i should leave the raptors at home for now, considering that i don't want to be that guy.
