Right, so some members of my group and a few of my other friends have expressed a desire to do a straight up dungeon crawl where the characters are basically nothing more than walking stat blocks.

Since I don't really want to go through the effort of designing and mapping out a dungeon, what's a good dungeon crawling module I can run them through?
>>
>>55279007
To be fair, it is used pretty aggressively. It just feels kind of lazy to use it as a catch-all for any level of antagonistic relationship between party members short of killing each other. It also feels like it's trying to make it cutesy, which triggers some people's distaste for cuteposting.
>>
>>55278868
If I make punchgirl will my group dislike me for being too cliche?
>>

Rappun Athuk.

Or just spam Don Jon over and over again.
>>
>>55279121

>>
>>55279134
If you play the character as a cliche, they might. I don't know your group to know how they react to cliches, and I don't know how you'd characterize her. If they dislike cliches, and you just slap a bunch of cliches into a character, they'll probably dislike it.
>>
>>55279124
Big Green Tower is a pretty good dungeon crawl if you're looking for little story and nothing but hard floors.
>>
>>55278867
I just want to make a fighter and use a weapon
>>
>>55279124
Maybe it's just your group's subtle way of saying you are bad at DM roleplay and they think your stories suck.
>>
So is it worth for an occultist based around transmutation to take VMC into wizard and go for transmutation there to get natural enchancement bonuses to two physical stats, get a familiar and Time Stutter, or do feats beat out those benefits?
>>
>>55279126
Exactly. It's used for everything, and then people fucking shriek that any social interaction is bullying. So it pretty much shuts down any conversation because then it becomes either cutesy flirting and babying or straight-up rape disguised as cutesy flirting.

Truthfully I feel like I'm a mediocre DM *at best* but they seem pretty happy with me. The suggestion for the dungeon crawling came from one of our outside friends. I'm guessing that the dungeon crawl group will be mostly outside friends with 1 or 2 people from the group I run for.

>>55279217
Are you referring to Emerald Spire? I was looking up "Big Green Tower" for a few minutes before it occurred to me that I may be retarded.

>>55279136
I actually have a copy of Rappan Athuk which I got from a humble book bundle ages ago that was composed of 3PP pathfinder books and was considering that though I had been wondering if there were other suggestions. As for donjon I had completely forgotten about the generator, I'll poke around with that.
>>
>>55279435
>PC walks up and strips another PC, then claims that she's now his property
>this is played off as bullying
>they roleplay rape
And this is why I don't like the word. This is why I'm wary of people who use the word. It removes any sense of scale or gravity to interparty conflict. It's all just bullying.

that's not a bad thing. this "hard edgey and oh-so winter" version of rape seems much better.
>>
>>55279409
You laugh at their possible innocence, but my immediate reading was more along the lines of "it's not rape if it's cute." I'm not sure which is more likely.
>>
>>55279369
It's usually more like
>"I think you're cute"
>"YOU'RE BULLYING ME WAAAAH"

and

>"I'm going to rape you now. Bend over."
>"Ooh, tee-hee, don't bully me silly boy~"
>>
>>55279482
>>55279529
>>55279541
The problem here is that you're dealing with people who probably haven't had any social interaction with real human beings since elementary school, where everything that wasn't formally overseen by a teacher or adult was them getting bullied.

So they see all interaction as a subset of bullying, but seek it out anyway because they think it'll make them popular. Flirting? Bullying. Compliments? Bullying. Physical abuse? Bullying. Rape? bullying. Consensual, post-marital sex? Bullying. Hugging? Bullying.

Everything that isn't blandly inserting plot or side-quest coupons into an NPC in exchange for loot, gold, and XP is bullying.
>>
>>55278994
But in that context it's usage is what bullying is, that of asserting superiority over another through physical or mental threats and abuse in order to gain something from it, whether it be actually benefits or mere amusement.
>>
>>55279608
I think you're putting way too much thought into the use of bullying in the context of /pfg/ threads.
>>
>>55279608
You're over thinking it. It's legit fucking anime in this case? Someone gropes someone, it's just bullying/teasing. You see it all the time in hentai and ecchi shit.
>>

>>
Clearly the bullying of people who don't want to see the bullying meme is an issue that needs to be discussed.

Thursday means Blingmaker greentext! Last week, the PCs had found headache-inducing ruins and a brewery ran by bandits atop a waterfall. They decided to see if they could convince these bandits, whom they heard to be friendlier than most other bandits, to ditch the Swag Lord. After negotiating with one of the bandit guards, the party was finally given permission to speak to the man's superior, Auchs- but on the condition that only Andrik, Antoinette, and Viviana go.

Session #18
>one bandit brings out some booze to chat with Branwen, Franze, and Kyras over while another takes the other PCs inside the rustic cabin to talk with their leader
>they find a quartet of bandits in the cabin but only one seems to do the talking, a rude man who cuts to the chase and asks what bargain the trio wants to make
>the offer is simple: the PCs overlook the past crimes of him and his subordinates if he refrains from sending aid to the Swag Lord when the party attacks him
>the man expresses some serious doubts that the PCs can defeat Sairok, but agrees in the end because he can feign innocence if the PCs fail
>he stresses that accepting this deal doesn't mean he owes the PCs any favors, and then tells Auchs to bring out some booze to seal the deal at Antoinette's request
>PCs realize the person they had been talking to wasn't Auchs at all, and he finally introduces himself as Udrath
>the lumbering oaf that is Auchs brings out some moonshine for the PCs and politely gives it to them before going back to the toys he was playing with before the PCs arrived
>the two halves of the party regroup and leave
>the next day, the party heads off to investigate a "temple with a troll" they heard about (triggering Kyras' PTSD in the process)
>inside, the PCs find a weird troll wearing Abadar's holy symbol getting ready to cook some guy he has tied up
>Kyras puts the troll down and Antoinette lights it on fire, but not before it somehow commands water elementals to leap from a fountain and attack

So /pfg/ 3.5 question here, I know this isn't the right place but I have a question or rather I want a second opinion

I'm currently making a character missing their left arm, I decided to go with human for the bonus feat. But the hardest part was choosing a class that would work well using one arm. Mages were an obvious choice of course but I like martial, and after learning I had a Bard and a Rogue in my party, not sure on the other two members, but I decided to go with duskblade

Now the problem was finding a weapon that I could use without any issues and be able to cast spells. That when I came across the hidden weapons in complete scoundrel which included the wrist blade, sleeve blade, knee blade and boot blade. These seemed like interesting choices since they would allow my character to be hands free to cast spells but still have plenty of weapons on hand, albeit they aren't very strong, two of them being daggers, one being a punching dagger and the last one being a short sword, but with spell channeling that's not such an issue I imagine. As for feats I was looking at obtain familiar and I was gonna go with an owl since it's sneaky and can help the rogue with scouting and whatnot, my 2nd feat though has me a bit more stumped, I was thinking arcane disciple so I can take a cleric domain and get enlarge person as a early level spell

What are your thoughts and opinions on this idea?

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/magical-beasts/amarok/

How dangerous is this monster for a CR 12, assuming it is encountered alone (as the "organization" line and the lore prescribe), from a distance, and from a surprise round?
>>
>>55284103
Ah, this thing...

It all depends? A party of 4 with surprise could put the hurt on it in the single surprise round they get.

Meanwhile, it'd only get a single attack off, and it's Perception/Stealth modifiers aren't high enough that the party probably wouldn't notice it th next turn.
>>
>>55284202
Perception distance penalties.
>>
>>55284215
It also suffers from them? I mean unless this is middle of the night, which admittedly makes sense, and it's taking advantage of its See in Darkness ability.

In that case, yeah, it's hella dangerous.

Also distance penalties are fucking retarded because according to them, the average human wouldn't notice a mugging going on 150m or so away from them in broad daylight on an open field.

It CAN be incredibly dangerous, but if they have distance and ranged weaponry, they could probably kill it using sniping before it can kill one of their allies. That bite damage can be deadly to a caster though.

How?

If its bite attack hits, the amarok can attempt to trip and grab the target. When the amarok grabs a creature in this way, the creature doesn’t move, but the amarok visibly wrestles with the shadowy image and the creature appears to be grappling with thin air.

It's effectively paralyzing the character, but only if it gets a pin attack.

>>
>>55285991
The creature can bite and grapple you at range. It can also pin you at range, and then coup de grace you. True sight means no invisibility to get close. If it has friends, then you're in trouble (see pin+coup de grace above). And while it has you grappled at a distance, you're not actually able to hurt it, unlike a standard grapple. Remember that it doesn't need to pin you even - it can just do damage every round. That much damage will kill your average flying, invisible wizard in four rounds - remember, it just has to see you and it has true sight.
>>
>>55286173
>and then coup de grace you
It can't. You need to actually be in melee to CdG. The ability doesn't extend to CdG's.

Also
>what is a party?
While the thing is chewing on a single party member and dealing 4d6+15 every turn (average 29!), the rest of the party can annihilate it.
>>
>>55286187
No, you don't need to be in melee to coup de grace. You just have to have a target helpless. You can even use a bow if you are adjacent. If it's hitting you and can grapple your soul, why can it not use a coup de grace on your soul?
>>
>>55286169
>>55286187

What you're both forgetting, is that it has Improved Grapple.

Move Action maintain the grapple to either bite or pin. Standard action IVS the grappled target.

Final damage: 16d6 + 30 for an average of 86.
>>
>>55286227
>Coup de Grace
>As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace (pronounced “coo day grahs”) to a helpless opponent. You can also use a bow or crossbow, provided you are adjacent to the target.

You aren't within reach, so it can't CdG.

Categorically wrong. It can coup de gras you with it's soul bite because you are treated as if you are in reach.

Lets take this hypothetical situation:
Pathfinder mechanics but starfinder gear.

So firearms will be everywhere, crazy damage die all around and iterative attacks. Assuming EAC armor values translates to touch (maybe as deflection ac?).

Will melee even remain competitive in this scenario?

I'm thinking of going with some sort of mounted guy so I can enter melee quickly, stack damage die with spirited charge and force AoOs once I do get in.
>>
>>55288227
In that scenario? Yes. Assuming that also Starfinder melee weapons are ported. meaning they remain massively useful because of predominantly higher scaling. It's really risk vs. reward of whether you want to bash heads in and get bashed or do you want to turn the field before you into a series of enemy shaped holes without risking your own life.
>>
>>55288227
How well would Pathfinder handle armor that can give you +22 touch and normal AC before dex and enchantments?

Outside of that, I think the only thing that would really suffer would be Unwieldy weapons. Though if you're already looking at Vital Strike, that 13d12 Doshko is still pretty attractive...

So Spheres of Power's Weather Sphere. Tell me about it, anons. It never seems like it would ever be reasonable to spec into it, and it overlaps heavily with nature, so I honestly can't tell what it's supposed to be good for outside of the potential lategame "fuck that place, and everyone in it"-ness of throwing [un-]natural disasters at entire cities. That seems like the kind of thing that would get a book thrown at your head though.
>>
>>55288310
This is partially why I'm thinking a mounted lancer might be my best bet.

Ride by/wheeling charge would be my go-to in situations where I want to try for a kill but dont want to stick around. Maybe I can kill one guy in a formation, keep charging and hopefully have enough movement to break line of sight.

Shit like slow to keep the enemy from making iteratives might also be top tier.
>>
>>55288374
>+22 AC
Shit, I never thought about it that way. So everyone with top tier armor is essentially packing the equivalent of +5 full plate and shield.

This might be tricky before shit like nat armor and dodge bonuses get taken into account.
>>
>>55288496
Except this full plate and shield combo now has +8 max dex bonus. If you want the Starfinder fullplate, that's giving you +~26 touch and 27 normal AC with +5 max dex. I'm not really well versed in PF optimization, but that sounds to me like it would lead to a little more whiffing than normal.

Could unarmored classes even keep up with that?
>>
>>55288452
Congrats you figured out why no one likes the Weather Sphere, and why it's considered universally the worst part of SoP. Honestly, in my opinion it should be dismantled, it's component parts given to different Nature packages, and it's huge area stuff converted to Advanced Talents
>>
Hey anon, I need your opinion on some house rules I've been working on.

So, I like PoW, and I think it's got a lot of cool stuff. However, I feel it's just slightly overturned, not just in terms of damage, but also from Action Economy standpoint. So I came up with these rules to just lower that problem by a little bit, while still allowing PoW classes and Manuevers to be useful. Tell me what you think of these two rules:
>Limited to 1 manuever per round
>Cannot perform a Boost in the same round as a Full-Attack Action

Is the first one too much though?

>>

>>
>>55290021
PCs and enemies use different rules. PCs have high AC and low to-hit, which makes it harder for an enemy to Dominate your DPR and kill the party. Enemies nominally have low AC and high to-hit, but since the bestiary hasn't been released yet, we don't really know how the formulas and actual stat blocks will line up with that.
>>
>>55289834
>>Limited to 1 manuever per round
This is unnecessary. The only place action economy has issues is the "lol I recover maneuvers as essentially a free action classes/archetypes" and the Entirety of Riven Hourglass.
>>
>>55288452
You've pretty much got it exactly. It's one of the great missteps of SoP.
>>

If my Lizard Wizard takes another Lizard as a familiar, such as a family member or something, and that Lizard later also takes levels of Wizard, can the Lizard newly-Wizard familiar make the original Lizard Wizard their familiar too? More broadly, is there anything stopping a familiar from having its master as a familiar in general as long as A) the familiar somehow has the ability to gain a familiar of its own and B) the master is a sort of creature that can become a familiar? Would the Improved Familiar feat affect this in any way?
>>
>>55292287
So you're trying to make a lizard wizard's wizard lizard a wizard, and the lizard wizard the lizard wizard's wizard lizard's wizard lizard?
>>
>>55292264
They actually have a default caster level, they just use the wielder's if it's higher than it.

For example Staff of Minor Arcana by default is CL 8th, a 9th level or higher caster uses their own. Anyone using UMD would only get CL 8th.
>>
>>55292398
Actually the lizards are just stand-ins so I don't have to full explain the elaborate context of the scenario, which actually involves a fairy dragon and an as-yet undetermined other creature, but basically yes.
>>
What's the currently recruiting set of games look like?
>>
>>55292452
This is fucking stupid and you should honestly kill yourself for attempting something remotely like this, but no. You can't have a class feature with class levels. You're Lizard Wizard can't be a familiar because if it can be Wizard it is now a magical beast, not an animal. The moment it stops being a regular animal, it ceases to be your familiar.

Seriously though, fuck you. You're everyone wrong with RPGs.
>>
>>55292660
What about improved familiar tho
>>
>>55292660
>can't be a familiar because if it can be a wizard it is now a magical beast

Uh, familiars are already magical beasts? That might stop them from becoming a familiar again for someone else since only "unmodified animals" can be familiars but it's not going to stop them from taking a familiar of their own or gaining class levels as far as I know. And improved familiars don't have to be unmodified animals anyway, so that gets tossed out the window regardless, which is why I asked about the feat.
>>
>>55292698
The only improved familiar that can have wizard levels would be the unicorn familiar from ponyfinder.
>>

>>
>>55291675
>>55292896
I liked Calcific Touch, but ran into the problem that generally creatures died of HP damage before DEX damage. Still, it debuffed them along the way, and for dealing with creatures that have a low DEX score like big dragons, you can probably petrify them. I picked it up along with Aversion for my Magus, and also later grabbed Permanency (along with Enervation, but I took Spell Blending the second time specifically for Permanency). If you're looking for some lower level options though, I dunno. Heightened Awareness is my favorite 1st level Wizard spell. Tough of Fatigue might be better to spam than Arcane Mark, but the DC will be trash so it's a quantity over quality thing there. You'd hoping that if you use it often enough, some things will fail their save now and then.

That doesn't do anything remotely relevant to crossbows, in fact it means you're even more likely to just use a longbow instead since you get proficiency in martial weapons rather than any exotics (which the launching crossbow happens to be)

Explosive Missile is also a single standard action to use a bomb that attaches it to a not-touch-attack ammunition, not a general splash weapon ability.

Which two magic rings would you buy for most characters, assuming the price tags are not an issue?

Rings of Three Wishes and Major Spell Storing are tempting, but for me I think it has to be a Ring of Freedom of Movement and a Ring of Protection +5 if we're just talking about a vacuum, not a specific character (like I might forgo the Ring of Protection on a full caster, especially if I can cast spells like Shield of Faith).

You do know it would be easy to write a character with those qualities, right? She's a noblewoman who has been given the role of her family's shrine maiden, and for reasons pertinent to the plot she has been forced to use her considerable knightly skills out adventuring with low-life ruffians!
>>
>>55296009
She's also a robot, but not just any robot, a MAID ROBOT!

Because Enhancement isn't just about buffs, it's about increasing other natural capabilities as well as the animation of objects, think of it as Reinforcement from Nasuverse. Whereas War is about moving allies, setting up area buffs, and controlling the battlefield like Eddie Riggs from Brutal Legend

>running Carrion Crown with friends
>Finally not a GM for once
>Decide to make a slightly racist Dwarf Cleric (Basically sees that everyone needs to live up to the greatness of the dwarves) and run with him being so used to the Five Kings Mountains that he's rude and ignorant of the little things that the other races do, so much so that I dump his charisma to 7.
>Some of the first things he does is complain about the lack of a wall around the city, comment on the lack of proper stonework, and the small size of the town guard.
>Pretty much becomes a sort of comic relief character that everyone shrugs off or ignores in the party and around town.
>Ends up badgering the town into straitening up the guard and getting a proper wall going.
>After this he notes that there's no real proper roads from the starting town to the next one.
>Manages to bribe, convince, and complete paperwork to get proper roads going between the towns, along with a few others.
>Begins to see it as Torag telling him to bring back solidarity to the country.
>Recently beggered himself to get a trade caravan going to a bunch of ratfolk living in a burnt out town (added by GM to give the party a place to buy/sell items between books) to strengthen it and encourage more people.
>Is now the moral core of the Party after they committed dark deeds
>Also now a War Priest since he no longer needed to be the channel spammer for book 1.

I'm not certain how this happened but I'm OK with it.

>>55296715
This sounds like one of those rare "benevolent racism" types here

It makes sense if your dwarf thinks that because all of the other races are not as great as the dwarves, its his duty to go help the 'lesser races'

Definitely condescending but definitely noble too, I would assume that being one of the two long-lived typical PC races aside from elves would cause you to see most people as literally children
>>
>>55296781
Pretty much.

He saw it less as 'Everyone else as inferior' and more 'You're doing it wrong! The Dwarven way will show you how its done."

He's out grown it a little as its gone on, although he still champions the 'Dwarves are great' attitude but is a bit more open to other methods, although he is still dissappointed at the lack of good stone work.

At this point, though, his goal is basically to get Ustavlav functioning as a kingdom again bit by bit.

Which has involved him making hundred and thousand gold donations to various organizations to get roads and other things running.

He actually turned down a vision from Desna due to her not being Torag, although he was fairly polite about it, while the party accepted the gift
>>
>>55296715
Honestly he sounds like he's channeling some abadar/erastil tendencies there too. "Stop being fuckups and make damn sure your home is safe, make good shit and trade with people you cunts".

More abadar than erastil though.
>>
>>55297008
At this point there is an argument being made in the Party if he's worshiping Abadar by building roads and encouraging Civilization, Desna by building the roads and keeping them protected, Erastil by getting everyone's shit together, or Pharasma due to the amount of undead killing, on top of aforementioned Torag worship.

Considering he got a small gift from Torag's herald in the form of a silver hand he can punch shit with as if it were a gauntlet that deals bonus damage to items/constructs, the last is still firmly the case.

/pfg/, tell me about the dorn-dergar:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment/weapons/weapon-descriptions/dorn-dergar-dwarven/

1d10 with no threat range and only a x2 multiplier seems weak but the ability to swap between close-range and reach, and the fact that it's just a sodding great steel ball on a length of chain, are making it attractive to me. Additionally you can wield it one-handed if you take the feat for it:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/dorn-dergar-master-combat/

Sometimes things which are cool are also good - is this also true of the big ball?

>What kind of action is it to remove your hand from a two-handed weapon or re-grab it with both hands?
>Both are free actions. For example, a wizard wielding a quarterstaff can let go of the weapon with one hand as a free action, cast a spell as a standard action, and grasp the weapon again with that hand as a free action; this means the wizard is still able to make attacks of opportunity with the weapon (which requires using two hands).
>As with any free action, the GM may decide a reasonable limit to how many times per round you can release and re-grasp the weapon (one release and re-grasp per round is fair).
>>
Hey /pfg/, I come to you seeking knowledge.

I'm not an experienced player in that most of my characters built have been healers or very simple damage dealers sub-level 5, but apparently a year ago for a one shot, I made a Level 5 Psychic Samsaran that seems to revolve around metamagic-Magic Missile.

It had Magical Lineage & Wayang Spell Hunter traits applied to Magic Missile, and it had Toppling Spell, Dazing Spell, and Heighten Spell as feats.

Thing is, I have no idea how that setup could possibly work for a level 5 Psychic, let alone how I could've possibly played it effectively - If I'm reading and understanding this correctly, casting a Magic Missile with Dazing and Toppling applied would raise the used spell slot to a level 5 spell, which would then be lowered to a level 3 spell slot via the traits, which is still a spell slot I wouldn't even have access to as a level 5 Psychic; yet my one and only memory of this character is of him casting a barrage of 3 missiles at an enemy and having both the effects daze and trip affect it, giving all of my other party members surrounding it AoOs.

It's worth noting that, although I'm obviously not well versed in the mechanics/rules of Pathfinder, my DM at the time very much was, meaning this build either worked, or was "allowed" to work through some manner of DM mercy.

So I guess my question is either, "How the hell did that work," or, "How the hell does metamagic work in situations where it raises the spell slot used up to a level the caster doesn't even have?" ... Or is there something I've completely forgotten about how this build worked?

Today, my sister and I sat down to play through Kirby's Epic Yarn- and it's lead me to start thinking about adventure design. For, you see, it is my belief that Kirby's Epic Yarn is one of the most 'comfy' games to ever exist.

-The aesthetic of the entire game is yarn and woollen patches. Everything looks soft and fluffy, interacting with the environment involves a lot of unzipping and unwinding.
-There's bits where you go behind the backdrop and little soft bumps in the cloth appear for your character.
-The music is, naturally, very melodic and warm
-The prologue is spoken by a mellow nursery-rhyme narrator in a fairy-tale fashion.
-The fundamental story is very begin and simple- wind together the Patch World and foil the evil yarn-wizard.

All of this, however, misses the fact that ultimately, the game's purpose is not about completing the story, or even defeating the nominal BBEG.

The entire purpose of the game is home decoration. Throughout the levels you find patches of home decoration items- chandeliers, chairs, vases, music, wallpaper. As levels go on you decorate houses for various residents for them to live there, you can decorate your own little private space, and so forth.

I'm not finishing with any particularly huge or momentous conclusion. I just find it interesting to see a game where a single design goal- comfiness- has been created by arranging so many different parts of the game's design.

I like to get into this sort of sillyness when I think about building residences for a character. How they would work, what types of functions they would fill, what amenities would they have.

I love the idea of towers but they're so hard to find floorplans for, and coming up with them myself is hard because I am no architect or engineer. I had a character living out of a(n intended to eventually be magical) wagon once, just the idea of simple things like having a bathtub and cooking a delicious meal over a fire is super pleasing. Especially when you get to travel with other great companions who have their own exceptional abilities to help out.

A wagon that's the size of a 4 bedroom house on the inside is super comfy for traveling in.

>A wagon that's the size of a 4 bedroom house on the inside is super comfy for traveling in.

>>
>>55299006
... what? I have no idea what you're talking about.
>>
>>55298956

It's not the size of a 4-bedroom house, but a Home Away sounds kind of like what you're talking about:

>A wooden roof and walls line this horse-drawn caravan wagon. By uttering a command word, the wagon’s owner can change the color and patterns that cover the wagon’s sides, creating text or images, or can cause one wall to unfold into a stage. The home away’s interior contains foldaway beds, desks, and cupboards, and can accommodate up to six Medium creatures. The interior is always warm and dry regardless of outside conditions, protecting anyone within from any weather short of hurricane-force winds. Once per week, the home away’s owner can pull the wagon’s kingbolt, causing it to unfurl into a 60-foot-wide tent with the same coloration as the wagon. The owner can declare a purpose for the tent as she pulls the bolt—such as celebration, meetings, performance, or wilderness survival—and the tent creates bleachers, tables, beds, and other simple furniture to accommodate this purpose.

Dragons1 apparently has a carriage that's house-sized on the inside, complete with kotatsu.

Neat, I did a whole bunch of investigations into roma wagons when I was initially looking things up and they're spectacular. Depending on the size they'd have wood-stoves, could accommodate four or five people (though it would be a little cramped). So many space-saving measures went into them.

It would be expected that you'd move into your own wagon once you hit a certain age though. The character I was playing was adopted into a Varisian band at a young and travelled with them in her own wagon into her early adulthood.
>>
>>55299144
Where did they expect you to GET your own wagon? I mean, was it assumed that you'd build one yourself at some point? Buy one from some place? Or did the family work together to build one for you?

>>
So I am playing a noble with the following hobbies:
>horse breeding

>chess
>strategy & warfare (in general)
>linguistics/language (he knows some 15 languages)

Is this enough to interact with most other nobles, particularly ones above his station?
>>
>>55299246
Roma were some of the few people who were legally allowed to own, breed and trade horses in a *lot* of places. Bad things tended to happen when they stayed in one place or tried to establish communities... so they traveled. They used to live with much "cheaper" carts at certain periods of time, often sleeping underneath them... then in the 1800's the vardo was made.

Being able to sell horses (as well as steal them and move them to other places then sell them) turned gypsies a profit, so they commissioned them from specialist coach-builders (either as families or newlyweds) and it took up to 6mo to a year for them to be built.

Sometimes you could get one as a coming of age thing. My character trained under the wise woman of the band and also did some minor trading of precious gems and jewelry (having seasonal trade with dwarves, whose language she learned to speak). She was well-respected but being plane-touched and a spellcaster, she was respected enough that people didn't want to intrude upon her privacy either, so she got one quite early despite being unwed.

Can you tell us more about the flavor of your campaign?
>>
>>55299246
They were migrant workers of ye olde days, for most they'd do seasonal farm labor, then they'd move off with their carts. They were also tree-surgeons aka, lumber-jacks before log drives, which meant they transported lumber in their carts, horse traders, entertainment novelties, and even tarmackers (road-builders!) and seasonal traders. They moved close to cities near winters and left once they could travel again.

So yeah. Show up to a dorf fort a few years in a row selling lumber and other things, and eventually the dorf notices your wee-one is getting a bit bigger, you hash out a deal that he builds your kid a wagon and in exchange he gets to keep the surplus of this lumber shipment as well as a discount on the next one or something like a pony or two, and then next year when you show up the wagon is done.

So I'm joining a group and this will be the first session we're all doing and so far we got a roleplay heavy bard as well as a rogue that says he's not built for combat which is all fine and dandy but we also have someone who has never played before and a player who won't be there but he's a mystery.

So I have to decide what to play, and while I do like the idea of a roleplay heavy group but it doesn't sound like we're ready for combat really, cause it sounds like we could use several things to round out the party but I'm not sure what I wanna play, I was thinking a duskblade but now I'm not so sure
