I might be mistaken, but it seems that Saurus Scar-veteran on Carnosaur works better as a unit-supporting general than Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur. He is also 40pts cheaper. Am I wrong? Did I miss any Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur secret potential?

Allegiance: Seraphon

Leaders
Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (240)
- General
- War Spear
- Trait: Mighty War Leader
- Artefact: Coronal Shield
Skink Starpriest (80)

Battleline
20 x Saurus Warriors (200)
- Spears
5 x Saurus Knights (100)
- Lances

5 x Saurus Knights (100)

Behemoths
Troglodon (180)

Total: 1000/1000

Also if my army has both ORDER and SERAPHON allegiance, can I mix the allegiance abilities or I have to stick with only one set of abilities? Defiant Avengers seems to be a great battle trait but I prefer Seraphon command traits and artefacts

What faction do you guys think improved the most with GHB17?

Personally I think that Fyreslayers have evolved from a trash fire faction without any defining features to a fairly good contender against most other factions.

Literally read the book.
>>
>>55185625
You run a list a lot like a friend of mine does; we took a look at it and concluded the Scar-Vet is probably the better choice than the Oldblood too. Defiant Avenger is good, but it's nearly pointless with Seraphon given how you all have Bravery 10 - you have to stick with just one set, and Seraphon Allegiance is far better suited to you.

Thin your paints. No, really - don't be afraid to thin them much. You can always just put a second or thrid coat and that's fine

Mate, even Duncan started as shitty painter. Be patient, wait until your paints dry before applying another coat and wash your brushes as often as possible.

Interested in rolling soulblight with the new allegiance abilities:

1x Vamp Lord on Zombie Dragon (440)
- Deathlance, Dragon warrior bloodline and mist form ability for charge bonus every turn
- scabbing plate for healing

1x Vamp Lord (140)

Battleline:

2x5 Blood Knights (260)

1x3 Vargheists(160)

Allies:
1x Mourngul (400)

Reserve: 340 pts, enough for a unit of spirit hosts and morghasts (can bring whichever flavor is needed).

Total 2000/2000

Thoughts?

The Carnosaur will be doing a lot of the work, pretty much everything else is just tarpits to keep enemies in place until he can reach them. The Starpriest does work in my experience, but I've most commonly seen him used against Khorne Daemons where Summon Starlight is absolutely brutal so I'm likely biased. Saurus Knights don't do as much damage as you'd think, but the fact they and warriors ignore -1 Rend makes them tanker than you'd expect. Don't forget to teleport either - it's nor worth basing a whole strategy on, but it has its moments, either for contesting objectives and denying less mobile enemies VPs early on or getting a character you need to protect well out of the way.

Newb painter here-- it seems like some of the paint is, for lack of a better word, disappearing, from the model. Like, gray that was painted over brown becomes gray again, like the paint is flowing away. There's no pooling at the feet of the model, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Then apply another layer and the third one if needed. Don't worry about this Anon - you have plenty of dryads and you will probably buy another start collecting for 1000pts army. Use dryads to practice so you can paint your tree lord properly

I'm okay with this. As long as they are not totally useless I don't find them to be a waste of points. I will probably drop them for guards one day but now they should work as a good list filler.

Tzeentch warscroll cards are up for pre-orders. Was there an announcement? Maybe we will see more cards soon I hope
>>
>>55186017
The shield isn't a terrible artefact, but I'd definitely take a different trait - Inspiring presence isn't something you need nearly as much as other armies do. Thick-Scaled Hide is probably the best, since the re-roll Disciplined Fury gives can't be used with the Carnosaur's attacks. Don't forget Bloodroar either against armies vulnerable to Battleshock.

Your idea of swapping Knights for guard is a good one. If nothing else they're relatively nimble, letting you teleport more important things.

The Troglodon is a unit I've not seen, but I think it's probably more useful than an Oldblood at 1k. It'll distract fire from your Carnosaur more effectively, and you can always use it to hunt down straggler units if the Carnosaur has to 'port away and deal with something bigger.

It's getting the paint on the brash, dabbing it on some rag to get most of the paint off, then scratching the surface with the brush, right?

I think I get the concept, I just really came up short when applying it. And by short, I mean like, I forgot the entire concept while applying it.

No way. Clanrats without LoW and CoC support are just board spam - nothing more

I don't think so. Maybe if GW will release a SoD Ogres kit separately but right now moulder has nice plastic models available only in one two-player box. Right now building a mono-moulder is just to hard logistic-wise
>Which weapon team will you be allying in?
Flamethrower teams are amazing. I love the way they are killing enemy heroes. Mortarsare fine too but they are more situational
>Grey seer versus Engineer
Well, fuck. Since my mixed-skaven army is fuckin dead I have to pick engineer. I love this model and I'm using one as my skirmish warband general but I don't really want to play mono-skryre - I would rather start a brand new non-skaven army
>>
>>55187511
On a mounted Runeson the javelin is kinda wasted, you want the guy in melee, where the axe is just plain better.
On foot it's still not amazing, but with access to the Meteoric Axe relic there's a potential ranged build that's not half bad at supporting armies from behind.
Warrior Kinband is very solid at fixing the most glaring issues of the Vulkites, i.e. their shitty weapon range despite being a horde unit. With double the throws they can contribute quite well from outside melee range and the improved pile-in range gets more guys in there. It's not a bad idea to have a ranged Runeson trailing along behind those Vulkite gangs, too.
>>
>>55187619
What this anon >>55187709 said is true imo. However I don't consider the mortar fine since they don't do a lot in a game. Flamethrowers are good & ratling are very nice when they get closer.

ArchWarlock for the win, great spell, Double cast & a nice 3+ save to help him survive. Grey seer casting one spell per turn is heresy so i don't play him anymore even if I love the mini.

The best advice I can possibly give you isn't just to thin your paints. It's that you haven't thinned them enough. No, more. More. Twice as thin as that. Do it again. Can you see through them yet? Then keep thinning.

As for looking like the pros- no, you won't, but you'll be a damn site more prepared than they were to start with. Image related, and it's not a joke.

Looks ok but you seem pretty undermanned. The Zombie dragon looks pretty impressive but I would say vs heavy infantry or mass light infantry your army may find some serious issues.

I would suggest replace the Vamp lord on Zombie Dragon for more infantry as since AoS has a lot of objective based stuff which is bolstered by more numerous infantry, I think your points would be better invested in that than going Hero Hammer.
>>
>>55188493
We don't want to give bad advice, and no one plays them so

>>55185706
Duncan's vids teach the basic GW way of base, wash, base, highlight. There are more advanced painting methods that you'll get into later, but it's a solid foundation to learn.
Thin your paints, work in layers, and wash your brush off every three or four times you put paint on it so it doesn't dry on the brush and fuck the bristles up.
Also remember that these dudes are meant to be looked at arm's length on a table not with your eyeball 3mm from it, don't sweat minor mistakes, you can always touch them up or redo them, and working in layers softens the impact of fuckups as well.

That I don't know. I only have my reference based on infantry, In infantry, spears are considered better because of their range advantage but that's mostly to do with ranks and people getting in the way. I would suggest look at the attacks, hit and wound probabilities and rend/damage.

If you want more killyness then go for that one but normally, just from my GA Chaos book, the swords tend to be good for heroes.

Also we do answer questions if we can just AoS has a few trolls lurking about as of late. Normally if you don't get an answer is because people either don't know or its downtime. What helps is posting an image of your faction with your query, cause at least then people will read it.
>>
>>55188756
Well, I would stick with one color palette. Maybe try with different shades of brown for the start to learn how to mix colours etc?
>>
>>55188767
It looks nice but not sure if you purposelly made it look like it was dead wood. Perhaps mix some colours on the loin cloth at the botton and maybe put some contrast colour on the eyes, green or red. The paint is there but it looks a little too regimental and dry in its scheme. That said if that's what you're going for, sure its grand.
>>
>>55188767
Put another layer of drybrushing on, but be a lot softer as you do it so it's like a highlight drybrush in a way. Have the color be a bright green to draw out the differences between recesses and midtones as it's a little samey and muddled atm.
Those designs on his clothes will look great with that lighter green as well.

>>
>>55188718
Not him, but they are very even in the end, the difference is negligible. I prefer the sword, as it offers more in a protracted fight, but the model is mobile enough to be generally assured the charge.
The question between chalice and shield is more significant.
>>
>>55188845
dead wood often has bright moss growing on it so it can be in theme.

I was thinking moot green or elysian green. Caliban green is probably too dark, but give it a try-mix with a tiny dab of white and a much tinyer dab of orange and just see how it looks, we're in the lab on this one anyway!

The Lance and Sword have the same range, believe it or not. In fact, their only differences are:
Sword gets 4 attacks and D3 damage

That's why Anon was planning on taking Mist Form for his Command Ability, as it lets your General retreat and charge in the same turn.

Overall though, how does the highlighting and overall color look in regards to a finished model? Could/should I use this scheme for the rest of the unit? I'm just trying to make sure it doesn't look ridiculous compared to how a sylvaneth army is -supposed- to be painted.

I am mainly thinking red on the eyes to give this sinister look to them. It will also act as a nice contrast to the mono colouring.

my hobby revival friend is a dwarf player who's more into gaming than painting, i won't be surprised if he brings his long drong slayer pirates i painted for him 10+ years ago (and find the rules to make them work)

one of the new guys likes lizardmen so i gave him some 5th edition starter skinks, saurusses and and a metal terradon to make general

the other new guy is undecided, he likes stormcast or sylvaneth

i havn't played since 6th after that it was only modelling and painting. it already feels good knowing i'm going to throw some dice again soon. i'm trying to build a small comminty and there's also new lgs in a city nearby wich seems friendly enough

>is Spire of Dawn worth splitting with someone
Yes
>Will it set me up nicely for Skaven
Oh yes
>are Skaven decent? Do they cost a ton to build an army for?
Nah and nah.

Listen boi. Spire of Dawn is a great source of models for 3 different clans. You have plenty of infantry for verminus, weapon teams for skryre and neat ogres for moulder.
- Right now verminus are shit on their own but in casual games they work as a fine board spam. Clanrats are not as good as they used to be but believe me - you want them.
- Weapon teams and warlock engineer are your must-have for any skryre army. Clan Skryre just got new allegiance abilities so if you play them on their own you will be allowed to use really nice stuff
- Moulder is just Moulder tho

With two Spire of Dawn boxes you are more than fine to build a nice casual army.
If you want play skryre then you need two SoD boxes (weapoooon teams), 2 stormfiends boxes for battlelines and ~2 Warp Lightning Cannons - believe me, you want these cannons. You can always take the clanrats and say that you are using them as skryre acolytes - your second skryre battleline option.

And to top it off some nasty shooting. Not a lot of bodies, but any opinions?

I understand you mate.
Listen, I bought each SoD box for 225PLN. I sold the Aelf half with round bases for ~50%. Then I sold the square bases for 40PLN. The final cost of a SoD was 65PLN - the fuckin clanrat box costs something like 80PLN.
Find the aelf player in your area and talk with him about 50/50 cost splitting but keep the square bases - you can also try to find someone on FB groups. Find a whfb group and sell them square bases for few bucks. If you play it well, you will end up with 2 SoD boxes but you will actually pay for them less than you would pay for a single start collecting box

The "Nagash : The Undying King" exclusive novel says that Arkan, Mannfred, and Neferata in AoS are not the original ones from WHFB. They are constructs that Nagash created from his memories of them. These three don't really remember what happened in the Old World. It's so vague and blurry to them. It's always on the edges of their minds but they always fail to fully recall what had been.

This raises a few questions. What happened to the originals? Why did Nagash choose to remember and bring back Mannfred?

They died. The whole world died. Nagash was the Incarnate of Shyish, so he was one of the few that survived.
>>
>>55192862
Please let this be true, but let chariots be the same base as old ones
>>
>>55192799
The models were released with that already planned.

Here is why:

"Now why he bought mannfred back? They have not gone into much detail why vlad is not back honestly he is more kind of a "relic" character. They do explain why nagash like's mannfred hell he views him like a "son" now.

Nagash states in lord of undeath the recent realm gate novel that the reason why he favors Mannfred so much despite the crap he pulls is that he values his twisted mind and he will always have need of it. Out of his Mortarch's he only call's mannfred Princling, Errant Child or Prodigal son if you know the bible story this is quite interesting. I mean did anyone see that Mannfred would end the world as revenge? Heck no.

Neferata sums up mannfred well in pretty much two lines in in the lord of Undeath AOS novel. When she explaining to her thrall vampire what kind of person/vampire mannfred is when they were looking for him since nagash wants his "prodigal son" back to deal with chaos. Her thrall called him weak/coward for recovering in his castle of Nachtsreik after getting bisected in a previous battle in another novel.

Neferata: "You should be careful not to underestimate Mannfred you will rue the day if you cross him. He is the kind of person you do not wish for as an enemy for if you wrong him, he will chase you down until the end of your days to ensure your destruction."
>>
Cont.>>55192919

"So yeah Mannfred is the new scion of the von carsteins in AOS unless GW feel like blowing the dust off of Vlad.

He never calls Neferata or Arkhan his child through out the novel.

Nagash said his schemes and avarice put's Neferata's ones to shame. He does note that now he does not mind his Mortarch's plotting and out of all his Mortarch's Mannfred resisted chaos the most because of his uncanny planning. He wishes neferata thought more further than her flesh and immediate needs, Nagash actually wants Arkhan to have "some" ambition(Instead of thinking he is a mindless drone) but his problem with Mannfred is that he overestimates himself at the worst of times.

Nagash normally let's mannfred in on some aspects of his plan because he knows he would figure most of it out and has the ability to help him complete it because of his tenacity. Mannfred is also fully aware at times when Nagash is exerting his influence on him to achieve some end compared to neferata.

Now why mannfred still serves nagash? The way he has been written it seems he has learned from past mistakes and act's more in Vlad's manner well he has learned patience. He states in nagash's novel he has fully accepted Nagash is his master unlike neferata and he will be patient for the time for he can escape his servitude. Honestly Mannfred has an argument with Arkhan who is the better servant after he beats him in one other novel. :P

Plus Nagash knows that Mannfred will ALWAYS view sigmar and his warriors as an enemy and that is something he needs out of him as well. While neferata is trying to ally with them to escape nagash (which does not work since he is fully aware of her plans).

Mannfred's past actions in the old world has turned him into a pariah of sorts to the point where even living nagash worshipers know of him and are told never to trust him.
>>
>>55192919
I can see why everyone keeps viewing him as a son; He's such an immature little cunt.

"One interesting note that Vlad's ring and Kemmlers cloak of mist and shadows were turned into magical artifacts for all the Death faction. So I don't think they are coming back.

It also helps that mannfred is a part of a new and expensive kit."
TLDR; He values his twisted mind and his backstabbing ways and considers him a "child"/son now but nagash has problems with him overestimating himself. Plus he hates sigmar and his warriors which also helps. I mean hell he out did him in the death chart by ending the world and accidentally giving nagash god hood. The events of WHFB is still canon sometimes they are referenced in the books.

Mannfred is still somewhat of a Pariah due to the point where even human worshipers of nagash tell a lord celestant he is not to be trusted. When Mannfred is acting tour guide to the underworld so they can parley with Nagash.

Why vlad is not back this is merely my opinion. Well Nagash doesn't want to resurrect him since he does not need him and would not serve him if there is any hint that Isabella is alive. Plus he does not have a shiny new model like mannfred. Oh and isabella is hinted to be alive in AOS as well."

This is from the Total Warhammer thread on AoS Lore. Which is actually a good source of info.

The Ripsnikk's Raiders batallion in the spire of dawn book is 1 warlord, 2 units of clanrats, 1 unit of rat ogors, 1 packmaster, 1 warlock engineer, 1 warpfire thrower, 1 poisoned wind mortar...

If you take these units and pay the 80 points for the batallion benefits, can you still do that under a regular Chaos Allegiance? Like can I take this spire of dawn set, use the batallion abilities, and then add in other skaven pieces or if I add other skaven pieces do I no longer get the batallion?

GW needs a death posterboys faction. The best way to make some money on this would be a brand new faction release. They also know that new players don't want to play with some generic skellies - newbies want a neat thematic faction like aztec skellies or viking skellies or any other "thematic" skellies. With NuKing release GW will kill two bird with one stone - they will please both newfags and oldfags

I'm thinking about getting a small AoS army and seeing how things go, i'm a really really really slow painter though and I'd like to offset this by picking something stupidly easy to paint, currently torn between Nurgle/Plague monks and Skeletons. just wondering what the general state of these guys is at the moment.

>>

I think they'd be too worried about sabotaging a portion of their fanbase; while AoS players are pretty uncaring about indulging in WHF content, some WHF fans are still insanely upset over the whole affair and would probably raise a big stink about it. Personally I wouldn't want to deal with that unless GW was paying me big money to do it

>>55195598
Against Samecast great weapons are good for the rend, but you lose the shield. Otherwise halbreds are fine.

Honestly it doesnt matter too much because they are so similar. Its more important to get the buffs on them like oracular visions, etc
>>
>>55195598
How big is your squad? The reach on halberds will matter the more dudes you have.
How common are mortal wounds? The shields are nice vs that.
Statistically, the weapons all suck within a pretty close spread (1 avg wound for the halberds, 2-3 for the "greatblades" per 10 swings vs 4+ save).

Purely aesthetically, a legion of chaos warriors with tower shields look amazing imo.

This looks like you're just slapping random colors on using techniques you picked up from a YouTube video but don't really have a deep understanding of.

What color do you even want these to be? You went from a brown that you wanted a mossy look on to like a dark green-blue that is muddy and not very tree-like.

I suggest following a formula from the get go instead of deciding on colors and applying drybrushes of colors that sit in awkward places comparatively to the things you're layering them on the color wheel.

He's meme-ing, don't pay him any regard.

Sisters of the Thorn are pretty damn good because they have one of the best spells in the game, Shiled of Thorns. That said, they need a unit worth buffing with that, such as Eternal Guard, to really shine.
Also, you'll want them as allies (since Sylvaneth allegiance is *very* important to the Sylvaneth units), but they cost too much to bring as allies at 500.
For friendly games it's fine, but be prepared for an uphill struggle.

This character was removed from the game because of his ability that called for insulting your opponent. GW even said themselves that "these warscrolls have been updated to be consistent with the tone and feel of the system today."

But his other ability was what really made him for me.

GW did have an official model for the guy, which they still sell actually, but it is finecast only and looks pretty terrible.

I feel like I've been posting a lot about it the past week but I really don't know what direction to take my army now.

I've just finished applying the Retributor Gold base on my very first Liberator, also the first mini I'm painting. Fuck the paint gets dry so quickly I feel like I'm wasting tons on the palette.

So, since I don't want to go for the standard ultramarine blue Stormcast but I also don't want to stray and experiment too much this early, I was thinking about coloring the shield and tissue white and ad a few parts of the armor white. Unsure what I should use between Ceramic White and Scar White.

To shade the white I guess I should use just some Nuln Oil?

I'm also a bit bummed out because I don't have any Auric Armor Gold to make some gold armor parts shine.

Tips, comments, insults?
>>
>>55201039

And this is how I'd like my Stormcast to look like, but I'm dubious if I should paint this many armor parts white.

I'd also like to swap the blue for the tissues for some other color.

Maybe green? And hammer definitely needs to be painted in Leadbelcher.
>>
>>55201039
desu famalam, I just paint the bits that are gold gold, the bits that are red, red. etc.

I dont bother with that whole "paint fucking everything one colour then recoat from there"

seems like a waste of paint to me and looks like dogshit compared to just doing bits individually, in my opinion

Far easier on the eyes
Also post what your palette looks like
>>
>>55201039
Not much to comment on considering its a single base layer. Doesn't seem too thick.

I have trouble with paint drying fast where I am so make a wet pallette which is a god send, but as you've just started I'd just advise using a bit more water in the paint. Some people put loads of paint and loads of water in the palette but I've never had much luck with that and it seems to dry just as quick.

For colours, anything can work on stormcast. If you go white on the armour don't for the scrolls though, it'll be visually confusing. Base with ceramite white OR layer up to pallid wytch flesh, shade recesses with nuln oil and highlight with white scar. There's not too much difference between the main colours, but ceramite is more grey white and pallid more of a warmer white technically speaking.
>>
>>55201039
For white, Celestra Grey base, go over most of it with Ulthuan Grey, then use White Scar on the finest edges.

It's the premise for my army, the fyreslayers clan feeling indebted to a grove after getting so gold hungry they attacked them and gave chaos an advantage in a battle. I've posted the short background here a few times and I would again as inspiration but I get confused with how Google documents works so I don't accidentally plaster my email address over 4chan.

Modelled bits of the army together, such as revenants using dwarf weapons and the odd fyreslayer handaxe in Kurnoth quivers to match the ideas from the ironbark wargrove too (attached is the only picture I have to hand of the former).

>>

Shit like this makes me want to care more about my bases, but then I'm constructing and before I know it I've glued shit just onto a plain base anyway.
>>
>>55201039
Clean mould lines and sprue connections straight after clipping parts off the sprue.
Since you didn't know about mould lines, I'm guessing you didn't wash the sprues in warm soapy water either. That removes any mould release agent that would otherwise hinder glue and paint.
Look up what a wet palette is and how to do a homemade one.
I'd advise against painting all one colour for your first layer, such a waste of paint. Spray prime, then pick out your various parts in your different colours. Watch like any of Duncan's videos to see what I mean.

>To shade the white I guess I should use just some Nuln Oil?
No no no no, Nuln Oil is way too dark. Painting white, yellow and red can be hard when it comes to washes and highlights, look up a tutorial on how to do them.

Am I getting memed? If not, I'll try next time I assemble the Prosecutors.
Also how do I git gud at removing mouldlines? I have a Citadel® Mouldnline Remover®™ Tool but everytime I use it I just feel like I'm either scarring the mini or smoothing the mouldline without really taking away the bump.
>>
Morghast Archai or Morghast harbringers?
>>
>>55201790
>Am I getting memed?
I mean, you're on the internet, you have Google right there to double check anything brought up here. But no, it's not a meme, and especially if you buy any resin shit you'll definitely want to wash that. Just some dishwashing liquid in warm water, bit of a scrub.
>>
>>55201790
>>55201591

Oh fuck no, I see the mould lines now.
SO THAT'S WHAT THE MOULDLINES REMOVER IS FOR
I was just smoothing sprue connections remnants with it! Fuck I'm retarded, but again, the fucking GW store clerk just told me to remove the sprue connections remnants with the tool.

Holy shit I feel like a total retard. I have 8 models assembled and primes, fuck, I'll try to take away what mouldlines I can
>>
>>55201790
>>55201828
Hobby knife is really all you need, scrape with the blade at a backwards angle. Which is pretty much what you do with the remover, but a knife also can cut off your sprue connections wheres a remover is useless for that.

Some people use hobby files, I hate them because I find them so much more awkward to control and get in finnicky areas.

General rule, don't buy GW's hobby stuff. Tools, glues, hell even paint; try to find a more generic hobby store as you'll get the same quality or better product for cheaper.

Reporting, this is my 1000 pt Skryre list:

Allegiance: Skaven Skryre
Arch Warlock (140)
- General
- Trait: Masterful Scavenger
- Artefact: Esoteric Warp Resonator
Packmaster (80)
- Shock-Prod
10 x Skryre Acolytes (120)
3 x Stormfiends (300)
2 x Rat Ogors (120)
1 x Poisoned Wind Mortar Weapon Team (60)
Warp Lightning Cannon (180)

Total: 1000/1000

Getting the 10 Acolytes is gonna be hard though. I'm converting them and getting all the Doomwheel Driver heads is proving impossible. Looking into green stuff moulding now.
