How do I flavor an army with primarily jumppack units with little bikes? Or do I just play bikes anyway because I actually like the Chapter and just play with a suboptimal list?

Should I go admech or 1k sons? I like admech's whole theme and everything but a monopose techpriest being the only HQ option (besides cawl) is kind of a bummer for me.

I never knew how much I wanted imperial guardsmen on dirt bikes until I saw this, i can just imagine outrider squad of guardsmen with maybe a a light 4 wheeler (possibly something like the taros venator) instead of a attack bike. Holy fuck I want that.

On a very unrelated note i have finished reading the gathering storm and want to know what to read next so i can keep up to date with the lore that established the Primaris

I dont know, but I'd reckon no.
The homeworld of the astral knights was given over to the sable swords (i think?) after their "demise", also, one of the worlds they saved from the world engine was dedicated as a shrine to them.
The last astral knights (less than a company) gathered up the remaining couple recruits and dreads from their homeworld and left to crusade (likely until their death).

Honestly depends on your playstyle

Alpha Legion is solid

World Eaters are as well, but hyperfocused to melee

Iron Fists... I mean Imperial Warriors is okay.

Black Legion & Word Bearers are pretty subpar imo

Emperor's Children is silly.

>How are Templars this ed? Kind of want to try them, maybe get big crusader squads and vanguards to get stuck in with.
Black Templars are currently quite good. Solid characters (the Champion is nuts and you'll want Chaplain Grimaldus for a Black Tide list), reroll charge rolls is powerful, and while they can't take filthy psykers, they can Deny the Witch on a 4+ for a CP.
>>
>>55124621
You could play a Scars successor.
>>
>>55125113
See >>55125128

But overall I enjoy Alpha Legion's tactic the most. As I feel it's the most well rounded (besides Iron Warriors (and Word Bearers)) that isn't pigeonholed into a role/army theme
>>
>>55125057
It's handy if you want to make a summoning focused army. But if you aren't heavily leaning on that you'd be better off with something else. Even just the Renegades tactic.
>>
What's the biggest surprise you pulled on your opponents? Like they expected you to play one way and you ended up doing something that left them confused on how to fight you.

My opponent heard Guard and figured I'd sit still. They were not ready for Valkyrie Bullgryn, Assassins, Scions, Inqusitors in Terminator armor and Straken with infantry squads bum rushing. So many turn 1 charges and move move move on everyone putting them in the enemy's face.

>>
>>55125423
Who's your faction/who do you think is the most interesting?

Dark imperium is one of the newest books and it describes the new/modern setting, plus it's a pretty ok read
>>
>>55125372
>remove two razorbacks per turn
5 shots per turn
Hitting on 3+/Wounding on 3+/No Save at D2

Need 5 USW to kill a Razorback.
~ 11-12 Hellblasters to wreck a Razorback
At 33ppm its ~300+ pts to kill a Razorback (100pts w/ TL Assault Cannon)

>Granted you could have used Lts and Captains for rerolls, but I doubt you were wrecking 2 RB a turn... unless your army was nothing BUT Hellblasters
>>
>>55125470
Chaos Daemons are my favorite, Nurgle specifically. I always thought there was an overarching storyline going on but is it primarily just read what you want about your faction?
>>
>>55125423
I highly recommend starting with Eisenhorn. It's very light on grimdark (comparatively, at least) and is an excellent set of books. The followups, the Ravenor series, is a bit more of a toss-up, but I liked them.

There's also the Gaunt's Ghosts series, if you want some guardsmen goodness, and in that same category are the Ciaphas Cain novels (with a lot more humor added in).

I wanted to make a warband that used all of the gods' troops, or at least had a little bit of everything, but Black Legion tactics felt uninspiring and the "Renegades" legion, while great for insuring charges sans warptime, denies you access to veterans of the long war. So, of the unmarked legions, that leaves Iron Warrior, Word Bearers, Alpha Legion and Night Lords, of which Alpha Legion seems the standout.

Im sad too. There's no reason other than price. Sure you can get 5 Ogryn for cheaper than 4 Bullgryn but they still won't be worth it. They need a better gun to be worth it, but if you make their gun better then they are too cheap. Their problem is they have no AP for shooting or close combat and their guns have short range. Even if you made the guns 24 inches they still have no AP and still have 5+ saves. The guns have to be at least 18 inches at -1AP to be worth it to me and they won't get changed.

I really like the rules of 8th, but something about 40k has been bothering me lately. Maybe it's always been this way but it seems to escalate as GW releases all these new models (primarchs and demon princes) ...

Anyone else despise that 40k has become all about the same dozen or so Mary Sue characters fighting each other? Remember when people used to take unnamed characters and applied a little creativity?

I swear players weren't always crutching this hard on using their factions biggest and baddest Mary Sue in every single match.

it's the legendary shit in general that bothers me. the appeal of the 40k universe, to me at least, has always been how big it is and how much awful stuff is going on.

I get that some people don't give a shit about imagining any sort of narrative behind it and are happy to have custodes fighting custodes or two rowboat girlymans fighting each other, but like... I don't care about Commissar Yarrick's 548,654,323th skirmish of his career, or the 803,434th time he's been hit by a las cannon and vaporized.

I don't know, I guess it's not the sort of shit that your average player gives a fuck about, it just bothers me for some reason.

Well, we have electro-priests. Primarchs best keep their distance or they'll get morris-danced to death by a bunch of /fit/ Spess Catholics. I wonder if Mortarion will still die in one charge from them? I suspect not, but they'll probably still take a chunk out.

Personally I'm ordering half the parts for my kitbashed Archmagos countsas Cawl tomorrow, although the actual body will have to wait until I have enough spare moneys to get the FW Archmagos and probably some other stuff from Miranda Irene. Fuck paying £60 for some kitbash fodder. I guess I can degobbo and cybernetic up the spider abeyant in the meantime. Hopefully people will be chill with him, I'm just sick of every game being Guilliman vs. Magnus feat. Voldus as it tends to be at my store, and I think Cawl is a little overdone with his million differently-designed tentacles.

Anyone know a good way to let a model like that switch between a 60mm circle base (for heresy) and a 105/70 oval (Cawl)? Not really any good points to magnetize given he's a mechanical drider thing.

Cut out a circle from the big base and have the scenery lock together?

No. They aren't amazing. But they can perform very well. And with a power sword they're surprisingly competent in melee. All three guns have their uses depending on their role and your CTs, but generally normal Bolt Rifles are the most useful and Stalker Bolt Rifles the least. The issue with Stalker Intercessors is Sniper Scouts kinda to the same job but better. 5 Intercessors with Bolt Rifles, an Auxiliary Grenade Launcher and a Power Sword are a very competent troops choice.

Those were the older Skitarii, too. Huge tribal monstrosities with massively resilient augments and implanted weapons, the higher ranks matches for Space Marines.
You see a bunch in Titanicus, where one takes over a hundred lasgun shots, bolter rounds and grenades before going down.

I suspect the reason they're not in the game is that they'd be way cooler than pretty much everything else there.

This battle was fought long ago at the start of 3rd Ed. When special characters were all still designated "opponents permission only". Special Characters won and have been all over place since. If you bring nothing but flyers you lose turn 1, and if you spam flyers your opponent only needs to remove your non-flyers to table you.
>>
>>55127662

I really hated painting them...but the thing is, if you give them carbines it costs the same as gauss. Plus they can't get 'locked in combat', meaning they can fall back (up to 14" I believe) while still shooting. Plus they have RP and 2 wounds. If you have enough models to make a unit of 9, it's going to be pretty hard to kill it off. It's not the most powerful unit, but Crons don't shoot or melee well I'm finding out, and at least tomb blades can fly around the battlefield being dicks and scoring points. I only have 3 of them but to make a competitve list I feel like 2 units of 9 each would be pretty tough to contend with.

If you add the shieldvanes and shadowlooms it might not be worth the cost, but otherwise I think it should be a pretty good way to go. try it and let me know =)

The competitive flyers just tend to be really durable due to the "hard to hit" rule and with 360° firing arcs the downside of constantly having to move in minimal. That said, the fact that flyers can no longer capture objective nor count for sudden death means actual flyer spam is pretty much dead. They're still a good supplement to a normal army though.

Further dealing with flyers isn't nearly the chore it could be in 5th-7th since shooting a flyer is generally just -1 to hit rather than only hit on 6+.
>>
>>55127783

Also, the Skitarii broke before the Guard did : ^ )
>>
>>55127880
It kind of makes sense though, aerial superiority is kind of important in battle.
I don't play very competitively though is it that bad?
There's 1 storm raven and 2 storm talons at my lgs total. Along with 2 heldrakes and 2 of those necron croissant flyers.
Unless you count winged HQ's that's kind of it.
>>
>>55127590

>>
Tell me, since I have an excess of both, how do I make my Chimera and Ogryn good? I feel like Taurox and Bullgryn have completely overshadowed both.
>>
>>55127851
I'll check them out

How do they compare to Destroyers though?
>>
>>55127979
Ogryn, i dont know. I want to experiment using them to hold a mission objective near center, where their relative cheap price and gun can make a harder to dislodge unit then guardsmen. (Especially now that you need ALL the unit in cover) but i dont have any.

Chimera is still good, because you can but a commander a special weapon squad and a command squad in one, so you have two squads that can be given orders. (Remember you cannot spam commmand squads that easy anymore). This does not fit in a taurox. Also i have had good successes with a Heavy Flamers now they hit on 5+ when moving. Would not put 2 on a chimera to increase its utility.
>>
>>55127937
They're Skitarii, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if they died standing long before they broke given they've been known to swarm Chaos Titans like ants. They'd make a pretty decent fist of tearing through Orks since they're basically an army of 3+ Sv. WS4 Custodes with fancier guns if you use the Myrmidon rules for them. I imagine a hell of a lot of their gear is going to be those guns the more elite orks are toting around.
>>
>>55127807
That list is half dead already.

New meta is the army of assassins lists. Completely shuts down smite spam and spells that target enemy players (weakens the rest), nigh-unkillable to anything less than hordes, and controls the shooting phase via massed characters.
>>
>>55128047
Yeah but Ripper guns are kind of rubbish. How do they discourage dislodgement compared to a 2+ save and a maul?
>>
>>55128067

My main tactic for YD when I don't want the canon character but like their stats in my army is a lovely little rule called "counts as" I take the stats of the hero, and apply them to my own character, be they generic or named.

All you need is some good proxies or conversions after that to make it feel like your own

For a fully mechanized, never-touch-the-ground, violently hypermobile Dark Eldar list, what's the best way to shred hordes? Wounding conscripts on 4+ with guns feels awkward to me so I'm not sure what that best way is to violently tear into guard and gaunts and boyz without compromising my desired hit and run raiding party aesthetic.

Raider full of splinter rifles? Shardcarbine Scourge? Venoms? Reavers? Maybe something melee I can cram into Raiders - I haven't looked much into non-Kabal troops yet

Hellions?

>>
>>55128610

Honestly, Deldar are shit at hordes. The only way to handle them is okay keep away and hope you whittle them down enough. Hellions aren't really ideal against them because their D2 is wasted, though the exception is Poxwalkers, but they do have 2 attacks (3 with drugs) at S4, which isn't bad. Wyches are actually capable of holding them in melee, and Brides have the capability to take out large chunks in melee. Just watch for pistols because fuck dodge :^)
>>
>>55128672
True, they're kinda janky looking. Maybe convert/3rdparty your own biker noses onto the models and just use em as reavers?

Bladevanes seem decent for eating GEQs, what about crashing shittons of drugged up reavers into hordes? They get their splinter shots as they approach and then an adequate number of attacks in melee. Now that I do the math, Shardcarbines are surprisingly shit.

Hordes are low concern because of my local meta, but I like to have balanced lists and the local thousand sons player has something like 60 horrors he's looking for a use for

I also can't seem to find a good place for Archons

Using Bullgryns, can I just mix Slabshields and Brute Shields, and then choose which save I want to use depending on the weapon that is being fired at me?
>>
>>55128862
>Bladevanes seem decent for eating GEQs
Yes S4 Ap-1 is good against GEQ. However
>what about crashing shittons of drugged up reavers into hordes?
They're 30ppm before upgrades, and you want to crash them into a group of 20-50 dudes? With extra attack drugs, one dude will kill one GEQ. I wouldn't do that.

>Now that I do the math, Shardcarbines are surprisingly shit.
The math on all splinter weapons are shit.

>Hordes are low concern because of my local meta, but I like to have balanced lists and the local thousand sons player has something like 60 horrors he's looking for a use for
Ignore horrors. That's your best option, really.

>I also can't seem to find a good place for Archons
I stick mine with Wyches or Brides or I stick him with a 5 man kabalite or trueborn squad in a raider.
>>

Is anyone able to tell me why I would choose a Tau XV86 Coldstar Battlesuit between a regular Tau Commander?

I see that the movement is different and the High output burst cannon gets twice the attacks of a normal one, but he cannot take any of the other weapons that would be probably better than a burst cannon that you already have a ton of.
>>
>>55129061
>Are Archons the best choice for what I'm going for, or should I stick a Succubus in a raider with some melee troops and drive them at the enemy?
Deldar HQs are in a weird spot because they decided to give the Archon a Ld buff to the fearless army, and the succubus only rerolls 1s in the fight phase.

>I prefer shooty, but 79 points for an HQ tax and 1 Blaster feels silly unless I plan on dedicating that Archon to melee as well
Blaster Archon is the general goto for Deldar because it's the most useful in a vacuum. Personally, I run more of a wych cult, so I actually get use out of my Succubus. All my vehicles are Cult vehicles, so they get to reroll 1s in the fight phase, which is nice. Fun story, my Voidraven was assaulted by some assmarines and killed one because of my Succ reroll, which we both thought was hilarious. Anyway, I run a blast pistol Archon because I just run him into things with my Succcubus since I'm in short supply of blasters. They do well enough.

>Sorry if these are pretty basic questions, but learning from asking always felt like the best way to learn to me

Relictors, a chapter that got a bit too buddy buddy with a radical inquisitor and jumped into the deep end of the idea of using daemon weapons to fight chaos.

They had a decent string of fluff appearances back in the 3rd ed days during the third war for Armageddon and eye of terror campaign about then ignoring imperial objectives to stockpile more chaos toys, culminating in them raiding an inquisition base and getting the grey knights dropped on their heads. There were supposed to be a hundred or so left, good fodder for Your Dudes adventures

I have a question about Space Marine warlord traits.

Can I use the ones set off to the side (not the six you can choose/roll) for specific Chapters, can I use them for their successors?

Say I have <Warhawks> who are successors of the Ultramarines, and they use Ultramarine Traits and Stratagems. Can I give their Warlord the trait that refunds Command Points on a roll of 5/6? Or must I be playing the authentic cobalt blue, inverted-omega, Codex Astartes, SPIRITUAL LIEGE Ultramarines to get that? Or is it only for their named characters to have?

So, say a Character has a Power Sword (4 points) standard and you replace it with a Nemesis Daemonhammer (25 points), you only pay for the 25 point Nemesis Daemonhammer and not the Power Sword you replaced.

Corax had shame because it was a failure in his eyes, and caused a whole lot of promising recruits to suffer horribly and die, although it was actually Alpha Legion's fault for fucking with the formula.

Actually, his tampering was a success, and founded the Raptors Chapter of Space Marines with a successful accelerated-growth regimen for making Space Marines, reducing full maturation time to about 60 days.

Solar Auxilia from 30k fit the bill, although they take a number of hours to fortify their positions. Seven hours gets a Solar Auxilia Regiment a pretty dug-in position. They mostly use it for establishing a beachhead for the subsequent invasion to follow.

Elysian Drop Troops also fit the bill, sans the fortification part since they're all about being a speedy, maneuverable force that can rapidly deploy.

I will say that the whole thing has fucked up the 40k timeline, with just a whole lot of plot points that were built up beforehand being put unceremoniously into the dumpster so that the narrative can continue.

>Suddenly Primaris
>Blood Angels fighting huge Tyranid fleet; subverted by Indomitus Crusade and the Daemon they have beef with
>Worldkiller Daemon Engine that Abaddon has just blowing up at Cadia

Just a whole lot of buildup getting deflated in fluff blurbs. It's likely that these might get expanded out later to be more satisfying than they turned out to be. Like, we've had a hundred different doomsday scenarios getting set to blow two-minutes-to-midnight, and they've all just been forgotten about or turned out to be duds as 999.M41 hits.

I've got my first game of 40k since I quit in 5th edition later in the week and i've cobbled together a 1k list, any thoughts?

Iron hands chapter tactics
Vanguard- 4CP

P. Captain- Auto Bolt Rifle, Power Sword (95)
P. Ancient- Standard of the emperor ascendant (69)
P. Apothecary- (68)
3 Aggressors- Flamestorm Gauntlets (129)
5 Intercessors- (100)
5 Hellblasters- (165)
Leviathan- Grav Flux Bombard, Siege Drill (341)

967

my thoughts are it's a really tiny and slow list and i'm just going to get shot off the table or fail at objectives.
I could drop the leviathan and maybe include some more aggressors and a pair of lieutenants just to get some more numbers.

FW might have OP units, but so does regular 40k. Dick moves just abound when you bring a beatstick meant for higher point games to a low point game.

Starting 8th, don't understand how this works?

I take a Guard unit with 8 las guns and 1 heavy weapon team las cannon.

I shoot at my buddies Ogryns. he has a 4+ invulnerable save dude in there and some other guys.

I wound 3 times and my las cannon wounds.

Does he get to pick how he makes saves? Because if he fails all 3 las guns and the las cannon, it totally depends on how he decides to roll.

For example;

He rolls the 3 las guns first, fails 2. He then rolls a las cannon save on the same guy because he's already wounded, fails the save and suffers 5 damage most of which is wasted. one guy dies.

If he rolls the las cannon first, fails, then that guy dies from damage. Then he can make the las gun saves.

So who gets to pick?

Why would the FAQ anything? First, take everything you know about dedicated transports from last edition and flush it down the toilet. Dedicated Transports are now just a combat role, like Troop or Flier, and like other roles, the number you can take depends on your detachments. For example, you don't actually get any dedicated transports for taking a supreme command, but you get one DT for every non-DT in a battalion. You don't buy them for units anymore, either; you just buy them. When you deploy the DT, you then decide if you also want to deploy anything inside.

If you have a rhino, three 5man tac squads, and a captain, you can choose whatever you want to go into that rhino. Maybe this game you just want the captain, or maybe one of the squads, may r the other two squads, maybe one squad and a captain, ect.

Technically, you resolve your shots one at a time. Rolling them all at one is just short cutting. In this case, you should shoot one group at a time (still declare all your shots first), and resolve the whole thing before moving on.
Here's why:
>shoot Lascanon
>wound
>he throws it onto the ogryn
>fails save
>you roll damage
>still alive
Now he has a wounded model, and he must allocate wounds to that wounded model first.

> Not rolling your own custom chapter so you can pick which colorscheme to use as well as what set of chapter tactics fits your chapter the best
> Not coming up with your own extensive lore and reasons behind your unit selection

The only downside to a custom chapter is that you'll never get named characters or extensive iconography on your models, but 99% of the former are either not worth the points cost or grossly overpowered and the latter can be fixed with some greenstuff and a little bit of creativity.

Honestly Space Marine gave me the same exact vibe I used to get whenever I found a fucking awesome PS2 budget game that ended up being a total blast. I had a ton of fun playing through it and I still hope that someday we get another entry.

I like using the really obscure chapters that only have minor appearances in the fluff, let's you still do plenty of lore building while also having a chance to show up in official materials in small ways.

Troops would be nice

Sorc, cannon, 4 bolters

This is your basic 5man squad.

From there you can build 5 flamers for expensive, but thorough destruction.

Or convert 1 into another sorc and 4 more bolters

Troops? Like Scout Marines? And by transports, those are things like Land Raiders and Rhinos, right? I have plenty of paints due to playing Battletech and D&D and painting minis as a hobby.

You've got a pretty decent start going. I don't know a ton about Blood Angels compared to Space Marines in general, but odds are you're going to want some standard Tactical Marines and some vehicles (Rhinos and Razorbacks).

The Blood Angels Start Collecting box will get you a tac squad plus a Bhall Predator, that's the first thing I would pick up if I were you.

Then, watch some of Duncan's painting videos and get those dudes painted.

Where do I find the stuff for the Blood Angels? I think the codex I got isn't updated to the current version of the game. The profiles look different from what I say people using.

Well, my problem is this.

I originally wanted to do the 1st and 2nd Companies of Ultramarines along with some of the 8th and 10th.(Minus Vehicles, I do have that many fucking Marines.) When I saw the 2nd Company in the Codex, I wanted to model it one-for-one as presented there. (Because fuck Sicarius.)

No one here played Ultramarines at all at the time.

During Konor - 3 new UM players have shown up. None with a well painted army. So I was like "I'll show them up and do it better."

Yet, I don't really want to be a 4th Ultrafag. The Ultramarines were cool because of the Spacemarine game and no one here played them. No one. So it would be "my guys."

I don't feel inspired to do that as much knowing there are 3 others, even if I have more marines than all three of them combined.
>>
>>55131078
Download the core rulebook and index I (or the SM codex).

You can paint red Ultramarines as a successor chapter, but they wouldn't technically be Blood Legions. They're two different armies. You can check both their rules and decide which works better for you, or go with whatever you think looks best.

Ideally you want your guys painted up as whichever chapter they are (Ultramarines are blue, Blood Angels are Red, Salamanders are Green, etc), but it's not a huge deal. As long as your entire army is painted with the same scheme I don't think too many people outside of the tournament crowd are going to care.

More or less, though your opponents will be appreciative if you keep your army consistent in theme/color.

For example, if you decide to use Blood Angel kits to build red Ultramarine successors you should probably at least have some kind of fluff explanation in your head.

He's a sleepy dread that got stranded on the planet after battling something like DEldar raiders or some such. Can't wake up on his own, but the savages worship him and paint him?

That's sick as fuck.

Weathered Imperial Eagle at the top of the body and as it gets lower to the ground it gets dirtier and with more crude drawings. Maybe have the area immediately surrounding his feet have little statues or something?

Absolutely, if that's the chapter you think is cool. Any Ultramarine successor will be able to use Ultra rules (unless they have their own specific rules in the codex).

>>55131276
Oh. I think I see what happened. I didn't word things correctly.

Can I field Blood Angels and then another chapter together on the field at the same time or is that against the rules? I know Allies use to be a thing from watching games, not sure now though.

>>55131293
So I don't have to paint Ultras as Ultras, can make my own chapter or go with a successor? Does this mean the marines in Dark Imperium don't have to be Ultras? They can be Black Templars or Raven Guard or whatever?
>>
>>55131268

The solitary Dread in the middle of a field would look pretty cool if the person looking at the diorama knew the story behind it. It would basically be showing the total isolation of the dreadnought pilot since his chapter was long gone.

The village being relocated around the "statue" would make a lot of sense too though, and it would give you an excuse to have some tribal minis standing around that you could customize. Maybe their clothing or shields could have a crude approximation of the Dread's chapter logo that they had decided to use as their own, or something along those lines.
>>
>>55131099

Thanks for the ideas anons.
>>
>>55131317
Yes. I can't go into blow-by-blow details due to no time left, but I'll TLDR it for you.

You can mix anything you want. You could have a Recon Detachment of Blood Angels using all your Blood Angel models. Then a Brigade of Ultramarine Successors of What-Ever-Chapter-You-Like as an entirely separate force. Field both at the same time.

Only a few things fuck with you, IE: some rules/orders/etc specifically for Ultramarines can't be given to the Blood Angels, etc. But you can field them as one 'force' on the table, yes.
>>
>>55131317

You can have allies, but you have to be careful with how you set your army up or else you won't get benefits from Chapter Tactics (read the rulebook for more info).

Also, the Space Marines from the Dark Imperium box set are Primaris Marines (basically Space Marines on steroids). They aren't required to be Ultramarines, GW just uses Ultramarines as their default whenever they show boxart or painted models. They can be from any chapter as long as that chapter isn't one of the ones that cannot have Primaris Marines (like Gray Knights, Black Templars, and I think one or two more).
>>
>>55131317
>Can I field Blood Angels and then another chapter together on the field at the same time or is that against the rules? I know Allies use to be a thing from watching games, not sure now though.
Yes, you just take two "detachments". Basically you'll have to satisfy the model requirements for both armies rather than one.

>So I don't have to paint Ultras as Ultras, can make my own chapter or go with a successor? Does this mean the marines in Dark Imperium don't have to be Ultras? They can be Black Templars or Raven Guard or whatever?
Yes.

For example, I play and paint Legion of the Damned but I run them using Deathwatch rules.
>>
>>55131340
Oh, you could also add gravesites or something. Like the villagers interred their greatest people alongside their savior.
>>
>>55131351
BT can take primaris though, only thing they can't take is librarians
>>
>>55131322
Yeah that's what I'm hoping too. I don't have time for another 6 months to paint or play, so if they are gone by then, I'll continue with that project.

I'm not just trying to pick a "cool army to paint" when I picked Ultramarines. I wanted to represent them accurately. Like WW2 modeller levels of accurate. I used to do WW2 modelling and I tried to get into 40k long ago. I ran out of time to play and wanted to get back into it... the idea of having a "historic" force of Ultramarines made me giggle with glee. Name each squad. Have everything organized.

I really want a Thunderhawk. Just because.

I'm not going to risk prison or flesh eating bacteria over plastic models. Just a thought that's all.
>>
So, what is the consensus on tactical terminators versus assault centurions, in the context of a squad to ride in a land raider crusader with a msu of vanguard vets or sternguard. On paper they seem very similar, tac terminators will be more resilient to lascannons and such, but assault terminators can dump a whole assload of shots into something before they charge. As far as meele goes I think their damage output would be very close, since centurions get fewer attacks but hit and wound more easily.

Are there factors I'm not considering? Again, my purpose is to have a strong counter engage unit in my land raider, which will be the anchor to my firing line.
