Hey guys, I need the thrall warhost regiment for Darkelves
>>
What is the recommended unit size for skellies, zombies, ghouls and graveguard?
>>
>>55111608
As a rule of thumb, if a warscroll says a unit benefits from having a certain amount of dudes, take that amount. For example, Skellies get more attacks at 20 and 30, so take 30 a unit.
>>
So, adding in a bastilladon and wizard to SCE 2k? Good or nah? Mostly using vanguard things. Got some protectors and libs for objective holding and certain forces. Would also love to make use of my carnosaur that I kept, but I hear they're not particularly worth it. :'(
>>
So what is the general consensus on GH2017?
>>
>>55111658
A good start. Many armies got the allegiance abilities they needed and the points for large units now make for interesting choices. Battalion point increases were probably too high, but some did need increasing. Hopefully they'll come back down. The scenarios now also have a bit more variety, one being able to be stolen with heroes and monsters for example.

Ignoring the ass blasted compendium fags, you will find very few complaints about it.
>>
>>55111658
I like the allegiance abilities a lot (generally). Haven't read the rest past a brief skim here and there though.

For me it's fine. Some hordes get buffed by allegiance abilities like skryre and pestilens and some get nerfed like verminus and mixed-skaven at all.
I don't find the battalions cost increase necessary - some changes are just retarded.
Allies system is a good feature but lack of some allies options like deathmages for nighthaunt is hard to fathom.
Also I like most of the new allegiance abilities - it's nice to see some love for such factions like Wanderers, Dispossessed etc. Now I'm just waiting for new boxed sets.

Overall 7/10 - I will play still but not gonna spend my money on anything bigger than 1000pts until next release wave

Losing the Verminus Clawpack was a bit of a bust, I'm hoping for some sort of errata to bring it back. That said, not getting anything for Verminus also makes me optimistic for a book soon (2018 at the earliest, rest of the year is 40k most likely). The battalion costs were in some ways too heavy handed but absolutely needed. It's a shame that the Changehost is still so cheap for example, because some armies get a huge advantage with only having to make ~3 deployment drops.

Sent to an illicit auction in a city of Order, a servant of the Soulblight Queen Neferata finds his simple mission may be more complicated – and deadly – than he imagined. It ties into the novel 'Eight Lamentations: Spear of Shadows', and features hints about everyone's favourite queen of the dead, Neferata. Palem Bok is a humble collector of the arcane, a trader of sorts but a resourceful one. He has to be, for Bok is also a spy for the Queen of Mysteries, Neferata herself! Sent to an illicit auction in Greywater Fastness, his mission is the retrieval of an esoteric item for his vampiric mistress. But Bok soon finds that this seemingly simple task is far more dangerous than he bargained for when the heroic Stormcast Eternals show up to ruin his plans.

Out of curiosity, is there an army that has very few models(in this instance, let's say like less than 10) that is viable? Still new to sigmar, so I haven't really seen many different factions in action.
>>
>>55112909
Forgot to mention at either 1k or 2k points
>>
>>55112909
Anything is viable so long as you're not playing in a tournament scene. But at the moment Deathrattle seem alright, to give an example of a faction with very few models. Honestly, the allegiance rules help with that, since no faction truly has only 10 models to choose from unless you're really anal about sticking to an allegiance even in spite of the new rules.

Theoretical Spiderfang player here. Is it just me, or does it seem like a hilariously worthwhile investment to toss a unit or two of Sylvaneth Wyldwoods into a Spiderfang list -- particularly or perhaps only when you know you are a low chance of playing against Sylvaneth? The ability to control the lay-out of the board seems pretty solid, and the fact that my entire army gets to ignore them just seems hilarious.

Spiders rushing in and out of the trees while also being able to ignore the nasty consequence of the Wyldwood rule thanks to their Wall-Crawler, and the fact that the only spellcaster in my list will be the Arachnarok. It just seems like an absolutely fantastic little addition, while also remaining pretty deliciously flavorful.

4 out the 6 new scenarios hinge on having more models close to objectives than your opponent.

This has lead to the "Horde Meta" meme taking hold. Lower model armies are still viable but they will need to be mindful of where to leverage their superior units/damage.

Making a Moonclan 1k point ay and reading through the army compopsition I wanted to clarify about allies.

Since there is a 200 point limit on allies, having both 3 troggoths and a rock lobbe is illegal correct?

If so, what would be a good replacement for the rock lobber? More squigs, grots or another hero?
>>
>>55113137
There is no way to take scenery in your army.

The reason they have point costs (even if that cost is 0 most of the time) is because the Sylvaneth have abilities that let them create Wyldwoods, which is different to having them as part of your list from the start.

It is the same story with the Balewind Vortex, although any mage can summon one of those.

>OP wants army with less than 10 models
>He suggests a skeleton hoard

I guess if he was playing an 80 point game it could work.

Although >>55112909, if you do paint a lot of models, you could always play the Skirmish rule set. You only need a minimum of 3 models, and it wouldn't be difficult to end up with less than 10 models with literally any army and have it do okay.
>>
>>55113180

I also plan on buying silver tower but for the tabletop part,, hopefully the 2 charriots of the two packs I"ll buy come with 6 blue horrors, plus the 4 of the game I have a whole unit. Shame about the 8 acolytes.

Interesting. I'll look into it!

But yeah, I was mainly just curious if there was a build of something using only a handful of dudes that could hold their own against something quite a bit bigger. I used to play a lot of MTG before I jumped ship here, so it's taking some getting used to that there's a lot of viable options, as opposed to "play these guys this way or it's bad".

FAQ says that Free People and Free Peoples are the same thing

Also the app hasn't been updated to reflect that Bretonnians lost the Free People keyword
>>
So has GW made any effort to change the Lords of the Lodge battalion for Fyreslayers? Like, with the new rule of one the main bonus of the battalion is straight up gone AND they make you take it if you want to use the new battalions in the GHB17.

Honestly, if they fixed this one thing I would think Fyreslayers might even be high tier with their buffs. The new battalions and allegiances look super good.

So I am starting a seraphon army. I have been collecting units slowly but haven't been able to play due to lack of time. Anyway, I have:
3 boxes of skinks
1 bastilladon
1 stegadon
6 ripperdactyles.

I am going to add a slann but I was wondering about the new slann teleport ability lords of space and time. Can I teleport my stegadon 9" away from the enemy and then use my stegadon's alpha skink ability to target the stegadon iteself?(it is a skink) allowing me to move D6" closer to the enemy to get a reliable t1 charge?
>>
After I sell my army off (no longer a legal list after ghb 2017 due to legacy units being squatted) what new army should I collect?

I like skellies, but they have very little variety, and no ranged units outside of legacy units. I don't trust GW with legacy units and don't want to build around them any more.

Not overpowered allegiance abilities so the old armies are still on one level.
But that doesn't change the fact, that a few new armies are still over the top.

I really like the point increases for battalions.
>>
>>55116653
There's a lot of options. But the most important factor is the hobby. Choose an army that draws you in the most hobby wise. What would seem like the most fun to paint and collect? Worry about that first, the competitive side of your army will come later
>>
>>55116621
>>55116647
Not sure why they would remove the warscrolls though. I could understand if they wanted to make them more generic characters, but their abilities were pretty unique as far as Chaos went.

My entire list was built around getting a huge blob of battleshock ignoring marauders and wulfrik into the enemy's face as quickly as possible through wulfrik's ability, to create space for the rest of my list to move up the table.

Now it is just a slow melee list.

Chaos Lord (early aos legacy with no pitched battle profile) was way more interesting a warscroll than the current Lord of Chaos. He had the command ability to summon reinforcements from table edges.

First time painter, how do I get a marble color?

Trying to paint Stormcast Eternals, I was thinking to exercise with something just slightly different from the standard since it's my first time. Armor Retributor Gold with white areas on the insignias (shoulders, shield). But well I want to make it... Cream, marble color, not exactly white.

What I do is I basecoat the model (in this case, baneblade brown), and then washed it with Agrax Earthshade.

After that, I very lightly drubrushed with Baneblade Brown again so I can see where the paint lands, and then I just layer over it with Baneblade Brown as normal, leaving the recesses, and I will do a proper highlight later on parts that are raised enough to justify it.

Hey all, I'm an old WHFB player who quit during the tail end of 8th and looking to try out AoS. I've got me a moderate sized Dark Elf army. How does army composition work in this game? Is it still the classic hammer/anvil/flankers/flank guards as the older editions?

Would a list of my old units still be good? Would it all fit into one list?

Cold One Lord/Malus depending on how I feel

Sorceress

Large Spearmen brick

MSU of Darkshards

MSU of Dark Riders

Bolt Throwers

Cold One Knights and Chariots on the flanks

Tower Guard/Executioners depending on how I feel

War Hydra
>>
>>55119411

>Chapterhouse suit

elaborate please
>>
>>55119444

Battle-lines are even more important in AoS because you cannot hide heroes in Units.

Heroes are important support units that can be threatened by flanking units like Great Eagles even worse now, Chaff is great to intercept that and Melee Units are vital to hold down targets to shoot.

It's just a bit more physical instead of metaphorical.
>>
>>55119444
Naggaroth's boys got splint into autistically small subfactions, for some reason. The Darkshards, Dreadspears, Sorceress, and Executioners are Darkling Covens. Anything with Cold Ones is Order Serpentis.

There's a legacy list for the old dark elves in the compendium, but it's not as powerful as the new stuff. For example, Darkling Covens have a very powerful battalion where Darkshards, Bleakswords, and Dreadspears can all count one another as being part of their unit for the purposes of extra attacks and such, assuming they fight in formation.
>>
>>55119509
Chapterhouse were making things like Spore pod models and other models GW didn't make rules for.

GW sued eventually, but Chapterhouse won the case because American Copyright law means you cannot copyright MODELS just because you own their FICTIONAL copyright especially with generic fair-use names.

So GW took it extremely hard, as it effectively means GW can NEVER create ANYTHING without also having a model for it to lose the copyrights. Hence why we have these Copyrightable names.
>>
>>55119546
Thanks American legal system
>>
>>55119509
Basically, the third party miniature market used to be pretty significant, and GW got tired of it. They sent a bunch of Cease and Desist letters. One of the larger 3rd parties sellers, Chapterhouse Studios, took them on in court, arguing that their IP was mostly free domain stuff.

GW eventually won, because Chapterhouse was pretty flagrant in use GW imagery, but suddenly GW got insecure about its IP. That why we started seeing Wolfenclaw wolfhammers in 40k, and now all these stupid, IP friendly names in AoS.

To be honest, if I had to change one bloody thing about all of AoS, it'd be just stupid names. Just call an Elf an Elf, and an Ork and Ork.
>>
>>55119512
You can still sit heroes in the middle of units, since there is no rule about how close your models can be to each other.

For characters weak in combat, but have strong buffing abilities, like Wizards, it is worth putting them in the middle of a unit you know isn't going to be killed easily.

If the unit is large enough, it can block Line of Sight to the hero as well, so they can't be shot.

For example - If you hide a necromancer in the middle of 40 skeletons, he can't be attacked in melee until they kill enough skeletons to get into weapon range, and there is a chance you wont be able to shoot him either, since there will be to many skeletons in the way to see him.

In his case, I would hide that sorceress in the middle of the spearmen.
>>
>>55119569
Yeah, Models and Fictional writing is a very vague area though.

It effectively means Knock-off sculpters can "Steal" ideas from larger companies without any defense.
>>
>>55119516
Am I able to take multiple allying subfactions like in 40k or is that not a possibility? I wouldn't mind breaking my army into two subfactions.

Also, why are there so many subfactions in one army? and What book is all of their stuff located in?
>>
>>55119589
Models need to have 2" range with each other to remain consistant, and different units must remain 2" away from each other.

This means you need to make a LITERAL donut that can be abused easily because any model that cannot have the 2" consistency is removed.

It's why the Donut isn't a very effective strat for anyone but Dwarves really, because your units will get broken up extremely quickly due to lack of solid "ranks"
>>
>>55119599
You can play one of two ways:

You can use a generic Grand Alliance allegiance (Order in this case), and use any amount of sub-factions from Order that you want.

Or, you can use an Allegiance for your sub-faction, and take 20% of your armies points from an allowed subfaction as allies, but only one. So, a 2000 point army can be 1600 points Darkling Covens, and 400 points Scourge Privateers for example.
This means you can keep the Darkling Covens allegiance, and get access to their abilities and artefacts.
>>
>>55119599
There are 4 main factions. All the elves are under Order. You can play an Order army that uses whatever units from that alliance you want, but the subfactions, called allegiances, sometimes provide bonuses for maintaining subfaction purity, with an allowance of 20% the game points total to be spent on allied subfactions without breaking allegiance. It's up to you. You can find the info for all this in the new General's Handbook and Grand Alliance: Order.
>>
>>55119617
>Models need to have 2" range with each other to remain consistant, and different units must remain 2" away from each other.

Units have to remain within 1 inches of another model from their unit, but there is nothing in the rules about how close allied units can be to you, only enemy units.
Also, if you are out of consistency, a model isn't removed. They just have to reform to get back into consistency next movement phase.

If I am wrong, show me where it states you may not place a model within 2 inches of another, allied unit.
As it is though, it looks like you do not actually know the rules of the game.
>>
>>55119599
The fluff is still developing, but the gist is
>Dark elves were reincarnated into this world as the Exiles subfaction due to ideological differences
>Malekith merged with his dragon and went crazy
>Morathi turned to Slaanesh and some unnamed shadow daemons
>dark elf society fractured due to lack of proper leadership
>>
>>55119727
Sorry, I must have misread it. It's been a while since I played and I may be confusing it with 40k

But just understand that. Units must remain 1" or they sacrifice their entire move to reform. Unless you're super packing your units together in a block like old, 1" isn't that useful a curve, especially if you lose units around the Donut anyway.

I'm not sure you can move through ally units either, so it might get your heroes trapped too.
>>
>>55119789
You choose what models you want to die when you take damage, so you shouldn't find yourself out of consistency unless you want to.

As for movement - again, it doesn't say you can't. It only states you can't move within 3 inches of an enemy model. Using that logic, as long as you can finish your move in an empty space, then moving through your own models is fine.
>>
>>55111544
Dispossessed NEED compendium hero's to keep play fresh but at least the new stuff will help a bit, I'm still bringing Grimm Burloksson as an ally in my KO army since he costs the same as a cogsmith but is much better as he repairs d3 instead of 1 on warmachines, adds 6 inches to thunderer/quarreler shooting, and has way better weapon stats,
>>
>>55119862
>I'm still bringing Grimm Burloksson as an ally in my KO army since
No you aren't. Grimm Burloksson has no dispossessed keyword anymore, so the KO can not use him as an ally. If you take him, you have to use a Grand Alliance Order allegiance.
>>
>>55119599
The answer is to protect copyright and making more thematically coherent armies.

This info is in the Grand Alliance of Order book, which needs to be bought.

The factions that were once Dark Elves are:
>Darkling Covens: Former sorcerer-empresses and her magically charmed servants. Sorceress and Infantry.
>Daugthers of Khaine: Crazy Khaine Worshippers. Crazy eld ladies and their altars.
>Order Serpentis: Guys that breed dragons in very evil ways. Cold Ones and Hydras.
>Scourge Privateers: Aelven mafia, go around raiding on ships and capturing monster to sell. Black Ark themed stuff.
>Shadowblades: Ninja Assassins.

The cost is that the armies were split into lots of tiny bits so when it comes for time to update their lore will already be seeded.

For what units exist for these subfactions you can see:
The list is in alphabetic order for each faction. But if you want a smaller list check these links.

To be fair. We live in a world where Disney could buy several countries and sue major countries if they wanted to copyright their Nations name. It's no wonder GW wouldn't try to nip this in the bud before someone like Disney copyrights classical fantasy races

So you are cheating then.

Grimms warscroll was removed with the recent FAQs.

https://17890-presscdn-0-51-pagely.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/AoS_DWF_Compendium_2017.pdf

Note how it says Grimm Burloksson is now a regular Cogsmith. That over rules the old compendium. Using the old warscroll is now cheating.

Do you not know how to read or are you too poor to read a free FAQ?

That was BEFORE the new compendium was released, and the new compendium specifically mention what warscroll to use for what model.

That FAQ refers to back when the "new" rules and compendium rules were almost the exact same thing

Potential new player here. What do I need to play skirmish? I was going to grab the Deathrattle Barrow Lords box to start.
>>
>>55120574
Also the FAQ you pointed out is for the core rules, not the GHB. The core rules only are for open play. The GHB pretty much overrules it with matched play points. The mourngul recently got it's warscroll nerfed, and it doesn't make any fucking sense to use the old warscroll because you like it better. Use the latest warscrolls, use the latest points.

Pretty much forget about any of the old compendium. Use the latest ones with the faction keywords removed and new points.

My thought is that skellies/ghosts/vamps are all probably relatively safe bets, with new and popular plastic model lines, and the latter two having special allegiance rules. To be like foolproof safe the sad reality is probably stormcast as a best bet, or another new line that's popular like tophat dwarves
>>

>>

No, you just need to download warscrolls for your units from gw store or mobile app. Also download the general's handbook - you can use grand alliance allegiance abilities for your skirmish warband if you don't like the skirmish ones
>>
>>55117918
Their shooting is pretty minimal but they're fast and super Killy even without doombull synergy buff to bloodgreed. You'll likely struggle on objectives though with such a low model count
>>
>>55119058
Has a cool shooting attack and is fairly cheap. Won't likely win games by itself but as part of a larger strategy it's a useful monster
>>
>>55120720
oh, yeah, for some reason I thought the mortar cost 100
>>
>>55119315
I haven't looked at their warscroll but since it's a behemoth unit I doubt there's leader/battle line distinctions so no, they can't make a legal force on their own outside of open/narrative play

BEHOLD

I have made a Fyreslayers version of the Ironbark Dwarf-forest.

Allegiance: Sylvaneth
Branchwych (80)

- Artefact: Seed of Rebirth
- Deepwood Spell: Regrowth
Branchwych (80)
- Deepwood Spell: Verdant Blessing
Auric Runesmiter (80)

Auric Runeson on Magmadroth (240)

3 x Kurnoth Hunters (220)
- Greatbows
Treelord (240)
Household (70)
Ironbark Wargrove (160)
Sylvaneth Wyldwood - Sylvaneth Allegiance (0)

Total: 1990/2000

Now not Only do Tree people move around the battlefield, but Angry hairy Midgets pop out of the ground or hurl large spears on back of a dragon.

Of course, these are both for fun, because I don't think Sylvaneth can ally with Dispossesed OR Fyreslayers.

Sylvaneth literally can only ally with Wanderers and Stormcast.

Which makes the Ironbark Wargrove hilariously misunderstood and the one of the Fyreslayer lodges backgrounds questionable.

>Dark elves were reincarnated into this world as the Exiles subfaction due to ideological differences
Actually they have no fluff that I know of and they were just dropped into the setting with no context.
The "mini-factions" they were shattered into have some very basic throw away fluff about being Sigmars's bitches and errand boys.

>Malekith merged with his dragon and went crazy
No, he didn't "merge" with his dragon. He, being the incarnate of shadow magic, survived the end times and being sucked alive into a warp rift by unknown means that were never explained. He "awakens" in the new setting as a disincarnate "mist" that takes thousands of years to remember who he was and assemble himself into a corporeal being. Then he joins the super team of incarnates with Sigmar to fight chaos before heading to the realm of shadow to do shadow stuff with whatever elf shadow things live there with him.

>Morathi turned to Slaanesh and some unnamed shadow daemons

No, Morathi got dragged into a warp rift by Slaanesh in the end times and was presumed dead until she was spotted alive in the realm of shadow cavorting with daemons. No further information is available on the subject.

>dark elf society fractured due to lack of proper leadership

There is no such thing as dark elf society in age of sigmar, there are dark elves whose existence is never explained and never given context that, based on the shitty fluff that exists, just run around in human stormcast cities doing bitch work for Sigmar.

New Shadow Aelves realm of shadow reveal/release when?

Better be soon, I'm starting to get back into Warhammer since I quit during 7th edition WHFB. Stripped my old shitty painted mini's and am practicing my painting skills on them before I buy anything new.
Still can't decide if I'm going for 40k of AOS since both factions I like in both settings are either shattered to pieces (delves) or are ugly af metal mini's (adeptus ministorum) so whichever receives an update first is what I'm going to play.

>>55119546
>>55119411

The thing i hate most about this whole thing is that the majority of art that we get for AoS and more recently 40k is its all based on actual models, often the characters displayed are even in the same pose as the models their obviously drawn from. Its more obvious i think with the latest deathguard and primaris marines but i miss cool drawings and art of just random shit from the universe that didnt have a model or was just a generic battle or background piece.

Pic Related, even the normal warriors are drawings of models. Mortarion and the bell guy too obvious to point out.
>>
>>55122849
I agree, but there's a condition

They have done that many times in the past for promotional art for boxes, events, etc

And that pic is pretty much a promotional event of the Death Guard codex, maybe even the cover of it

But as I've said, I agree with you when they do that even when it's not promotional, when the art is just the random one you can find in battletomes-codexes or wathever
>>
>>55122849
Well yeah, it's promotional art. Blanche's Kharadron art is great but It doesn't make me want to buy any models.

Ahh i see, that definetly makes sense in this case then for them to look like the models. I just miss things like that. Random dudes in the setting doing something or maybe even nothing, it helped to build it all up in my head that these were huge settings and so on. I would love if they focused on getting more of that kinda stuff out.

The idea im trying to go for is a lack of a tomb kings presence made the latter of command fall to a lich priest, but his more inferior hold over the undead means he cant keep larger reanimated beasts under his control.
