I'm trying to make Sea of Sand less confusing, even if only for posterity. The only things I can think of are to explicitly name the Dream of Genie species of each narrator, like the third one mentioning taking the protagonist back to 'Jann Town", but I worry that would break the tone completely. What should I do, or should I just abandon this CYOA and move onto something the thread finds potentially more enjoyable?

So I'm actually starting to get workin' on Mechfu.

Question though. I was originally gonna design it so that you have to choose a girl, and then also choose which mech you want, but now I'm tossing around the idea of making each girl each have their own specific mech that you also have to take into consideration when picking which girl you want, sorta like Kaifu each girl's mutations were different.

The former option is better, right? Allows for more freedom instead of being torn between a girl you like and a shitty mech you don't want to use.

You should define what the stock weapons you get are. I question the utility of anti tank weaponry (bazookas) when shooting at zombies, if there are intelligent/superpowered/whatever zombies you would be better off with an anti material rifle or a GPMG. Bazooka is unwieldy for shooting at man sized targets, doesn't sling much of a blast (RPG would be better for this), and has comparatively slow travel time.

Your survival chance allocations seem arbitrary.

Why does all of the equipment function without maintenance?

Should the tools and security require the generator first?

Why do you use distance from the city as your main mechanic for allocating survival or fighting chance? It feels particularly arbitrary.

There is something to be said for rolling distance from the city into the calculation, but it is hard to shake the gut instinct that a castle ought to be leaps and bounds better than a cabin in the middle of the woods.

Expedition to Gangga Negara. It's got a high survival rate, and discovering a race of dryads is an amazing payoff. The other rewards are kinda funny compared to it.

Lady Trevalyn is the obvious choice for a contact. With a high survival rate, looking for a flower won't be too difficult. Her objective takes weeks and is not insane; compared to destruction or assassination. +8 Credits

Team:

Pollinus and Hoover -3 (25%/60%) Pollinus is a bit frail, but Hoover will help him pull through.

Katie and Jane -3 (50%/75%) Attractive, talented, and overall improves our chances of succeeding and coming back alive. Jane in particular might help us find the cyr flower for Lady Trevalyn.

Jack Faulds and Vara -2 (65%/96%) Jack might be a pain when he gets dead drunk, but he increases success significant. Vara helps as well. I wouldn't mind working with Sal Morgen, but the grenade pranking might get someone killed.

Rewards/Challenges: Treasure Thief I and Crush.

The challenges are largely debilitating save treasure thief I. I'll work on a book deal or hopefully if the expedition is successful I'll have something to talk about. Getting the girl at the end is worth more to me than that.

Results: Treasure: FAIL; Survival:SUCCEED.

Well, we didn't find the lost treasure, though Lady Trevalyn was quite pleased with the Cyr Flower we brought back to her. Perhaps we would have succeeded if I worked for Sentinel Mio and took Ming-Na along with us. Trade a temple for a plant race... Probably worth it, but I'm not crazy enough for that.

We all part ways after the failed expedition, though we do have stories to tell. I pen a memoir and head home with Katie, Vara, and Jane, In the end, I get the girl and a bit of money. That's all that really matters.. Pollinus, Hoover, and Jack retire to a comfortable life, fame eludes them, but they find peace.

Esper; Investigator, The Possessed.

Powers: Telepathy, Empathy, Memory Search, Your Mind is Mine, PK Flash.

Esper is the strongest choice of all of these. The best part about pskers is that the mind is a hard thing to defend in most settings. The other choices are more for raw power rather than guile.

Fairy is a cool choice, but intel is more valuable for my build.

In terms of enemies, I wouldn't be effective against the Scientist or Unspeakable, the rest I can deal with to varying degrees. The possessed is likely the weakest of them.

As previously mentioned, telepathy is some powerful crap. Empathy and Memory search means I know what everyone else knows, and persuasion becomes more powerful with empathy. It allows for nonviolent resolution.

PK flash is great in emergencies, and mind control will help win fights as necessary. It doesn't say the BBEGs are immune to it, so I'll assume I can use it to control or otherwise banish them. As for physical power, I'll presume the investigator is armed, and I'll get a knife or something for self defense. I shouldn't need it.

I'm going to work on Halfdragon again, and so far I've converted page 1 to a new graphics and turned it from a point-buy into a "some options give you less stuff and some options give you more stuff" as a way to balance stuff. I don't find it fun to balance points and I think this is more organic:
Instead of saying the magically adept class costs a shitload of points it'll instead "cost" the same as all other classes, and will instead give you +X number of magic affinity but cost you -X number of physical abilities/skills.

Does that sound like an idea you could get behind?
Or is the classic "there are objectively better options available: These are balanced by higher costs = you can't get as much stuff" option superior?
(Do keep in mind that it's only page 1 and 2 that will use this possible point system. Page 3 uses money which you can influence with a set of choices of page 1, and number of companions isn't influenced by the point system I'm referring to. I'll totally rip off how Battlemage does number of companions )
