Anyone have any experience with God Tribal decks? It sounds like a ton of fun but it also may sound really durdely and dumb

So I'm go to my LGS last night, pick up a couple singles, and sit down at a table and start sleeving while waiting for a game to start. This guy I've seen before who seems pretty casual starts asking around for spare BR cards, whatever he can get his hands on, to round out a Rakdos Blood Witch deck he has building. I directed him to the store owner, who gave him a bunch of Amonkhet draft chaff for free so he could play and some basics, and I told him roughly how many lands to put in. We sit down to our first game, I'm playing Karador, and like an idiot I drop a Mindslicer when there's a Waste Not on the field. Of course the Mindslicer dies, allowing the Gisa and Geralf player to get a huge board of enchantments and artifacts with all of the cards and zombies he got from Waste Not. I top-deck Bane of Progress, and then win with combat damage with it and a huge Nighthowler bestow on a flier.
For the next two games, regardless of life totals, what I was playing, what anyone else was playing, or even board-state, new guy swung at me with everything every turn. Even when I was playing draw-go Oloro and countering/removing the more serious threats of the other opponents.
I'm not even mad, I'm just confused by the dogged grudge held because I won with a 25/25 and a 14/14 two games ago with a different deck.

the serve different functions. martyr is means you can play a turn 4 licia, and can greatly reduce her cost once the commander tax comes in. feudkillers already costs 6, and will only reduce the cost 10, leaving you with a mana cost reduction of 4 mana. it's not the same, man. trust me. build soul sisters with licia and see how well martyr of sands does.

I've got some interesting things going, but I also need general lifegain in mardu. What would you recommend (aside from lifelink)? Repeatable effects like Nyx-fleece ram would be more useful, plus cards that interact with lifegain like Sunbond.

I run one, though it turns out half the Amonkhet Gods aren't worth using so I ended up swapping them for Enchantment-Based Creatures. Generally if you make it past Turn 6 you're good to go; you can get your Devotion stable and keep churning out Gods.

You'll be tempted to run Child of Alara for the kaboom, but it's a trap. You blow up your own supports that give you Devotion that way, and slow yourself down just as much. I run Horde because he comes out, swings for a bunch, and can still block, /and/ doesn't draw removal like a magnet.

There have been plenty of things that don't look anything like what their ability does, including a lot of the Eldrazi usually just having their abilities work as recognizable things because "it's an Eldrazi".

Making them oddball legendaries and as abstract and weird as they have been could easily make them recognizable enough, especially since a new release of them would entail giving them new artwork of their original designs and reworked abilities, like they did with the Eldrazi titans.

I was going to build Marchesa as an enchantment based pillowfort deck but now I'm going to switch to Mathas. I think a "bounty hunter" tribal deck is a great idea and you're in the colors to really use their abilities. Many of the cards that kill creatures target tapped ones and you could use white cards that tap creatures along with red cards that force combat to easily destroy some tapped creatures.

I was really hopeful that Derevi's effect was weak enough that I could safely run it as Bird Tribal or "On Combat Hit".dec.

Sugestions on how to improve or spicy tech that could be fun? It used to be an Intet deck that tried to cheat big creatures and spells into play, but I could almost never make good use of Intet's ability, so I changed it into something more direct and consistent

Well, then he's your man. However, I'd recommend at least considering Tymna+Thrasios/Kondo hatebears. It lets you play more proactively, rather than relying on counterspells alone to protect yourself. Plus, Tymna+Kondo turn all your dudes into flying Ophidians.

To be fair the decks are different. Tymna + Thrasios is just a generic deck, it's not really built around Tymna even though she can be built that way. It just feels like you might as well as play Tymna + thrasios whenever you would play fewer colors at that point if you have that mindset.

Oh, but anyway, if you do want that kind of deck, pretty sure Edric is still better even with fewer colors. Edric's draw is just on a totally different level than Tymna's, and scales much more powerfully when built around. Tymna + Kondo is fine but I think if you want the "draw cards by swinging with dudes" thing Edric is the one.
