Is having a guro fetish slaaneshi or khornate?
>>
>>54683146
this might sound a bit weeaboo (or Chinese-aboo), but could there be a Cathayan faction in the Old World? There's something in the last End Times book about the remnants of Cathayan civilisation fleeing Grimgor in a great fleet, "never to be seen again", but what if they turned up in the Old World, and formed a New Cathay or something?
>>
>>54683198
Take this shit out of here.

Khorne is about honor in combat. Prolonging the kill through guro torture fetishes is just an insult to him.
>>
>>54683204
Sure? But I think Endhammer is focused on existing factions.
>>
>>54683198
Slaaneshi, without out a doubt. Why is this even a question?
>>
>>54683327
oh, in that case
>Sigmar-worshipping Marauders: after witnessing the defeat of Archaon at the hands of Sigmar, a number of tribes have turned their worship to that of Sigmar. Given their barbarity, this has mostly resulted in human sacrifice performed with facsimiles of Ghal Maraz and brutal merciless war against all to catch the eye of Sigmar

>in Bretonnia, the Elves start expanding into human territories, forming racial caste systems with humans providing the labour force. In some areas, they are considered more lenient rulers than their previous Bretonnian overlords

>in Karak Norn, the son of Belegar of Karak Eight Peaks has begun to reach manhood, growing his beard hairs. Already, he is acclaimed as a mighty warrior and an heir to Grungni by some, but many others worry about his influence and direction, potentially dooming what is left of the Dwarfs

>>
>>54682706
I'd actually have to say pegasi - I like how they look, and the fact that they kind of 'run' as they fly is cute. It makes knights or lords really stand out. Generally they did a really good job at making the more exotic mounts and creatures come to life, like demigryphs, trolls, Chaos Spawn...

>>54683592

>>
>>54683664
You'll have to ask the elf people. They freak out about any possible change.

As for Belegar's son... sounds fine? Didn't know he had a son.
>>
>>54683761
he's only mentioned in Black Library novels. His mum (Kemmi something) is pregnant with him in Thorgrim, and he's around 12 years old in End Times: Thanquol, where he dies in the final siege of Karak Eight Peaks
>>
So, what do y'all suppose could get a female dwarf to take the Slayer Oath, if we assume said dwarf woman was pretty average for her sex before the incident (e.g., not a ranger, mercenary, Imperial dwarf, etc)?
>>
>>54683890
Infertile.
>>
>>54683684
CA has been making good feet since rome 2 at least.
Plus Enchantress has the best feet.
>>
>>54683910
By enchantress I mean spellsinger.
>>
>>54683695
They're not horrible, they're well designed and all, they're just more Chaos and less Mesopotamian, which is a little bit boring when we've already seen Chaos a lot. I kind of hope CA will take a chance to take things in a new direction, but they don't seem that interested in being that creative, just wanting to use designs given to them in creative ways rather than make their own designs.

But at the same time, some of the old GW minis don't seem to have aged all that well. Looking at them quick I like the line dwarves well enough, but the Great Taurus is literally a bull with wings, not even trying to be anything else.

>>54683890
Technically anything that could make a male dwarf become a slayer - a great tragedy, a personal shame. I think one dwarf became a slayer because of the loss of his son, so a female dwarf could easily have the same backstory. But...don't quote me on this, because I can't remember where I read it, but I think the Slayer stuff is a male-only thing for a big reason, since a lot of male dwarves are under a lot of pressure and most don't ever get children because of the skewed ratio of sexes, so the Slayer Oath becomes one of the main ways a dwarf with no future and no continuation of his family line can do something to be remembered if he's not a skilled craftsman.

>>54683946
I don't think it's ever explicitly stated a woman can't take the slayer oath, but I can think of literally no examples of it ever happening. Still, dwarfen women are as honor-bound as the men. The slayer oath isn't about utility, it's about restoring honor.

Great for Endhammer, then.

As for the Norscan ideas -- if you look into the discussion and find "Olaf God-Hater," it's the concept for the Norscan "Sigmarite."

Essentially, like most Warhammer characters, he's a bunch of historical/legendary tropes mashed together. A little bit of Beowulf. A little bit of Rollo, Duke of Normandy. The idea, it seems, was you could take him as a Lord and then use Marauders in an Empire army. Or some mix of Marauders and Empire.

There was some talk, in the threads, about making him Harry the Hammer (hence the part about killing the undead). But the Beowulf part comes in with him finding the Runefang of one of the fallen Elector-Counts and using it to kill a Chaos Troll or Spawn which has made its den in Salkalten -- then taking the town with his host of Marauders and begining to let surviving Ostlander refugees behind the pallisade.

They still have the old style, it's just given to the sorcerers and enjeinners, aka the upper classes of Dawi Zhar society. The Infernal Guard are front line grunts, elite front line grunts, but grunts nonetheless, of course they don't have giant hats.

>>
>>54684297
I can't honestly be sure. L'Anguille talks about a lighthouse that High Elves regularly come to visit, but I'm not sure if any actually live there like they do with Marienburg, in a merchantile or diplomatic sense. Though overall a pretty nice book, sometimes Knights of the Grail can be frustrating with details like that it barely goes into. Sometimes I feel like I have a better picture of Bretonnian society before reading it compared to after.

I think it's mean to leave the little details to the GM to fill in. Like the Donjon of Dol, what is it? I say 'Magneto Prison' as it held the Fey Enchantress during the days of the False Grail Incident. Though I can see what you're saying, it's like an inverse of Sigmar's Heirs where it had no details on the Elector Counts but had stats on villages and towns outside of the capitals.

>>54684467
Shut your whore mouth.
>>
>>54684444
Aren't there also some Wood Elves in Kislev, quads?

Pretty sure the Laurelorn elves aren't Wood Elves per se - they don't have that same connection to the forest the Wood Elves do, they just live in it. They're more like forest High Elves, if that makes any sense.
>>
>>54684465
A great many cities have elven districts that are permanent, so it wouldn't be a surprise. Erengrad, Altdorf, Nuln, Marienburg (of course)...

>empire has half elves
I guess cowering in fear huddled up around a fire inside of a fortified city while all sorts of horrible creatures prowl the night is a good way of getting even the high elves to put out.
>>
>>54684566
It's as much a name as High Elves, Dark Elves and Wood Elves. Simplified names for a group of sundered peoples. It's a name you'd likely never hear an elf say unless they were speaking to humans, calling themselves Asur, Druchii or Asrai.
>>
>>54684533
Yes, but they don't interact with humans almost at all, just occasionally appearing out of the forests to massacre kyazak or Chaos armies. The Kislevites leave them along. The social elves of Kislev can be found in Erengrad.

Frankly the elves of Kislev can't pull the usual bullshit they might elsewhere, this land is not theirs and never really has been. The Gospodarin and Ungols understand it at a spiritual level.

Each undying Lord of Chaos chooses a part of the world for their dominion.

>In the ruins of the Old World, Nurgle's servants oversee a great, festering farm of bloated and diseased things that were once men. The lucky chosen cavort from place to place as part of a great, absurd Carnival of Chaos, looking for warpstone and fighting the rats coming from below.

>In the Southlands, Khorne's devoted are locked in ever-lasting battle. Some Savage Orc tribes have been left to haunt the jungles -- they're good sport for the Eternal Warrior.

>Ulthuan has sunken beneath the waves.

>The New World is dominated by Slaanesh. Continent-wide orgies, induced by mind-warping narcotics and coordinated by discordant music.

>Cathay, Ind, and the rest are dominated by Tzeentch. People renowned for their scheming and tricks -- rumored to already have worshiped Tzeentch before the world ended. Life goes on much the same as it did, with constant double-crossing, but otherwise civilization. Except there are many more mutations.

Where these realms meet, chaotic, demonic battle begins as the rival lords of chaos fight for dominion of the Earth.

It's survival of the fittest to the extreme, so you have female soldiers on the ground, all the way to some owning Black Arks. Elf society, in all three groups, is largely non-sexist, though there are certain jobs that are male only/female only like Assassins/Sorceresses for Dark Elves. And obviously for High Elves the Phoenix King and Everqueen.

I don't really mind that some things that are obviously meant to be interesting sights or opportunities for potential quests aren't embellished on. It happens with a lot of locations and a few characters.

But what does bother me is when those things don't seem to be left mysterious, there's just almost no information at all. It's a lot easier to find detailed information about Nuln, Marienburg or Middenheim than any single city in Bretonnia, which frustrates me when I really want to know how Bretonnia works outside of rural areas. Civil strife and other conflicts are hinted at, but not enough that I can get a good understanding of how they happen or work. It's an overview that's just too shallow when I hunger for more information, and meanwhile the Empire is looked at from various angles - religion, daily life, history, organizations...

It technically did its job, giving a look at Bretonnia, and relies on GMs making use of tools from other books - while Empire-focused, they can be refluffed easily enough in most cases. But the book itself is so vague and unfocused, and so much is intentionally unexplained (like Mousilion, it just works somehow I guess - even Barony of the Damned had to throw up its hands at times). I really want to know about Iron Orcs and Chasm Spawn, but nope - no real info for me.

Do Dark Elf slave revolts ever succeed? Apparently Malekith actually encourages them in order to keep the Dark Elves on their toes, but it's not made clear if slaves ever beat off their masters, or if a few manage to escape, or what. If they do manage to escape, what happens to them? Are they hunted down, do they try to form their own societies like the real world Maroons - possibly with the Dark Elves making note of these communities as a source of future slaves? Do slaves do things beyond work in mines or cutting down trees - are there especially favored positions, or relatively safe jobs?

You really have to specify which brand of Elves you're working with here. Wood Elves mainly see the Bretonnians as a useful barrier against enemies, or a source of amusement and prey to hunt - not really something worth ruling over, especially when they're very isolationist and generally want to be left alone, not try to expand. The High Elves might manage it, but they're also fairly moral, stretched thin over their own territories as it is, and quite frankly would probably loathe trying to rule over a bunch of inbreed uneducated peasants that can barely last a few decades. Imagine trying to run a kingdom where everyone below you is a dog, with about the same lifespan and intelligence. The Dark Elves are the only ones who would really want to conquer and rule things, and they definitely would do more than replace the existing aristocracy - they'd make Bretonnia in their own image, with humans serving as slaves.

I can respect and understand creativity in 'what if' scenarios, but you have to pay attention to how things are set up in the universe, and try and follow how things might logically work out. If your scenario wouldn't fit with how things seem to be, you have to try and explain it. There is a difference between being willing to ally with some folks, and wanting to rule over them, so it's up to you to try and explain why elves of any flavor would want to form a racial caste system in Bretonnia. Well, maybe not you since I don't know if you're the guy who came up with the original idea, but you know what I mean.

Khorne loves punishing weak and sorcerers, its include torturing. His motto is kill, maim, burn. Every chaos worshipper enjoys inflicting pain.

There's been a handful of noble Chaos Warriors.

I believe there was an example of one in the form of a wandering Chaos Warrior who murdered a really bad imperial noble, and was greeted to the sound of all the villagers cheering him. He felt happy, and left the village intact.
>>
>>54688947
Khorne is about killing in war. He doesn't enjoy killing noncombatants or torture. He's bloodthirsty, but not sadistic.

Slaanesh doesn't enjoy murder, but is incredibly sadistic.

Nurgle and Tzeench don't really enjoy inflicting pain. They have their own agendas.

Malal enjoys everything so long as he can fuck everyone over.

Nurgle's diseases cause pain but he doesn't himself like it. He loves spreading disease and horror but also sees it as becoming reborn, stronger, and happier through disease.

Added question to that question: who's next in control of Reikland after Franz? It could be that the Sigmarites would obstinately still want a Reiklander prince on the throne.

Otherwise, I'll throw Valmir von Raukov into the ring. He's a Sigmarite in an Ulrican province which may make him more palatable to both sides, and has military experience without many major flaws. Todbringer is rad, but he's too busy spending his time chasing after Beastmen to even really rule Middenland, and most other contestants are either too greedy or just chumps you wouldn't trust with ruling.

>>

His son, dummy. He's also likely to get the title of Emperor, too -- Boris and Leitdorf ain't got shit on Imperial succession.

Ludwig von Holswig-Schliestein, named for his Grandfather, the previous Emperor and Elector-Count of Reikland.

Even if Ludwig isn't elected Emperor (highly unlikely, given his pedigree -- I think even his great grandfather was Emperor), Ludwig would still be Elector-Count of Reikland.

Just because someone is elected Emperor doesn't mean they take over Reikland.

You ever notice that the Advisor will start praising your conquests while including that it was his advice that helped you, and it was as if a divine power was helping you?

The way diplomacy and what areas you end up conquering and everything can go crazy in the game makes some sense if you think Tzeentch is fucking with things.
>>
>>54689622
It's because, as stupid as it was, the welfs were a living, breathing, organic ticking time bomb within the game. Like many real life powers in the world, they didn't spawn because an arbitrary threshold was suddenly ticked like how early expansion will result in a quicker rise of chaos. Even though they were a bunch of crazy, expansionist elf-fucks they didn't become absolutely insane until Orion began unifying the tree hugger tribes and morphed into the TRUE green tide.

And again, as a true part of the world you could - if you desired it - hinder or help it. If you were truly crazy, by turn 30 you could have built up an expedition capable of burning them down and saving the world from green chaos. Likewise, you could choose to buddy up with them and thereby join these chaotic-neutral chucklefucks in their own version of the end times.

Now though, they're not much. And it makes sense seeing as the Bretts were actually fleshed out instead of fodder for the Empire or Welfs to devour. But that sense of dread is unfortunately diminished and we're back to the Rise of Chaos artificial difficulty where never-ending waves of Chaos Warriors will delete half the empire until Archaon shows up based on the player progression & time.

This isn't to say other forces can't fill in the same role, but they don't really do it right. Tree Hitler came at you with a blitzkrieg of 7-8 armies BUT if you fought through them and reached their sacred forest, you just have to defeat 5 garrisons and the nightmare is over. That's unintentionally excellent final boss design. Orcs could fill that role, but they lose the Badlands Bowl almost 90% of the time and even then it requires you to slog through the fucking badlands to kill them all. Norsca is a slog through frozen chaos territory fighting stacks of (by then and for now) late game chariot and troll spam, which gets old fast. Vampires CAN fill the niche but usually those fuckers die mid-campaign, having done their duty as being the mid-tier boss faction. Even then they're much weaker now due to the Von Carstein/Vampire Count split as Vlad gets bullied by Averland or competes with his son for territory instead of the vanilla Mannlet crusade featuring Shwartzhafen as his bitchboys.

You'd think they'd at least make the Wood Elves something of a threat beyond 'eeeh its gonna be really hard to take these guys out because attrition.' I've never seen them do much more than attack Parravon, and Bretonnia gets to live pretty quietly all in all. Some games they don't do much beyond unify Bretonnia, some games they manage to conquer territory in Marienburg and Nordland...but I really feel sorry for Mousilion, goddamn. One single little territory, and they seem too afraid to ever attack their neighbors and usually get eliminated by the midgame. Though I have seen Mousilion take Lyonesse and L'Anguille once, and for a brief moment they had wolves and knights instead of skelle and zombie spam. But otherwise they're like the Wood Elves - more of a hassle than a threat.

I'd hoped with a setting like Warhammer the Total War game would include a lot of threats from a ton of different angles to juggle, but it seems more like there's always a set path to fight through and not many enemies, and the higher difficulty settings just mean the major factions confederate and get their goodies faster.

>‘My reward,’ he says in a voice that is barely more than a whisper in a storm, ‘is to bring word of the arrival of Kormak, Champion of Valkia the Bloody. I am his herald. What greater honour than to bring word of the arrival of the blood god’s servants?’

>My blood turns cold as ice and I clutch at the dying warrior’s arm, exchanging a look with the elder. He sits rigid, his gaze faraway, almost as if he has not heard Edred’s words. But he has heard them. It is written in the terror in his eyes, the abject fear on his face.

>‘But we are peaceful. We have… done nothing to incur the wrath of the gods!’ My pleas sound childish and pitiful and Edred shrugs, a movement that brings more blood streaming from his chest.

>‘It matters not from whence the blood flows,’ he says. ‘Only that it does.’

-From the short story "Harbinger"

Stop being a racist. They are human and all humans desire peace. Khorne doesn't though. Peace is for cowards and weaklings. The weak should fear the strong. The weak have no place in the world that Khorne dreams of.

>‘I do not know what it was that happened to you,’ panted Eris, withdrawing from the fray briefly. Sweat trickled down her face, smearing the blood and the dirt that she had gathered during the course of the battle. In the moonlight, she was pale and her expression was one of pain. The wounds she had taken during the course of conflict were beginning to take their toll on her. ‘I do not know, nor do I care. You seek to destroy my people and I cannot let you do that.’

>‘You cannot deny me,’ Valkia replied, her eyes fixed on the slender form of the warrior daughter before her. ‘The price of weakness and betrayal is death. When these cowards turned their back on me they turned their back on all they could have been. Now vengeance comes, and when I have claimed the skulls of every living Schwarzvolf warrior, I will raze the Vale.’

>‘You would slaughter the infirm and our infants?’ Eris was shocked by the words. ‘You have no compassion at all?’

>‘It matters not from whence the blood flows, Eris,’ Valkia said, leaning in close, her voice low so that Eris had to lean in to hear her. ‘So long as it does flow. Thus it must ever be.’

>Before Eris could assimilate the words, Valkia’s skull met hers in a savage head-butt and she reeled backwards, stunned by the blow. The daemon princess spread her wings and stood straight, a truly awesome sight to behold and she lowered Slaupnir at her child.

>‘Thus it will be!’

Valkia slaughtered her own tribe. She and her daemonic army slaughtered those who can fight (including her own daughter), and then rode down the children and the elderly. All in the name of Khorne who was most pleased with his bride.

Khorne cares not, always remember that.

Archaon went to hell and back to resist Chaos. The last straw was when Sigmar, his father-figure and deity, showed him only silence after a life dedicated to his service. Even in his damnation, he was never truly the Chaos Gods. Merely using them to lash out against the false man-god who abandoned him.

Other Imperials have cracked under less pressure.

His mother lost her mind when her repeated attempts to abort him were foiled by Be'lakor resetting time. She would go through the trauma of abortion but wake up again still pregnant.

It was said that Archaon's mother was pure of heart and unremarkable. The kind of mortal that the Chaos Gods utterly loathes. Just a fisherman's wide and loving mother living a mundane and honest life. I disagree with that. She tried to murder the bundle of joy in her belly just because the horrible way he was conceived. She tried to kill an innocent soul that did nothing wrong.

In Archaon's case, in WHFB, his logic makes the most sense since the world was going to be eventually consumed by Chaos. It couldn't be helped. Maybe in a hundred years or 10 thousand, it was going to happen. Instead of a slow lingering death at the pleasure of the Chaos Gods, a sudden and quick end it better. When the Chaos Gods flush of victory fades, they will realise that they fucked up.

Chaos takes over, but they haven't truly won: the remnants of society have fled to the last vestiges of dwarven hold outs and dig ever deeper. Skaven are not off the plate for chaos, so the small bands of rebel forces of order have some moral quandary: deal with the rat men who will without a doubt back stab you (and cross that bridge when it comes) or reject the rat whisperings and somehow try to unit what's left under the world and push back, a sort of reversal of roles where order becomes the raiding, disjointed force.

Maybe have some sort of lizardmen mcguffin in not!Aztec country that will help. Can't get there by ship since topside everything is demons and brimstone, so they gotta sneak about or find some weird, really deep underway that might have something horrible hidden in it.

Dude, perhaps you don't relate to Archaon because you haven't suffered as he had. You know daddy issues, existential/religious crisis, etc etc. Your failure to relate to a character doesn't make him/her bad. Archaon's behaviour is believable for some on in his position. We can see it happening in the real world albeit without the Chaos powers and genocide mostly. According to the seminar by Archaon's creator, Archaon whole purpose was to be a sympathetic and relatable villain so Chaos wouldn't appear to be wholly Chaotic evil baby eaters.

When they fought in the final novel, Gotrek inherited Grimnir's divinity and activated the Rune of Unmaking which is weapon created by the Dwarfen Smith god to destroy the Chaos Gods. Be'lakor was cleaved by the axe but survived proving his endurance. However, the axe fucked him up bad. Though, he managed to walk it off later.

Archaon from the get go was meant to be a sympathetic villain. He doesn't seek power and glory for himself. That's beneath him. His twisted righteousness and compassion forces him to do evil things that he believes are for the greater good. GW has described him as some one ranging from anti-hero to an anti-villain.

Boromir was even shorter at 6'4" and actually broader in shoulder then Aragorn was, which means he fits the description of my boss at work.
Xbox Huge was not yet a style that had been invented when Tolkien wrote his novels, so he had impressive but actually realistic proportions in mind.

Abaddon does not want to kill everything. His entire goal is to cuck the Chaos Gods from destroying the galaxy and rule the Dark Imperium as the Dark Emperor. He believes that's it's his birthright to rule over mankind. He is an irredeemable villain. If Abaddon wins, the galaxy continues.

Archaon is far from what Abaddon is. Because Archaon lacks any mortal and immortal ambition, he would see the world burned to ash and him alongside it.

In all fairness I'm not sure if the creator was really upset or anything that Grimgor head butted him during Storm of Chaos and that Chaos didn't really get many victories due to the Forces of Light players doing a weird amount of coordination.
Truth be told I couldn't care much either way since it IS his creator's right to write bad fanfiction if he's upset and is allowed to write fluff, or to do it for other reasons either.

Which makes him even more obnoxious than the universally despised Failbaddon. It's almost like tacking on a fanfiction.net background to Failbaddon makes him worse or something.
>>
>>54692204
well, we're talking about soldiers and warriors who are generally fit
obviously, a random neet is poor example of our worlds' humans' endurance too, as he wouldn't be able to chase an animal until it died of exhaustion and then carry it back to campsite
>>
>>54692193
The ending to Storm of Chaos felt very much like GW just didn't know what to do and swept it all under the rug to be ignored since it boosted sales like they wanted and they were done with it.
I was actually kinda surprised they reused Archaeon for End Times, he was kinda quietly ignored like a lot of that SoC stuff ended up being for awhile.
>>

This is like that one time Shatner wrote a book about captain Kirk coming back to life.

>>
>>54692220
Dude, stop being a child. Archaon's creator didn't write SoC's lore nor did he write the Archaon's novels or the End Times.

-SoC lore was written by Gav Thorpe.
-Archaon's two novels were written by Rob -Sanders a freelance writer.
-"Lord of the End Times" novel was written by Josh Reynolds
-The End Times was mostly written by Matt Ward

Archaon creator developed Chaos. Wrote the essential basic lore about Archaon and then that's it. Stop trying to project your hate an a single figure. That's not what a rational being would do.

>First age was a magical time when elves killed elves, and the dark lord mostly sat around scratching his balls before sending orcs to fuck with people.

Well he sorta was paranoid about getting his shit slapped again after getting messed up by Fingolfin and Thorondor.
The Simarillion says he refused to even meet Hurin in battle and waited until he was weighed down by a mountain of corpses before daring to approach him out of fear he would kill him.
>>
>>54692220
>that Chaos didn't really get many victories

Archaon's Horde had the second highest amount of victories.
>>
>>54692246
He did that? That's hilarious.
>>
>>54692286
I can relate
Dude chopped orcs and monsters until his axe LITERALLY melted in his hands.
If Hurin met Eru that day, Eru would be cut.
>>
>>54692286
Wise move, he has legions of orcs why not use them?
Even if by the end the elves were doing the job for him out of following that stupid oath.
>>
>>54692250
So explain it to me. Or don't.

>>54692258
I don't really find much in me to hate the character. He makes a decent faction leader in TW though, that's pretty neat.
I'll take another (You), please.
>>
>>54692258
I'm not up on 40k, but isn't Ward responsible for something or other recently that is generally considered really weird or silly or something?
Or am I thinking of something else?
>>
Talking of Silmarillion...
Morgoth at the peak of his powers with all his legions and dragons and bigass forstress and Glaurung and Ankalagon and Sauron comes to Warhammer universe.

How well does he fare?
>>
>>54692304
It's pretty impressive when you're a Bad Enough Dude to melt your weapons from overuse in one fight with your bare hands.
>>
>>54692337
He would stomp Chaos and seal warp gates to rule world by himself.
>>
>>54692348
yup
he held off ENTIRE ARMY OF MORGOTH that day, while elves and men escaped

and he was also screaming DAY WILL COME AGAIN all while chopping monsters, and didn't even run out of breath, apparently

Hurin was fucking scary.
>>
>>54692328
No. Ward was re-hired by GW. But we don't what his current title in the company or what he has worked on. Some shitters are speculating that the Ultramarine push was Ward's work but we have no proof of that since GW has long since stopped individually crediting developers in their content, merely just writing in the credit page "X was written by GW studio".
>>
>>54692337
>and a dragon so fuck off massive and strong he broke mountains taller than everest
I don't think it was the war the sunk Beleriand, I think it was this guy.
>>
>>54692354
I mean Ankalagon was like dozen kilometers long, Balrogs do not rely on magic to exist unlike chaos daemons, and there are hundreds of them.
>>
>>54692359
Had a nice hat too, even if he didn't wear it much.
>>54692361
I don't actually know what the Ultramarine push is.
>>
>>54692380
>he broke mountains taller than everest
to be honest, Tangorodrim's description makes it less like mountains and more like factory smoke stacks, which is perfectly in line with Tolkien's view of industry
so while Everest-tall chimneys are still a rather epic thing, breaking them is less of an achievment
>>
>>54692359
No men escaped, they held back the tide while Turgon and his host fled and we're killed to the last.
Hurin himself only lived because Morgoth wanted him alive and so the orcs and trolls came to him without weapons.
>>
>>54692242
The problem with Storm of Chaos was the same one that plagues anyone who tries to make a setting that advances a plot: you end up alienating people because their side loses and the people who win don't actually get much out of it, if your faction of choice even bothered to do anything or had anything interesting written for them.

I mean campaigns are fun when you've got shit that adds a new element to a game like when Albion had people running around with Dark Emmisaries and Truthsayers and Fen Beasts for a summer, but when you try to add too much narrative the whole thing falls apart.

The better approach is to add unique elements to a campaign, treat any outcome as just a potential, and if anything actually stuck out as interesting, add it to the canon as happening in some form, not pushing a particular outcome because someone who likes Chaos ended up in a position of power.
>>
>>54692408
Well nobody would accuse GW of being particularly intelligent.
>>
>>54692408
'Advancing' a setting like Warhammer or 40k is just a mistake in general.
I don't know why people still think it's a good idea.

You can still add more history, more depth and expand the focus without removing possibilities by advancing the timeline.
>>
>>54692397
Yeah they were just massive smoke stacks, like what you'd see in a factory but gone way too far.
>>
>>54692408
Gav wasn't a chaosfag, he was an elffag. He had Teclis destroy an entire army of daemons, including Be'lakor, with one spell.
>>
>>54692292

>>

I utterly and totally disagree. AoS is an advancing setting. It's content is episodic with each instalment advancing the setting and expanding it.

Recently, 40K was changed from a stagnant setting to to an episodic setting like AoS. Guess what? Fans are very approving of the current trend with 40K sales skyrocketting. There is no chocking set timeline, the future is malleable. Each instalment brings tension as known characters die and new characters emerge to replace them, whole portions of the galaxy conquered or lost forever while new realms and empires are built, factions suffer crushing defeats (I am looking at you Tyranids), etc. Infinite possibilities for stories with no limit or borders.

And the fanbase rejoiced!
>>
>>54692470
Be'lakor's entire 6th edition backstory is just a series of losses. He lost to the chaos gods, he lost in Mordheim, he lost in Albion, he lost to Archaon and he lost to Teclis.

>>

This all falls flat when you remember the end of WFB isn't the end - AoS follows after. I know it'd be impossible for Archaon to know that, but it makes his nihilistic attempts to end suffering meaningless. The game still continues, his own victory was merely temporary.
