For those of you who play TWW, you may take interest in this. It's a prospective army list for the Kurgan, similar to how Norsca is about to be added. Mostly made for fun.

I'd post this on /twg/ but I feel like this place is better for stuff like this, and I know Total War is at least tolerated here.

I don't remember what version this is so it may be riddled with typos.

Well shit

Just so i know, are there any retailers i your area that still sell the now out of production warhammer stuff?

I don't have any retailer nor lgs in my area, so i really don't have any way of knowing, but i'm intetested on how the miniature trading scene is holding up

>>
So i found an old gang of 16 6th edition dwarfs n my closet, and this made me think back about making a dwarf army. Thing is 16 warriors are not enough for a unit, so i was wondering, how do they mix with more recent dwarf warriors?

Should I make them quarrelers instead? 16 quarrelers sound like a good number

You should make a Mordheim warband instead, muh dawi. Less minis, more personalisation, cheaper on the budget, more fun on the tabletop.

As far as mixing goes, you can kind of tell but it's not agonizing.

Honestly, I think the market is ripe for a revival of Mordheim with games like X-Wing bringing lots of fresh blood into the hobby. This is HERESY, but I wonder if such a game would do better if pre-painted assembled minis were the norm, or at least an option opposed to the proper assemble-customoze-paint method of us grogs.

I've been thinking what a Albion army would comprise of in Total Warhammer.

Basic troops are differently-armed barbarians; axes, spears then of course the alternate versions of those equipped with shields. Would bowmen fit too for the army to have missile units or are they too primitive?
Now to give them something a little more special when it comes to foot soldiers they would also get a unit type of fast low-defence berserkers, clad in only loincloths & woad while wielding big fuckoff two-hander spiked-shillelaghs/axes, would get extra bonuses on the charge to make them more devastating on the offence but are not so good for extended scrums.

Now a pictish/celtic army needs to have chariots to help flavor it so basically copy those from the Norscans for another unit.

Then you've got your giants of course, one of the primary draws of Albion, who are big melee monsters that can also throw boulders at range. Was thinking maybe should split it up into "young giants" that come in groups of something like three then just your full giant on its own.

Heroes and lords are pretty easy.
You have your chieftiens who are melee heroes than your Druids who are your caster hero.
Above them for the lord choice is your Truthsayer who is a caster that can also decently handle getting into melee.

Also if Truthsayers are in then that opens Fenbeasts, either as another unit type for the army or maybe something the Truthsayer can summon in battle.

Have another unit choice on the back of my mind, something not quite together yet.
Units of mobile skirmishers with the special deployment rules, basically sneaky primitive dudes covered in mud and little else like Arnie from Predator, armed with javelins and able to harass the enemy giving the Albion forces more options.
>>
>>54460837
>Its a mod that adds mini heroes like elf adventurers and dwarfs to be recruitable from the tavern.
That sounds like a really cool mod.

Honestly being able to get units from other civs in your force is a neat gimmick as well.
Makes me desperate for the ACTUAL Regiment of Renown and the Dogs of War to make an appearance.

I want to be able to fight against the greenskins while having a unit of armored crossbow-wielding Orcs at my side.
Or crush the disgusting undead while the Cursed Company's hatred absorbs all their skeletons into itself.

Outside of Truthsayer/Dark Emissary/Fenbeast,the Norscan army seems to have everything an Albion army might: different kinds of lightly armoured barbarians, chariots, giants and Fimir (Kinda. We don't really know what kind of relationship the Albion natives have with the Fimir.)

You could almost mod them in at this point. It's just a shame there's no settlement on Albion and you can't really mod the world map.

Dwarfs dominate in a long range shooting range. The extra 6" firing makes a difference, and their unique skills makes them very hardy and hard to put down - an amazing asset in the meta game.

Skaven with slings is still the king though.

Question: Does anyone else feel shooting is undervalued in Warhammer + subsidiaries because combat happens in both yours and the opponents phases?
>>
>>54461420
IIRC, both 8th fan edition and 9th have some instance of "foot knights" which fill literally the same niche of Squires

the fanmade 8th edition also has Hippo Knights

None of them have Grail Guardians nor Royal Pegasus Knights last I checked

>Question: Does anyone else feel shooting is undervalued in Warhammer + subsidiaries
This is because of the legacy of 6th and 7th edition. In those editions, you didn't destroy your enemy by killing them, but instead by breaking them. The static bonuses to combat res from a rank-and-file unit being in CC in its front rank outweighed the raw killing power of everything save some VERY expensive and difficult-to-use rare-choices. This was an intentional design choice meant to simulate ancient warfare, and is sort of hard to really wrap your brain around if you've only played horde-formation-editions or skirmish-variants (mordheim included.) However, in the era of 6th, this was common knowledge, and sort of carried over into the skirmish-variants where it wasn't necessarily true. So yes, outside of the editions that generated that meme, shooting is indeed undervalued.
>>
>>54461963
There's nothing quite as satisfying as killing a 1/4 of a unit with long range fire and watching it cause a panic cascade in the heart of their formation.

This is true, though before horde-formations and volley-fire changed (and I'd argue simplified) the tactics of the game, only VERY specialized Empire and Dwarf armies could accomplish this, and it was a one trick pony, where if it didn't happen, and the enemy actually DID reach you with their rank-bonuses intact, you were VERY scared.

Again, I think this was kind of cool, like simulating Oda Nobunaga's gunline tactics against angry samurai who are charging your peasants-with-guns, knowing full well that they will slaughter your gunline if they reach it.

However, volley fire and horde formation made this tactic much more reliable, and open to a lot more armies than it was before. The latter, I like, but the former I don't. Everyone should be able to try the tactic, but gunlines are supposed to be a balls-to-the-wall one-trick-pony gambit, because this isn't 40k.

The Dragon Ogres were a declining race of ancients that sold themselves in servitude to Chaos in exchange of immortality. Their servitude would end when the world gets destroyed, according to the deal they struck.

>>
>>54462452
From what I understand, much like the Zoats, they were originally designed to be something totally unique - that might have made them a bit offputting. More than likely, it was due to the fuckup: for some reason they were given the models of a troll-size monster, when they were supposed to be human sized. This made them absolutely horrible on the tabletop.
>>
>>54462212
They aren't a shame. Rick has some interview about them. They tried to make them work but the end result wasn't pleasing for the devs so they shelved them. It's the same with the squats except the squatting.
>>
>>54462851
>they also still had stats for a human-sized unit despite their larger size

Didn't make that clear.
>>
>>54462778
I remember reading in the Van Horstmann book how a reason why the Chaos Gods (or at least Tzeentch) have such an interest in humans is because of how they need to consent on their free to sell their souls to the gods. The Fimir gave up everything, and so the gods lost interest in them and started seeking out new toys. Like how a pickup artist will move heaven and earth to claim a hard-to-get woman, but then moves on to the next hard-to-get once he conquers her.

If I remember right there were creatures in a similar vein where Norse and Celtic peoples met.

While the main roots of the Fimir are Celtic the were places where the Norse Troll myths kinda merged with them I think.

So with lack of a full "Celtic" faction or having Fimir as a tiny independent faction (which would actually be kinda cool from a game perspective just having them non-aggressive and confined to their swamps but heavily defensive), I guess Norsca is the next best place to put them.

Just a shame I presume they are using the "Norse = Full Chaos" character, didn't older Norse fluff have them as mixed with some non-chaotic barbarians and some chaotic ones?

What happened was one of the previous CEOs wanted Warhammer to have a unique monster and he proposed Zoats which were lizardmencentaur things that NOBODY on the creative team liked. They made a bet they could make a more popular beasty which the end result was the Fimir. Technically they won the bet because the Fimir actually got a range that is remembered by people while the Zoats got a small range that is all but forgotten.

As a someone who's wanting to get into somehow playing any tabletop in the Fantasy universe in this day in age, should I look into investing in Mordheim if there are people in my area who play?

It was their owner Bryan Ansell who at the time was rubbing Gerame Davis and Jess Goodwin the wrong way. When he proposed the Zoats, those two basically booed it down and said they could do better.

>>54467467
I don't recall much of Zoat lore or any lore referring to them

>>54467622
You are exactly correct. Bryan Ansell wanted Warhammer to have a distinct monster that when people saw it they would instantly know what it was from. As has been stated he proposed the Zoats to be this monster while the rest of the creative team made the fimir out of spite

My memory is hazy, do any of the factions in Warhammer have the ability to give people prosthetic limbs beyond peg legs and hook hands? Obviously they are all over the place in 40k.

Pretty sure dwarves can manage it, if anyone. There was a Chaos Dwarf sorcerer who made himself essentially an exo-suit in order to move around.

And a long, loooong time ago, there was a priest of Taal that basically made himself a mechanical arm of sorts.

You think Ratlings just take random stabs at each other livers for fun? Like just to test each others reflexes? Like they consider casual or half assed attempts at killing each other as jokes between friends?

Like some ratling gets stabbed while hes not paying attention and he starts laughing and says, "Ahahahah, good one!" because hes just so used to getting randomly shanked and backstabbed.

The idea of backstabbing being a part of life to the point where it's not even something to be afraid of is kind of funny though.

In skaven society the one that got stabbed would immediately be set upon upon by his various rivals due to his weakened state rendering him vulnerable, and it would be justified since he lacked awareness enough to get stabbed in the first place.

Mordheim is fun and not a huge investment in terms of models.
The thing you have to watch out for is that the game plays much better when you have a full table of terrain. And a fully-stocked mordheim table is a daunting prospect for a veteran wargamer, let alone a beginner (it also requires a whole lot of storage space).

I'd recommend some printable cardstock terrain to get you started at least.

>>
>>54468413
Making a styrofoam building is not even that hard. Having ruins with good looking interiors is when it gets a bit more time consuming.
>>
Total War Morathi is the best she's ever looked.
>>
>>54468485
Probably because they're long-lasting for a reason - people will always like things that are both easily recognizable and classic, but kind of unique in their own right. You can't wow people on an entirely original design if it's not something people will really like or get.

And nowadays, so many people are moving away from the 'classic' formula, Warhammer feels almost like a well-made bit of the good ol' days when things made sense.
>>
>>54468485
It is ironic. But with the coming Norsca DLC for Total War Warhammer the Fimir may finally get the recognition the creators had hoped for. And who knows, by now the disdain for Ansell and his ideas should have faded enough that even the Zoats may be brought into the limelight.

I mean I doubt it, but one can hope.

I think that "classic" winning formula will return, but like with everything, things come and go in popularity. unfortunately the switch in gameplay and most importantly, the change in theme of the warhammer world, seems to be what's in vogue currently. I mean look at 40k... the entire game post 8th now is of the same thematic and aesthic look of AOS.

Made for a much younger, crowd who don't get the appeal of the more gothic, grim dark universe of Warhammer O.W and 40k

You need a lot of terrain for both of them to be good.

Frostgrave is a lot more light on the rules and getting miniatures for it is not an issue. Besides your leaders; everyone in the warband is a redshirt without any progression.

Mordheim has much more complex and specific rules, but it also has a lot more character to it than Frostgrave. Most members of the warband can advance with experience. Some of them can even grow into distinct and useful characters with specific quirks.

They kill you when you aren't useful or sacrifice you as a pawn to Witch Hunters to get away, being under Lahmia thumb makes you a target for Von Carsteins and Strigoi. Lahmians also dislike non-humans, so they'll piss off Dwarfs and Elves.

On the other hand they fuck up Chaos, Skaven, other Vampire Bloodlines, and greenskins, so its not entirely bad.

Dwarfs can do it.
High Elves could probably magic one up, although I recall a crippled old general from one of the novels lamenting that he couldn't ride a chariot anymore.
Wood Elves could tree one up.

Skaven could do magitek or replacement limbs. They're like Adeptus Mechanus mixed with Orks.

Because it makes no sense, since his entire motivation after that point is that he feels cheated of kingship. It also devalues every other Phoenix King by basically saying 'they cheated and didn't do it right.' Why didn't anyone tell them they were doing it wrong? How was Malekith supposed to know he was doing it right? As far as I know, all the elves know is that the rightful kings won't be harmed by the flames, while false kings will. Malekith was obviously burned by the fire.

It feels like it was just included for the sudden twist more than anything else, and pulls the rug out from under decades of lore. Imagine if Archaon, instead of getting beat up by Grimgor at the end of the Storm of Chaos campaign, had Be'lakor appear in front of him all smug with the Crown of Domination on his head going 'Sorry Archie, you could've been the REAL Everchosen if you'd just tried to believe in Sigmar a little longer.'

How can I justify someone who is, for all intends and purposes, a commoner, being knighted in Brettonia, *without* having to do something that'd make any kind of Quest for the Grail seem lacklustre by comparison?

>being knighted in Brettonia, *without* having to do something that'd make any kind of Quest for the Grail seem lacklustre by comparison?

Depends on how you want to play it, but here's some ideas.

>A grateful lord knighting a commoner for saving his life.
>A snarky politic lord's daughter gets caught with a commoner, to save face the lord states 'No, I knighted him for - INSERT DEED HERE'.
>Commoner and Squire traveling together, Squire dies and Commoner gets confused for him and is knighted in his stead.
>To raise moral on the verge of a peasant riot, the local lord holds a tourney and promises knighthood for the victor - but it comes with a compulsory quest somewhere far, far away where he won't serve as a beacon for the local peasants as someone to unite behind.

As far as I know, she's never been depicted as particularly curvy. Probably because elfness and setting them apart from humans in how they're all 'perfect' and thin as sticks, but even then, if you had a couple thousand years and several hundred cauldrons of blood to work off the baby fat, you would. No real excuse for it at that point, even if she wasn't actively seducing everyone she needed for her schemes.

Also, petty point, but it's kind of unfair to compare a character that's been around for decades, and one that's not even five years old yet. I know you could probably find fifteen other evil MILF characters with a google search that are far older, but that just makes me feel more firmly that I'm glad that's not the first thing GW sprung for. Not every female character needs HUGE TITS or THICC THIGHS. Variety is spice of life.

As for the lack of porn, I can't explain that. It seems like these days you only get a lot of porn with a boom in internet popularity. It's been hard enough getting decent work for 40k, let alone fantasy.

Could have the Fay Enchantress just knight him, no one can argue with that. Depending on how you do it, it'd be fun and interesting - poor peasant gets knighted out of nowhere and has to scramble to prove himself, when he never asked for it and the nobles hate him for it. There was also a story that came out with the Bretonnia update for Total Warhammer where a peasant gets guided by the Lady to take down a corrupted lord, and earns knighthood in a sense as he has to protect his village after.

There's a bit of fluff about a peasant called Huebald who was briefly knighted, purportedly due to his friendship with the daughter of the Duke of Gisoreux (it's told in-character, and part of the story is debated by another character, so I can't be sure how true it is).

Could probably pull together a scenario where a peasant is declared to have been of a secret/lost line of nobility only recently uncovered in the records of heraldry, or poses as a knight until he's actually knighted by someone higher up who recognizes how cool he is.

Just remember that it's super rare for a peasant to ever be knighted, since it's one of the many ways that the nobles of Bretonnia consider themselves special. It's to the point that I seriously worry about including it in a game or story at all - it's like 'a drow that is good and hates the persecution of the surface world' sort of rare.

Wasn't Aenarion the first and only Phoenix King to successfully go through the flames? Nobody ever contested that because he went through in desperation, without thinking, 100% legit.
It feels like there were always hints that the other Phoenix Kings cheated.
Even in the earlier lore, all we had was Bel-Shannars word that he did go through flames. He just showed up at the council and said "Yeah, I walked through the flames, no biggie. I'm king now" and everyone, including Malekith, believed him.
One of the kings if I remember correctly committed suicide by walking into the fires a second time (only this time without magical protection). Why would the fires kill him if he was the rightful king?
Then there's the Phoenix Guard. Instead of guarding the King, they guarded the Flames. That never made any sense to me. They could've guarded both. It makes sense if they knew the Kings were impostors.
But then, why didn't Aenarion tell Malekith that he was melted first and then rebuilt like a phoenix to prepare him for the eventuality? Maybe he was just a shitty dad.

tl;dr Malekith panicked, world eventually died. Elven gods are insane.

Bleh, I was thinking in terms of actual looks. Don't really see how that's unfair, but whatever.

I just feel like you don't get a lot of characters in her position who have her kind of history. So, something in her appearance should reflect that, even if it's just her hips being wider than most of the other elves.

As for arguing into the wee small hours of the morning, I don't think you've got anything to worry about just yet. Far worse wastes of time have been committed on this site, and at worse times as well.

Oh, of course. I can see a lot of the other nobles seeing this as a mistake and/or grave slight against the very notion of knighthood. And whilst they won't go so far as to say the king is in the wrong, they'll be dismissive at best of the new knightling, and hostile at worst.
>>
>>54475446
>One of the kings if I remember correctly committed suicide by walking into the fires a second time (only this time without magical protection). Why would the fires kill him if he was the rightful king?
Took him like two days to die, though, and he burned silently the entire time.

You'd think that, if it was rejecting him, it'd have been a bit quicker about it.
>>
>>54475446
>Wasn't Aenarion the first and only Phoenix King to successfully go through the flames? Nobody ever contested that because he went through in desperation, without thinking, 100% legit.
Aenarion was in original lore supposed to be the ONLY Phoenix King. Everyone saw him as Asuryan's Doomguy chosen and followed him. After he died, they all shrugged and figured they kept needing a single military leader to unite all ten kingdoms.

The 8e/End Times retcon is the Flames being something other than ceremonial.

>One of the kings if I remember correctly committed suicide by walking into the fires a second time (only this time without magical protection). Why would the fires kill him if he was the rightful king?
The lore outright stated "No being could survive the flames a second time" suggesting he did go through once.
>Then there's the Phoenix Guard. Instead of guarding the King, they guarded the Flames. That never made any sense to me. They could've guarded both. It makes sense if they knew the Kings were impostors.
They don't guard kings, but do appear to give them ceremonial burial. Why would so much importance be placed on honorable burial for traitors?
>But then, why didn't Aenarion tell Malekith that he was melted first and then rebuilt like a phoenix to prepare him for the eventuality? Maybe he was just a shitty dad.
There was never meant to be a second king, Malekith was not his heir. Also yeah, Aenarion post-Widowmaker was shit.

Go full sperg on it.

The local lord is legitimately suffering from Dementia and has just knighted a commoner in the midst of his madness.

It just hasn't been outright discounted because no-one is admitting that the lord is losing his marbles, so they're forced to play along OR go against him and risk war.

It would actually be fun to see the Bretonnian ideas of chivalry strained like that - they want to make sure this guy doesn't succeed, but don't want to outright break their own codes in order to do so (they'd be happy if he was dead, but can't stab him in the back, for instance). So they have to be crafty about getting him stuck in bad situations, causing him to accidentally insult others or shame himself and lose station, draw him into duels and make sure he's the weaker party by getting him drunk or tampering with his gear...maybe as a final bit of dickery they give him a bow and tell him they're going out hunting, and strand him among a group of beastmen without any other weapons - either he dies or he fights using a bow and dishonors himself.

And then you can have a moment where the king or duke is mad near the end because he's found out about what these nobles are doing, and the nobles try to go 'but we didn't have to treat him fairly, he's a peasant.' And you can get a real clear look about how biased the Bretonnian system is, which is all the more fun when it's obvious the nobles are legitimately in the wrong but are refusing to admit it. And there's also the slightly interesting idea of there being contrasts between the nobles themselves, like the duke/king and the treacherous nobles - something I'd appreciate, with how the lore seems to generally portray them as all being essentially good.

It actually makes me a little sad that the lore goes so far to say 'peasants being knighted is near-impossible,' with all you could do with it.
>>
>>54475617
Burning up for two days seems a far greater punishment than burning up quickly though.
What if the fires were so painful he couldn't even scream?

>>54475630
>The lore outright stated "No being could survive the flames a second time" suggesting he did go through once.
He was the only being to ever walk into the fires a second time. I think that saying stems from that fact, not that it was established like a rule before that. Why would he be certain that the flames would kill him? It was never done before. It makes some sense if he cheated the first time and knew the flames would reject him the second time and burn him like they did with Malekith.

>They don't guard kings, but do appear to give them ceremonial burial. Why would so much importance be placed on honorable burial for traitors?
Because they are going along with the charade for the good of Ulthuan? Perhaps Asuryan told them to. If they declined to bury their kings it would definitely raise a few eyebrows.
>>
>>54475755
>Because they are going along with the charade for the good of Ulthuan?

Again, the original lore is the High Elves just decided they'd have Phoenix Kings from then on, and the Flames were ceremonial.
Again, the text on his suicide implies he made it once, it was merely the second time he couldn't take.
>Because they are going along with the charade for the good of Ulthuan? Perhaps Asuryan told them to. If they declined to bury their kings it would definitely raise a few eyebrows.

According to ET lore, that's fucking bullshit. They were traitors that Asuryan made insane because its all that was in his power to do.

The Phoenix Guard appear to bury the king because he is prophesied to die at that time and they are instructed by Asuryan to give him honorable burial.

Literally the only way it makes sense that he sabatoges them and make ones like Caledor II go full-retard and fuck the entire race but also wants to maintain order is if Asyruan is as crazy and arbitrary as Tzeentch.

If the same thing had happened to the Dwarves on that level, there wouldn't be anymore Dwarves left because they would have all killed themselves rather then exist in the shame of collectively knowing the precise flavoring of Sigvald's pencil dick.

All the heroic villain bullshits they were doing in the ET has also been polluting 40k for years now.

Also Nagash, Krell, all the daemons really.

Gonna be real funny for you when Krull is the one that offs Nagash, not anyone from the Empire.

Sir Geg of Wainfleet as a Grail Knight that fights on foot with a lance would be an extremely cool hero.

He'd have a full suit of armor patched together from those of the knights sent to slay him.
Would come with traits that make peasants and pilgrims more badass and harder to break
>>
>>54476856

That would be like Schwarzhelm killing Karl Franz.

Anybody have a copy of this character sheet that doesn't fuck up the layering on the headers when you try to view or print it with anything but adobe reader? This is one of the only 2e sheets I've seen that doesn't look like shit and the fact that I can't print two sided from reader and if I print it using any other viewer it looks all fucked up is activating my autism hard.
>>
>>54476246
The End Times was shit because it was a special character driven narrative and most of the special characters were never more interesting than being archetypes or plot points.

The factions themselves were always the real star of WHFB.
>>
>>54477454
The end time was shit because it destroyed a much beloved fantasy setting and replaced with something that traded its soul for spess mehreens
>>
>>54477719
Just wait, one day they will replace the Storm-mahreens with taller Storm-mahreens

If he got his title from the Fay enchantress, you can be sure most knight will not LIKE it, but will respect this; that's the Fay Enchantress, if she say so, then it is.
>>
>>54478240
How do you fact check something like that?
>>
>>54478240
How often does she do stuff like that, though?
>>
>>54478291
>>54478280
I don't think they are any actual example; I suppose it would be really fucking rare; like a "Kill a Chaos Champion with a stick and stay alive" probability of happening. But would it happen, you can be pretty sure everyone would know of this; and no one would bother trying anything against him, because it would be insulting the fay.

You can't have a Tzeentch mount on a nurgle character and you can't have a magic item more than once.

As a Nurglite I'd probably take something along the line of this setup:

this. I would add 2 more chariots instead of chaos knights

It's very, very, very rare (I think it's only happened 3 times in history), but a commoner can be enobled for an act of incredible heroism or valor. As far as I know a Duke or the King can do this, and presumably so could the Fey Enchantress or maybe a Grail Maiden, since they speak with the authority of the Lady of the Lake.

The one example I can think of where it "stuck" was Repanse d'Lyonesse, and she was promoted directly by the Lady, thereafter saving Bretonnia and being made Duchess of Lyonesse.

WHFB was not gonna last forever. It had to end at some point. It was just a terribly written ending.
>>
>>54475446
Flame of Azunyan a shit
>>
>>54479469
Sure it wasn't going to last forever, but it didn't have to end. Most settings don't have a written up ending.
>>
>>54476168
They're not good at those, either.

The closest GW has to a good bad guy is Vlad von Carstein.
>>
>>54476276
Wulfrik is a Hero in the Greek sense. He's not a good guy, just a magnificent guy.
