After 40k rules were "Sigmarized", will the two systems have a unified ruleset? Some key differences still exist such as shooting in close combat and ranges for melee weapons. And 40k is lacking Rules of One. Will Generals Handbook 2017 sort this out?
>>
>>54386493
We will see a new rules of one in GHB2 so everything is possible but I'm sure we will never see a shared ruleset for both games - there will always be differences
>>
>>54386493
>And 40k is lacking Rules of One
No it isnt

And the two systems are still far too different. As long as AOS uses flat To Wound rolls while 40k uses a S/T comparison they can never be played together

If I want to run 1000 points of Tzeentch daemons, how many units of how many horrors should I run since each pink splits to two blues and each blue to a pair of brimstones? The whole splitting thing along with the great colours and greater daemon and heralds are what attracts me to this army as my first.

>>
>>54389944
40 was what I was planning to do when I run mine. Enough for a hero and a few guys, on average.

I don't know why they suggested 25 renown to start with, considering that quite a few heroes are 24 renown.
>>
>>54390828
GW game-testingâ„¢ I think. They didn't even give a fuck to look at the tables before release and try to build two or three lists for each faction
>>
>>54390826
don't be a gonard, when you split add them to existing units or don't bother. The idea is you charge in with brims and retreat before they get wiped out, then charge in with blues and as they die they refill the brims, then retreat the blues before they are wiped out, then charge with the pinks and refill the blues then retreat before they're wiped out then repeat. If you want to summon a full unit during the hero phase then pay points otherwise just use the method I just described.
>>
>>54390994
Oh, ok. I was thinking of just using them as an annoyance with point holding, but that sounds like a good offensive strategy. Why charge with them though if they have shit melee?
>>
>>54391170
>Why charge with them
to keep the target unit locked in perpetual pointless unwinnable combat while you maintain board control.
>>
>>54391233

What's a better way (in appearance) to do pink horrors?

Duncan:
-white primer
-carroburg crimson wash
-pink horror
-emp children

Duncan blue horror method on pinks:
-white primer
-pink horror
-Druchii violet wash
-pink horror drybrush
-emp children drybrush
-emp children highlight

The first method would look similar to the silver tower horrors in being dark, and might fit more to the model's shape. The latter I'd expect would be brighter. What do you like better?

Maybe use the same method as the nurgle anon from wip threads? White primer, white base and bath your shit in shades

What is a nice starting 500 point Moon Grot army?

I was thinking a Warbos with Squig and Prodder with a core of 40 Night Goblins.

Wasn't too sure as I don't have the General's Handbook handy but from the army builder I gather you need at least two "batallion" units?
>>
>>54396382
Fistly, AoS functions poorly at 500 pts, the minimum the book has requirements for is 1000. Second, it's 2+ battleline, 1-4 leaders, 0-2 artillery, 0-2 behemoths, and any number of other units
>>
>>54396449
Right, I was just going by the Army builder in the OP so didn't know 1k was the minimum recommended.

Sounds good then I will try to see what I can get together with 1k.

Would you know a source of the magic items? I saw some listed in the army builder but I don't have the GHB.
>>
Is it better to run gryphon hounds in units of 3 so one per unit can get extra attacks, or should they all be in units of 1?
>>
>>54396568
For your army you can choose between six.
1. Meteoritic hammerblade. Pick one melee weapon the bearer can use (Not a mount's weapon) instead of attacking normally with that weapon they can smash the hammer into the ground. If they do roll a dice for each model (Friend or foe) within 3", on a 5+ the unit that model is from suffers a mortal wound
2. Talisman of protection. Roll a dice each time this model suffers a mortal wound, on a 4+ that wound is ignored
3. Gem of seeing. In your hero phase, pick an enemy unit within a foot of this model, add 1 to all ht rolls made by this model against the chosen unit until your next hero phase
4. Blade of vituperation. reroll one failed wound roll for this model, per enemy hero within a foot
5.Collar of Domination. At the start of the enemy movement phase, pick a monster within 3" of this model, then roll two dice and add them together, if the totals higher than the target monster's bravery, then it MUST make a retreat move instead of any other movement.
6. Battle Brew. In any hero phases, the holder can take 0, 1, or 2 swigs of the brew. If they take 0, nothing happens, if they take 1, add 1 to all hit and wound rolls for the drinker until your next hero phase, if they take two, add 2 to all hit and wound rolls for the model till your next hero phase, but for every future hero phase, the model takes 1 mortal wound. The brew does not run out

Magic items are one per hero and you only get 1, plus an extra for each battalion you have in play

>>
>>54402167
Campaign supplement. You choose a Hero, who then gives you a certain allotment of units.

Bigger/more expensive characters get fewer starting units. After playing a game you can buy a new unit, or upgrade a hero or unit.

By winning games you win Glory points. First player to reach a certain preset amount wins the campaign. Glory point can also be used to buy units, upgrades, etc.

I'm hoping magic will be made a bit more interesting. Modify the Rule of One for magic so that you can attempt to cast a spell more than once per Hero phase, but it can only be used to buff once per unit. I'm also hoping for a small pool of spells per grand alliance.

I'd also like to see some point drops for some elf units, since a few of them seem to be a little overpriced.

Honestly a Skaven allegiance is one of the things I've been wanting the most. Hopefully this means we're also going to be getting a Battletome: Skaven at some point as well, which would be great.

I bought "Skirmish" some days ago and I'm pretty hyped to build a mini-army with a Wight King with Black Axe, 5 Black Knights and 20 old ass skeleton warriors I bought 11 years ago, my very first miniatures. (pick related)

I'm not even re-painting them better, just adding some rust effects and verdigri

Old player out of the hobby since the end times with some questions here if anyone is willing to answer.
It seemed like some of the factions released came as a surprise(sky dorfs) so does that mean there is little to no lore/information on what could be released in the future? I mean except for the obvious like shadow elfs or whatever. I'm just wondering if there is something new to look forward to.
Are the "vintage" armies underpowered in comparison to the new armies, and would you say there is power creep even among the newer armies?

rules will probably get updated to an improved version of 8th after they get enough public testing out of in in 40k. More armies are inevitable.
>>
>>54411019
Ive actually been working on a S/T system for AOS for about two weeks

I started with the AOS starter box, eventually moved on to the start collecting boxes, and now I'm fleshing out the rest of the updated armies. Eventually I'll try applying it to compendium stuff as well.

One of the conclusions I've drawn is that a S/T system will be inherently broken and impossible to balance unless AOS moves to a system where damage does not spill over. However, this means rebalancing every facet of the game. The entire game would need to be rebalanced, starting with an overhaul to every single warscroll. It is a monumental effort - basically like creating a new game.

It's a fun side project, but I'm a video game designer so I guess I've got a weird brain
>>
>>54411122
>yes, there is stuff to look forward to in the future and yes we do not know what it is.
Well that is optimistic, I mean I just wish I knew something.
>yes they are underpowered and yes there is powercreep even among the newer armies
Fug
>>54411146
I wouldn't say that is anything unusual to do for half the people on this board. I'd have fun doing that.
> It is a monumental effort - basically like creating a new game.
I really hope they do go this far if/when it happens. I need them to. I want to like this game/franchise. It can still have a system like that while maintaining a low page number of rules. 40K is 12 pages now.
>>
>>54411146

No they were revealed a month before release. And only because It was Warhammer Fest. Which also tease Shadespire and Death Guard. I don't think they would release new faction before Shadespire. At my store, most of the players are 20-somethings, and it's a pretty even distribution between AoS and 40k. The youngest players we have only play 40k, but that may just be because they can't afford two armies.

>>
>>54426862
The ships were the Old Ones, not the Slaans or the Lizardmen. Why would they have anything that would be suitable for the Lizardmen that were created on the world from genetic material already present on the world?
>>
>>54425376
We already knew this when the Slann let a horde of Bastiladons(I think it was bastiladons) go free to roam the realms after he was done using them.

Through it's nice to get a clarification like this. Means people can make more of their dudes without the Slann being there.
>>
>>54426704
Because they all died. Slann lived because they were so ANGERERY AND EMO. Seraphon are just Grey Knights. Which is cool; but they're back to being jobbers and non-protags.

But you want the real reason? Writers weren't given anything other than 'they have to survive somehow'. They're never told what to write exactly. They get given a checklist of shit to cover and then write everything in between. So when Josh Reynolds made Lizardmen escape; chances are he never knew they'd be killed off and then replaced by Daemons of Order.

Ultimately the only reason I'm upset with the change is that Slann have no reason to build Temple Cities. In WHFB, Temple Cities were on Geomantric Webs, meaning they could do shit better in a Temple City. Now? Now they're literally the most powerful wizards in existence (until GW brings Elves back), though not in crunch, sadly. Nagash is the only wizard more powerful and that's cause he's a God. So no need for a temple city, no way for me to justify building my Temple City again.
>>
>>54426937
That's bollocks. Total bollocks. Why? Because Slann can literally make Dracothion dance in their crunch. When Dracothion tells a Slann to do something the Slann tells him to fuck off and let him decide when to do it. Dracothion is not Sotek. Otherwise Sotek gives more of a shit about humans than Seraphon.
>>
>>54426968
No, Seraphon are mary sues. Name a battle where they jobbed hard. You can't.
>>
When are Games Workshop going to let this meme game die?
>>
>>54426994
The Slaan doesn't tell him to fuck off. When Dragonbro sends his warning, the Slaan mentally notes that he already knows this (and then gets killed by Khul).

The Seraphon honour Dragonbro by waving around his totem and drawing upon his star alignment. Also in one of the novels, the Seras are referred to as the servants of the Cosmic Serpent. Which I believe is one of the names if Dragonbro.
>>
>>54427006
Call of Chaos: Godless.
Skaven: Pestiliens. Sigmarines won it basically.
>>
>>54427070
He doesn't. He says that he'll attack when he decides it and doesn't need Dracothion telling him when to do it. As for the other bit, crunch literally says that the Slann control the alignments and can make Dracothion writhe in the cosmos.

It's total bollocks. People liked the Old Ones. and suddenly making it this fucking star dragon is just going to piss them off. Seraphon are the only faction without a mythical God that's actually walking about. Dracothion would be fucking shit if he was suddenly Sotek. Especially when people thought he was a giant snake deity, not a dragon.

But finally, if he IS Sotek, then he doesn't give a shit about Seraphon. He saved Sigmar and friends, he allowed quick production of Sigmarines, he sped up the production of the Extremis Chambers, he gave them his sons and daughters (Stardrakes and Dracoths) and so on. What has he given Seraphon? Furthermore, why didn't he go "Oh yeah, I'm Sotek guys!" to Seraphon? Especially when he could read their minds and talk telepathically.

Just my opinion, but there we go.

>What has he given Seraphon?
He guided them to the mortal realms during the age of myth

We have only seen the very beginning of the Seraphon story in AOS, nothing more than a simple prologue. They have a close relationship with Dracothion, and we have seen what it can do for the Stormcast, so let's wait and see how it develops for the Seraphon.
>>
>>54426168
Thing is, the Mortal realms are so absurdly huge, it's not impossible that the remnants of natural Lizardmen still exist.

Some lore autist is probably going to angrily jizz all over me for saying that, though.
>>
>>54427355
Not a God. Nowhere near the level of Nagash. He might not be killable, but he's not a God. Sylvaneth and Undead are the other factions with their God's actually with rules. The rest have God's somewhere. Kroak is more equiv to Gordrakk or Archaon. Powerful; but not a God.
>>
>>54427438
Beastclaw specifically worship Gorkamorka. It literally says so in their fluff. While I agree Seraphon have had next to no fluff (which sucks fucking ass), I hope they don't go down that route. I liked the idea of Old Ones coming back. Dracothion being Sotek I can just about accept if he isn't an Old One, but a near-god level creature that heard all the worshipping that Lizardmen did and sent some help. If it was Sotek, surely the Skaven would be trying to kill him? We know God Beasts can die, so why aren't they making a super ultra plague to kill him?

>>54427439
For all intents and purposes they are the same thing. They 'live' once summoned and so on. Like the Slann created thousands of Stegadons and then just left them to live as normal. So it's possible, I guess. I mean it could just be Lizardmen, as in a race of Lizardmen. Josh Reynolds said that Kroak sent huge chunks of Lustria into space, so it's possible they were still on there and survived and then merged with the Mortal Realms.

>lore autist

What's wrong with sticking to lore?
>>
>>54427438
Corrections....

>Beastclaw are just mercenaries and pillagers, they dont care about gods

These guys are loyal to Gorkamorka.

>Flesheaters dont give a shit about Nagash

Some not all. The are divided between revering Nagash and fearing/hating him.
>>
>>54427453
>Nowhere near the level of Nagash.

Says who? Nagash was defeated numerous times by Archaon who him isn't a god.
>>
>>54427616
If we go purely on crunch, Kroak can do 4 spells per turn and Nagash can do 9. In terms of fluff? Nagash was able to solo an entire Stormhost Chamber. Him getting defeated by Archaon is not strange because Archaon is the main villain and is buffed by 4 Gods. Kroak literally only appears once in any fluff piece where he kills some Nurgle forces, despite the Seraphon he summoned getting ripped to shreds before he appears and nukes the site from orbit.

I dunno lad. I seriously doubt if Kroak fought Nagash that Kroak would win. Nagash is Lord of Death. Kroak is just some Slann. If he was alive? Sure. I guess. Maybe. Just my opinion lad.

Some tribes are mercenaries that worship chaos gods, or at least fight for them and slowly turn to chaos worship. There are known beastclaw tribes that fight under archaons banner.

Beastclaw are primarily concerned with looting and pillaging so they don't get caught by the everwinter. They are far less concerned with gods than their next meal.

Dracothion isnt a God Beast. He is something beyond mortal understanding. His body is formed of constellations. He rivals the gods themselves in terms of power.

>Some tribes are mercenaries that worship chaos gods, or at least fight for them and slowly turn to chaos worship. There are known beastclaw tribes that fight under archaons banner.

The Vintrbad (Winterbad, really) do not worship Chaos and are not loyal to Archaon. The timeline section says they wear Chaos symbols and looted Chaos armour to disguise their true allegiance to Gorkamorka.

He isn't? Pretty sure it was stated he was the greatest of the God Beasts. I honestly can't remember and the usual places online are basically devoid of information sadly. I wouldn't say that he is a rival for Gods because he got his ass kicked by the Chaos God Beast Drake thing.

I'm still working on mine, but the details I have are,

>Stormhost formed from the survivors of a Strike Chamber that was overwhelmed by an unexpected temporary alliance between Chaos and Destruction forces.
>Survivors were unable to return to Azyrheim for a considerable amount of time and made coalitions with the locals to establish a fighting force for Order (and some numbers to protect themselves with) in the region until they could re-establish contact.
>Managed to avenge their fallen brothers and sisters, whom they were unable to reclaim the souls of, by waging war on the now-split Chaos/Destruction alliance.
>Recognized for their stalwart heroism, they were granted the rights to form their own Stormhost with the local soldiers as their first wave of recruits.
>Due to their experience with guerilla-esque survival, a large portion of their Stormhost consists of Vanguard Auxiliary.

I'd like to link them to Lileath somehow. I know she ded, but maybe her spirit lives on in some way, or their now-Lord Commander obtained a sword created/blessed by her, aware of it or not.

May also toss in an alliance with Dracoths being partly what saves them, since I really like the lore behind Dracothion and his children.

>>
>>54439308
A mix of old and new parts, but yes, I have a fair few of them. Just trying to model them like docksmen, sailors, captains etc like the illustrations from 'blood on the reik'. Needs more harpoons, nets and fish.
>>
So I'm thinking of just sucking up that WHF is dead and trying out AoS. Are the legacy factions (dark elves, warriors of chaos etc) disadvantaged against the new AoS factions like Stormcast? Or is everything sort of balanced against each other?
>>
>>54439495
Some factions are a little unbalanced, but it is alway important to talk to your opponent before the game, and maybe ask them if they can not take many OP units/formations, or if you get to re-roll a dice or something for a group of guys, etc. what I am trying to say is; Communication is important
>>
>>54439707
Don't units have points now? Shouldn't the points system negate me having to negotiate with my opponent this sort of stuff?
>>
>>54439732
Show me a game with points systems that is balanced, and I will show you an idiot.

All games have points, and all have a semblance of balance, but none are evenly balanced. For tournaments, the discussion with your opponent is irrelevant because likely the guy accross the table is going to try bringing the most unbalanced thing possible because he's trying to win. When playing casual games though, most of the time setting a precedence that it's a casual game is enough. You will both be bringing what seems fun and have a good time on the table.

Basically AoS is no different from ANY game with points, in that there are armies that perform poorly in optimized tournament scenes.

So yes, some of the old factions arent too hot, but some are also really good. But that will likely change with the GHB2 coming out and an update to points on everything based on TO feedback of prevalent metas.

The point I am trying to make: just play the game how you like, your armies' competitiveness is going to have its highs and lows throughout the life of the game.
>>
>>54439495
right now the newer stuff is a safer bet competitively than the older stuff, but thats just because they are newer, and the trend generally is newer stuff gets better rules and points than old stuff

but we are getting a big points update for everything at once with the ghb2017, and we will see if gw will either listen to people and knock down the points effectiveness of newer stuff while boosting the older stuff in an attempt to make a semibalanced meta, or if gw will continue the rapetrain in hoping poeple will forget that old stuff ever was a thing and keep new stuff on the top of the meta

i.e. with option one, they will be listening to tournament organizers and player feedback
or with option two they will be listening to their markerting department

we shall see though
>>
>>54439732
Old factions have been splintered into tiny ones, and as such, may not always synergize as well as new factions that were designed from ground up to work within the system together. It's just a fact of life. Do remember that the game is objective based, so you can just focus on that and negate the lack of killing power to a degree.
>>
So who is picking up Path of Glory this weekend?
>>
>>54440534
They do synergize well within each faction though. Very easy to run a powerful freeguild gunline with most of the buffs coming from within the faction (barring a hurricanum).

While the fleet covers most bases of income - indulging in aether-mining, trading, transportation/smuggling, the raiding party is responsible for "obtaining" supplies needed to keep the fleet away from port.

They target small towns and travelling traders to fill their ships pantry, and liberate anything of value so they can finally be traded at a fair price.

I already have 25 old ass skeletons and just bought a Wigh King with Black Axe

I'll probably get the Start Colecting Deathrattle box, the goal is to make the Legion of Death (pic related)

My question is, what Mortarch should I make?

Arkhan looks like a really powerfull mage for a summoning based army, but mediocre in melee
(With him would be a pure skeletons army, but that's just a minor gimmick I don't really care for)

Neferatta has some cool spels, but she is heavily foccuseed on melee (and the hability to make vampires can be fun)

well, as with all heroes that have a powerful buff, you need to bubble wrap him properly. Obviously Vandus is not going to come out on top of every match up so its on you to be strategic. If properly utilized, his command ability can turn a game in your direction, and that is part of what is driving his points cost.

He's a sidegrade, mostly. His Command Ability is obviously aces and so is his bravery aura, but you pay for that with the lack of a shield, no access to relics, traits and mount skills. Plus the actually increased cost, I mean. Somewhat increased melee damage offsets that a little, but the loss of Staunch Defender and such hurts.
Plus, you're obviously locked into a sub-par stormhost with him.

Heldensen and a Tempestos Hammer with Relic Blade has exactly the same average values.
Calanax has one more attack, but with Keen-Clawed the Intolerable Damage of the generic Dracoth is resolved at Rend-3.
Calanax does an average of 1.926 damage per turn against 4+ saves.
Generic does an average of 1.8333 damage per turn against 4+ saves.

Did you include the various gear bits? Because the Relic Blade makes Vandus' hammer exactly the same as the normal tempestos. Well, mechanically, I mean, at Damage 3 vs Damage d3+1.

Doesn't Calanax get +1 attack from the command ability?
