Death Guard.
>>
>>54257046
Literally every loyalist Space Marines chapter has a good reason to be fighting alongside the Guard. X threatens the Imperium. The Imperial Guard is dispatched to fight it. A chapter of Space Marines, of its own accord, decides that this fight matters more than the others and dispatches a bunch of Marines to help. The end.

It looks like GKs are not getting upgrades anytime soon. Voldus seems to be the same size, we probably could expect some HQ release along with the codex, but I guess that's it. Move Celestine, the Dominions and the Seraphim into an Outrider Detachment

Drop Inferno Pistols on the Seraphim, and then either drop two Seraphim or take away the P Mauls and S Bolters on the Sister Supriors in the troops slots. Then add another Canoness with the points you just dropped to make it a legal Battalion.

DREADNOUGHTS

>What single unit do you think was improved the most
Again dreadnoughts alongside most vehicles

8th edition was a real blessing for my dreadnought heavy army, they soak up large amounts of firepower and can really bring the pain with the new damage system for heavy weapons along with their close combat weapons hitting like a freight train. Not going to miss 7th, where anything stronger than a mean look would cause them to suddenly explode before they could do anything.

You apparently don't understand how the Walmart.com system works, its alright I have to explain it to assholes every day while working part time IN HELL to get through college. That is from a third party seller. Walmart does not sell that in store, it can only be purchased through Walmart.com. You can either have it shipped to your home or through the Site to Store. As it is a third party item if you wish to return it you will go through literal hell as Walmart wants nothing to do with it and the other company doesn't care because they can just try to blame Walmart.
>>
>>54257721
Yep.
The traditional 5 girl squad with Heavy flamer, Flamer and combi-flamer is way too expensive.

Storm Bolter on the other hand are so cheap that allow you have 4 girl squad with SB instead of 3 with Flamers.

Since flamers have 8" and can be dick over in overwatch by anyone that isn't brain dead, SB seem to be better by simply being more reliable than flamers

Oh and on a related note:

Imagine my surprise when I ordered a FW grey knight dread on eBay for $65 and when I opened the box today out came two of them.

I went back, checked the item description for the listing and it was indeed for the pair the entire time.

As far as I can tell they're genuine, plus they each have two auto cannon arms.

Unfortunately I don't have the time or money to 'add/remove' models. I have no HF and have tons of F and SB.

Should I be running Storm Bolters in 5 sister squads or 4 SB in Dominion Squads? I have 8 SB, 7 flamers, 2 melta, 1 multi-melta...unless I miss counted somewhere.

How should I be running those figures?
>>
How would you kit out Fallen?

Thinking 6 man squad with 5x Plasma Guns or 4x Combi-plas 1x Plasma.
Just not sure how to kit out the Champ.
>>
>>54257895
Dominions still work fine by spamming meltas while riding their Repressor.

Giving Dominion Flamers or SB kind of defeat the purpose of the fast moving unit.
>>
>>54257892
Maybe...?
>>
>>54257818
Thanks for the comparison my man. To be fair, it's not as larger as I was expecting. The venerable dread heads are a little larger than their Marine counterparts and that head isn't that much more out of scale than they are. Harakoni Warhawk grav insertion.jpg
309KB, 1208x1804px
I'm looking to start a 2nd army for 8th. Doesn't have to be competitive, just cool. I was trying to think of a way to represent Harakoni Warhawks on the table and anon suggested both Elysians and Scions. How's this look for 1k?

Sorry if it's illegal in some way lel, I'm still trying to get used to the 8E rules

1000 points Harakoni Warhawks
Vanguard Detachment - Elysians
HQ:
>Company Commander (40) - Krak Grenade, Laspistol
Elites:
>Drop Sentinel (56) - Heavy Bolter, Hunter-Killer Missile
>Drop Sentinel (56) - Heavy Bolter, Hunter-Killer Missile
>Veteran Squad (124) - Sergeant, 5 lasgun Vets, Heavy Flamer vet, 3x Meltagun Vet
>Veteran Squad (108) - Sergeant, 5 lasgun Vets, Heavy Flamer vet, 3x Plasma Gun Vet
Flyers:
>Valkyrie (176) - Hellstrike Missiles, Multi-Laser, 2x Heavy Bolter
>Valkyrie (160) - Hellstrike Missiles, Multi-Laser

Astra Militarum Battalion Detachment
HQ:
>Tempestor Prime (40) - Chainsword, Command Rod
>Tempestor Prime (40) - Chainsword, Command Rod
Troops:
>Scions (66) - Tempestor w/ Plasma Pistol, 2x Plasma Gun, 2x Hot-shot Lasgun
>Scions (66) - Tempestor w/ Plasma Pistol, 2x Plasma Gun, 2x Hot-shot Lasgun
>Scions (66) - Tempestor w/ Plasma Pistol, 2x Plasma Gun, 2x Hot-shot Lasgun

So basically the Scions would all deepstrike, the Vet squads take Valkyries, and the Sentinels either DS or Scout depending on what's happening (Scout representing that they already landed and launched flares for everyone or whatever). Models would be converted probably by combining regular Guard with the FW Cadian respirator heads and Elysian grav chutes.
>>
So the GW Facebook page wasn't lying about how you should buy them the new tanks to transport them around in

I feel like that's been a theme with the Primaris stuff. Maybe GW was scarred people would get overly butt-hurt if they made Primaris OP so they held back, maybe too much, with their rules. The only really strong Primaris thing are the Hellblasters and that's just because the weapon they all have is really strong this edition.
>>
>>54257951

Walmart mainly sells cheap shit. Vallejo might just be a bit too expensive for Walmart's cheap shit offerings. Ultimetly shelf space is limited in a store, so what they sell is Delta Ceramcoat Acrylics.

One of the reasons to buy Vallejo/GW/Army Painter paints is because they have a large catalog of paints for sale in many different colors, but is there anything so bad about Delta creamcoat that makes it inferior to those previously mentioned brands in the colors DC offers?

Rules question.

"My will be done" from necrons HQ adds +1 to hit rolls.

If used on immortals with tesla carbines. Would that mean the effect goes off on a 5 or better? Since if you rolled a 5, plus the 1 would make it 6?

if you're bases are becoming a problem with LOS there might be too much going on with them. Sometimes something simple can be more effective at bringing out the design of the mini than something extremely elaborate. It's like the difference between the old Archaon model of him on the horse and the new one of him on the enormous, over-designed demon thing that takes up a shit ton of space.

Melta bombs are fusion charges designed to burn through an armoured hull in a matter
of seconds.
Shooting
Melta bombs are cumbersome devices. Melta bombs cannot be used to make a shooting
attack.
Assault
Unless used in assaults against vehicles, gun emplacements or Monstrous Creatures,
melta bombs have no effect. When used in assaults against vehicles, buildings, gun
emplacements or Monstrous Creatures, melta bombs have the following profile:

I think I'd rather have the Assault 2 gun, it makes him more versatile. As Space Marines, you're going to want to take advantage of your mobility and sitting back plinking away 1 shot per turn really doesn't do much.
The hell blasters will still get the re-roll but now the Captain has a reason to move and he can mix it up in combat too.
>>

I'm sure the new grav-tank will either be a transport, or have a transport version, and will probably just be Primaris only, other than that no idea.

Agree with the assault thing though. 2 attacks each on standard infantry, and +1 over standard on all characters, and yet then they give everyone but 1 of the Lieutenants, the Captains, and the Libby pretty much just ranged weapons.

I think every version of the Space Marine power armor looks at least decent. Mk7 is my least favorite, though. Corvus looks the best.

GK's look amazing, but I hate the chaos models. They're too overdesigned and the added spikes just look stupid. If I ever play chaos I'll take some 30k models and play as that, because I can't stand the chaos models otherwise. (Not counting Renegades, their models actually look interesting.)

Killa Kanz are okay, but not great. They hit on 5+ in melee now, which is kinda rubbish.

Wrong. It says "re-roll a dice roll, which means you can re-roll some or all of the dice again".

Ere We Go says you can re-roll charge rolls, which means you can re-roll some or all of the dice rolled for that charge roll (total 2), meaning one or both.

Wrong.

A charge roll is 2 dice. If you want to re-roll a charge roll you must re-roll both. It doesn't say pick the highest, it says re-roll, therefore both.

>>54261056

>>
>>54261072
Half correct. You can only use each stratagem once per phase.
>>
>>54261059

it's a bunch of fuckups from other chapters who get sent to deathwatch but they get to keep a homage to what chapter they originated from

The core rules define "re-rolling a dice roll" as "re-rolling some or all of the dice".

Because the indexes are temporary measures and are going to be obsoleted soon.

Expect all the existing Space Marine stuff to get worse and be balanced in line with the Primaris stuff.
>>
>>54261161
Both actually.

Astartes are often "volunteered" for the Deathwatch by their Chapter as punishment/penance for some cockup.

The idea is that service in the DW either hardens them up or kills them off.

At the same time, Chapters also lend some of their best marines at times to the DW as a matter of honor and a way of paying homage to the Inquisition and DW tradition.

either way, death in the service of DW is honorably no matter how or why you ended up there, and completion of a service term in the DW earns you a huge amount of respect(and redemption if you were sent to them for cocking up).

Cruddace is probably at the helm, without Matt Ward to suggest "hey wouldn't it be cool if" ideas. On one hand, you won't get Deep Striking Land Raiders but on the other hand you won't get actual options.

If Reivers were supposed to be disruption, they should have been:
Your opponent cannot use Stratagems on any of his units within 3" of your Reivers. (meaning no "breaking" your charge with a counter-attack, auto passing Battleshock, or getting save rerolls).

Bam, you have an actual disruption/assassin unit, with only one rule. Add the choice to withdraw at the end of a given fight subphase, and they become scary-good.

Communist in that its a single party totalitarian dictatorship with a 'market' economy. Basically in no philosophical or actual way communist and no longer second world.

Yeah but their foreign cash reserves are currently being burnt to the ground since they wildly over leveraged in zero return construction projects during the boom of the last decade and and they can't seem to make the transition to a consumer economy so their debt catching up to them. Also, they spend barely anything on social services so their standard of living is still significantly below most developed countries.

No such thing as retirement for marines, but Bad Company is entirely in keeping with the new lore. So instead, in order to keep up appearances, they send the fuckups, and claim them to be the best. They cite the increasing desperation of their fights as a sign that anyone better either has died or is needed in leadership positions, and hey, they're not wrong.

>you're forgetting that while Europe was reforming and improving over those 300 years, China spent the last THOUSAND years stagnating utterly.

China was economically superior to the European subcontinent for most of history. Europe didn't produce more steel until partway into the British empire. They started to stagnate when they closed off trade and cultural exchange with the Canton system in the 1700s which caused them to largely miss the industrial revolution which, as massive historical changes go, happened incredibly fast and leaves anyone not doing it in the dust.

European superiority is pretty overstated, for most of its history it was kind of a garbage place to live and only had the most advanced human populations during Greek (arguably but probably not in actuality) and post industrial times.

And, when all is said and done, it's the chapter I am most interested in having, and I'm only getting into Space Marines if they're mostly Primaris anyhow. Unless another chapter just blows my mind or I think of one of my own, but I've always liked the simple, straight forward look of the Sharks.

Hes literally going to write a novel to explain away Carcharadons fielding Primaris types, which will mostly likely involve some kind of hijacking of kidnapping. Guilliman wouldn't give Primaris types to the Carcharadons if he found out about their shady crusade, though.

I know you may have a LGS swimming with half a dozen Space Shark players, but I've never had the pleasure of seeing a painted Shark force in person. They were always just this odd little chapter that caught my eye back in the 2nd ed days, but nothing ever pushed me to start a Space Marine army.
>>
I have a bunch of old Deathwing Knights and Terminators that I painted really shittily back in the day and so they stick out a lot compared to the rest of my forces. How should I go about fixing that? Should I replace them entirely or should I try to repaint them?

The dark ages weren't even a fucking thing, you are a shit historian. History happens outside of the mudhole of early Europe.
>>
>>54261765
If 8th ed gets to be a real living ruleset, I kinda just see old marines getting dropped from later codexes. They'll still be "legal" for a long time, but rules just won't get updated, and eventually the general power creep will render them not worth the points in comparison to Primaris. Not by a lot, but just enough to where taking them is more a novelty than a tactical advantage.

Maybe? But the kits are snap fit at the moment so primaris with options means totally new sprues, wouldn't expect them to replace new kits for a few years at least. I think it's a bid to make it easier to digest for younger players . Kit is easy to assemble , lists are easier to make with PL and no weapon options , rules quick to decipher. But then again when I was 12 it was fun thinking about different army builds , maybe kids are stupider now ?

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if GW pulls a fast one and releases Codex Astartes - with only manlet marines.

Historians haven't used "Dark Ages" in serious literature for decades because it wasn't a fucking thing. It's wildly eurocentric during a time period when things like modern medicine and mathematics were being developed elsewhere and it ignores the fact that average lifespan of a european went UP rather than down during the feudal rule of the much smaller european states.

But you're probably some braindead stormfag who has gotten most of his history out of a coloring book so I don't suspect you'd actually have any knowledge of non-pop history.
>>
>>54261893
I'd feel bad about that, but then old Marine players would finally know what nearly ever other army feels like to not be the favorite faction.

Anyway, if worse came to worse, I doubt anyone is going to beat you up for fielding normal Marines and calling them Primaris. They're only a bit bigger, and I know there are people who have been playing for decades who aren't going to want to entirely replace their army.

But alas, the immature people screeched the loudest, and now 40k is no longer a setting but a story that is only painting itself further and further into a corner.
With stories you want to end at the right time, or else the story will jump the shark and become a parody of itself in an effort to keep people interested. Turning a setting into a story is a good way of making sure it's gonna die somewhere in the future.

I've been around this setting since the dawn of 2nd ed, it's change a lot over the years. As kids came in and took it more serious year after year, the whole feel of the setting changed. Is that good? Bad? Who cares. We keep what we like about the setting, and let the next generation of players deal with the rest. It's not that fucking important if Marines are a bit tougher and taller, it's just an excuse to put out new minis which some people DO like, no matter how you personally feel. You never have to change your marines if you don't want to, but don't act like it's the end of the world. Wait are we going to have another discussion about the merits of nazi tanks vs american tanks vs russian tanks? How shermans were deathboxes meant to support infantry, panzers functioned purely on the power of positive thinking, and soviet tanks, assuming they even had ammo and fuel, only functioned at a rate of 1 in every 50?

or the hypothetical government response to an alien ship in orbit with earth strike capabilities? How the government would simply capitulate and give them whatever they asked for, or tell them to fuck off because with so few numbers and a weapon of such power the aliens only options are fucking off and complete planetary annihilation thanks to the inevitable breakdown of social order if they fired their weapons even once?

or the nuclear doctrine of america during WW2 as it relates to japanese aggression and war atrocities? Where america was just going to sit back and sling nukes at japan until they gave up and japan knew it, or that the bombs were part of a combined arms campaign that would culminate with a land war in a radioactive japan?

No, because by basically every military document recorded shermans had the best survival rates of crew and performed better against german tanks than T34's by dramatic degrees. They outperformed panthers by most metrics, though its hard to say how much of that is the better American tanker training at that point in the war. But instead we get a story that makes it clear any tech priest with enough spare time can do anything the Emperor did way better, Guilliman doing a Great Crusade 2.0 and blatant obvious hints that marines are now obsolete.
