Why would they not be wary of bigger goblinoids? Goblinoids are utter bastards when they're small, making them bigger just makes things worse.

Not soon enough. I guess it's not that bad, though. I'm just grumpy about it because I'm not keeping up with Starfinder, probably.

>>54234627
Yes, absolutely yes. Slaves is one possibility, food is another. There is no honor among thieves and even less among goblinoids.

Also... Am I the only one that things of goblins as coming in several colors, kind of like kobolds? Red, green, yellow, even the occasional cyan... Maybe it's because I use to read that crappy Goblins webcomic.

Alright, sure, but I STILL want to talk about goblins, damn it. Could different colors indicate adaptations to different environments, ala white "snow goblins" and green "forest goblins" and red "cave goblins"? Or do you think it'd be better if it represented some kind of hierarchy, like red goblins are stronger than white goblins are stronger than green goblins?

>>
>>54234945
>restrictive rules
I mean, the point buy is on the low end and it's a low level start, but I don't see how that's supposed to be "restrictive rules" unless you're so completely addicted to PoW that you can't consider playing without it. The only restriction is basically "you can't start as a lv3 wizard", if I read it correctly.
>>
>>54235001
I thought it was "you can't play as a level 3 wizard period." You can only take two levels of Wiz.
>>
With so many options in Pathfinder released today do you guys think we are burdened by choice? Or do you guys think that because people mostly want to be optimized, we are just provided "false" choices?
>>
>>54235179
The latter. Once you know how to navigate the minefield that is pathfinder, you realize that there's not too many actual options. Most options just add a different flavor to the same die rolls.
>>
>>54235179

I'm honestly surprise at how many options from the early books are so insanely strong. I find my characters just never have room for weird stuff.
>>
>>54235177
>>54235001
Going through the app rules, I realize this was worded confusingly. I've changed it to "cannot START at a level..." etc.
>>
>>54235179
Inflation is a thing and most of the feats are too situational or there just for flavor so you never see them in action. Consider the Swordlord for one: If there's ever anything to do with Brevoy at high level there will be swordlords all over the place, but you will never see it outside of that except for a very VERY specific build or with a player who takes fluff always over mechanical superiority. You know, nobody who frequents /pfg/.
>>
Is Linnorm game even still a possibility now? Was he just playing with our hearts?
>>
>>54235250
>Consider the Swordlord for one
>a very VERY specific build or with a player who takes fluff always over mechanical superiority

A smart player plays literally anything else besides the "official" sword lord class stuff, because he knows that stuff sucks hot shit. He just hands whatever he's actually playing a dueling sword/longsword and says "yo guys I'm playing a character who is/wants to be a sword lord in the setting"
>>
I wish Paizo would just release a V2 of Pathfinder and fix all the garbage. Just swallow their pride and say "Listen we know we were being ridiculous with our garbage errata."

>>

Did your favorite Deity make the second Cut?

http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5ljy5?Gods-of-Starfinder-Part-Two

Gotta admit, I really like Ibra. Hope they do more with it.
>>
>>54235226
>>54235179

I feel this burden also. There are sone interesting feats or chain feats like magical tails or the possesed hand chain. Super interesting options but out weighed by more optimal choices.

This is why I love the optional background skills rules. It enables you to put points in fluff things like proffession, perform, or craft. Most of the time people put points into skills that they need to survive the adventuring day.

It almost makes me think that they need to do something similar with feats. Enable you to have slots for "background" or fluff feats.

His church actually provides a really necessary service to the community in banking, but if his followers have formed a corporation to worship him in Starfinder, then I have absolutely no doubt that Paizo will play them off as greedy bastards who only care about coin.

Spontaneous Casters only in core should help with that, but I think Science Fantasy/Fiction lends itself better to that stuff.

Plus, like you mentioned, weapons can improve the balance somewhat. Fly isn't that strong anymore, even in a white room battle, if the Gnoll can have a Missile Launcher or a group of Kobolds armed with AR!15s
>>
54236784
I have to ask, why do you want them to separate? They're going to share a lot of stuff, in this thread we are talking about the same deities, so why do you want them separate?

I'm sure many people would appreciate a Science RPG general, combine Star Wars, Serenity, Star Trek, Diaspora, and Starfinder in one thread to open up more space and pool resources, but I don't think that is your ideal.

I ran the numbers a little while ago. A fully kitted out Blaster Sorcerer will be able to toss out 107.5 damage fireballs (on average) 3/day, assuming they have a lesser rod of maximize and the Empower Spell metamagic feat.

A soldier with the 7d8 laser gun, on the other hand? He gets his class level to damage with longarms and a third attack by level 10, meaning he does 21d8+30 damage if he hits with all three per turn, an average of 124.5 damage. It's only single shot, but assuming the gun has a 20 round magazine he can do it 6.66 times per day... and then he reloads.

The trick here is that casters I believe are meant to fill other niches than ending encounters. Technomancers appear to be focused on debuffs and some buffs, with Mystics focus on team support.

Dahak is the punk kid of Apsu (good god of Dragons) and Tiamat (you should know about her already) that invented evil dragons for the purpose of hunting them like a child burning ants with a magnifying glass. Apsu didn't like this and went after Dahak but was too whipped by his sister/wife/whatever Tiamat that when she told him to stop he stopped, but the lore right now is that he's looking for an opportunity to go behind her back and kill Dahak or otherwise stop him from being such an emo brat.

The soldier is also going to have easier access to heavy armor and power armor (A friend who couldn't say more because of NDA told me that power armor takes a feat to use, and it makes sense that that would require heavy armor proficiency) and probably personal forcefields as well. Chances are they'll be absolute gods when it comes to damage since they'll be the only class with easy access to heavy weapons and damage boosters, and be exceedingly tanky due to the armor.

I like this a lot. It makes soldiers a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, but less ridiculous out of combat (though they won't be totally useless due to actually having fucking skill points). That's perfect to me.

I'm just pissed that black holes are now forever associated with negative energy and evil. If only because it doesn't make any sense to me, especially since it now means that GRAVITY is apparently somehow associated with pure evil. That doesn't sit well with me.

Black Holes are the greatest defense against entropy!

That's not even new, we've known that most stars have portals connecting to the positive energy plane in their core and that the negative energy plane is full of black holes since... forever. I think that was info that was provided in the The Great Beyond, which is a fuckold setting lore book.

>>54237530

It's natural that people would view a sphere/oblate spheroid/torus of pure gluttony and darkness as evil I think. Even before that stars are basically made of what could be called hellfire

Let's be fair Anon, Black Holes really weren't going to be seen as good guys. For every Andromeda ship that gets pulled out of one, 50 billion Bido are likely to come out of one. They don't have a good track record.

>>54237537
I can't wait for the inevitable complaints about them. Those Barbarian players who insist on face rushing everything getting locked down with all the XCOM2 grenades will be fun stories.
>>
>>54237563
They don't preserve matter and information anon, they destroy them completely. Fermion number isn't conserved, nor is color or flavor charge. I suppose since they decrease the amount of information in the universe you could say they still hold back entropy, but even then I wouldn't call them good
>>
>>54237563

The preserve mass and angular velocity, at the least, and have heard theories about vibrations in the surface of the event horizon (as much as the event horizon can be considered a real surface) that result from matter passing through it being something that retains the information that was otherwise lost to the black hole.

You could probably use a Wish or Miracle spell to circumvent the range restriction, or failing that just find a much smaller black hole, one that's either been reduced sufficiently by Hawking radiation or one that was never a stellar black hole to begin with- be wary of the people building the LHC under Galt! They could be hidden necromancers with a secret agenda.

Aside from that, incorporeal creatures ignore gravity, don't they? What's to stop one from flying in and out of a black hole as they please, other than horrific nightmare abominations or theoretical and implausible firewalls beneath the event horizon?

They're called kerr black holes. They happen when the angular momentum is extremely high, causing their ring- shaped singularity to widen. Around their edge, above their event horizonef they have a second kind of even horizon called the ergosphere where youre slingshotted around ftl. Aha! Yes this I want to answer too

Jaden's app would be instantly improved if it didn't start with some 'woe is me' whining about how they won't get in. I didn't read anymore beyond that.

Rashin is overwritten, too much backstory, WAY too much personality, the character just has a lot going on thats not particularly interesting .

Luthara is ok, but I find Amnesiac stories very cliched and the personality of impulsive and angry, aka a hothead, feels to obvious

Kawase's app is a literal donut steel that presumes way too much about the setting and gives the character too much import, it just doesn't fit.

Conall Cernach is too much of a Cu Chulainn, he needs some original bits to his story, and being overly obsessed with Baine kind of robs the character of a larger reason to be in the campaign.

Replying to the anon that replied last thread (because I had to head out before the thread died) thanks for the advice! Improved Initiative was definitely one I was thinking of grabbing, but I was debating whether or not to wait until 7th or 13th level to grab it since it's a bloodline feat. Suppose sooner is better, and I can just swap a feat for a bloodline mutation if there's nothing on the list I want by then (Empower Spell and Improved Initiative were the only ones that immediately jumped at me). Spell Penetration makes sense too, roughly when should I grab it? I don't think spell resistance comes up often in the early levels. And are there any feats that can raise save DCs besides Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus?

And as for Rashin not having much motivation to leave, his main motivation is getting out there and finding his real father, though right now he's trying to find Khonnir first. But even without that, he's a curious halfling that loves to nerd-out over tech, I figure he'd have plenty of reason to head out of the city and explore with some people he trusts even if he wasn't looking for his father. Speaking of him nerding out over tech, that's gonna be awkward if any androids are in the party. Hope they don't mind him poking around and asking how they work.

I'll build off your post.

>Jaden
I finished reading it and it's a fairly simple story of somebody searching for missing family. A fairly simply story isn't a bad thing, for such a low level character. I don't really like Chosen Ones, but that's personal preference so I'm not holding it against him. Decent, but nothing especially stand out about it.

>Rashin
I want to try to criticize the character and not the app, but there's waaay too much text here. It should be chucked into a pastebin, linked in the app alongside a more abridged backstory. Unfortunately, there definitely does feel like there's a lot going on here and that makes creating an abridged backstory hard. I'd recommend outright cutting some bits. Start with the personality section, personality never needs to be more than a paragraph long, TOPS.

>Luthaya
Feels a little weird with her backstory not actually tying into Numeria at all, but at least it's an interesting backstory. Biggest problem I see is that the character won't have much of a reason to stay in Numeria if/when she gets her memories back. Offers decent hooks for the DM to play with though, and has my favorite art out these five.

>Erecura
Okay, disclosing up front that I have a huge love for toying with the idea of what it means to have a soul and to be alive for sapient beings that possibly aren't. But I feel like there's a joke here I'm not getting, som reference I'm missing. Also, I really find it hard to believe this little robogirl with her monotone gibberish would scare thugs instead of just making them angrier.

>Conall
Concise and decent, I like this backstory. If it's a rip off of Cu Chulainn, I wouldn't know. Too close to falling into generic anime protag "kind boy who wants to befriend strangers but gets really angry if you hurt his friends" territory though, and I'd try to move away from that.

Kobolds in the Zethian Empire are identical to pathfinder kobolds with the following changes.
Ability Score Traits: +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Str
Years of selective breeding have left Zethian kobolds smarter and hardier than their common brethren.
Zethian kobolds lose the light sensitivity trait. Zethian kobolds gain the prehensile tail racial trait in addition to their other racial traits.

>>54238736
Yeah, you're right. I'll admit, a lot of what I wrote was probably just prose, so I'll probably see if I can trim the fat sometime before apps close. Personality I'll certainly cut down on; Usually I have a hard time just describing a character's personality outside of a few basic traits (I usually have an -idea- what a character's like and how they act, but have a tough time actually sitting down and describing it), so I guess when I actually managed to think of a lot to say I got carried away. Besides how long his stuff is though, does Rashin's app look alright? Or at least, does the character itself look fun enough?

>Improved Initiative was definitely one I was thinking of grabbing, but I was debating whether or not to wait until 7th or 13th level to grab it since it's a bloodline feat.

Sooner is better, I say. I'm a slut for init bonuses though.

>Spell Penetration makes sense too, roughly when should I grab it?
Honestly, I couldn't tell you. There are more low CR things than you might think that have CR, but it definitely isn't as common as it is at high levels and I don't know where it really transitions from rare to commonplace. There's a cheap(ish, 500 GP) item called Dweomer's Essence that gives you a +5 bonus to penetrate SR on a single spell- maybe you should try to carry some with you until you have time to take Spell Penetration, for situations when you might run into things with SR at lower levels.

>And are there any feats that can raise save DCs besides Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus?
Elemental Focus and Greater Elemental Focus exist, they're exactly like Spell Focus except keyed to element instead of school. They stack with Spell Focus, too.

>>
>>54238968
Yeah, I'm aware blasters aren't usually the best kind of spellcaster to play. But I don't play spellcasters often (at least, not arcane casters), and I thought chucking around electro-fireballs would be fun, so I went with it. If he wasn't a sorcerer, I'd probably have made him a bomb-focused alchemist.

Alright guys, I need minds more versed in Golarion/Inner Sea lore than I. What places are most likely to have Aberant influence and produce individuals of the Aberant sorcerer bloodline? Further, what kinds of aberants would most likely be found in or around such places?

Do any such places at all overlap with where skinwalkers can be found as well?

Also, I know Qlippoth would technically fall under the Abyssal bloodline, but what manner of activity do they get up to in the Inner Sea, and could one supposedly use Aberrant stuff for them instead of the usual Abyssal options?
>>

>>54238736
I'm not professional writer, but I've heard from some before that sometimes the hardest part is that you write something and you love this part and think it sounds lovely and does a great job tying things together or showing some part of the narrative off in a non-jarring way that doesn't feel like exposition or it's just PERFECT foreshadowing... And the publisher/editor thinks it needs to be cut, for whatever reason. And you know what you gotta do? You gotta cut that section. It's your precious baby, but it's gotta go.

Sometimes, having a second or third opinion really helps with figuring out where or how to cut. Find somebody who can read the whole thing for you and tell you, sentence by sentence, "This is good" or "This needs to go". Find somebody like that and then you keep them, because they are your best friend as a writer.
>>
>>54239093
Oh yeah, a good editor is god tier

>>54238948

One thing I'll say is coming to the table for an AP with a character who wields the element the iconic enemies of the AP are weak too, along with the feat and skills that allow you to interact with all the "mysterious" aspects of the AP may be a bit cheesy.
>>
>>54239007
Yep, I saw it. Had to deal with IRL stuff so I wasn't able to respond till now, but I appreciate the advice! Think my next feat might be Improved Initiative then, since 5th level still won't have much for me in terms of blasting anyways.

>Elemental Focus stacks with Spell Focus
Oh shit, wasn't even aware of that. Definitely gonna grab that too then; With my bloodline arcana I should basically benefit from it on every blast Spell I use (unless whatever comes up has electricity resistance/immunity).

>>54239079

Spheres is allowed! You should look into the Electrokineticist elementalist, be a railgun!

Thankfully de to how incredibly fluff agnostic Spheres can be, as well as how easy it is to alter things with Traditions and Drawbacks, you can also be a certain scientific railgun!
>>
>>54239128
Oh yeah, missed this. I'm actually not going in with an electro-blaster because of enemies having weakness to it, I just like the thought of a tech-nerd using electricity for his primary spell focus. I like to imagine him building stuff later in the campaign, using his spells to charge his machines and get them running. That, and I like the imagine of a halfling with goggles on his head throwing electro-fireballs at bands of techno-barbarians in the wastes.

Might give it a look; Never messed with Spheres before so it should be neat to check out.

In his character's darkest timeline he would've never been able to get over his father neglecting him, joined up with her mother to exact petty revenge on people in the name of Calistria instead of being the reason she would turn her life around, his adopted daughter would die alone in the rain, his wife would have probably never have know him and he'd never have been there to save thousands of lives when an ancient evil would rise.

I figure since the Technic League seems to be main antagonists for Iron Gods, there'll be plenty of non-robotic enemies too. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a decent amount of non-robotic enemies have electricity resistance, given that there's lots of weapons and machines that deal it. If the GM thinks it's too cheesy though, I could probably figure out some way to tone it down a bit.

Fuck, I am pissed that I had to kill her. I tried everything to make peaceful contact but it just doesn't work. I shouldn't have expected any different though.

Anyway, they would probably be most commonly found in the Darklands, especially the deeper you go. There's all sorts of weird, tentacly stuff down there. No idea about Skinwalkers.

And actually, Qlippoth are definitely NOT covered under the Abyssal Bloodline. THey are from the Abyss, yes, but they've distinct from demons who are what that bloodline really represents being descendant from. If I were your DM, I'd let you use the Aberrant Bloodline to represent a Qlippoth heritage, possibly with some minor tweaks and/or refluffing.

>>54239128
To be fair, tech weapons like lasers and shit normally do fire damage, right? So in that sense, Luthaya is the one that's being a little cheesy.

Ebri-chan had to die anon. The source of the Church's blood had to be stopped, or else this would all happen again.

Yharnum was too far gone, it needed to be razed down, along with Laurence's folly that was the Church.

Humanity needs no distant and impersonal God to rule them, no alient entity to alter them. They need the guidance of a more personal and benevolant god to show them the way and protect them. Humanity must be raised up and uplifted by on of their own.

Doesn't Reign of Winter suggest playing cold-based characters despite nearly everything in the AP having resistance or immunity?
>>
>>54237671
Nothing unless you've got the feat that lets you talk to it regularly.

The Patron is a pair of jumper-cables for your own actual power. It doing so is at minimal expense on its part, but it being what triggers your abilities colors (or 'taints') the way they grow and develop to some degree. This can be the reward in and of itself (fiend pact powers are well suited to leading someone down a dark path), but the less eldritch-horror ones usually have had you work for the boost at first.

If it dies before you become an avowed, then you don't become an avowed - well, not without a different entity to get started.
>>
>>54239504
The source of the Church's blood? Anon, there IS no church anymore, not by the time the Hunter reaches Ebrietas. She only wanted to help humanity, and not out of some lofty desire based in pity for them or to be showered with worship- she did it with child-like motivations to help simply because she could and because they needed it. Ultimately, that's all Ebrietas was. A child, by the standards of her kind.

Blingmaker PCs haven't even gotten as far as starting a kingdom yet, I think. Last I remember seeing from a greentext, they're still mapping out the Greenbelt and hunting the Swag Lord

>>54239637
Yes but in that case it's a double edged sword because a cold-based character will also find their offense gimped by the enemy's cold immunity. Winter Witch PrC lets you ignore cold immunity but the enemies use that too, so it probably balances out. Not quite the same here
>>
>>54239637

Now this might be the wrong time to do this, what with the plethora of new games rolling in, but it's never the wrong time to look for interest in a game.

>The party has been recruited as his proxies to deliver a certain item to his older brother, who runs a the Andoren branch of the family's sizeable trading company
>You're about to stick your hand into a beehive of fiendish plotlines running square through the heart of the Inner Sea region, and fuck with a lot of powerful and fucked up nobles
>Lewdness rating: at least 6/10 Alexanders

>>
>>54239329
Personally, the one Bloodborne boss I regret killing the most is probably Gherman, followed by Amelia.

All Gherman wanted to do was save you, free you from becoming a slave to the Dream and the Moon Presence like him. He wanted to give you the chance to escape the prison that he was locked in. So you had to put your father figure down Snake Eater style, complete with a field of white flowers

And due to the lewd Alexanders, masked meetings are incredibly hot.
