It's supposed to help players build actual characters meant for the setting and campaign style, rather than getting the Elven Wizard, Dwarvish Warrior, and Human Cleric.

Weekend OC Streak anon here, wanted to bounce some ideas off you guys and get some feedback if you would be willing.

I'm tinkering with a fighting tournament CYOA and am at the point where I need to make some solid decisions. I have a rock/paper/scissors mechanic worked out to determine wins and losses, but wanted some advice on presentation and how much info to give away.

Basically I'm considering having you choose your opponents based on just a description of them, then for the actual results of the battle you'll have a second mystery box style page; so lets say you choose to fight Enemy A, B and C, you'll find out that your build beats A and B handily then loses the final match to C. Make sense? The issue is its extra work and will of course lose the impact after the first playthrough; also if my descriptions are no good the player may feel cheated. If I do this you'd get rewards for how many you beat as well.

Other option is you see the stats of your enemies straight up, so you can pick the ones you know you'll beat, which is a lot simpler; pretty much the way I did it in Delinquent Quest, for reference. You won't have to beat everyone anyway, at the moment you'll be choosing 3 out of 9 enemy fights for your quarterfinal, semi final and final round opponents.

Finally I could just scrap mechanics all together and just make all the choices fluff and character based ones; this would free up some writing space which would mean more enemys and allies and stuff, especially as I wouldn't have to worry about balance any more.

Also no guarantee that this will be THIS weekends OC, but I'll try get something out for you guys regardless.

TokHaar here, this is hopefully the final version of Infected and I can finally move on to Eronomicon.

Some people wanted to be able to make 2 strains which had a symbiotic relationship which where they both have bonded and become soul mates forever but cant do 2 strain without progenitor. Something like Illya and Berzerker or the Little Sisters and Big Daddies or Master Blaster. I didn't have the heart to deny them this great build. This is mainly the reason I did this update.

Some people really wanted more race options, so why not? The cap is set to prevent people from abusing the option.

Since people thought each biome listed counted as a environment. Humid environment, dry environment and cold environment was the only options. Saw some builds which listed like almost every biome. If I would explain that in the description it would take too much text so I decided I would set a cap similar to race.

Take Dual Strain for example. You are already infected with the Progenitor strain, the serum just activates it. So no vector needed. However, you need a way to spread the Second strain. This strain doesn't effect you in any way, but you are a carrier still. You're choosing not only how the other infected spread the Second strain, you're also choosing how you spread it.

Depends on the CYOA. Some of them warrant the length, I'd hate to see Hero Academy be any shorter (and I'm looking forward to more of it infact), and its not like its padding out space on any of its pages or anything.

I like the long ones in general to be honest, its just a fact that they get posted less due to that length.

That's really the hard part for me, as well. Though I imagine in a different capacity. My use of Dual Strain makes me plenty powerful with the ability to create myself a nice little harem with great benefits, but as the carrier of a disease with such potential I really need to redistribute some of my points so I can spread the benefits more widely. It's a good thing I can't die, because my job is one of the most dangerous given to any Nightmare Caller. I infiltrate human bases - Sometimes I sneak in by pretending to be a refugee. Either way, I eventually get in, and use my Infiltrators to ensure I can get access to anything I need. Once the base is subverted, I open a full portal, and summon my soldiers to ravage them. Thorn Turtles and Outsider Medics slaughter any opposition, while Stalkers hunt through the base acting as scouts and assassins, and Explosive Seers take down any heavy or fortified targets. Once we're done, we move on, until we track down the ones who did this to us. Then they'll pay for what they did to us.
