Canonically, the various Sister Orders are far more similar to each other than Space Marine Chapters. They also don't transfer Sisters to Orders "they would fit better in", so they don't especially specialize.

Like I said, it's a bit weird thing where it doesn't have much effect but it would be weird to not include.

Not all, I am personally neither (or both? I doubt that distinction matters), non-binary is the term if you care to know. I plan to never use the Fatal effect of Power Thief but instead help others reconcile with monstergirls. I am making a CYOA in my free time when I have inspiration. Is an island type CYOA where you choose the winning condition (I want them to be of the same difficulty, but I am aware that maybe I will have to use modifiers to balance things out), the objetives can be reduced to killing something on the island, escaping the island, or simply surviving for a set time.
The options don't include companions of human intelligence or surpassing, I think of letting the player make one with enough effort; strong equipment, because the player is going to be able to find it or make it; or changes to the island, there are some options that include structures, fauna, or flora.
I am making the boons so they don't change the mind, and they are minor changes if they do.
I will like to use some ideas of other CYOAs. Like using The Other as a copy of the player that have the same objetive: killing "The Other".
What do you guys think? Have some suggestions or material that you recommend me to read?
Note: The player will be free to refuse to participate, and losing (dying while in the island in most of the cases) will not give any penalization. This is not important, but I wanted to say it anyway.

I know we're working on it, it just seems like it will take centuries at current rates of progress, while computers strong enough to more or less recreate a brain are already here, and ones that will be able to brute force past any issues and do it completely will be here in the next decade or two.

It's a good thing you brought up nuclear power, because that's in a very similar place right now. The reason nuclear power is as widespread as it is is because we didn't have the perception of how insidious nuclear waste and nuclear warfare are when we started doing them. It's basically the same thing, except one field was lucky and the other wasn't.

Because is hard, expensive, and untested. We are not fully confident in how the genetic material works and what are the interactions between genetic material, so I am pretty sure we will need to make some errors along the way.
