>An animalistic growl came from the gue’ron’sha’s helm. The Imperial warrior put his shoulder down, drew a chainsaw blade, and charged.
>Bravestorm grinned fiercely as the Space Marine’s long strides ate up the distance between them. The gue’ron’sha was planning to get in close.
>A microdec passed, and the commander eye-blinked a sub-routine he had waited a long time to use.
>The XV8 took a stride forward, pivoting hard at the waist. Bravestorm’s massive onager gauntlet swung out in a backhand blow. The Space Marine’s blade was swept aside. The battlesuit gauntlet caught him in a full body blow, crushing gun and warrior alike against the lateral wall of the corridor.
>Bravestorm resumed his gun stance, already firing by the time the gue’ron’sha’s mangled corpse fell in a disorderly pile to the ground.

Guys...
3 units with Fly forming a closed triangle with their bases.
A unit in the middle of the triangle which does not have Fly.
This unit in the middle just became immune to being charged by enemy units that do not have the Fly keyword?

Gluing the right part to your model instead of doing just whatever isn't some kind of strange arbitrary bar. But then again you probably think you don't need to be a proper weight, have good hygiene and grooming, and not stink.

Might have a bit of a problem with that due to minimum move.
>>

Yes, but it will be extremely difficult to achieve, since Airborne units have minimum move distances and limited turning arcs, unless they go into hover mode, and if they go into hover mode, they can then be charged as normal.

Certainly, but a scenario with 2 x gunship and 1 x transport, could provide an effective turn of no-charge risk.

So this..."discussion" about sergeants, combi-weapons, and WYSIWYG is actually kind of relevant to something I was just thinking about.

I play Carcharodons, and most of my sergeants have either bolt pistol and chainsword, or power weapon and chainsword/bolt pistol. I can't actually fit all three weapons on them (they have a bolter in their rules too), but I do want to start using combi-bolters.

Here's why they're modeled this way:

- In 5th Edition, the rules said "all infantry with bolters may replace them with chainswords for free", and sergeants can do this anyways, so my sergeants were all BP + chainsword, or had power weapons.
- In 6E/7E, the rules said "models may replace their bolter with a chainsword for free, or pay 1 point to purchase a chainsword. THIS CHANGE MUST BE REPRESENTED ON THE MODEL". That's literally what the official FW rules said, more or less.

So now, assuming I can have triple weapon tacticals in the future, can I just say they have combi-bolters? I can't actually fit the bolter on them, and the arms don't have wrist joints for me to snap off as they're the older kit. I thought about putting the combis on another random bolter marine, but that's not exactly accurate either if the sergeant's the last man standing.
>>
>>54114679
I like building and painting, too bad I can't build my guardsmen with Plasma and Melta since they are not in the box still.
I also enjoy actually playing the game too and people don't care that I proxy grenade launchers or flamers as plasma or melta, understandably since the guard box doesn't come with the damn things, and the Cadian models are fucking ancient.
I don't WYSIWYG with space marines though, since you know, they actually come with the weapons.

No, but it doesn't matter if the tournament you go to or your local shop demands it. As with most things /tg/ overreacts about, you should see how your local area is handling it and both parties should discuss it beforehand and/or use a dash of courtesy and reasoning.

>>
>>54114757
WYSIWYG isn't a rule anymore than "use GW models instead of green army men from the dollar store" is a rule. It doesn't need to be listed in the rulebook. It's not "illegal" for you to show up with nothing but flat bases with no models on them and just the names painted on, but you won't get a lot of games. Of course that's an extreme example but it gets the point across. Some people want to play against armies that actually represent what they say they have and don't look like half-assed powergamer autism.

Untrue. I did this swap earlier today in fact. That said, some Sisters conversions can get pretty gnarly. Basically requiring a dremel and basic greenstuff skills. But that's only if you're going for more unconventional stuff or not starting from the right model. Some of them are much easier to convert than others. Luckily the Sister Superior with the outstretched bolter is easy to swap with all the combi-weapon options and ends up WYSIWYG when you do. Ironically pic related's original Bolter & Power Sword configuration is not legal in 8th ed.

No, people are literally acting like it's an enforceable rule.
>>
>>54114791
I understand completely, and for the same reasons.
I want my guys to be outfitted the same as well, but the fact is, GW doesn't provide the means to equip many units with what they are allowed to take, as I said my SMs don't have this issue because GW provides, my Guard HWTs don't either because they have everything in the kit, but the basic guardsman has to either be built alongside a command squad just to get the plasma or doesn't get it. It's stupid. Considering they reboxed the guys a decade ago, guess they forgot
Personally I'm ok with minis being proxied, such as the Warzone Mutant Chronicles guys for the Guard. Or with SMs counting as CSMs
It's when people try to do stuff like
>that coke can is a drop pod
or
>That guy with the pistol has a Lascannon
that I say no.
>>
>>54114844

Because it is. Tournaments enforce it all the time.
>>
>>54114844
Anything is an enforceable rule if its standard convention at the LGS.

If your local tournament organizer says "everything WYSIWYG or you can't bring it" then that's a rule and he can enforce it.

It's a common house rule for tournaments. So it's certainly something to keep in mind if you care about playing in tournaments at all. As their battle-brothers stood up to level a hurricane of bolter fire, the first elements sprinted, leaped and charged headlong towards the unprotected flank of the tau rampart.
>A dozen Hammerhead tanks drifted into view atop the crumbling lip of the Weeping Cliffs, their vantage point a perfect firing position to slaughter those in the open below. Drexian cursed himself. Advance towards the heaviest fire. This is a xenos ploy, I can taste it.’

Looking at getting into this a little bit as I have a couple of mates who play.
What's the "go to" new player set?
I was looking at Space Marines or maybe Imperial Guard, probably only doing 25-50 power (if that's the right term) games to start
>>
>>54115865

(it's not, by the way, I'm just being pedantic).

It's like saying "playing 40k with GW models" isn't a general rule, because the rulebook doesn't say it and nobody demands you do it in real life. 99.9% of the games are still going to involve GW models and it's going to be what people expect.
>>
>>54115865
but its not. ITC is a tournament house rule set. But its not THE tourny rule standard
>>
>>54115859

>>
>>54115871
>>54115953

The Start Collecting sets are probably the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to get a small army together quickly, especially if you look elsewhere to buy the set. You'll have quite a few models to keep you busy without it becoming too daunting.

Also Power Points are great for people just getting started and getting used to the rules, most people on /tg/ will complain about them due to imbalance issues, but this isnt that important for a fee games with your mates.
>>
>>54116001
Power is designed so that it doesn't have to be equal like points are, although you want to be in the same ball park at least. You'll find yourself needing to get more models, as larger games are far more common although most people don't mind downsizing for new players to start with.
>>
>>54116022
Not to turn this into a /k/ discussion but I thought Ozzies couldn't own guns?

I highly recommend getting the Primaris models instead of the older marines because you will get more bang for your buck in the long run. Right now the Primaris dudes are pretty much second tier to the oldmarines at the moment, but that won't be the case for long and chances are you will still be using Primaris marines in a few years whereas by then the old marines will be garbage.
>>
>>54116037
Ahk, so >>54116021 was saying 50-100 power is common.
How many points approximately is 1 power?
>>
>>54116047
Roughly 1:20 so 50 power is 1000 points, which is considered a small game.
>>
>>54116047
20. Most games are played in 500 point increments.
>>
>>54116046
It's more regulated than the US, but still allowed. Imagine California turned up to 11.

How good is the tau start collecting? Looking to get started with 40k and was about to buy some models earlier in the year but got enlisted with short notice then while i was gone 8ed dropped. Is magnetising crisis suits the way to go because I'm not too sure i want the hassle. Currently waiting at job training school until february so i met up with some people at my local store and hada chat with them and they all said they were happy to accommodate low pr or point matches for people like me. Also considering farsight enclave paint because aesthetics.

Also is it true that more units are considered viable now instead of being that unit which may as well have been discontinued because of how often it was fielded

>>
>>54116046
Nah just a huge fuckaround to get. Pistols are even harder. For reference, you must:
For a non semi-auto rifles and non pump or semi auto shotguns:
>do a safety course (mine was $120)
>join shooting club ($85ish per year)
>have access to a safe (doesn't need to be your own, but you do need access to it)
>apply for a license (6+ week wait). This is approximately $80 per year scaling cheaper if you get multiple years at once (mine was $195 for 3 years)
>apply for permit for the weapon (1 week wait, $35)
>get the weapon
>remain financial member of a shooting club to keep it

For pistols:
>all of that, except
>join pistol club, which is $50 for joining and approx $250-350 per year
>shoot 3 times in 6 months, then you can apply for license
>do pistol safety course
>can own one centrefire or rimfire, and one air pistol in first 12 months of licensing
>must shoot 6 times per year at club to keep pistol, adding an additional 3 shoots per year for each other caliber you own
>must remain financial member of club to keep pistols

I just have a .308 bolt action at the moment but would like to join a pistol club and get a pistol

ANYWAYS

>>
>>54115989
Yeah, a new edition came out very recently, so with it came all the new videos and whatnot. Power is easier to tally and don't include the extra costs of special weapons and whatnot. Points are more in-depth and factor in the cost of individual upgrades and wargear. Most people are going to be used to points because of this.
>>
>>54115932

Are crisis suits that bad now? It's hard to imagine a core part of tau being nerfed so hard points wise, especially considering how cheap they were before with twin flamer suits costing like 32 points or something. Also is costing more points actually making them unfeasible instead of just more expensive
>>
>>54116220

FW has Renegades and Heretics. You can also do count as keywords. Like "Catachan" on paper, but your own army keyword for lore reasons.
>>
>>54116962
Renegades and heretics, no longer so ludicrously better than standard guard.

Why?

Pretty sure GW straight up said they used FLG, Adepticon and NOVA tournament organizers for designing matched play. Hell, Reece and Frankie did the faction tactical articles before the edition dropped.

I get you don't like tournaments, but don't lie on the internet.

Come on now don't be like that.
Now get in the cesspit.

>Implying there's anything wrong with houserules
>>
>>54117071
Used is the right word. Their input was minimal, the edition was already made, now they are just scapegoats for the game having issues that the "playtesters" missed (since they didn't bother to read everything)

The faction focus articles were useless, clickbait tier works bloated by tourney wank and had at most a few lines of useful info about the new edition, at worst showed the writer didn't know what the fuck he was talking about.

And I don't hate tournaments, I hate WAAC faggots trying to find excuses for their bullshit.

>don't lie on the internet
Prove my claims are lies then faggot. What GW asked these few tournament "notables" to do is very, very vague, and for good reason.
>>
>>54116102
But they're so tiny.
>>
>>54117169
There isn't, but trying to push them as standard play and having rules that favor certain armies and playstyles is less houserules, and more excuses for faggotry.

You're right, spook gook should be used.

If I want to use the Assassins now do I have to use one of my Elite slot from the i.e. Battallion detachment? Or what do I have to do?

That second suit from the left's pose lol

>WHY, OH CRUEL WORLD, WHY !

Yesterday I had a game of 2v2
Imperial guard and Orks, vs Adeptus Mechanicus and super Church friends.

Conscript Spam is just a meme. Ork spam with 5++ and 6+++ is actually harder to kill, but nothing a bunch of DCA or Arco-Flagellants can't handle.
>>
>>54117253
Nice potato there buddy.

>imperial guard and orks
>>
>>54117042
They sorta made them crap. They took away all the things that gave their army flavor and made everything expensive and less effective. Also there are no characters, they forgot to include that keyword. Oh and unit size changes from data sheet to point cost table so good luck figuring out which one is right.
>>
>>54117513
Made more sense than AdMech or super church friends and Orks.

Ork mercenaries hired by turncoat planetary governor.

By Aliexpress I mean cheap magnets and hand drills - I bought one with 10 drills set for 1,5$ all and I can not imagine how could I live without it before
>>
>>54117585
Ork pirates are no longer a thing?
I mean it is simple, get paid in DAKKA and vehicles.
Defeat the enemy and then attack the people that hire you. Even more DAKKA and vehicles, maybe some extra trophies and nice hats.
