Neferata used sphinx venom in her elixer.
That implies there was a real kind of sphinx, otherwise the venom would come from something else.

Given Nehekharans saw them as something positive to build living statues of, they were probably tamed.

For that thread's OP's question - probably not all that hard to convert him, really. You take a Bretonnian Knight of the Realm as your base, can put him on a horse or on foot as the mood takes you (though the latter obviously requires some converting). For the mace, you can take the staff from a Damsel for the head and shaft, or a banner pole from Adeptus Sororitas/most Bretonnian units, like the Knights of the Realm.

The candles and the mitre would be easy enough to greenstuff, but if you really wanted bits for them, take the candles off of Dwarf miners and the mitre off of the old Confessor model from 40k (though it might not look good on top of a helmet).

What is there to explain? The 5th edition army books weren't compatible with 6th edition so they were get-you-by rules until the new books came out.

But since they needed to fit in a small booklet they were extremely barebones and simple. And it turns out the most wonky things in the game are facilitated by broken special rules. Since Ravening Hordes didn't have many special rules, taken as a whole it's pretty balanced.

Man, remember freehand?
I guess GW stopped doing it because it was daunting to newcomers and in the last few years started with moulded decoration.

But in the old days every model had some.
>>
>>54092473
Makes you wonder how that happens when they're stuck in villages and not really allowed to leave, work every day except holidays, and don't really get that much in the way of food. Ignoring genetic problems, where would they get the time/energy/reason to breed like rabbits to be underfoot enough to die in droves without problem?

Then again, I have no idea how a Bretonnian city is supposed to work. I know the real world Middle Ages had plenty of cities, but from how WFB makes it sound, Bretonnia cannot handle anything above the small town level, and the Empire is the only one that can be distinctly urban.
>>
>>54093664
Bretonnia was a dialed to 11 parody like everything else originally was.

It wasn't supposed to make sense any more than the Empire being at war with literally everyone its entire history and still existing.

Beast wizard would be fine with it.
>>
>>54094022
I vote that one. Because it's best to break their concept of self-importance with the crushing reality of a turgid gor phallus. The others are either too meek, which isn't nearly as fun to break in, or in the light wizard's case a tsundere that goes from "I-it's not like I enjoy being defiled" to hips moving on their own.

Someone that has a high opinion of themself might still end up liking it, but they'd still be stuck picking up the pieces of their shattered ego.

I guess this is why I play Slaanesh.

Sure, which is why bretonnian wizardkids get deported to Athel loren, home of the wood elves, the boys act as manservants until they die and women live there and occasionally come back as damsels of the lady.

>>54094537
That is admittedly a failing on GW's part - they have to explain how Bretonnians and Wood Elves are supposed to fight if the Lady is actually an elven goddess, who by all rights they should favor as much as the rest of their pantheon. So their solution is to have her be mysterious and unrecognizable to Orion and Ariel, though akin to them. She doesn't seem that widely worshiped as Lileath, so maybe she can get away with not being recognized much, especially if she's focusing most of her time on the Brets.

I still can't agree with her choices though, and she comes off as being extremely manipulative even when her own neck is on the line. Comes off more edgy than bittersweet to have the epitome of chivalry act so base.
>>
>>54094597
the wood elves are a force of nature instead of a regular good aligned faction. Orion goes nuts and ravages south bretonnia every year when he wants to stretch his legs. They are aligned with the forces of order because chaos wants to corrupt their forest.

Also the wood elves largely worship Kurnuous, Isha and Loec instead of the traditional high elf pantheon.

Total war did a pretty good job of representing that, with elves ravaging south bretonnia half the time and the only way to ally with them was to declare war on beastmen.
>>
>>54093664
By and large, Bretonnia has an agreeable climate and is relatively peaceful. If your lord isn't a TOTAL cretin your life will be pretty comfortable by Warhammer standards.
>>
>>54094639
And yet the fuckers still invite beastmen to war on me if they decide they don't like my face.

Maybe it's because I haven't tried starting as Carcassone or Bordelaux, but I've never seen that - the Wood Elves only seem to get brave enough to start picking on the south after the End Times, wherein I have to slowly strangle them and their ridiculously large garrison forces to death by sheer numbers. Then again I'm a faggot who can't make it to hard mode, so take of that what you will.

And you make a good point, especially in how wild the Wood Elves are. I should have also mentioned how strange it is for the Bretonnians to be fighting Wood Elves if their goddess is secretly an elven one. The explanation given seems to be basically that she went 'fuck elves they suck.' Which makes it weird how she's still an elven goddess, but who even cares at this point?
>>
>>54094736
she seems to be fairly minor on the elven totem pole. If we go by guardians of the forest, elves know that the lady exists, and that she uses humans to protect her realm. An elf wonders why the lady would take interest in the Main character after she comes to him in a visit.

>>
>>54096949
The gist of it is that the throne he's on is so sacred, he's not supposed to ever sit on anything else. So it's just easier to carry around the throne everywhere and let him ride, that way they can ensure he never sits on anything else - what if he were knocked down and forced to sit on the ground, after all?

It is a pretty awesome throne at least - it was said to be made by Grungi, while it endures the dwarven race shall endure, and it has the rare Rune of Eternity - a rune so rare it hasn't been inscribed anywhere else. Imagine how important the Pheonix Crown and the Flame of Asuryan is for the elves, and make it a chair.

Nope.

Morathi promises Slaanesh's current Champion after annointing him, since she's high priest of Slaanesh and does that, that he can rape her to death if he destroys Ulthuan. She of course plans on using him to sacrifice so she can summon her husbando Slaanesh himself and make a mono-Chaos God End Times. We are introduced to him killing a butchered slave Elf, part of a breeding stock that Morathi keeps specifically for torturing for her own amusement.

Her Slaaneshi Witch Elves are sadistic ADD and scare the fuck out of him, so he lets them do whatever they want to his men and he starts to worry that they'll rapekill all his forces before they reach a High Elf battle. Earlier in the book one of his men climaxes and dies moaning with pleasure after being shot in the groin with an arrow and having his throat cut, but whatever torture the Witch Elves do involves Daemonettes anc scares even the Champion.

Later on he has blue balls since he wants to rape a living Elf but they die before he can get their armor off and he wants a maiden and can't tell them apart from the men. He sees Alarielle and starts to stalk her, she just grabs his hand and purges all the Chaos from him then steals his soul back from Slaanesh using the guilt he had for sacrificing his own wife to start his journey. The angry Slaanesh pours energy into the soulless Champion's body to try and corrupt her through him, but then Alarielle lets go letting the body morph into a Chaos Spawn due to getting over 9000 gifts at once which demoralizes and breaks his army.

Then Teclis wakes up from a coma, flies to the battlefield like Superman, and drops a spell nuke that kills non-High Elves.

Morathi gets hit with a shitload of Slaanesh magic and has a freakout all the way back to Naggaroth.

So yeah. Its only the men who get raped, although he did want to rape.

I know that the Strigoi are clearly said in the lore to rarely, if ever, give anyone the Blood Kiss and make more Strigoi. But what would be a good explanation for a new Strigoi? Best I can think of is a Strigany servant who was so useful his Strigoi master didn't want to lose him, or a victim of a Strigoi's feeding that survived.
>>
>>54099421
The first one could work, the second couldn't.

Feeding does not cause transformation. The Blood Kiss involves draining someone to the brink of death and feeding them your own blood. It's incredibly intimate and very deliberate.

I do wanna help you though, so here are some ideas.

1.) The Strigoi is mad, and thinks he's still a beautiful vampire prince. He sincerely believes he's giving his victim a gift.

2.) The victim slighted or insulted the Strigoi deeply, so the vampire gives them the Blood Kiss as revenge.

3.) The victim is a servant so indispensable or adored that the Strigoi can't bear to think of unlife without their favorite. The victim consents and is give. The Blood Kiss.

4.) An utterly insane Strigoi gives the Blood Kiss to every victim, deliberately causing Chaos and misery.

5.) A Strigoi gives the Blood Kiss to the distant descendants of the man who slew his sire, seeking an ironic revenge.

Can confirm, an actual nickname for porn was 'bramble mags' because you would pull it out of bramble bushes. When I wanted some new stuff in a hurry I would just go out and scour the hedgerows and there was always something. The first hardcore image I saw was from that and is today one of the best things I've ever seen, wish I had the source; a middle aged redhead in a leather basque getting gang banged and obviously really enjoying it, must have been printed illegally. I had one stack of good quality american and european imports with hardcore and the better british ones, a stack of low grade scruff and a stack of bramble and daily sports. I took the two lower tier ones, put them in carrier bags and chucked them back in the field where I found a lot of them, hope some young fellow found a use for them.

Some minor observations:

Unlike greenskins, whose reproduction has not been mentioned since 3rd Edition, there have been mentions of troll females and males after said edition, aside from the obvious troll hag from Forge World.

Khaine was not Khorne before 4th Edition. Khaine was a separate deity of murder in the Old World pantheon, and the Elves had a pretty typical D&D-esque elf pantheon that was never explored much. The modern elf pantheon was imported from the Eldar in 40k for 4th Edition. However, the Witch Elves in 3rd Edition worshipped Khorne, and their cult eventually largely supplanted the Slaaneshi worship that had characterized the Dark Elves since their expulsion from Elven Kingdoms (which included not only the kingdoms of Ulthuan, but a nearby group of islands back then). Actually, I would argue that while the Dark Elves use the name Khaine, their worship has definitely turned to the different warp-entity known as Khorne.
>>
>>54103590
>The modern elf pantheon was imported from the Eldar in 40k for 4th Edition

>>
>>54103590
>while the Dark Elves use the name Khaine, their worship has definitely turned to the different warp-entity known as Khorne.
As dumb as I find that, dark elves are literally the shittiest elves, so I don't actually care enough to contest the idea.
>>
>>54103590
Modern druchii certainly don't worship Khorne, since their murder god allows stealth and secrecy, and not only tolerates magic but grants sorceries. Tzeentch might be clever enough to wear several masks of opposite gods, but Khorne is a straightforward type.

Here's what I've been able to piece together:
The Old World was originally inhabited by the Belthani (basically celts) who lived in Bretonnia, the Empire and Albion. They were followers of the Old Faith, which is related to Taal and Rhya worship and they maintained the networks of waystones laid down by the Old Ones. There were also the people of Tylos in what is now Tilea, which fell in -1780 IC.

At some point a number of tribes of men migrated into the Empire from the east. They conquered and interbred with the Belthani to produce the people of Sigmar's time. The people of Albion remain unconquered and are culturally similar to the Belthani.

Here's a list I've assembled of the various tribes of the Old World at Sigmar's time. Note that there's a lot of conflicting information:

Scythians - Kislev
Unberogens (prev Hunberokin) - Reikland
Jutones - Wasteland (Westerland)
Was Jutones - Nordland and Ostland
Teutogens - Middenland
Udoses - Ostland
Taleutens - Talabecland
Cherusen - Hochland
Thuringians - Drakwald (Now Middenland)
Asoborns - Stirland
Fennones - Sylvania
Ostagoths - Ostermark
Menogoths - Wissenland
Brigundians - Averland
Merogens - Solland (Now Wissenland)
Endals - Wasteland (Westerland)
Bretonii - Bretonnia
Ropsmenn - Kislev
Ungols - Kislev
Gospodar - Eastern Steppe (migrated to Kislev ~1500 IC)
Frikings - Southern Kislev
Norsii - Nordland or Norsca (Either way, Sigmar drove them to Norsca)

I know not everyone here would bother to learn the basics about AoS, but it is a pretty distinct setting from Warhammer Fantasy. It couldn't even passably be like old Warhammer at this point, at least in terms of setting details. It's more like a nordic series of realms than a single planet.

Trying to restart a campaign of WFRP, but I can't seem to be able to decide on a grander plot and where to start it. I am a greatly inexperienced GM, I tried using a pre made one, but I didn't like the feel of it, and now am stuck between a few ideas:
1) One of the players is given a notice of a great debt owed to them by a nearby dwarfhold, and the arc then focuses on them getting past various beastherds and other forces on the way to get the gold, only to have the hold come under gobbo/skaven siege
2)They all meet on the road in the north of the Empire, only for Norse/Elf raiders to take them and then they have to escape from the castle they're taken to.
3) Find a way for them to all end up as explorers working for a Marienburg expedition to Lustria.
Which sounds either the best to play, or the easiest to set up? And are there at least homebrew rules for Lustria adventures?

I've been throwing around some ideas for a Marienburg/Lustria campaign myself. Although I'm a pretty experienced GM, so 'easy to run' isn't a huge priority. And the ideas are mainly overarching concepts rather than specifics.

I find there's a couple of problems with most campaigns. The first is that they're linear. Which is something of a necessity when you're writing a book, but it's not exactly playing to the strengths of tabletop RPGs. The other is that there isn't much scope for success or failure. You either solve the mystery and win the adventure or you fail and die which never really happens because everyone would have a shitty time. There's no in between.

So my concept was this: Start a campaign in Marienburg and in the course of play introduce the players to various factions. Merchant houses, trading companies, nobles, that kind of thing. Run a few adventures that allow the players to potentially gain a lot of money. The Lustrian Bubble from Marienburg: Sold Down the River is good for this. Give the players the opportunity to make friends and enemies among the various factions.
Then present the players with an opportunity: Someone's discovered a fabled city made of gold in Lustria. All the factions are going to be rushing to claim a piece. How the players approach it depends on their previous adventures - if they've made friends with a faction, they can ally with them. If they're still poor, they can sign on as adventurers in an expedition. If they're rich they can invest the money in an expedition, buy shares and get some say in how it's outfitted. Perhaps choose crew depending on NPCs they already know.
Once the expedition is ready, they're off. Either in a command role or as crewmembers. Once they're in Lustria, they'll need to deal with not only the jungle and its inhabitants, but also the rival factions they may already know from their adventures in Marienburg. Cue double-crossings, mexican standoffs and all that good stuff.

I remember the thing of Khaine being Khorne under a different name was mentioned by an Imperial point of view in the Hordes of Chaos armybook for 4th or 5th edition (he one with Engra on the cover)

It was just a supposition tho, and ever actually explored.
All in all, Khaine is probably an aspect of khorne, or a completely different and separate deity, but i remember old Dark Elves openly corrupting the worship of elven god with chaos worship.
In origin, dark elves were essentially chaos elves

So, I asked 40kg but I'll ask you guys. Has anyone else here had dreams- or more specifically nightmares- involving aspects of Warhammer?

I personally have had three (though I feel like it was four), all of which related to Nurgle. The first was after a birthday of mine that involved very heavy drinking, on the next day which was spent recovering from a hangover that felt like it could only have been worse if I actually died.

After that, there was one where I was seemingly infected by Nurgle's Rot or the like, and watched my body slowly desiccate til I resembled a living bog body. I shuffled around in a swamp-like area, mourning my state but glad at least that my body was dried up. The most recent, and so far final, was being stuck in a world reminiscent of the Realm of Chaos cover (the one with Nurgle and the yellow skies and that ugly tinge) and 90's stop-motion films that look like everything is covered in dust and filth. It included a lot of hostile flora and fauna, including giant, fat mosquitoes.

I used to have a recurring nightmare about being dragged into sewers by hordes of rats, started after I started reading into Skaven.

>>54107986
I've always been partial to keeping the nature of the gods in Warhammer obscure. Never let the players know for sure whether their Clerics are really summoning the aid of Gods, or if it's just another flavour of magic.

>>54107625
Lustrian campaigns are great if you're a fan of the 'lost in the jungle, how do you survive' style of game. If your players get that far - don't forget about the underground oceans that the Druchii use to get to the Old World and bypass the High Elves, makes for great story hooks.

>>54107208
If you need inspiration, look at some of the old campaigns - Doomstones and The Enemy Within, they have a lot of good ideas for grand plot hooks.

>>54106743
You're not alone, brother.
