But secondly, GW isn't going to go 4 months with no Age of Sigmar releases, especially since at least some of the preview pics we've seen on the rumour mill are clearly AoS models, and none of the preview pics that look to be 40k related match up with the shit the leaks claim is coming.

The whole point of the deathwatch is to highly elite squads of marines able to perform surgical strikes.
>>
>>54077887

So just put any fucking unit in front of it so that unit has to be hit my Smite first? It sounds like you just played piss awful. Smite only hits the closest enemy unit so its super easy to game around.

Having something in front of it has no impact on you - you disembark within 3" of the LR then move and go on about your business.

Putting it together might take a week or two. Same for painting

It might have warped parts (which is more likely with larger blocks of resin)

Parts might have absorbed the release agent meaning no paint will ever stick to it

You'll possibly have to explain it to your parents/GF/wife somehow

Even better, what's your point then? That the Deathwatch have a deathly fear of doorways?
>>
>>54077953

Nope that's 100% not accurate to the fluff.

Deathwatch are about killing shit before it becomes a major issue. Like killing a warboss before shit goes full Waugh.

Or killing Genestealer covens before they generate enough psychic force to call the Nids.

Or deal with Eldar pirate scum.

What they are not good at handling are big Xenos incursions. That's what Imperial Guard are for with hopefully close to full Chapter SM support.

You can never be within 1" of an enemy unit without charging.
>>
>>54078051
it's probably got to do with the fact that the game is about training up rookies into hardened soldiers, which doesnt work with deathwatch because they are already veterans
>>
>>54077790
I tried store bought simple green. Worked pretty well, but some of the pigment is still there in recesses and as stains. Is this normal?
>>
>>54078161
There isn't a rule that says so. The only rule close to this is that you can't move within 1 inch of an enemy without charging, but you aren't moving your units here.
>>
>>54078161
Not him but the rules don't say this. That's why rules that let you deploy things normally tell you they have to be more than 1" away from any enemy models.
>>
>>54078169
>grey knight rookies
>tyranid rookies
>necron rookies
>>
>>54078169
A) Grey Knights
B) Lore-wise the DW take anything from Blood Claws to Terminators, it wouldn't be hard for them to start off as tactical marine equivalents and work their way up. What do you think happens in the DW RPG?
>>
So is there ever any reason to field dakkafexes in 8e or is it still CC fexes only?
>>
>>54078189

Actually almost nothing says 'must be more than 1" away when deploying' - most of them have the 9" requirement but another illustrative of this is that scouts can deploy in combat in theory. If your opponent deploys on their deployment zone edge you can deploy within 1" of them while still being outside the deployment zone and start in combat.
>>
>>54078104

i could have sworn that units got +1 to hit against titanic, but now i cant even find it in the brb or the index. is it only specific keywords that involve titanic that affect it? does it not have an intrinsic meaning?

You want a Thunderhawk then fine. BUT, you might want to someday feild the machine and that beast costs over 700 points.

If you want a giant-ass flyer in a 2000 points game without the risk of being BTFO by the ground forces, consider the 320 point Marauder bomber, or the LESS than 300 point Marauder Destroyer. It's like a Thunderhawk on a diet!
>>
>>54078306
Oh no, not the dreaded earthshaker shell

Averaging 2 hits (if you didn't move) and after rolling to wound and rolling saves 1 kill a shell vs most targets

How frightening!

So a few games in to 8th Ed with my eldar and I've noticed a few things.
I really like howling banshees in a wave serpents plus warlock with drain. They can get into melee easy, turn one if you use one of the 3 closer deployments. They kill a decent number of things, and tie elite melee units really well.

Swooping Hawks are dead, long live scourges. Luckily I used those models.

The humble shrukin pistol does a lot of work. As do twin paults.
>>

Hey Chart-anon, are you there? I have a question regarding squads where a couple of models can upgrade to a special weapon.
I was wondering if the better way was to add first the whole squad with their base weapons and then just add a single model with the special weapon's stats.

Or just a single model for each and multiply the respective costs by the number of times they'd be present in the unit. You know, for the usual "what would be most effective to equip N squad with" questions.
Eg. 9 * normal_marinelets + 1 * plasma_marinelet )

I like the idea of new haywire rules. Mortal wounds is not bad, but they don't do enough, or cost too much.

Clearly this wasn't done, so you can bet they won't be doing any "Playtesting" for GW ever again
Even the digital indexes had these glaring typos. And there still many questions regarding base game mechanics. Thankfully FAQ is on route.

The S3 doesn't matter as much as people keep hating on.
First, wounding on 5s still puts out good amount of wound against infantry and bikes (have an executioner on the exarch though). And now they still do a few wounds every turn against vehicles, the -3 ap helps there.

Second, against tougher things their job is to keep it in melee more than kill it. -2 to hit combined with drain means that dreadnaught is hitting on 5s. You'll stay.

Third, the humble shrukien pistol, you shout the thing you are holding in melee.
The wounds just add up.

About 50% Fucked. You're basically playing a Sororitas version of Mechguard. He'll be bringing Chimeras, Touroxes, and/or Hellhounds, you're bringing Immolators. He's bringing Meltavets, Melta Command Squads, and/or stormtroopers (All of which can take up to 3 special weapons) and your taking Battle sisters with 2 special weapons.

It's going to be a near-even fight, but you're biggest advantage is you're immolators which are much more effective on the move than the chimeras and tauroxes. His greatest advantage is the shear number of cheap special weapons he can bring over you, and the long-ranged weapons like the taurox battle cannon that can slow you're transports down.

Also remember you're excorcist is better than a leman russ battle tank in every way.

Check per transport. For example, the Chimera says "Can transport up to 12 ASTRA MILITARUM INFANTRY models". Rhinos say "10 <CHAPTER> INFANTRY models". The Sisters Rhino has something else..etc.
>>
>>54078567

Daemon Slaanesh isn't in awful shape. I can't imagine them actually creating a lot of new Emperor's Children models other than maybe Fulgrim because people are willing to collect daemon primarchs.

And I was more meaning to use Taurox or Chimera rules (or Hellhound and Leman Russ) but convert from Rhino hulls.

Like, lots of factions get it. I'm just thinking that there is no technical reason a regiment couldn't have Rhino-hulled stuff?
>>
>>54078589
-1 to hit.
Stack with drain.
Wychs are to hold things that want to fall back.
Banshees are for things that don't want to be falling back.

Or get a thing that can fall back, but loses a turn, and another thing that doesn't want to.

And they are more kill than people expect. It's a bit like the original shooting philosophy, only it happens in the wound phase. Instead of the hit and save phase.
>>
>>54078558
GW didn't create a special play test copy, that's extra work. They simply sent out the rules as they are. Without all the bling, all the art and everything else.
All that info was literally copy pasted. You have been lied to, or you don't care and don't want anyone to say bad things about the "Tournament" Crowd.
You know, the same faggots who are running around spamming fliers at tournaments and claiming it's completely overpowered.

>>
>>54078615
Cost far far more. Can't reliably get to the target as quick.
Wraith blades want to be killing.

Also, banshees are better at tarpitting elite melee units. Because like you they think high School and damage is what you want in the elite killer.

Then their S8 3d weapon is still hitting on 5s, and killing a single banshee at a time.
>>
>>54078675
Nice attempted deflection but I'm not even the anon you're implying I am, try again.

It's cute that people think Deathstars are gone when aura buffing means you can have the same characters buff multiple units into an unholy knot of death.

Multi-faction deathstars are gone, sure, but within a faction it's way easier to get a big death ball rolling, all because characters not joining units causes way more complications than it removes.
>>
>>54078666

You're free to believe that they literally wrote the rules, sent them to play testers then got feedback and changed nothing. That makes you a moron. If you think they literally sent them the full text of the indexes and rules for play testing and there was 0 iteration or revision then you're delusional.

Very different role imho.
Used scorps in the games as well.
The new infiltrate means they have very different target selection issues.

Scorps do not want to tango with things with good weapons, but do better against backfield options.
Banshees are better at hitting the front or tying down your opponent's initiators.
>>
>>54078755
New to 40k detachments, can you clarify how they work?

So if I'm taking a Battle Forged Army, can I take a Detachment of models sharing the Aeldari keyword, and a Detachment of models sharing the Tyranid keyword, or does my whole army have to share at least one keyword?

>>54078750

They did their job perfectly when you consider that their job was to basically break the game and expose any glaring meta-shattering rules exploits.

You won't find a single thing in any of 8th thus far on the level of 6e screamerstar, daemon factories or scatter-bikes spam.

GW has editors. It's their job to spot things like typos or fucked up layouts.

If you really want any proof that GW sent the tourney fags the same shit we got yet did nothing, look at the questions and issues that arose as soon as the full index leaks went up.
If you think, for whatever reason this edition was actually playtested in the manner GW and the tourny fags want you to believe, that wouldn't have happened.

We still don't have a yes/no regarding FNP abilitites and mortal wounds
No answer on if smite can be used while in melee, and into melee
Confusion over modifers, re-rolls and affects
Flamers hitting hard to hit models automatically
Mass inconsistency's between weapons gaining different amounts of attacks compared to their previous editions (TFC having 4d3, wyvren having 4d6 and being cheaper)

The edition wasn't "Playtested" and tourny fags yet again get to fuck over the game and community.

Your army, and all detachments in it, have to share a faction keyword. As long as they share a single keyword, common to all units in the army (except for unalligned things like fortifications), they can have any other additional keywords.

GSC have a rule that let them have IG in the army as a separate detachment (1 IG detachment for each GSC detachment).

The 3rd core ruleset was wonderfully trim and functional after the loose setup of 1st and awkward adolescent years of 2nd. Most of the problems from 3-5 came from poor codex balance.

And then we swap all that out for what is basically AoS 2nd edition, brought to you by the design team that fucked up the 3rd and onward framework, only this time trusted to build their own game instead of raping the existing framework.

It works more efficiently than the mangled wreck they'd crashed the previous framework into, but it dropped a lot of simulationism and fun from the experience and is a lot clunkier than pre-decades of bloat 3rd ever was.

With this rule that you cannot have a number of relic units that exceeds non relic units of the same battlefield role does this mean that to take a lord of war relic unit like the spartan or the typhon you'd have to take a non relic lord of war as well?

>Space Marines are invulnerable to all weapons except projectiles launched via magnetism and only magnetism
>>
>>54079399

Yeah marines aren't suited to fighting Tau.

It's not really a matter of tactics or anything, more resource management.

Tau have more reliable tech than the imperium, but shitty numbers. Tau could never hope to outnumber the guard, the guard might as well be Tyranids to them.

But a marine chapter? 1000 men. Usually they deploy 100 or less to a given warzone.

Tau have high strength weight of fire infantry guns, and plentiful armour piercing options. They dislike holding territory, reasoning that staying mobile and taking a toll on your foe is better. Give up land now, and when you win you get all the land.

Marine power armour fails against massed high strength infantry fire, or against plentiful armour piercing. Whilst they can take on tau, they take high attrition doing so which is a phenomenal waste of imperial resources compared to just drowning them in guard bodies.

>>54079341
Any marine can replaced because, by the time they're deployed one geneseed has been harvested from them.
The one they carry is an extra, but still a valuable resource.
And no, not every gun destroys the geneseed unless specifically targetted. A plasma gun may core a marine and set its corpse aflame, but unless the geneseed capsule was targetted it survives.

Yeah, that's a specific reason to hate kinetic impact weapons that'll completely pulp the guy inside the armour as it passes through.

More generally though, one of the first contacts marines had with Tau: Deploying an entire company via drop pod into a tau city, then getting counter-dropped by plasma rifle crisis. Company completely wiped, suits took minimal casualties.

Do not send troops against the tau so elite that the tau outnumber them and still have better tech.

Don't waste super expensive power armour on tau, who can blow through it like paper.

For the love of the emperor, don't send multi-century old veterans with expensive gene mods and irreplaceable equipment to fight guys who'll take horrendous casualties out of their forces when you could have just drowned them in disposable infantry.

Again, it's not that the marines aren't good at killing tau, they're good at killing anything.

It's just that Tau are more efficient marine killers than other factions due to their tech minimising the defensive benefits of power armour and their standard mobile tactics being fairly good against spec-ops forces.

They aren't superior to humanity, they aren't superior to marines. They just happen to have a bunch of factors that line up to make it not very -efficient- to use marines against them.

>They're a threat, but it was stupidly inefficient to send them against Tau in the first place.
That would be the case if the Imperium hadn't sent two space marine forces, a Knight House, a Skitarii legion and a whole Cadian Regiment against a Tau army that lacked starfleet support.
And yet they won!
They out-mecha'd Knights, outgrinded IG, Longstrike outtanked Pask, Darkstrider with a carbine outshot a Vindicare, Shadowsun outsneaked the RG Chaptermaster, outran the Khan and outfought a Callidus, and Farsight outmeleed an Eversor.
The only one who was successful was the Culexus, who had no bussiness being there because the Tau lack psykers.
The only ones to actually win something out of it (all the Tau won was flames) was the AdMech.
I agree with >>54079601, they're fucking cancer and their plot armour is stronger than the UM's and more toxic than the Plague Guard's. So, measurably, Warzone Damocles is worse than Warzone Ultramar.
>>
>>54079754
just be ware that you won't be the most out of all of these characters. So there are drawbacks as well as advantages to imperial super friends.
>>
>>54079710
That's the thing though, in anything but tau books space marines don't try to go toe to toe with anyone but CSM because that's not how they operate. The IG get involved in drawn out attrition warfare and the marines are dropped into important fights as shock troops.
>>
>>54079754
Keep in mind that as Codexes start coming out, you'll be rewarded for keeping your Faction keywords more specific. So doing all Imperium won't really give you any bonuses, but doing all Adeptus Astartes will grant some, and doing all Salamanders will grant even more. Just as one example.
>>
>>54079720
I would like something explicit in Advanced rules > Battle Forged saying quite fucking clearly "When building a Point-costed army all models and wargear must be purchased purchased individually, including wargear a model is equipped with by default".

Maybe with an addendum re-clarifying how Power Level costed works. To make it exceptionally fucking clear.
>>
>>54079727

Oldcrons still exist, it clearly says that there are tomb worlds still ruled by more powerful c'tan shards.

and using armies from other games is completely disingenuous of you, you might as well use things 'squatted' in the Lord of the Rings game as evidence to support your dipshit meme.

Nothing has been squatted since 2nd edition 40k, and it's never going to be again.

You'll sooner see Squats return then anything else removed.
>>
>>54079827
No, i'm inferring an implication that a dataslate containg the words "Each model is equipped with [wargear]" means when you buy models of this unit they come as standard with this wargear.

Then when i'm looking at the Points appendix, and seeing "Points Per Model" with a tiny subscript bracketed "(Does not include wargear)", i'm, based off my previous assumption of what the dataslate is saying "Each model comes equipped with" that when I pay x cost for a model, it has these items by default, and I may spend more points for optional upgrades as they are listed in said dataslate.

If it is so goddamn clear, why does a cursory google flag this issue up in droves?

Blegh, I love 8th, but the new allies basically invalidated my army. I have been playing Admech allied with Chaos Space marines, to represent the Dark Mechanicus (CSM gives me access to forgefiends / defilers etc)

But now since they don't share the same keyword I cannot legally run them together

When the Vindicator targeted Farsight I was "aaaw noo", but he was saved. Then the Callidus went after Shadowsun but I just knew the heroine wasn't going to die. Then the Eversor went after Farsight and I feared, as few survive an assassin and even less survive two, but survive he did.
After all that I was like
>Well, those guys failed. Let's read the Culexus part just for the sake of completion. He doesn't even have anything to do here.
Of course I was forgetting about their Etheriums and being fucking walking nightmares. I was gladly surprised, and even more about how they replaced the pope with a fucking hologram.

Literally just 91% isopropyl alcohol.

Throw it and your models in a sealed jar (pickle jar, jelly jar, whatever, just make sure it's closed because alcohol evaporates at room temperature) and let it sit overnight or for a few days. Give it a shake every once in a while or leave it on a windowsill (heat and agitation help) and it'll work better and cost less than any of the floor cleaners people usually use.

Metal strips super easy, plastic can take a little longer (depending on how long the paint has been on).

Don't use 70%, it won't work.

>>
>>54080571
I'm not currently aware of a source for their societal structure, but I'm also not super well-read on the lore, so there may be something I'm unaware of.

We do know that the other castes still exist, as they continue to use the traditional caste-based naming scheme, where you have things like Earth-caste engineers and air-caste pilots, both things you can find examples of in the 7e FSE codex. However, Farsight seems much looser with this system, going so far as to grant an Earth-caste friend of his the honorary title of Shas (fire-caste prefix) due to his participation on the battlefield.
