Is it ever worth dipping into another caster class to get some level 1 spells for utility and to get your bad save evened out? Specifically if you aren't entirely dependent on getting all the high level spells (read: magus, warlock, inquisitor and some such aggressive 6th-level casters)?

No, it's not worth it. Spell levels are customized such that they'll be useful at the level you get them at if you're single-classed to get them. Because of that, they're often worth steeply less when you can't access them for several levels.

the only exceptions to this are when you get something startlingly good that keys off your primary ability modifier, like a sorcerer or oracle taking a two-level dip into Paladin to grab charisma to saves. (oracle is better for that, by the way, since divine casters can actually wear armor)

So I've gotten sick of my current Pathfinder campaign, the players are running a shitload of different classes including some 3rd party shit I shouldn't have allowed, so I'm gonna nuke the campaign and start a core-only classes campaign. 'Cept maybe unchained rogue and monk, assuming anyone actually wants to play those, but honestly I'm on the verge of ditching Pathfinder altogether, given that the core classes are so broken that you have to buy a splat book for some of them to even function. So yeah I am thinking of ways to crash the campaign. I'm thinking of a TPK but I need to be subtle about it, I can't make it look like I am *trying* to kill the party because that will get them pissed. I am thinking of having them stumble across a deck of many things in an upcoming dungeon. I know it's a shitty campaign derailer but if they draw the wraiths card they'll get slaughtered, and the others will either create an interesting story (like the keep card) or just be random bullshittery. Honestly I just want to get some amount of enjoyment out of this campaign before I end it. But yeah any advice on how to kill a party subtly would be good. No super-high CR shit, or obvious kill traps. They have a decent amount of direct damage, but incorporeal undead seems to be a weakpoint of theirs. As are traps. So if you have any good suggestions for clever traps I could trick them into dying with, that'd be nice. I am thinking a bridge with an illusory lost girl on it in the upcoming dungeon (because they know there might be survivors) then the bridge gets blasted by a spell and the character(s) out there fall to their deaths unless they can fly (which 2 of them can, but still, that leaves 4 who might die, and the scout can't fly so he would die most likely)

I don't care that core is least balanced, it's better than the current bullshit I'm dealing with.

You're not *really* casting a divine spell, you're casting an arcane spell that's the equivalent of the divine spell, even if it's kind of blurry.

No, not my cup of tea and I tend to stay out of clubs that have people who wear those. But rules pretty much state that unless it specifically says that "It let's you use X as a weapon" and even then those don't usually threaten. Improved Unarmed means you can kick, knee, belly bump and whatnot and Catch-Off guard let's you treat improvised weapons as something not improvised. So unless you are wearing those heels on your arms you are not threatening, otherwise everybody wearing boots would threaten.

Well, what I'm going with is somebody who believes in freedom of choice and fights for that, but it's only his most visible aspect. Beneath the generic freedom fighter exterior is a terrifying person who can't help but obsess over people of great ideals. He wants to understand them fully to the point where he can trace their beliefs right back to their source. In this way, he can judge if their values are worthy of propagation. If he finds them wanting, he marks them for elimination so they don't get a chance to spread their thoughts. Only ideas that are fit enough will be passed on.

Of course, in this age, there's plenty of strife and the possibility of tyranny. If said authority crushes them, then they weren't worth his attention. Where it does prove to be a worry is on a pragmatic level. If people choose safety over culture, the resulting stagnation would hinder his goals for decades, if not for the rest of his lifetime. That's why he's keen to take part in the Princess' pet project, because it gives him a wide variety of targets and the chance to motivate people into ideological battles once more. As long as there is constant competition, he isn't too worried about things going wrong even if he can't keep up with the workload.

Like I said, it's a terrible idea. I still want to see if I could make it work, though.

I've spoken to a few people that get into that 'berserker' mentality from time to time, and the general way they describe it is that it's not so much a rage as the ability to focus everything in their mind on the task at hand. Anger can come with it, but it's largely more of a fugue that you work into.

You just feel a pressure building and compounding inside of you, and the only thought you have is that you need to release tht pressure, and the only way is through some form of "break" or "snap". DMs don't roll dice to decide on their groups... most of the time. Honestly if you love the premise, have an idea that suits it, and your app is competent enough, it might be to your advantage that the game got popular.

If Ensoulment were less popular, it'd probably see roughly the same amount of "strong apps" out of people who enjoy the tone and premise. That part of the competition remains, along with the randos that completely miss the tone but see it casually. The people that vanish are the strict memesters who wouldn't be chosen anyways and more importantly, the half-competent population.

Those people are important to you because they fill slots when the big selections are done. In a game with say, 20 apps, your app might be the DMs favourite but the remaining players who meet your schedule are shit. With the 50~ apps of Ensoulment, it seems likely that Protagonist can just select the strongest pairing of two or so apps that're compatible and then build the remaining party around them, which I think is how most selections are made.

With this in mind, it never matters how big a game gets. You're only ever competing with the people in your bracket, and if you're good and on tone, you're only ever competing with people that would've applied anyways.

Rules-wise, yes, but there's some severe inconsistencies and it's obvious that the default assumptions is always human, with no racials to support anything else. So I'm looking for ideas to make it all work well and not suck. I was initially considering grabbing a single level of crossblooded sorcerer for celestial/orc bloodlines, but that would suck so bad for a bloodrager, so now I'm hoping pure celestial bloodrager, but for ways to play up orcness beyond that.
