Ahh, Fate/Grand Order does a good depiction. She is a good person, who loves peace, but is willing to lead the charge as in her legend.

Outside of that there isn't really much. She is basically a normal person. She can hold grudges but overall she tends not to. She is like Arturia in the sense she used to be a farm girl and doesn't have her same regrets.

She is about vanilla and "Pure" as you can get without dipping into mary sue though some would argue that she is one.

Lastly, she is cool headed and can take a lot of blows. Her defense is good, her offense is bad but that is because she avoids killing blows. Sucks at math and is a bit of a glutton (like most sabers on the glutton part)

Since GO came out, I've learned to love Jeanne and hate Saber.

I've rerolled over 80 times now, never having seen a single 5* servant. Every time I see Excalibur flashing the screen white in the tutorial fight, it reminds me that all of the effort of this new run is most likely just going to result in another Sumanai, Marie, or Stheno, and a boatload of useless Craft Essence. Every time I see another Brave combo with Arturia, it reminds me that I'll be seeing it over and over for hours with nothing to show for it.

Saber has become a reminder of failure and hopelessness, where Jeanne represents the hope that one day I'll get a decent roll and finally be able to make it to Orleans and fight with her as the Support servant.

I hate Saber, and I hate F/GO, because it made me loathe the best girl in Fate.

I just want a 5*. I don't even care who it is any more. I'll take the bitch with the rainbow dildo, just give me something.

Exactly the same here. I really enjoy the # crunching/build choosing part not for #s sake, but in order to...clarify what my life will be like when I get there. I like building an identity for myself within a world and then imagining how that might play out based on my setup and my drawbacks. Drawbacks play a surprisingly huge role in informing my character's narrative arcs.

One of my favorite CYOAs is actually the short-but-sweet one where you choose three powers, two pieces of clothing, three body modifications, and a setting (I choose Marvel). I've spent probably the last three weeks daydreaming on that one. Because this one allows pre-existing universes (Marvel, in my case), it has a much easier time giving me a world to realize my new identity in. CYOAs with their own setting have to work a bit harder there. No point re-imagining yourself as a character if you've got no world to live in.

I have a huge superhero bias, which probably explains a few of these. But most of mine are set in either a tweaked real world or an existing IP for a reason. I like imagining myself as a character and that's much easier to do when I know the setting intimately. Conveying that level of atmosphere and depth is tough in a CYOA without wall of texting.

Usually, the most important thing for me is difficult choices, having to sacrifice and choose which hardships I'm willing to endure to get what I want. CYOAs that just butter you up with fancy perks and no downsides are less fun. Hard choices are what keep me thinking about a CYOA, and they make me ask myself what really matters to me.

Other than that, tone and atmosphere, like the others said, but I feel the need to expound on that.
* A unified art style and writing style goes a long way toward building a specific tone. Atomic Man is a good example of this. It's not an amazing CYOA mechanically, but it stick relentlessly to its style, and feels better because of it.
* Each option for each choice a player can make should say something about the world the player will inhabit. Even though most of the options won't be chosen, they still shape the player's impression of the final result.

The CYOA explicitly says that powers can "combine and interact" however we choose. Therefore, Times Ten can give me 10x Peak Human stats and can give me 10x smaller feathers (microscopic/unnoticeable) that're 10x harder than steel; if I can make this unnoticeable and avoid furrydom by making 'em small enough, I'll wear this like permanent chainmail that gives me 10x "near instantaneous" healing. So makes me a god regenerator that can heal other people. It was close between Bird Man and Chains of Power, but Chains just feels...weird. And being a perma-armored regenerator in a Marvel setting feels much more mandatory if I want to be a heavyweight--especially in Ultimateverse, where everyone dies.

Footwear synergizes with Bird in giving me 10 jumps (or one 10x jump--I figure I can get one of the two, but not both) midair, which is a huge jump-start to my flight. Especially if I'm weightless. Since this is a power interaction rather than a use of 10x, that's 10 jumps each at 10x peak human with 10x applies on top, if I want to use things like that. Belt gives me random mutant powers, if that's possible. I wasn't sure if it would work like that, but if so it's too good to pass up. 10x means it's 10x stronger than the average mutant--which should put me in at least Alpha/Beta territory while wearing. Omegas are way beyond 10x average.

I hope you guys don't mind me rambling here a bit. I finished the equipment and skills for Isekai'd Father, and I have a clearer idea for a few companions, how I'm going to write them, and the starting towns. Also decided to come up with a sort of 'sidequest' thing, where there are certain things you go through on your way to the big bad, that can allow you to change a few things about your starting situation if you want, or just give filler information for your story.

Still need two more waifu/husbando ideas, and 4 daughteru/sonu ideas, and I've only come up with the 'champion' companion of each territory. Still need to come up with like at least three more for each origin, and write the sidequests, then the endings.

Friday the Breath of the Wild DLC drops, Saturday and Sunday are family events, Monday I go to my brother's. Here's hoping I can write for hours again tomorrow!

As for body type, I want max lifespan and enough time to establish myself, build my GPA, etc..., but don't want to be a baby. 14ish seems like a nice compromise and, if I start at the beginning of Ultimateverse, would put me at peer age with the junior heroes. Gender, I've been male for the better part of three decades and likely will be for seven more. It's great and all, but I'd be mad, masochistic, and boring to keep the same body. So genderswap. I'll hope I can apply 10x to the gender choice as well for obvious reasons. Issues corrected needs no defense.

So with all this, I'm a low-grade Captain America (he's more than 10x) with enough intelligence to hang near the peak of the Marvelverse. I can multiply/divide any action by 10, so I can decrease things like travel time and time taken to get work done, while multiplying things like force, persuasiveness, $$, etc... And most importantly of all, perhaps, I'm immune to telepathic villains. Which is a huge deal. My powers also can't be suppressed, cloned, or any of the usual badness.

As a result, I'm well above street level and perhaps future Avengers/Ultimates level as an actual heavyweight. Even with 10x cheese, I'm outstrengthed by a lot of heroes, but can hold my own--and have creative uses, regeneration, flight, and intelligence as an advantage.

This gives me a pretty strong (but honestly not even overpowered, which says a lot about superhero verses) toolkit to start saving Ultimate Marvel and working my way up. I won't walk through all the steps planned, but I can tell you that being 10x more persuasive and meeting Nick Fury during the early days is really important. Especially since he has a soft spot for not torturing kids, even if they have suspicious future knowledge.

And there you have it. Weeks of research, musing, and daydreaming off a really simple CYOA.

Alright, Delinquent Quest anon here with another question, need some mechanics advice now.

So we have the three stats

>Intimidation
>Grit

For battles with other delinquents I could either go with the rock/paper/scissors mechanic and say you use your highest stat whatever that might be, with Fighting>Grit>Intimidation>Fighting.

Or, have each enemy have a stat wall you gotta beat. So to beat Maeda you need Fighting 2+, to beat Kamiyama you need Grit 4+ and to beat Gorilla you need Intimidation 5.

The issue with the first idea is that it means there's no reason to have points in anything but the main stat, but I think that'll be balanced out by the fact that you'll need certain stats to get certain perks and certain girlfriends; there'll be the matter of balancing those perks still of course.

Problem with second one is that what it actually results in is people just checking what fights they want to win and putting in enough of that stat. If your stat system isn't used anywhere else, then it doesn't matter but if it is, first system allows much more freedom, you just have to give reasons to spread stats more.
