Those were some of my biggest hang ups with the game, story wise. Maybe Evelyne saw more use in Jack than she did in Margarette, and forcible kept him alive through her mold magic farther than he should have, resulting in him eventually becoming a giant monster.

I would have preferred the final choice way more if they pitched it as either a choice between emotions and the truth, or something to make it a harder choice or one with narrative or thematic weight.

Evelyne has a greater amount of control over the infection than she's given credit for, and since her first goal was to break and fully convert Mia before spreading her family completely, and the fact that the family was trying to be as subtle as a freak family can about kidnapping people and molding them, I can see the lack of huge spread working out.
