I spent an entire campaign trying to get my character killed off because I was too much of a bitch to ask to leave when I realized that I hated the game. The DM was bad in the way that he gives players anything they ask for and we were constantly ahead in WPL, and my own building tendencies kept my character fairly optimized.

I threw myself into reckless encounters again and again and always made it through. My character got a reputation in and out of game for being a massive badass, but I was the only one in the group with the system mastery to understand that the feats weren't actually that impressive mechanically so it only made me more frustrated.

When I finally found a situation where I could believably die and couldn't be rescued out of, I tried to bow out too politely and ended up getting brought back with some poor homebrew undead template that to no surprise, made me effectively unkillable.

I ended up playing the bad campaign to completion. My character is now a god of war in the DM's homebrew setting. I haven't gone back to see how that went.

It still enrages me to recall the campaign, but I was once in a PbP where everyone started to pair off with love interests, and another player "stole" mine because he's online all day roleplaying out their developing relationship while I'm resigned to posting in the evenings. Are you me? I've been in that exact situation before, where you yearn for the sweet shears of the Fates to cut your mortal coil, but your damn thread's golden and you refuse to die. I hate it. I hate it I hate it I hate it. It was a campaign with a fire gnome. An alchemist fire gnome, played by a 16 year old hyper-caffeinated kid who did the Gnome voice and threw bombs AT MY CHARACTER because he knew I could take an explosion. A campaign where the DM had what amounted to the finger of god smashing my character into the ground because he wanted to see if he could topple "the mighty anon" and, when it did, he pussied out and said I was merely wounded, not dead.

What's with new players/DMs and wanting to become gods, anyway? First thing someone says when you first ask them where you want the character to end up, and it's almost always "I wanna become a god!"

And this. I think everyone else I was playing with was aiming to become a god, but my most common character goal is to meet their calling then settle down with a family.

My poor character will never have peace in death now, I know for a fact that he's fighting battles in eternity. Game was shit but I did enjoy the character once I got him down, it feels bad knowing he'll always be tortured.

Inexperience with any system will invariably lead to the misinformed thinking that the highest possible outcome is what they should shoot for. It's the same kind of mentality, I find, that ends up spawning minmaxers, as reality crashes down upon those who set their sights too high and ended up paying the price for it, then vowing that would never happen again by squeezing every last bit of power mastery over the system they can manage.

Ultimately this ends with the kind of people you'll see here sometimes who think that playing anything other than a Wizard at high levels is just a trash concept begging for your party to get killed, as well as slamming those who want to take more flavorful or just silly options in their character designs and telling them that they're just going to be a liability.

Pretty much, he was an Ulfen getting his raid on a particularly wealthy Nidalese ship making a break for Kintargo. The daughter turned out to be quite the catch, a skinny little black-haired thing with incredible eyesight and keen understanding of all things horses. My character was obsessed with her, some claim it was because she spoke the Shadow tongue in his ear while in bed, but it ended with quite a few kids in the epilogue and her getting a purebred Nidalese Chiardmar (essentially a thoroughbred, canonically the greatest "mundane" breed you can get.)

My cleric has a crush on the charismatic paladin. They've been traveling together for months now, and she's always very protective of her. The paladin asks her opinion of what the party should do despite Cleric being a quiet person, she asks to join hands in prayer despite the cleric being content just sitting alone in her thoughts and daily prayers.
To the paladin, who is used to being around people and being gregarious and social this all seems normal, but to the cleric, who grew up with few friends and spent a lot of time in quiet study alone reading about Sarenrae, all this social interaction is pretty overwhelming. Especially from someone so strong, and brave, and heroic, and so pretty...

Fast forward some more months, they're really good friends, share a deep connection in shared religion and shared Neutral/Lawful Goodness, Paladin saves Cleric a ton, one time Cleric gets to save Paladin just like in the movies, the whole nine yards. Very big sister little sister relationship.

Cleric can't take it any more, one night she just gushes it all out, that she admires her as more than a friend, that she values more than just their adventures and prayers together, and that she's been in love with her for months.

Paladin is straight.

Let me put it like this, as far as I'm aware nobody in this thread in their right mind would suggest to anyone else that they should take the Possessed Hand feat tree, even though it provides tons of hilarious flavor as well as some neat and unique mechanical benefits, because they'll say that the concentration penalty to casters is too steep and if you're not two-handing a weapon as a melee combatant to get 150% Str damage you're basically a liability.

Stuff like this is what I'm talking about, personally I'd LOVE to play a game where either I or one of my friends had this feat chain, but the player arms race of needing to climb ever higher in power level is at least part of what janked the CR scale to begin with in my opinion.

How do I justify making a character with the Touched by Divinity who doesn't worship the deity in question?

Make them an unwitting/unwilling but fated champion. I played in a game were neutral deity aligned paladins were referred to as eternal champions who protected the Cosmic Balance, very heavily borrowed from Moorecock's work obviously, and you can work that into a character at least once in a group without it getting too cliche.

It means that in some way, some how, your existence is a piece that deity has moved.

You don't have to be working for that deity; they could have simply made sure you'll be in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time. Perhaps because that was the least effort required to save something actually important to them.

But here's the thing, it's not JUST a team game, it's not JUST a stats game, it's also a storytelling game, with everything that that implies. Only ever taking one out of a preselected group of "correct choices" leads to stagnation, especially when doing such a thing isn't really all that warranted because your DM isn't looking to play a wargame like some general 150 years ago with one of those big tables and those sticks.

Continuing my example, as both a player and a GM I can see a great deal of benefit in having a character with a hand that can wake you from a sleep spell, and the Insight bonuses (quite a rare bonus to get AFAIK too) it grants are nothing to joke about either. Not to mention it basically has its own initiative it goes on at the same time as yours that can do any number of things to assist you such as grabbing items, popping you a potion, or drag you away from a threat if you're unconcious as a full-round action.

Both mechanically and thematically I can see numerous ways to work this as a character but "muh Improved Initiative" will always win out in the end to powergamers because you've ground down the potential builds in this game to such a science, and all so a level 5 character can solo a CR 5 monster in like, 2 rounds instead of 4 or 5 with allies like how the system is supposed to work.

There's a lot of symbolism behind eye color, and if I was on a computer I'd type it out and thus enlighten the General for the next time they design a character. The rule of thumb is blue's for godly types and blue-bloods, gray's for snipers and rangers, green's for virile/fertile earthly types, and brown's the common man.

anyway, no but it sort of happened to me. The party was being drugged every time they went to a certain tavern. The owner was in debt to the local notmafia, who the party was investigating, so when they got back from adventuring they would always eat at the tavern. Well every time, there was a small amount of various drugs in each of our meals, not enough to notice each time but sine we came back and ate here often it built up. We would get "funny feelings" and each of us felt something different.

Well for me, my feeling was that I really liked the tavern owners daughter. Apparently, the drug in my meal was a love drug and they arranged it so that she was always the one who brought my food, and she would "stay to chat" with me a bit while I ate, so the drug could be imprinted on her It was clever and we never suspected a thing.

Anyway long story short I become very susceptible to her suggestions and I unintentionally become a font of information for the woman and by proxy the notmafia who she passes it to.

We eventually find out, deep into the campaign, since it was a perfect setup. girl/girl relationships aren't the norm in the setting, so of course I agreed when she asked to keep it a secret, and of course she was actually asking that so it would be less likely people found out about the drugging, since I kept my visits to her a secret. So it took us forever to put everything together.

But yeah, I guess that's abusing a crush, I was the abusee.

I played a homebrewed kumiho race with an associated class up to the low teens. They effectively had a modified Minor Metamorphosis as a psi-like ability with no duration, which upgraded to better versions of the power at higher levels.

That character was a lot of fun. At-will shapeshifting that doesn't limit you to specific creatures gives you lots of room to do spooky stuff like grow modified limbs or change your face to match someone else's to fuck with them. Her identity actually managed to stay hidden for most of the campaign even though she had to kill humanoids and eat their organs to survive- a couple people flipped out when it happened.

Some Starfinder stuff to come out of the show. For some context, the party was level 4.

Fleet seems to be a +10ft bonus now, and ratfolk seem to have a 30ft movement speed.

You are able to get a breath weapon by level 4, possibly as a mechanic class feature. It is described as an implanted biotech dragon gland.

Most of a mechanic's drones are small sized, with hover drones being tiny. Owen said one class of drones, hover drones, "start life" at tiny implying that they increase in size as you level. The class of drone used here was a stealth drone.

The drones have mod slots, with options including a camera and arms.

Mechanics can overload weapons to use them as grenades or trip mines.

Owen (the DM) does not appear to roll to confirm his critical hits. Given that he makes a mention of following the official rules for this, and not his own house rules, this implies that confirmation rolls have been nixed.

Upon critting, Owen says it deals double damage "but this is not a high enough level weapon to also stagger you," meaning that there is probably some weapon level based critical stagger effect.

No official fumble rules in the first book.

Technomancers have an ability called spell hack. This allows technomancers to use mind affecting spells on "robots, constructs, and other creatures." This is speculation, but other creatures could possibly include undead, as the new liches seem to be a sort of tech based undead.

The new book is 500+ pages, on par with Pathfinder's core rulebook.

The solarian is no slouch in combat. I believe both the highest damage in one round and the highest damage roll were made by Ted's solarian, at 28 and 16 damage respectively, both without crits.

After taking a total of 33 damage, Ted remarks that he is almost out of stamina. This puts his max SP in the mid 30's.

Maybe I'm missing it, but is there a trove for the 3.x materials that aren't Pathfinder? Some good stuff back there begging for conversion.

Secondly, is it really NTR fetish shit? The player for the guy that waifu'd Ameiko was, as I remember from the greentext, a total weirdo who focused more on being lovey-dovey than exploring Ameiko's past, which is a recipe for disaster because Ameiko has never really been "over" the death of her boyfriend.

The rogue and barbarian story was funny though, you can't get NTR'd out of a relationship that never existed. The barbarian didn't know the rogue wanted Shalelu.

I think the Deadly Agility change is fine, but they should probably roll out Muscle Memory to balance out the impression.

Hey guys

I'm playing a very rash character who is likely to charge in and die a lot. I don't want to die a lot, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for items that make it harder to be out-right killed.

Troll oil for example stops you from bleeding out when you go down. Its a little expensive, but a good option. What other things could I use in addition to this? Preferably something that improves the threshold at which you die (-con). We're low level, so less expensive things would be cool.

Most finesse weapons are light and will never qualify for 1.5x Dex to damage.

It only works with: Elven Branch Spear, Elven Curve Blade, Spears/Polearms with the Polearm Dancer feat, Katana with Daisho Expertise

All of them have some form of proficiency or feat tax.
